I had my Wedding at Buxton Pavillion in the conservatory in August and it was fantastic. The team who managed our event did change several times but the hand over between staff was so seamless that nothing was forgotten and everything ran perfectly on the day. I found everyone who I interacted with incredibly professional, friendly and prompt at replying to messages. Everything that we asked for they were able to do and nothing felt like too big of an ask for them. I would highly recommend this venue for weddings as its stunning, our pictures have some out so beautifully and the team were fantastic. All round a 10/10 experience!

Terrible service. Waited 15 minutes for someone to take our order after being seated upstairs, then anothet 40 minutes before we realised that nothing was coming, not even our drinks. Spoke to someone in charge and she said that there was no record of our order and she would put it through again but couldn't guarantee we would get it before e we had to leave for the theatre. Waited another 10 minutes ad eventually got our drinks but no food. Had to leave without lunch. Considering we had travelled for 2 hours to get there and we were then going to be 2 hours at the theatre, it was a long day without food. Don't bother going it is so disorganised. Only gave it one star as it won't accept the review with none.

Stopped for coffee on a Sunday morning. Staff messed up the order twice and were frankly rude when my girl friend chased up our drinks. We all make mistakes but don't take it out on your customers when you have got it wrong. Very poor, not surprised the reviews are so average. The rest of the Pavilion was fine with polite friendly staff.

We were shown towards the Pavilion Garden for this monthly ‘Thursday Market’ and was very disappointed to see the sign ‘No Dogs Allowed’ but they have a sign selling ice cream for dogs, how ironic! We ended up taking turn to look quickly each of the stalls but can’t really spend money due to our dog not happy one of us went in! Lots of shops on the high street in the centre welcome dogs but why not the pavilion garden? Lots of visitors brought their dogs on holiday, no wonder the market has hardly anyone looking, what a shame!

poor service very expensive awful choices, needs to be kept cleaner. It could be so good with the right manager/ person in charge, young disinterested waitress with no intention of good service, flies in all windowsills and dirty tables and it was on a quiet day, I will avoid on our next visit and so should anyone else. Plenty of other better places. As usual it's ripping off the day visitors, and as for the price of the ice cream.....avoid and save your money for the ice cream van at the theatre entrance.

Went today to the cafe for a coffee with my wife, went to the front where they serve drinks no one else there, after about 15 seconds a lady joined me and the server a young lady. turned around and asked the lady what she would like to drink, after she had served her more people were queuing so I asked for a couple of coffees to be told the queue for drinks was about a foot to my right. After looking confused was told very rudely the queue was to my right. I politely told the server I would not bother and left. Very poor service will not return

On a visit to walk around the Pavilion Gardens one Sunday afternoon...I popped into the toilets in the pavilion restaurant...I spotted an advert on the back of the door for the Titanic experience! We were quite intrigued. My husband managed to book a night off work and surprise me by purchasing 2 tickets. We both dressed up and gathered with all the other ' passengers' seeing how much effort people had gone to..to get into the spirit of the occasion. Once checked off the booking list..we were shown to our table of 10 and settled in... getting to know our fellow diners... Captain Smith welcomed us all to the unsinkable ship and to enjoy the ambiance and menu. The serving staff performed fantastically!... we got to know their back story...especially the cheeky Violet! We loved her character. Throughout the evening there were 2 large screens depicting that fateful night... hour by hour..minute by minute... very subdued emotions...time to reflect on those poor souls. The whole evening was performed with great respect... a one off opportunity we'll never forget!! Thank you 😊. Janet and Steve Snow.

We have been visiting for a number of years most weekends with friends and always enjoyed sitting upstairs, where it is quieter, with a coffee and snack enjoying the delightful artwork on display. We are bitterly disappointed that they have decided to put the restaurant upstairs making it extremely difficult to view the artwork and sit quietly with a tea/coffee and snack. You are forced to sit downstairs now where it can be very loud and can get very messy and dirty. Maybe you could rethink this decision, you have now made it very difficult for people to roam and enjoy the amazing artwork as you are now disturbing customers having lunch!

Took mum for lunch before a performance at the opera house. Service was slow, to the extent we had to ask if someone would take our order. It wasn't overly busy either. Ordered the vegan platter which was 19.99 and I would say was overpriced for what we got which was falafel, breads, olives, salad, dips and some tempura vege. It was also different to what was on the menu, with the omission of some fried tofu. Was still hungry after finishing!

Travelled for 40 minutes to what looked spectacular on a leaflet. On arrival, the playparks had very little to them, with at least two items in the older childrens' area being damaged and unusable. The boating lake was unstaffed and out of use, despite it being in the Summer Holidays. The tearooms were closed and the cafe had a poor choice of food - I ended up opting for a premade wrap, which was soggy and very unappetising, due to being poorly packaged. The highlight of the trip was the miniature railway, which we all thoroughly enjoyed - adults and children alike. Overall, the experience was underwhelming, however - and didn't feel family appropriate, contrary to the advertising we had seen beforehand.

Really rude member of staff who spoke to me in a terrible, rude manner when I entered the cafe having visited the toilet. Her tone was extremely sharp telling me the cafe was closed, the area was shut and I had to leave immediately. There were 15 other individuals sat in the cafe and I was singled out and spoke to like dirt. Three other customers who witnessed the event came up to me afterwards and said they didn't understand why she had picked on me when they were all sat there too, and said she was rude. There was no general announcement to the 15 other people sat in the cafe that it was closed. This is not the way to talk to customers in any setting and something needs to change, as this individual clearly thinks this is acceptable. There was another female staff member stood by her ? a manager, who did not comment on her tone. If this happened in my line of work (NHS) and I spoke to a patient in this manner I would be reported and disciplined. I nor my family members will not be returning.

As a resident of Buxton I have fond memories of my visits to the Pavilion Gardens as a child. I'm sorry to say that now as a parent, I am ashamed when I visit. Firstly the children's play areas: they are nowhere near as good as they used to be, in both areas equipment has been removed and not replaced, it's just covered in a tape and has now been that way for years.Secondly the state of the park. Last weekend the first music festival with paid entry took place and the park was fenced off. Not only did I find it distasteful that such an event was taking place with PAID entry after the pandemic, featuring mostly what could have been experienced for free during carnival day and the spring fair; but also the state the park has been left in. The grass is ruined and there is goose foul everywhere! And thirdly the Pavilion Kitchen, what a shambles!!! I took a family member for lunch, to a place I regularly used to visit for lunch before the pandemic, and was horrified to find no table service, the tea rooms were closed and all that was on offer was a self-service system with a menu that would struggle to compete with Greggs at extortionate prices! I ordered a "traditional tea" expecting a pot, only to be served pre-made tea that wasn't strong enough, in a cardboard/plastic take-away cup! The food was also dreadful, I had to queue for 20 minutes to buy said food and there was nobody cleaning any of the tables. It seems that money is at the centre of the new takeover at Pavilion Gardens. What a shame that such a beautiful place (that was GIFTED to the town by the Duke of Devonshire) is being ruined by corporate investors. Shame on them!

On the way out we decided to get an ice cream, I gave my little boy the ice cream and he dropped it on the floor. A man who worked there came straight over to us, asked what flavour the ice cream was and replaced it straight away. He was genuinely concerned that my little boy was upset. I didn’t get his name but I just wanted to say thankyou, I was really touched by his kindness.

I cannot fault the Pavilion Gardens outside parkland area. It is uplifting, even in bad weather, to walk through the Gardens or, as I used to, meet friends and family for a coffee. But this is about the newly refurbished interior cafe/tearoom facilities. I reviewed the Pavilion Gardens cafe - it was essentially one open plan space with waitress service - when under previous management and, as a town resident, I had a positive attitude towards all aspects, although some of the seating was beginning to look a little shabby.I have been away so hadn’t visited the areas undergoing refurbishment for a while and was interested to see the result of recent changes. A couple of months ago it was clear that there would be two separate areas. I popped into the new self-service Pavilion Kitchen with friends as the other area wasn’t accessible (being re-structured I assumed). Well, OK for a snack I supposed - the new area I thought served a purpose and we saw families eating there quite happily but we found the refectory table arrangement and bench seating only on a par with any self-service facility ..... not for me for a leisurely chat over a coffee. Would the other area be along the same lines? In the early part of this year the continuing refurbishment seemed to go on for weeks so I didn’t visit and wasn’t even sure what was open or not. Today I was pleasantly surprised. I found the ‘tearoom’ section re-opened - it has been extended, refurnished, newly carpeted and is cosy. The staff were friendly and table service was efficient and prompt. On a rainy day there were diners in both areas and I have to say the two areas now seem to be offering a reasonable choice: For a fairly quick snack the larger self-service Pavilion Kitchen with small play area (there is a larger one in the Octagon) is OK whilst for those wanting a quiet chat over a drink, meal or afternoon tea in comfortable surroundings, and the option of the upstairs gallery, the new area also works. I didn’t have trouble finding a free table but it was early and I noticed quite a few reserved signs on tables so maybe best to reserve a table here for a meal. As a ‘local’ I want the Pavilion Gardens to continue to be a great attraction and I hope this new formula is successful. As an add-on I am relieved that the adjoining conservatory is still pretty much intact and, apart from a few additions, retains its uniqueness. So glad the new proprietors took notice of public opinion.

Had lunch in the newly refurbished Pavilion Gardens Tearoom. Was hoping for a main meal but the only vegetarian option was a sweet potato, cashew nut and apricot tart which sounded awful so my only options were soup, sandwich or jacket potato. So I sat and ate my jacket potato whilst my hubby and mother in law tucked into fish & chips. Cheesecake & coffee afterwards were very nice. Their very limited choice for vegetarians means that we will not be here again for a meal. Will still go for coffee but would probably opt for a pizza in the Pavilion Kitchen which is a better option for me. Such a shame that in the 21st century vegetarians are still not catered for!

We went for an early pizza lunch with the family. We have a 2 and 4 year old who were very excited to be going out for pizza. We ordered when we arrived, just after 11am and were told after we'd placed our order that they had mistakenly not turned their pizza ovens on and that it would take at least half an hour to heat up before cooking our pizzas. We were disappointed and thought we'd have to go somewhere else (there's no way the kids could manage a wait of about 45 mins for a pizza) but the lady in charge, I didn't get her name unfortunately, sorted us out. She quickly ran around and found another way to get our food cooked for us and 15 mins later, we had 3 superbly cooked Pizzas. She was very friendly, apologetic and came over numerous times to make sure that we were ok. Could have been a disappointing visit but they dealt with the problem swiftly and efficiently! Thanks Pavilion Kitchen! We'll definitely come again

Before its recent refurbishment the Pavilion Cafe was a comfortable but shabby family restaurant. The new version is badly designed, unwelcoming and canteen-like, furnished with basic trestle tables and benches. Completely inappropriate in the lovely old Pavilion building. A weekend lunchtime visit there was memorable for all the wrong reasons - a very poor limited menu (the children's menu is laughable) and confused staff who did not appear to know what was on offer. We chose fish and chips on the 'Open Menu'(?) on the counter only to be told five minutes later that it was unavailable. There was one sad wilted salad on display and very little else. There were no ready made sandwiches although these were available to order. However they turned out to be great hulking unappetising doorstops made with thick white bread. The Pavilion Cafe should be a welcoming place to enjoy family meals and afternoon tea. Sadly not in its present form. We'll be steering well clear in future.

Visited the restaurant here at lunchtime today the layout is not as it was as a reasonably comfortable tea room but a large proportion resembles a low grade caff with a canteen type of food counter. The selection of food was very limited in this section and the sausage rolls lacking flavour, we also ordered a soup from the main restaurant menu and found it weak and wateryThe restaurant staff were friendly but the staff at the canteen counter much less accommodating This is a much less inviting place than previously Also the disabled lift is of no use for a wheelchair user on their own as the bottom door does not close automatically and thus the lift does not rise unless someone is able to go down to close the door. On returning to go up it requires an able bodied person to close the door from the outside as there is no internal handle

The Pavilion Gardens are wonderful for a walk in Winter or Summer. However, since the new operators took over, I find myself going inside to the cafe or restaurant less and less as each time as almost every aspect of the experience (service, food, drinks, ambience) is getting worse the more changes they make. This was my first visit to the revamped restaurant, and it was poor. How they think replacing the previous (admittedly badly run) restaurant with a self service cafe with refectory tables is progress I jus don't know. You can still get table service in a tiny part of the room, but its not clear what the menu is; you can't see one until you're sitting down. At 1pm last week, there were no customers in at all, which tells you how much has changed; there were always a few people in previously. The soft play area has moved near to the Octagon, but obviously disappears when there are events on ie every weekend. Parents and children were a huge income stream when the play area was there, but they don't seem to have spotted that. Our drinks were poor; tiny, one size only and the "de luxe" hot chocolate didn't even fill the cup. Another customer even joked about how rubbish it looked. Our neighbours' food looked bad and there was a problem with their order, so we decided to move on elsewhere (Sacro Lounge - also rubbish). The new operators of the Gardens must think that visitors to the Gardens must be stupid; the continued dumbing down and poor operation of almost every aspect of the Pavilion (Pool, Cafe, "Champagne bar", restaurant) is very disappointing...

This was previously a welcoming open area with table service and a small kids play area. I've been going for the last 10 years. The pavilion has undergone quite extensive refurbishment. The play area has completely gone. The website needs updating. The sofas have gone. The sit down cafe is now a small cordened off area. 2/3 of the old dining area is now modernised with shared tables and benches and is now self service. This set up makes it difficult to dine with younger kids who are up and down and to manage with a pram at the tables.I found it pricey. Food quality was in keeping with the other deli type eateries in Buxton. I found the coffee disappointing and over priced. It feels like a cafe one would find in a modernised museum. For people looking for a quick coffee it's ok. There are several places that are more comfortable and welcoming with better coffee and menu within a stone's throw. Particularly if you're looking for a place to meet and catch up or sit down for lunch. It's sad to see the Pavilion gardens has lost its soul and no longer has the play area. It's modern with a mainly quick in and out approach. I hope it thrives on its new relauch. I can understand why the cafe has changed it's approach. There are several independent cafes in Buxton that one should consider as an alternative if your looking for something a bit more cosy and personal. For a quick bite and coffee in the park I guess the pavilion is a reasonable bet. But it's pricey on the downside.

I’ve been coming here for years with my nephew and friends with young kids. Since being taken over the cafe has been transformed into a very uncomfortable canteen. I took my nephew to the bouncy castles during half term which is great value and was packed with families. There were signs all over to say only food purchased on premises could be consumed inside, however the choices for kids food is poor and pricey for what it is! I asked at the ice cream parlour if they could do me some plain toast (there’s cheese on toast on the menu) to which the girls said no but directed me to the main cafe. I asked at the snack bar, to which the staff said very bluntly that you could only have what was on the counter (cheese on toast and sandwiches are also on the menu here) So then I asked in the ‘restaurant’ area to which the woman said no because they can’t do take away food. All I wanted was some bread and butter or toast with butter, but not a single staff member wanted to help. The staff were unwelcoming, unfriendly, and unhelpful. They need to make some big changes to their menu and their attitude if they want to continue to bring in parents with young children.

I went yesterday for lunch with my children and a friend with her family. The lady behind the counter was very hostile when taking our orders. As she was passing the order on to the kitchen she kept having to ask what sandwich I'd ordered as she couldn't remember. She then told off the person behind the scenes in the kitchen. Everything I ordered seemed to be a chore for her. The children's lunch bag is a rip-off: £3.95 for half a sandwich, drink and side (the sides all needed replenishing). We waited ages for our food and after reminding a member of staff serving our pizza that we were waiting for a quiche it still didn't appear. After a further 30 minutes of waiting, the said member of staff was questioned about its whereabouts to reply: 'I'm on pizza duty'. When it finally arrived it was to brown and frazzled but we were too nervous complain due to the hostile staff member taking orders. This was a yearly meet-up with my friend which was marred by eating here. I would never return and would recommend avoiding it.

Pleasant day spent in Buxton. Pavilion gardens are very attractive but needed some tidying up. We will be visiting again. I think we need to allow ourselves a bit more time so we do not have to rush so much.

Awful service, nobody appears trained or knows what they are doing, didn't know price of wine! Took forever to get served, so slow. When the food came it was poor quality , dry and inedible. Wont be going again. This place should be Buxtons gem, instead it is the pits.

Myself and 4 other adults arrived here yesterday around 2pm . Clearly it had been very busy as the heavy rain had encouraged many visitors to shelter but we had a friendly greeting and were shown to a lovely window table upstairs and informed that staff would clear/ clean before we sat down . All was cleared but table only half cleaned and smeared with a single paper serviette which was also used to brush debris on the floor .

I went here with a group of friends prior to going to the Buxton Opera House and, contrary to some of the reports you might read here, had a delightful experience. The pre-theatre Menu was really lovely which we all enjoyed immensely. The staff were very courteous and tried to be helpful, though they were young and obviously still finding their feet. We were there on the 25th July i.e. the record breaking hottest day of the year and the staff coped extremely well - God only knows what it must have been like in the kitchens, a living hell I would imagine! Nevertheless the food was beautifully cooked, well presented and brought out in good time. Well done to you all!

Disorganised, staff not working in organised way, took ages to get served, ironic when you are asked to wait to be seated. How they will cope when busy!

The park has a brilliant playground and a green gym. The pond and carved animal tree is amazing. The café was friendly and children friendly. The cheese and wine stalls were very tempting! Lots of lovely local produce, crafts, artworks and toiletries. Beautiful conservatory. Lovely memories made here.

Left after waiting an incredibly long time for my order to be served. No explanation for why my food did not arrive. 10 staff members visible - one for person seated and yet despite this service was laclustre and rude. Used to be an excellent restaurant. Standards have deteriorated.

Stopped at the café while visiting a wool show. The service was slow and lacked any coordination. The only member of staff that was working conscientiously was the one clearing/cleaning tables. Seems like the staff employed need more training to get on with their jobs rather than standing around gossiping with each other.

These gardens are beautifully maintained and are a pleasure to walk around. Surrounding the gardens are some splendid buildings which add to the overall ambiance. Most notable of these of course are the Pavilion and the theatre / opera house.

Service was prompt professional and polite. I ordered the Caesar Salad and wanted Chicken, Romaine lettuce, croutons, Parmesan cheese, dressed in a sauce of lemon juice, olive oil, egg, Worcestershire sauce, anchovies, Dijon mustard, and black pepper. What arrived was a shredded salad of mixed green red leaves, whole anchovy and olives with chicken. Could have been much better.

Visited last week and had a hot drink each and a Jacket Potato with cheese and beans, pie and chips and a children's chicken strips meal and could not fault it to be honest. Chicken Strips appeared to be homemade and the pie was locally sourced from the Butchers. Really fresh and delicious. We sat overlooking the Pavillion Gardens so had a lovely view. Staff friendly - Service was good. Reasonably priced. Thanks very much.

The Pavilion Gardens are beautiful, a real gem in the heart of Buxton. Weenjoyed walking around the water, feeding the ducks. We had lunch in the cafe in the pavilion building. The food was hot, tasty and plentiful and the staff were very attentive, plus it was great value. There was a nice shopping area inside the pavilion too. We then headed to the play park which our son loved. Great choice of play equipment for younger and older children plus there were more toilets down near the park (very handy!). A lovely visit and we would certainly return when we visit the town again.

We planned an afternoon trip to Buxton and to see the pavilion gardens. While the gardens are not extensive, they are well worth a visit. They are very pretty, with lovely walks around the ponds and waterways. There are many ducks, geese, waterfowl and others which add to the colour and enjoyment of the gardens. The layout is beautiful and the gardens are well maintained.

It offers plenty of space with an area for children to play whilst parents/carers waiting for food. The staff are friendly and pleasant. The menu is reasonably varied with gluten free and some vegetarian options as well. The prices are also very competitive. Well presented and efficient service. Would certainly return again when in the area.

Dreadful service . Maitre d’ not interested (needs firing) No bread,no toasted ciabatta with pate. Cold food . Beef dry (no gravy). Serving didn’t start until 7.00 pm making whole evening late. Considering everything was preordered a total fiasco. No excuse. In fact to make amends everyone that attended should be refunded at least 50% of the cost if not all the cost. If the opera hadn’t, been good with good company our entire evening would have been ruined. David

Visited for lunch before going to the theatre. Yes it was busy and yes we expected to wait a while for our food. After an hour we asked how long it was likely to be, we were told it would be 3 minutes. Half an hour later there was still no sign. Staff were not interested and clearly did not care that after waiting an hour and a half for our food it still hadn't been served. We left at that point and won't be back.

In Castleton for a few days walking and called in at this pub for an early evening meal and a couple of beers. Although not busy when I arrived most tables were reserved but staff managed to find me one . All staff very friendly and helpful, as a solo traveller much appreciated . Had a very tasty burger with added stilton cheese , and a couple of pints of an excellent Black Sheep bitter . Well recommended , but very popular so best to reserve a table . Will be back next time in Castleton .

set on a quiet and scenic road not far from the centre of hope, you'll be met by friendly staff and i have to admit my black pudding in chicken, new potatoes, cabbage and sauce melted, throw in a decent choice of starters and desserts not to mention a good choice of alcoholic beverages and your in for a nice dining experience.
