Zaman's Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

I’ve been coming here since it first opened and I’m embarrassed I’ve not reviewed sooner. This place has me murmuring noises of contentment every time. I love it! They are always impeccably polite, referring to my title and surname which makes the whole experience feel extra wholesome. The Zaman’s specials are fantastic and we always enjoy the special fish tawa! And it is not a naan with cheese, it is cheese with a naan somewhere in there, which is about the only way to make it any better! The Pathia, the Laziz, and the finest cuts of chicken for the tandoor…divine. Here’s to many more years!

Great Indian takeaway, been using Zamans since they opened and I’ve never had a bad meal…. Very friendly….. you have to try the lamb ashari recommended

We ordered a takeaway online. The website is a bit clunky and slow to use, but we placed our order and asked for it to be delivered at 6.30pm. It arrived on time and was piping hot. We tried the Imli Maas fish dish with a naan, a sag aloo, lemon rice and onion bahji. All delicious and generously portioned. Would highly recommend and I look forward to another takeaway soon.

Friendly and welcoming staff, which were very patient answering out questions about the menu. The whole place looked very smart, clean and nicely decorated. We did not have a long wait for food and it was the best curry I have ever had. Thank you so much, would highly recommend.

Absolutely stunningly beautiful Indian quisine had a takeaway for my brothers birthday I can put my hand on heart and say that it was the most delicious Indian takeaway I have ever eaten the butter chicken was lovely and thick sauce and the chicken just melted in your mouth I honestly could of just kept eating it was that nice without a doubt the best Indian food in Newquay even go as far as say the county do your self a favour go and try

Went here with a group of friends, lovely staff and amazing food. They are super good to cater if you have any food allergies too. Mine are gluten free and dairy free and they did it with no problem. Will definitely come back again!

I didn't like the food, there was no taste.

The food was pretty good although rather expensive (eg £5.50 for one portion of rice?!) The customer service could do with some work. There were 2 waiters standing around watching me struggle with the front door instead of coming and opening it, and when I asked one what the brown dip was that came with the poppadoms he said "it's brown sauce". Well yes, Sherlock, I can see that. Asked someone else later who said it was tamarind sauce. They have 2 sea bass dishes but apart from that the only fish/seafood option is pangasius, a cheap, bottom-feeding Vietnamese catfish. The mixed vegetables were apparently "some fresh veg mixed with frozen mixed veg" which wasn't appealing. The other dishes were OK, nothing mind-blowing. It's the only Indian I've tried in Newquay so don't have anywhere to compare. They don't have a liquor license but you can bring your own alcohol.

Incredible food and really polite staff. I had the palak paneer and it was incredible, so was the chicken tikka masala my partner ordered and everyone else really enjoyed their meals. 10/10 would recommend.

Wow! The best choice we could have made for Christmas dinner! Everything was so delicious, best Indian food I’ve had in years especially the chicken tawa and paratha. Super friendly staff too! Thanks guys, we’ll be back!

We had a takeaway for four people. Most of it was very lacking in any sort of flavour. The bright pink masala sauce tasted of nothing, the vegetable karahi had very little flavour. The Rogan josh was tasty, as was the garlic rice. The naans were like raw dough and the filling of the peshwari naan was dry with no flavour. It was expensive compared with better places and they charge for delivery. I'm surprised it has got so many good reviews.

My husband took me here for my birthday. It was my third visit and am looking forward to going with girls from work in January again. The food is outstanding and the portions are generous. The whole team at Zamans are charming and attentive. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Stunning curry, the lamb haziz was excellent and just good all round service. Bring a bottle as it's bring your own and enjoy.

I organised a meal for a party of 10 people. Non of us have been here before so I was tacking a chance on this one. Everything was outstanding! Service, food and atmosphere. I have lived in Cornwall for 13 years now and eat out very often and I have to say this was the best meal I've had out in 13 years of living in Cornwall.

1st visit to zamans and I'm afraid the last , everything well overpriced over £100 for pickle tray and 3 basic mains and starters ,hardly any taste, in the food , onion bajis so heavily fried they were dried out , was like eating pork scratchings

Has a delivery, was 30-40mins later than the original 60-90 minute wait, it did need microwaving, and the popodums were really stale/rubbery. HOWEVER all of us said it was the BEST INDIAN TAKEAWAY wed ever had! The chicken Tikka was so tasty! Well seasoned, tender, juicy……I’m still dreaming about it days later! So impressed by the food!

Really bad experience it took them 90 mins to serve food, no ventilation inside place was full of smoke and everyone was coughing, sorry but had to post my experience…

Went to Zamans last night with a party for my mates leaving due before he moves up country and for a table of 12, very picky eaters, every single one of us, loved our meals, The staff were so friendly and welcoming and aren’t afraid to join in on the banta too! Big shout out to Mo and the Team for going above and beyond to make sure everybody had a lovely time Highly recommended this place, will definitely be returning 🤘

Extremely overpriced, non licensed restaurant. Food tasted ok. When I mentioned how expensive and small the mixed grill was the manager laughed and said deliveries are very expensive and I needed to take in the whole package. The whole package had me sliding around in the toilets who knows what was on the floor and taking my own drinks in with me. Why are deliveries so expensive do they not have chickens and lambs in Cornwall.

I recently dined at Zaman's Indian restaurant and while the experience was generally pleasant, the food was a bit of a mixed bag. Despite requesting spicy dishes, the food leaned more towards the sweet side, which was a bit disappointing. The flavor profile could have been bolder, as the spices didn’t come through as much as expected. Additionally, the food appeared to be colored, which felt a bit artificial and took away from the natural look of the dishes. While the meal was acceptable, it didn't quite live up to the level of authenticity and spice that I had hoped for.

Our takeaway was the best Indian food we have tasted in a long time. We had been recommended the restaurant and it did not disappoint. Superb flavours, exceptional authentic Indian dishes - we were blown away by the taste and quality. Highly recommended and we will definitely be ordering again in the near future.

Hit & miss curries.... Was the best but not so much now they acquainted themselves with Newquay. Obviously have a huge following of regulars, such as myself however, I can't be the only one to recognise that their quality has dropped in standards. Forget the price, if it's quality then fair enough. Not anymore I'm afraid! Has the chef gone? who won the award? Always the chef!!!! I've had it all my life, find a decent place and all of a sudden.. Boom, gone downhill. Look after the chef and the chef will look after the business that he/she was hired to do! It's very simple... Don't get greedy, let the chef know their worth and give him/her the money they deserve! Prove me wrong if you have the decency to respond and tell me that the chef that helped win the award is still cooking.

The vegetarian and vegan dishes are to die for! The meat options are good too so good for everyone, there super quick and lovely food so worth it!

Zaman's is simply the best and 'the' go-to for Indian cuisine in the area. Absolutely can't get enough. Fresh ingredients, incredibly tasty and balanced food that isn't 'fast' or oily. Service is amazing and always a pleasure handing over money in trade for their food. Slowly working my way through the menu!

I would not recommend here and the pictures people have shared are nothing like what you get served... Service was spot on just wish you could say the same about the food...

Ok, average. Very expensive prices to dine in. Small-ish mains. Good food. It's BYO so you can take your own alcohol. But they will not give you a glass of tap water.

Went there for dinner today. Everything was really as tasty as others have reported. Absolutely top, great taste, you don't want your plate to be empty. Very good service, would be happy to come again. Our best Indian food we've ever had in Europe.

Way Overpriced and small portions food was decent though!

Very good place overall. Food quality was very good, but portion sizes were small. Very good environment. There was a constant flow of people coming for takeaway, and the restaurant was almost full. Service was top-notch. We were served food within 5 min, and we were out within the hour. Happy days as we could get on to see the sunset 😊.

Very bad food. After eat food poisoning. Last week Wednesday we came here for eating. Food no taste and too too much expensive. Half litre water £3.50 half litre coke £3.50. If you take £30 food prices will be 60-70 pounds. Very disappointed

Visited zamans with my girlfriend and we were really nervous to go to an Indian restaurant in Cornwall since we've had a couple of really bad ones elsewhere. I come from Birmingham so I know a good Indian restaurant & I am so glad we chose to eat here! Food was superb. I had a classic tikka masala and my girlfriend had a korma because we wanted to play it safe but we will deffo be back to try out more of the menu since we live in Roche, not far to drive.

Rip off prices. Balti chicken with 4 small cubes of chicken, onion and capsicum cost us £17. Tiny chapatis £3.50 each.Told us will take 15mins ….. took 45 mins to prepare the order. I’ll never return.

We pre-booked a table of 15, I messaged them on Facebook to ask about children's meals and they allowed us to pre-order nuggets and fish fingers to cater for the children in the group. We arrived and Jay went above and beyond to make sure we were all sorted with drinks or glasses as we had brought our own alcohol. We all ordered mains and sides after a round of poppadoms and chutneys (their very own chutney is amazing!) The food came out all together and we we not waiting long at all considering we were a table of 15, the restaurant was filling up and people were coming and going for take away orders. It was a stress free, swift flowing delicious meal! Wish I had found this place sooner as we come every year, will definitely be coming back! Thanks Jay for making us feel welcome and for making it an enjoyable meal for us all.

Went here tonight for some food with the family. Staff really looked after us and were exceĺlent with the kids. Food was really great so would highly reccomend if you fancy a Curry whilst visiting Newquay.

Lovely evening meal to celebrate daughter’s birthday. Staff were quick and attentive. Food was rich and really nice. Good selection of Indian cuisine with a Zaman flavour. All dishes arrived quickly and hot. Rice was good, not greasy. Popadum starter was nice and spicey. Great food for a lovely evening, thank you. We shall be back soon

I was recently on holiday in Cornwall and thought we would try this place. I visit Newquay every year and usually try the main Indian overlooking Great Western Beach but though I would go for a change this year. I ordered online for collection as I thought this would be quicker. I ordered at 7.20pm and I was given a collection slot of 8.00pm – 8.30pm, note the website requests that you arrive at the start of the collection slot. I arrived at 8.00pm and made payment, at which point I was made to stand in a sweaty porch for 45 minutes waiting for the order with a few other disgruntled customers. I asked one of the workers how long the food would be and he told me the food was still in the pan and would be 3-5 minutes. After another 10 minutes the food was brought out - I can only assume they don’t start preparing the food until you turn up and actually pay. We only had 2 main and 2 side dishes so was surprising an hour and a half after I placed the order it was still being cooked. I get that they are busy but it shouldn’t be that hard to give a more accurate time for collection. I was expecting big things at this point but was left disappointed. The Dansak was watery and bland, Tikka Masala was ok but nothing shout about, however in fairness the keema nan was very tasty. I will definitely be reverting back to my usual go to Indian next year.

We booked last minute and were pleased we did. It was very busy but the staff at Zamans made us feel very welcome. I hadn't noticed it was bring your own alcohol so I called into the Co-Op which is 5 mins walk away. Food was great, highly recommend the lamb laziz. If we were staying longer, we'd definitely call back.

Who actually charges for tap water? £3.50 for 330ml is worse than pablo Escobar’s drug ring.

Fantastic meal here last night, Zamons never fails to amaze us with the quality of the food, service and outstanding satisfaction we feel after visiting here! A trip to Newquay wouldn’t be the same without a trip to Zamons.

As ever a fantastic tasty curry, the best service and staff that make us feel like family. I am never disappointed and love all their food.

One of the associates was extremely rude too the mother of my child. Refusing her too use the toilet due to ‘cleaning’. I am extremely upset and disappointed and will never be recommending this place to anyone.

Visited with another 5 guests. Service very good and food served without much of wait. Food is slightly overpriced but bland compared to last year so all can think off looking at some of the other reviews if chef must of changed.

I tried this place for the first time a couple of days ago and I've never had such mixed feelings for leaving a review! To start with we ordered to collect and when we went to pick up our food we were welcomed warmly by very friendly staff. We ordered a Chicken Changasi, a Veg Korahi, Pilau Rice, Lemon Rice & some chips. To start with I've never heard of a "Changasi" this was my first time trying this dish. I've had "Garlic chicken curry" before but nothing like this. I honestly have to say this is the best takeaway curry I've ever had in my life. I'm from Manchester where we have a lot of Asian communities and with that an abundance of Indian restaurants and takeaways. We even have the famous "Curry Mile" in Rusholme. I've tried hundreds of curry's from all over Manchester, some not so good and also plenty of great places. I was not expecting to come to Cornwall and find the best curry I've ever had but this is exactly what I've just had from Zamans! I've never had anything like it. The chicken quality was lovely. The garlic flavour was balanced perfectly with the medium spice from the dish. There's flavours I've never even experienced I have no idea what herbs we're used to make this dish but it was absolutely incredible! Easily the best curry I've ever had and I'm craving it again just thinking about it! I had it with the lemon rice which was also absolutely delicious. Not too zingy but perfectly balanced and seasoned. The lemon and garlic flavours really complimented each other. Also the chips were lovely and thick, cooked to perfection.. crispy coating with fluffy potato inside. Also a generous portion that was easy to half to accompany both curries. This is unfortunately where the review turns on its head and unfortunately things go down hill... My missus did not enjoy her Korahi at all. She was not impressed. She said it was awful and flavourless. The only praise she had was a nice variety of vegetables. I was sat next to her eating the best curry ever whilst she was completely disappointed in hers and I was wondering if she was exaggerating. I had to try some to see if it really was bad and unfortunately I had to agree with her. To start with the sauce was very thin. Then the actual flavour just wasn't there. Something was missing. Some seasoning or salt or herb or paste. Not quite sure what it was but the curry was honestly so bland and dissapointing. It's still sat in the fridge now 2 days later because she wants to buy a supermarket jar of sauce to add to it so it's not wasted. I was in complete disbelief that a curry so incredible and a curry so dissapointing could come out of the same kitchen. I've never experienced inconsistency like it. Usually you might get a 7/10 dish and an 8/10 dish. This was a 10/10 dish and a 5/10 dish. I really wanted to give a 5 star review especially from my own experience but including my partners experience it brings it overall to a 7/10 unfortunately. When you spend £30+ on a takeaway and half of it gets put in the fridge it's a little dissapointing sadly.

The whole experience was excellent can not recommend them enough, the food outstanding, the service outstanding. We have take aways occasionally which are always amazing but actually eating in was a whole other level

Been there last week. I think chef slightly modified the food and spicies as the local customers i saw there were white people. Chicken tikka was good but it doesnt have to be this red … Overall 4/5 …

By far the best Indian we have ever had - not hard to see why they have won awards! The service was spot on, very efficient and all needs catered to. The server was very friendly and accommodating, happy to pass on recommendations and engage in conversation. The portions of food were very generous and full of flavour, the chicken was succulent and melted in the mouth. We enjoyed the Chicken Madras, Korma, Biryani, Pilau and Steamed Rice, Nan Breads, Japati, Tandori Sheesh Kebab and poppadoms. All were some of the best we've had - having eaten at many top Indian Restaurants before, we all agreed this was likely best yet. The prices are good and fair, you can tell that each dish is cooked with passion and only the best food is sent out. Would have no hesitation in returning and intend to on our next Holiday here. Had a fantastic meal here, we have tried a lot of Indian restaurants but this one is even better than our favourite one at home. The staff were friendly and couldn’t be more helpful, they took pride in presentation, service was quick, food was succulent, we were a table of 7 and we had a variety of dishes, we were not disappointed with any of them. The atmosphere was lovely, even tho there were other diners in the restaurant it did not feel noisy or crowded. I would happily recommend people to come here they will not disappointed you can see and taste why they have achieved elite status. We will be returning here again next year on our holiday.

Terrible - ordered one meal as a take away and they managed to get it wrong even after being assured they could do make it. Also, extremely small portion which is very unusual as I normally find takeaway portions are far to large. I certainly won't be going back there and advise anyone ordering a take away from here to check what they receive before they leave. It wasn't worth my time or fuel to travel back there to complain or change it, instead the meal went in the bin as I couldn't eat it.

Many times better than the Raj Pavilion in Kingston-upon-Hull.

I will never return. Disappointing. The restaurant had two other tables occupied, but they sat me next to a post as close to the others as possible, not somewhere quiet. They refused to give me a glass of tap water, citing correctly that they are not required by law to provide this. It would be a courtesy in a place where they serve spicy/hot food. Instead they prefer to charge £2.99 for a small bottle of water. They did offer this for free when I said I would just have the ice in the glass. They offered a poppadum (£0.99), but charged an additional £3.50 on the bill for the condiments tray without me knowing. Ordered paneer masala, and the paneer was unfortunately not good - really rubbery and tasteless. I've had much nicer paneer from Sainsbury's. Perhaps other dishes are delicious, but I will never know. I should have ordered takeaway because the prices are somewhat lower on the takeaway menu.

Tried all other curry houses in Newquay over the years of visits. Found the best one last. Great staff. Good choice of curry's- I had one not on menu. Good service. Not rushed. Bit loud as you are close to everyone - but it made it a very decent atmosphere. Only wanted water - came with ice. Good portions. Bit more expensive than some - but absolutely worth the experience. Will try takeaway next but it will be our go to place. Lovely curry house. Car park Bit tight. Can't have everything. Please visit if you haven't done already - we've wasted our time at others.

We dined here on our last night of a week in porth great restaurant with matching service, food was excellent beautifully cooked and presented we would Highley recommend this restaurant and would like to thank all members of the staff for a perfect meal

This is a mixed review as the food was very good, no problems what so ever, ther service was good, my only gripe was the price. We had 4 poppadoms with sauces and onions, 3 currys with rice and 2 naan breads, we had 1 soft drink each and it was £100. It just left a sour taste on what would have been a very nice meal. I just felt a bit ripped off, in my head I thought £60/£70 tops. When he dropped the bill of and it was near as damn it £100 I was surprised. Otherwise very good.

As Indian i just wanna be honest… when we came there they didn’t even greet us or no offers for the water , i don’t recommend any asian peoples to come here for eating maybe for neighbours as well, they use same gravy’s for all the dishes, the naan is pretty good but the chicken biryani was worst dish i had ever tried

Lovely restaurant, excellent food and very friendly and accommodating hosts. We ordered the tandoori platter and lamb tawa, the flavours were spot on. The complimentary accompaniments were a nice touch. Keep it up guys!

Had the takeaway so can't comment on the atmosphere, but the food is second to none, meat in the Currys was good cuts decent size and plenty of best Currys in Newquay maybe even Cornwall well worth a visit

Fantastic selection of dishes, and the vast majority of them are customisable depending on what meat (or not) you want. Excellent vegetarian options. Best aloo gobi I've ever had.

Got a Chicken Tikka Massala it was the time I'd been there, but it was very good, and the portion size was larger than my usual takeaway. I will definitely go back

This is a great Indian restaurant, food was delicious. I had chicken tikka masala lots of chicken in it, daughters had butter chicken which was packed full of chicken too. This place gives you good value for your money. The Nan breads was lovely too, keema nan especially. The staff couldn’t do enough for you on what was a very busy Saturday night. The bonus was you can take your own alcohol to consume there, which in other restaurant puts a lot of money on your bill, really can’t wait to go back again when next in Newquay, book that table you won’t be disappointed.

Here for the first time on a Monday evening in March. Went from one to seven tables in just an hour. Very good food and terrific service. Portions are large, rice can feed two as can the naans. As it got busier, people were having to wait for quite a while for their mains to come out. If you're in a hurry, then this may not be the place for you. At least four takeaway orders fulfilled in the 90 minutes we were there. Highly recommended. Parking on site available.
