Grameen in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Booked a table of 8. All of us really liked our meals. Curry and naans were delicious. Served piping hot. Service was excellent too. Thank you to all staff 😊

We are German tourists and have been traveling to Great Britain for many years. We like to visit Indian restaurants. We really had a great meal here. Highly recommended. Very friendly service (also in German! Parking was found without any problems 100 meters in front of the restaurant.

Original review - Tawa tikka garlic chili. Top drawer. Thank you. - 25/10 Update - We have been customers of the Grameen since it opened and have always supported them, but in the latest menu the pricing is horrendous. So due to the fact that most mains are over £10 and most sides £4-5, we decided we couldn't afford breads and wotnot, so we just ordered 2 mains and a veg side. This resulted in a total including delivery of nearly £31. For 2 main dishes. I was told 45mins for delivery. 90 minutes later no food, called in whereupon the bored individual on the other end told me the food had 'literally' just left (great news), and then kept repeating how sincerely apologetic he was whilst sounding neither sincere or apologetic, then put the phone down on me. The food turned up 10 mins later (now just about an hour late) and it was barely warm, all dishes needing the microwave. The mains were poorly made and hugely over-spiced for the expected heat (we have the tikka garlic chilli we usually have, it was waaaay too hot) and the tarka daal was thick like stodgy porridge . They simply do not care anymore. Won't be going to them again and this is the only avenue to let them know they need to sort their game out. In summation over-charged for late, cold and poorly cooked food.

My friends and I always enjoy eating there and always have a good evening. I only have one issue, please could you clear up the outside area, near the cycle track. It's looks very unattractive with all the catering tubs lying around, weeds growing in and around them. It's not a good look. I often walk there which is how I'm aware if this.

Food was made on time. Portion were adequate but the taste was not good. I was expecting much better than that.

BAD VERY POOR SERVICE . STAFF IS VERY VERY RUDE ESPECIALLY THE OLD MAN WHO THREATENED US TO NOT COME BACK WHEN WE TOLD THE SERVICE WAS POOR AND NEED TO IMPROVE . WE JUST GAVE A FEEDBACK AND THEY SAID GET OUT AND DONT COME WE HAVE ENOUGH CUSTOMERS WE WERE TOLD IF HE KNEW WE WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT THE FOOD AND SERVICE HE WOULD HAVE SPAT IN THE FOOD AND SERVE IT TO US. It was a terrible experience they should be shut we have also reported it to the cornwall council. Many good other restaurants are around please don’t visit this place.

Told a time for delivery, never rang till he'd walked about when we were told a time to go to main entrance of camp site to collect , so food was cold, I excepted free poppadoms as ive had before nothing free. And tiny pot of onion relish really bad for price.

Horrible experience last night at this place. The staff charged us upfront as we were going to take a takeaway. However, we decided to have food in the restaurant. We were advised (rather rudely) the charge would be 2£ higher per dish which is acceptable. Food was underwhelming, excessive food colouring. Place was absolutely dirty. Service was unacceptably rude and inhospitable. The staff tried to scam us by giving us the bill again towards end of the meal. Unprofessional behaviour.

Had a very enjoyable take away meal for our whole family. Excellent food without a doubt.

Hot and stuffy but the main problem we had was with the serving staff. Our plates were delivered for the main course dirt. When this was pointed out the waiter prodded the plate with his fingers to remove the detritus and only changed the plates for clean ones when asked. He then went on to serve the main course whilst managing to dip his shirt front and cuffs in our food. The main course was of poor quality and lacked taste, flavor and heat…. A bad experience overall. We left feeling like the place needed a good hose down

Disappointing experience! The staff were unfriendly and unclear about their parking policy. When we arrived to dine in, we were told that the parking was only for takeaway orders, which was not what we expected. The lack of clear communication and unwelcoming staff made for a poor start to our visit.

Came across this Indian restaurant purely by luck as staying in Carbis Bay....probably one of the best Currys I've ever had. As a family of 4 we were all very impressed. Food was amazing and very friendly staff. Highly recommend.

At the end good. This is first time I had a delivery from grameen tandoori. I placed an order worth of £126. I requested to the delivery driver to drop off my food at my door. Unfortunately, the delivery guy waited in a different place and I had to go to him to collect my food. I asked him “please can I have my receipt?”. When he refused it to me I was shocked. He was showing me the total amount not the itemised balance. I told him please accept my apology but without a receipt I cannot receive the order. He told me “I will not give you food” And then a nasty women appeared out of nowhere and told me f………k off. I got a bit scared as I had no idea where she came from. When I saw her after she was going with the delivery driver in the same car. I tried to open his car door but he drove off with her. Still not sure why she is with him. After the incident I called the restaurant and explained the situation. The gentleman answered the phone and told me that they can not say anything to the delivery driver because he is an English white man. What a special English delivery driver serving a Bangladeshi restaurant owner? After 10 minutes the restaurant owner called me and apologised. I also apologised to him.I am on holiday from Birmingham with my family and I have not come here argue with a delivery driver. The Owner was extremely apologies and nice and that is why I received the order and paid him £126 without checking the receipt. Food was good and warm. They had given me a few popadoms free with a large packet of Salad.

Food had a lot of flavour, meat was perfect No bad tummies following day

Unfortunately I must say the food I had was easily the worst Indian meal I ever had. Indian food is all about flavour and spices. The food that I got was all bland and lacking any flavour whatsoever. Not only one, but all of the dishes we ordered (about 5-6) were the same poor quality. I don't leave reviews very often but on this occasion my experience was so poor I thought I would warn others against using this place.

It was my wonderful experience, staff was really cooperative and friendly, not much expensive prices are reasonable but the taste is 10/10 very very delicious 😋 will go there again

Just ordered a chicken tikka and a fair few other bits beats all our curry housing from where we’re from and they apparently the best in the south so hats off to you guys Thankyou very much 10/10

ordered online and collected the food, very friendly staff, food was excellent as always. Full of flavour and the peshwari naan are incredible.

Really delicious food, excellent and friendly service. We were able to relax and continue chatting after we’d finished our meal, no hustling us out with the bill.

The food was very plain and bland. The lamb was supper fatty, the chicken was like rubber. It could have just been the dishes we had but I wouldn't go back. The staff was gr8

One of the best curries we have ever tried

Grameen Tandoori is one of the best Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant in the UK and definitely in Cornwall. The food is very delicious and the service is outstanding. I came from London for a week to stay in Cornwall. My stay was amazing at Cornwall because of Grameen's outstanding food and the quality service. Thank you.

Best place to dine Indian cuisine in Hayle Cornwall

Excellent food and service. A perfect place to have a relaxed evening with lovely food.

EDIT: They're online service is shoddy, twice now have they "not seen" my order and have had us waiting over 2 hours for delivery. Best Indian food I've tried yet! I've been ordering from here for almost 15 years and the food quality is superb. I would give 5 stars if they had either an app or website that could accept orders online paid by card. Unfortunately, having delivery means you need cash on hand, which ultimately means lost business to other Indian restaurants when in today's society most people don't carry cash.

Lovely food and good service but looks a bit like a transport cafe but don’t let that put you off

Very pleased we went here, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent choice of food and no complaints about the service. The chicken dishes were excellent. Parking had to be on the street nearby but that was no great problem. We will definitely return here.

Nice food, bit pricey for what you got

Nice Bangladeshi restaurant. Staff is extremely friendly. This is probably the hottest curry I have ever tasted (phall). Be careful if you try it. Would recommend if visiting Hayle.

Three of us staying in Hayle visited on Saturday night. Very welcoming staff. We had 3 different mains with rice, bread and sides. All excellent, and hot. Very reasonably priced, recommend.

Good food. We ate mostly veggie stuff and it was all delicious. Early on a Tuesday in September it was quiet. But the staff were attentive and all very good. Quite quiet, low-key & relaxed. Which it probably isn't on a Friday in August.

Great meal. Superb flavours and not too much hot spice

Decided to have an Indian last night and chose to go to Grameen. All 3 of us were very pleased with our choices. My go to meal is always a Chicken Dharmsala but wanted to try something different so the waiter suggested the Chicken Tikka Chilli Garlic which was really tasty and had a bit of a kick. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, which was really nice. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

Very bland food. Asked for it to be cooked with extra space but this must have been ignored. Daal was the worse I've ever tasted, king prawns were under cooked and prawn puree again was tasteless. I hope they start to take more attention to flavouring as indian/Bangladeshi cuisine is one of the most aromatic and flavoursome cuisine around the world. I felt I wasted good money on very bland food.

Very tired looking restaurant. The one toilet that they have urgently needs a good clean and a fresh lick of paint, the skirting board is black with grime. Really unpleasant. Food was very basic and not much love went into it to be honest. It got cold very quickly as the air conditioning was turned up to the max and it’s not presented with any burners to keep it warm as you serve it. There are two Indians in Hayle perhaps try the other one

Whilst staying at the St Ives Beach Holiday Park, we took a chance last night and 7 of us booked a table at the Grameen Tandoori. I have to say none of us were disappointed. Absolutely brilliant quality Indian food and second to none service. The management and their team were very friendly and helpful to advise us on our food selection. If I had to be incredibly picky, I’d suggest if the english guy who works the bar and serves your table food although being very attentive and efficient, could help his customers experience if he just smiled when he spoke to his customers. Everyone else maintained a very friendly approach and made for a lovely evening. I’d certainly return if I’m ever in the area again & would highly recommend this resturant.

Came from Manchester and was looking for halal restaurants to eat from. This restaurant made us feel welcomed and the food was very filling ! The staffs were really nice too, In sha Allah will be coming back again !

Amazing food. We had biryani and butter chicken, both delicious. The owners are also very nice people - we loved talking to them! Overall, we had a fantastic evening at Grameen Tandoori.

It is the worst place to be. I have never ever experienced such rude staff. Don’t waste your time for such rude service and staff.

This restaurant is pathetic, very racist to Asian people. We went their for dinner, placed our order (poppadum, garlic mashroom, lamb biryani, onion fried rice and saag daal). How RUDE the guy at the till came to us while we were eating our poppadum and told us that our order is for Takeaway not for serving at the table because it was just £25…… he didn’t bother to apologise or showing any curtesy . We are tourist coming from London where you even go to 5 star hotel even for cup of tea/ dessert. But here I guess you have to order for at least £100 to seat in this exclusive restaurant and eat. Shame on you people how you made us feel…. No feeling nothing. I fell in love with Cornwall but after this experience I’m done with Cornwall and their people. How could you ask someone to get your food takeaway because it was only for £25??? And the guy mentioned that he has so many customers waiting for the tables who can spend more than us and he would like to give our table to them. My dear you are also Asian, don’t forget where you come from and how to treat people.

I very rarely leave reviews even if we've had a bad experience but felt compelled to write a review in this case. Food came out with no sauce (completely dried up) and tasted completely bland, didn't even taste like a curry. When we complained about the food very politely, quietly and embarrassed, the owner, (not the gentleman with the grey hair who is lovely) came out from the kitchen and started shouting at us very loudly, he really lost his cool, we remained quiet and were shocked at his behaviour. The restaurant was full and everybody stopped talking and eating to watch him making a fool of himself. Needles to say we didn't get a replacement and the disgusting, sub standard food cost us nearly £50 ! Have NEVER experienced behaviour like this and we will NEVER return to this terrible Curry house. BEWARE !

Had delivery, food was great & delivery was quick.

Loved the place. Specially the service. Hey recommended us the right food according to our spice limits. Not only that, he also gave us suggestions about the touristy places in Cornwall and helped us the taxi services. Lamb Bhuna was great. Chicken Tikka Biryani wasn’t a hit, but naan and other starters were on point.

Me and the family decided to get a Indian for my birthday on the 17th, we ordered the food during the day to make sure we got an early delivery (deliveries from 18.00). Come 18.25 no delivery, so I called them up only to find out the food was ready but the delivery driver was late. The food turned up it was Luke warm at best, we also ordered a chicken dish which we wanted lamb instead, we wrote notes on the order both on the line the food was ordered on but also in the notes at the end. The food arrived and sure enough they gave me chicken in place of lamb, I called them up straight away and first of all they said there wasn’t anything written in the notes, I then informed him I have a copy of the receipt which has the request was clearly on there, they then said they would look into this and get back to me. Of course they didn’t bother following this up. It’s a shame, we were all looking forward to this birthday treat, food was bland, arrived late, cold and wrong! On top of this the people working there are liars. I come to Hayle every year I will not ever go back to this place ever again!! Big let down!!

Ordered 3 separate dishes and all were bland. The chicken tikka was dry and tough and the papadums tasted like they had been cooked in engine oil. Overall very poor and wont be using again.

Myself and a couple of friends ate at the restaurant on Saturday. Sadly the food was bland and dry. The waiter had an argument with a couple who were obviously complaining about their food too. Will definitely not be returning 👎

Eat here often as it is one of our local Indians. Food is always lovely, never had any problems and staff are friendly and attentive. Naan breads are delicious as are the curries.

During our last two holidays in the area we have ordered takeaways from here. I always order a chicken madras and my husband always chooses different dishes, this time he ordered the chicken and mushroom balti, we also had rice and naan breads. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will definitely be ordering from here again when we are back in April.

This is a return visit of many and we always come back here for a sit down meal while on holiday in Hayle/St Ives. Good hot food and plenty of it, great service with a smile and the babies were well accommodated. There were 7 adults and 2 babies so I'd booked ahead. We enjoyed our sit down meal so much that some of us came back for take out later in the week!! Again it was gorgeous food and plenty of it.

It was fairly late in the evening and we very hungry in Hayle and chanced upon this restaurant. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The poppadoms were ok with chutney, pickle etc, the main courses (one salmon and one prawn) were reputedly of different styles...

The best Indian we have had in several years. Good food and nice staff. Will be going back.

Had a takeaway, boiled rice good, peshwari naan was tasty if a little too greasy .. the chicken tikka masala jalfrezi (I think???) was 80% sauce and 5 or 6 chunks of chicken...it was OK. Nothing special, although service was polite. My meal cost £16.
