Sunny Spice (Fowey) in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Fabulous food and very friendly staff. Best Chicken Passanda I’ve had in ages, the vindaloo was amazing and proper spicy!! Can’t wait to go again!!

Spent the week in town and decided we would go for an Indian takeaway as we had eaten out all week! Easy to order by telephone, walked in the restaurant on time and was handed the food as I arrived, paid and out within a minute! Food was very tasty and good portions. Well worth a visit, busy over weekends.l so recommend you book.

Upon arrival in Fowey after a 6 hour train journey we called Sunny Spice who were readily available and easily accessible via Google maps, we ordered the Butter Chicken with Pilau rice and the King Prawn curry both delicious. A warm welcome to a new part of the world, if you haven't visited YOU SHOULD BE HERE! Great staff, service and beautiful spot. Highly recommend!

Ordered a biryani for takeaway / collection. What I received was pilau rice with vegetables in and some base curry sauce. It was also cold. This is not a biryani. If they hadn't prepared for biryani they shouldn't have taken my order. My wife described the "biryani" as the worst curry she'd ever had. Won't be returning.

Only gave 2 stars for the service but the food was so poor. Lamb biryani we had to hunt for 5 small pieces of tasteless lamb....chicken tikka masala had no taste at all and even the onion bhaji were bland! Poorest curry experience ever for us. Sorry

Having moved down from the midlands a few years ago, we've struggled to find a really good curry in Cornwall. This place is amazing though - great dosas and some very authentic tasting dishes. Will definitely be back.

Really enjoyed our visit lovely food and fantastic staff. Service is great really know what they are doing checking that your happy with everything. I had Rogan josh and it was so nice not to spicy like some I have had. I did hear one of the other customers say there curry was not over spicy and how good it was. I would give it a try. We will be back next time on Holiday down they way.

I didn't expect to get the best Dosa I've had in Fowey.

The most delicious Indian meal I have had in a long time. A focus on flavour over heat. Even the chutney tray was exquisite with the mint yoghurt the best I've had. Sunny's Special Trio was delicious and highly recommended.

Good curry house. Central location in Fore Street. Quite a small room with steep upstairs to toilets. Slightly unfamiliar menu featuring Southern Indian dishes, which can be quite hot with chilli. Lovely service and good food. Well recommended.

Fantastic again! Our 5th and 6th trip to this restaurant, and fantastic as ever, the Paneer Dosa was amazing. As per my previous reviews, if you are expecting the usual lamb vindaloo, this is NOT the place to go, but if you want to try the more delicately flavoured South Indian style, this is one of the few places you will find that does it.

It’s not bad, but neither is that good. Chicken Korma w. Rice was fine, and the MIX CHICKEN KABAB was good too.

A major concern of mine when visiting Indian restaurants is inaccurate spice indication. I am more than pleased to say Sunny Spice did not disappoint. The food was excellent, and all 6 of my family members were very satisfied with their food. Prices were phenomenal for what we got. Not to mention, top service. When perusing the area for dinner places, we went ahead and asked if they could save us space for later. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a spot at an adequate table later on in the evening. Furthermore, staff checked on us several times to make sure all was well (which it was). Decorations and music were fitting, and pleasant, but nothing extraordinary. Highly recommend!

Upon arriving, we waited at the counter whilst several members of staff went about their business without even acknowledging that we were standing there… after a few minutes, one of the girls looked our way and proceeded to show us to a table. We ordered our drinks and then waited to order the meal. We’ve been to this restaurants many times over the years so knowing that the portions are large, we ordered 2 12 lagers, a chicken tikka jalfrezi to share, 1 rice, chips, a plain naan and 2 popadoms. I can honestly say, I don’t think I’ve ever tasted such a bland, tasteless curry, even the chicken (supposedly chicken tikka) was bland. Jalfrezi is described on the menu as hot but it had no spice whatsoever, it was creamy and flavourless. It was more like a creamy masala. At no point during the meal did anyone come over to ask if our food was ok, it was like you’ve had what you’re getting, get on with it! My husband doesn’t mind a creamy curry but I don’t so I ended up with a plate of rice and poppadoms. No one bothered to come over to check on us at all, even when we went to the counter to pay, nobody asked how the meal was, they just wanted to be paid the £38.50. We won’t be visiting them again!!

I had ‘Fish Cutlet’ to start, and I was presented with a frozen fish cake which seemed cheap but was OK. I had ‘Aleppey Beef’ for main which was exceptionally bland, beef itself wasn’t too bad. My family also complained of bland taste and rubbery meat. Rice and naan breads weren’t bad. Definitely not worth the long wait to get served

Lovely friendly restaurant. Food was very good quality, tasty and well prepared but very very mild for our expectations.

Visited twice in one week as our first experience was a real taste experience. The South Indian spices and the high quality ingredients make this a real food experience for Indian cuisine lovers. Highly recommend but strongly suggest booking your visit. As it is very popular expect a reasonable delay.

Portion size was extremely small on both starter and main and pricey. Food wasn't very tasty but waiter was friendly enough.

😠On the 1st of June 2024 we went to 😡your restaurant my girlfriend saw the staff standing up and eating food in the kitchen eating food and there were serving the food at the same time as well. Did they wash their hands? No, she didn’t see them wash their hands, this is disgusting. This is against health and safety. If staff want to eat food they should eat it at a table. In their break not while standing up at a table or in the kitchen my girlfriend does not want to recommend this restaurant to anyone. I hope you got something good to say. Please change your policy or you are going to have less customers. Remember it’s a small town.

Best Indian we have been to,we went three times this week with various visitors whilst on hols. Staff are so friendly and attentive. Can’t recommend more!!

The food was OK but the ambience wasn't, the place looked tired and in need of refurbishment. What put us off was seeing the waiters eating with their hands in the the kitchen and then coming to serve food without washing their hands, really unhygienic. I was OK after the meal but my partner had diarrhoea. We won't go there again.

The restaurant was very busy and you could see how hard they were working and still the food was top quality, delicious and the order was all correct. Th e staff are very kind and helpful and I can’t wait to go back. Good value too!

On a wet miserable Sunday evening out of season this place was a welcome break! Met at the door by a very pleasant happy man who showed us to our table. We had the poppadoms to start and the dips were excellent not the normal offer. Our mains Goan fish and the Chilli beef...delicious, bursting with flavour just excellent.

ordered takeaway, shockingly bad. mutter paneer was insanely small, about 1/4 of the container was full. bland and no spice, even though it’s described as spicy. barely fed one person and £13. had a tandoori roti and was honestly worse, genuinely inedible… dry, not slightly flakey or crispy, no flavour of any kind. tasted like a gluten free tortilla. the worst indian i’ve ever eaten in my life. if you are a boring white person who has no interest in authentic flavours, you’ll love this place! 😍

Good value for dinner in Fowey and quick service - we stumbled on this by chance while on holiday and pleased we went! Glad we ate inside the restaurant instead of getting a takeaway too.

We were staying in Fowey last week in a self catering property so decided to grab a take out from Sunny Spice one night. Couldn’t fault it at all. We eat curry’s a lot and can be quite fussy but all the dishes we had were delicious, full of flavour, plenty of meat and not disgustingly greasy like some places! Not the biggest portions but the quality was perfect. Will eat in the restaurant when we visit next

Have been here several times before but just had the best curry. Portions very generous with good service. I believe they have a new chef which I would highly recommend..

Very disappointing, when booked we stated 5 seats plus room for baby in push chair but when arrived we was given a table for 4 people and staff didn’t understand what wanted so we just found ourselfs the right table in a empty restaurant, waited 20 mins to be offered a drink then waited for further 1 hour 20 for food to come within this time we had to go to the bar to ask for more drinks, when food arrived biriani sauce was very small for amount of rice the sag paneer tasted like it was frozen and done in microwave. As for the toilets very dirty and so small they had to fit sliding door as can’t open door into bathroom which also didn’t have any baby changing facility’s , finally when as the bar to pay bill you can see into the kitchen where I seen the chef serving rice onto place with bare hands from a large bowl which put nail in coffin for me, shame as we are local and will never return there again

I can say it was the worst Indian I have ever had don't weast your money will never eat there again very disappointed poor quality food over priced

Every dish was delicious. Mushroom and spinach dhosa, shredded cabbage with coconut, vegetable biryani, mango lassi. Good atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff. Not expensive (cost us £40 for two people including drinks and we were full after). Massive recommend. First time visiting, will be back.

Had a takeaway. We are used to tomato based Bangladesh type madras curries and this was more coconut cream based. Was different but still enjoyed it. We will go back and try something different next time .

The review format doesn’t allow for ‘takeaway’ but this review is about that anyway. What superb food is produced here. The staff are charming and smiley and the prices are absolute value for money. We had Chicken Madras and Lamb Jalfrezy as mains, with Aloo Gobi, plain Basmati Rice and some Tandoori Rotis. What a fabulous tasty, beautifully cooked feast we had. Can’t resist, going again soon!

Restaurant was cold had to keep my coat on , handrails to toilets were in need of a serious clean food was of a poor standard we are experienced curry eaters the quality here is less than good ! Avoid if you can .

Lovely meal at Sunny Spice, starters were good, the vegetable Kadai had lots of flavour and the garlic naan one of the best I have ever had. The pahardi kebab was lovely marinated chicken with extra sauce served with it. The service was friendly and it was a lovely meal out.

Great South Indian meal. All six meals were enjoyed and the service very good. Our second time in 18 months when back in Fowey.

Second time to Cornwall in nearly 40 years. Was staying at Trenython Manor 3 miles from Fowey. Love a curry and found this establishment near by. You never know what your going to get at a new curry wasn't disappointed. They ticked all the boxes for me. I will be back for more Well done

We could tell right from the start that this was going to be great food. It was very clean and tidy and all presented very well. We could see the chefs cooking away, immaculately dressed in their whites. Everything we had was fresh, delicately spiced and tasted amazing. We have been lucky enough to visit quite a few indian restaurants and this we believe is one of the best maybe even the best.

We visited Sunny Spice whilst on holiday in Fowey. The food, service and location were all so fantastic that we booked again for a second meal. Staff are very friendly, lovely menu choices that offers a change from ‘standard’ curry houses in the UK. Would recommend to anyone visiting Fowey.

Amazing! One of the best curry houses I know! They serve southern indian cuisine, perfectly prepared, delicately spiced and absolutely superb. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you want to try a totally different dish to the usual curry, have their massalla dosai! This was the second year we have visited and it was well worth the journey by boat! Nice chatty staff too!

Not one for Indian food but this one was absolutely fantastic

We've been wanting to try Sunny Spice since we booked our holiday and were eager to try the dosas advertised. Friendly staff, dosas were amazing and the dips for the poppadoms were to die for!... However I cannot rate higher than 3 stars due to a few reasons: the chilli chicken main was more like one you'd find in a Chinese takeaway, the keema naan was a little bland, and sadly one of our party got food poisoning from the mushroom starter (they're ok now but had an unpleasant night!). I think we just got unlucky to be honest, though we will not be going back this holiday to be safe!

I've eaten here (and had takeaways) many times over the past 4 or 5 years. The meal we had in late July 2023 was by far the best we've had. There was a new chef in the kitchen, and the food was of much better quality and taste. Thanks for a great evening and meal.

Trying a new curry house can be risky but this one won’t disappoint! We tumbled into the restaurant soaked from the rain and were greeted by lovely, cheerful staff. We both got two Sunny’s special trio, meaning we had six different curry’s to try. Great idea for when you can’t decide and the waiter was happy to give us a rundown on all of them. We enjoyed every one! Sadly we don’t live near here but if we are ever a the area this will be first on our list!
