Truro Tandoori in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We went here for dinner and they refused us entry because we had a two year old infant with us. They mentioned they don’t allow kids under 2 but our child was definitely 2 and we were still denied entry. Just a terrible terrible excuse and experience

We had a great night out. The food was delicious. It was hot and served in good time for our large group. The vegan was catered for and enjoyed her first ever curry. Will definitely be going back

And I can see from your response that you put all that time and effort to good use, crafting a patronising, arrogant and offensive response. Congratulations. You have one job - serving customers. That requires acknowledging complaints and criticism and working to make things better. If you can’t do that with grace, sell up and go do something else with no human interaction. P.s. if you truly read my other reviews, you would know I have zero tolerance for patronising and arrogant replies… Downgraded to 1 star - and more on the way. (Original review - sometimes in 2016) Bland, overly sweet, overpriced. Been married into a South-Asian family, I eat Indian food very regularly, both home cooked and from curry houses - this restaurant is just really not up to par. * Very expensive for a curry house - menu saved online is not up to date, add at least one pound each dish. * Food is very far from traditional and not good even by curry house standards. Chicken Dhansak, meant to be medium to hot and sweet and sour, was very sweet, not sour at all, just a touch above mild - to the point I nearly asked for extra chillies - and had no real taste. Chana (chickpea) Masala, meant to be cooked in a spiced tomato sauce with coriander through it, was again very sweet, with no discernible spices and no coriander - again, not at all what it should taste like. If all you want in a curry is sweet tomato sauce and just a subtle hint of chilli - and don't mind paying about one and a half times what you should - definitely go. If not, just don't.

Exceptionally average curries at prices where you'd expect better. If you've ever had a curry outside of Cornwall you're going to be disappointed. Go somewhere else. Edit: Bizarrely, the restaurant responded to my review 11 years later! I gave them an extra star for taking me down memory lane.

We went to another local restaurant and were not welcomed with a table or drink service so decided to leave and try elsewhere. Glad we did as had the most welcoming service and delicious meal at Trueo Tandoori. Wouldn’t hesitate to return as food and service exceptional.

Flavourful food. The staff is extremely friendly and hospitality was top notch. Rogan Josh curry was a delight, we will definitely be back. Highly recommended!!

Best indian food I‘ve tasted in Truro. It‘s authentic and I’m very impressed that I wanted to get the recipe. It was worth the long wait. And I would recommend for you to try the chicken thigh tawa and vegetable biryani. Service was super and amazing staff especially the owner who was very kind to entertain us. Thank you☺️!

Me and my partner tried this Indian after seeing really good reviews. The staff were really friendly and attentive. The reviews I read did say about it being a little pricey. From our experience, the food wasn’t the cheapest but it was absolutely amazing and we had no issue paying for the quality of food we received. My only issue was that we had 4 diet cokes and it came to £20. I felt like £5 a drink was quite a lot but when we come again, which we definitely will, we will probably have tap water as it bumped the bill by quite abit. Other than that I would 100% recommend this place to anyone who loves good quality Indian food.

We are spending one night in Truro right now with my wife, as we’re going back to London from Penzance. We were looking for an Indian restaurant next to our guesthouse and we haven’t been disappointed at all. We are warmly welcome and we order food and wine. The service is quick and very kind. The waiter who takes care of us is sympathetic and cares for us at any time, even offering to take pictures and a small video spontaneously. Our dishes are tasty, not too spicy, and generously served. We don’t take a desert after that awesome meal. We’re 12 hours from home but if we had to stay in Truro again, there’s no doubt that we would come again.

I just find the prices here eye watering. The “traditional” section chicken (not even tikkered) is £17 without rice! It’s basic food. Just because you present it with a half cherry tomato on the plate is no excuse for charging so much. With all the competition as well ! Massively overpriced.

We were hungry and an Indian restaurant was a good alternative to fish and chips, burgers etc. We were there at lunchtime and had free choice of seating. The furnishings are not new but that doesn't matter because there is something about the lived-in atmosphere. The boss is unique, very sociable, friendly and hard-working. Since we were the only guests at that moment, it was understandable. The food was very tasty. What bothered me a bit was the price of the draft beer (£9 for a beer) and the rice was £5 per portion, and the nan bread was also £5. This is not common, at least for Germans. But what was good again was that there was a rich starter on offer for free. Overall a very nice stay with a great meal. THANKS !

We can't fault the service and the quality of the food, it was delicious. I'm not certain it's necessary to charge £9 for a pint of San Miguel though. That said we highly recommended Truro Tandoori.

A must, if you're in Truro and want to have a fantastic meal. Ingredients are of high quality and presented in an elegant way. Service is very friendly.

Food was nice enough about average. Shocked when I saw the bill though £90 for 2 starters 2 mains and naan/poppadoms etc plus 2 drinks including £14 for a glass of mediocre wine. Haven't paid those prices in London. Staff very friendly and attentive which isn't surprising as they hover around another victim to fleece. Beans on toast tomorrow.

We found this place by chance but the food, atmosphere and cleanliness really impressed us. We were visiting Cornwall for a few days but we made sure to come again during our stay and the place didn’t disappoint.

Had a lovely meal here last night with my partner. Everything was perfect, the restaurant is lovely and the food was amazing! You are made to feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. We will definitely be returning 😊

We had lunch for 3. Madras with chicken, Orange Komla Labu with prawns and Dal Pakhtooni with chicken. Lovely food, perfect service. We got a Tandori mix free of charge as a lunch gift. Will come back for sure.

Turned up with 12 of us, then very quickly left when we realised the price of the beverages and also witnessing a mother being asked to leave with a youngster. £9 a pint, Jesus!

Truro Tandoori came highly recommended, a few weeks ago we had a look inside and yes it was very nice, we had friends visiting so I decided to book it. Now I am not very good with Indian food in knowing what to order, plus I am partly sighted which can make things difficult, in the past I have had a dish called Chicken Royal and it was nice but when I explained to the guy running the place I felt very insulted he mocked me and said "This isn't the (Another restraint) " we have used it was more the way he said and laughing in my face, to be honest I nearly walked out, when you can't see that well that wasn't nice sorry. In the end he was helpful but it put me off I would never go back sorry.

We recently celebrated a 70th Birthday and all 5 of us enjoyed our delicious meals. The service was excellent as was the menu choice and quality of food. Large sized portions and a good atmosphere too. What more could you ask for!

The whole experience deserves 5 stars. We were a group of 5, all of us felt the food, staff and atmosphere was superb. We can't recommend the Truro Tandoori enough. Thank you 😊

Saz is a great host and is very welcoming… food is very good and I’ve never had a bad meal from here. Consistently brilliant!

A bit spicy but good quality food.

We popped in for dinner early on a Friday evening and were pleasantly surprised. The amount of choice on the menu was great, especially as my young son has only just started trying spicy food. Impeccable service, lovely food (and not swimming in oil like some curry) and plenty left over to take home. Will definitely visit again.

Do not dine here if you have children. We had a truly awful experience at Truro Tandoori on New Years Eve 2023. We are three local families and booked for an early supper for 6 adults and 7 children aged 5-9. We understand that we are a larger group with youngsters and so booked for 5pm so we wouldn’t disturb diners later. When we arrived we were the only ones in the restaurant and were seated downstairs next to the toilets. Another group of 4 adults arrived and were seated next to us. At this stage, we were waiting for the last family to arrive and the adults were stood chatting to each other. The other group asked to be moved to a quieter table which is understandable. They remained the only other diners in the restaurant. We ordered drinks and our final guest arrived after a shift which had overrun at Treliske. The owner then came over to take our orders; at this stage, our children were still all sat down and playing card games or colouring together. The owner seemed nervous and kept pointing to the children and saying he had other customers to serve (the restaurant was still empty). I asked if he was worried about the children; he pointed to the menu which said that children over 2 were welcome. But then pointed to a line underneath that said “if they are well behaved”. He then gestured to our children and said they were too noisy and he had other customers. The 7 children were all sat down and playing card games or drawing, chatting at a normal level. They were beautifully behaved for children of this age. We pointed this out but he still seemed nervous about taking our order. I asked him if he would prefer that we left. He said he would. I explained that we had nowhere to go and asked him once again whether he was actually going to throw us out. He said he was; and so, at 5.30pm on New Years Eve, our three families were turfed out of a curry house with nowhere to go. As we stood on the street outside in the rain and wind, I couldn’t quite believe that this had happened. There were still only 4 other customers in the restaurant as it was still early for adult-only diners. I cannot fathom a reason why the owner would or could have made this choice. We were extremely upset and my children were very concerned that they had been “naughty”. My son was worried that the police would be called because we’d been asked to leave. The whole group was devastated as our New Year Plans were destroyed. I would urge anyone with children to avoid booking in this restaurant. Even well behaved children, pre-booked at an early hour in an empty restaurant on a special occasion are not welcome. Please do not put your family in the same position and please share this with others.

Without a doubt the best food I’ve ever had. Freshly made, tasty…. Absolutely quality. They were also happy to any of the curries dairy free!

We enjoyed a classic tikka masala and house special chicken cardomom with peschwari. Had just the right amount of attention and the owner came up after our meal for a brief chat. Cosy and warm atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Food is really second to none, The service is welcoming and Friendly, Undoubtedly the best Indian Cuisine I have ever tasted, The prices are towards the high end to tell the truth but then well worth the money for a special dining experience. Placed a takeaway order via phone. Told order would be ready in 35 mins. Arrived on time they took payment. Then had to wait 15 mins for the food. Food was hot but very bland . Have been before a long time ago , food was great then. It was so bad this time I will never order from here again 😔

Nice enough, but the prices are hilariously bad and portions are small (particularly rice). The wife's curry alone was £22 (just the curry, not including rice or naan); my chicken tikka masala (no rice or naan) was £18. In most Indian restaurants you're paying £20 for curry, rice, naan and soft drink.

Fantastic Indian restaurant with the best atmosphere, service and food you can dream of!!! I had a fabulous lamb madras, but every single starters and side dish was simply delicious. I would warmly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Excellent service and food. I visited the Restuarant with a group of friends in September. Very friendly service. We ordered a range of food, including Vegan and vegetarian dishes. Everyone was very happy. I've tried the takeaway this evening, again the food was great. I particularly enjoyed the chicken vindaloo. Thank you, very pleased to have such a good indian close by!

Our first visit last night will not be our last. We received a warm welcome and very good service. Most importantly though, the food was excellent. Freshly cooked, light, fragrant and appetising, and quite clearly made from the best and freshest of ingredients. Indian food is not my favourite. However the restaurant was spotless, tidy and attractively laid out. The menu was vast and took a while to choose what we all wanted. The food was nice and for me, not too hot thanks to the guidance of our waiter. It is very popular and I think it wise to book.I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Been before after lock down, was very good, went again on a Monday night. Was very tasty, manager is friendly and welcomes you. Food is great. Parking can be difficult as it's in Lemon Street on a hill with mainly permit holder parking, I went after 6pm so not as bad. Tad more expensive than other places but still worth it

For a while you can kid yourself that the very nice decor and high prices (eye watering even for a Londoner) mean you are about to have a superb meal. You are not. The food is bland and you would still be disappointed if you paid half what they charge. My advice would be to go to one of the other places in Truro.

Excellent service and atmosphere on a Sat evening. Large menu of appetizers and entrees and especially styles of curries. We liked the family style presentation on warmers and the generous portions in matching individual dishes. This place is doing it right and is recommended.

Not for the first time, we chose Truro Tandoori for a takeaway meal and, as always, were not disappointed. We were served with superb food and more than generous portions. When we've eaten in the restaurant, we've been welcomed with warmth and courtesy and this was also the case when collecting our order. Thoroughly recommended.

Extremely overpriced. Small portions for an indian restaurant, but enough to fill you up. Staff were friendly but inattentive; prioritising clearing tables (in an empty restaurant) than serving you. Food was ok, but don't expect a lot of any "expensive" ingredients, i.e: anything that's not flour, grain, or water. Atmosphere was nice with modern indian music.

This is not a review of the food. This review relates to the poor customer care and how expensive this restaurant is. I ordered a takeaway. 3 main courses, 1 small starter, 2 Nans and condiments. I arrived and was ‘told’ £67 please. I asked them to check that the amount was correct. They said yes. No other explanation. Again, I said it was expensive. The owner/ waiter said ‘you have to pay for quality food’ I advised, I could go to Ganges or Kathmandu in Truro and get a superb meal and a lot cheaper. His reply was ‘our food is better quality’. My takeaway was brought out from the kitchen and the owner tells the waiter ‘take it back to the kitchen, he doesn’t want it’ I advised that I was very disappointed with his restaurant and stated that I would go to Ganges. Re ordered my meal exactly with Ganges, and picked it up 10 minutes later. Yes., it was delicious and excellent value at £43. I should have gone to Ganges again in the first place. Stick to what you know. By all means if you want to pay a fortune (and remember I had not ordered any drinks) go there. Ganges, is better value.

Food tasty but expensive beyond belief, £5.00 for a pint of cola which tasted like it was asda budget range , I'd normally order a king prawn dish but here they around £30 , thars ridiculous, wouldn't return.

Lovely authentic Indian food. Great quality. Authentic spicing. Quite expensive but generous portions. We will be back when we are in the area again.

It's been a long time since we had a curry from here but it never disappoints. It was worth the journey to collect it as a lockdown birthday treat. Organised like military precision, very generous portions but more importantly THE best takeaway we've had in a long time, Thank you!

Extremely expensive and not worth the price you pay, main, rice and a nan (cheese nan was literally a plain nan with a bit of sprinkled cheese on top) £25.

Just finished the most delicious takeaway meal absolutely stuffed with yummy food as always when we get them from here. If you an amazing Indian meal I can highly recommended them. Enjoy 😋
