We eggs royale and the quiche both were very nice although a bit pricey. We had seen the menu so we're aware of the price before so not a problem but I was surprised when I asked for salad dressing to find I'd been charged £1:50 for it. I have eaten in all kinds of cafes and restaurants all over the country and have never been charged for salad dressing. On reading previous reviews it seems that this café is prone to little add ons like someone who was charged £1:50 for an extra plate .Such a pity nice little café good food nice staff just seems a bit unnecessary.Graham and Audrey

Stopped off here for breakfast on our way to Whitby. Three egg omelette with salad was huge!! Really tasty too. My husband had the full English and loved the black pudding and tasty sausage. Decent peppermint and earl grey tea too. Not the cheapest place, but definitely worth it for the quality of the food served and the quantity. Highly recommended. Great service too.

We ate at this establishment a couple times while here visiting thirsk. The staff was tremendously helpful and friendly, and happy to go above and beyond to accommodate everyone inside. I'm also happy to say that being from the US the food is remarkably more fresh and delicious at a price that is extremely reasonable. The cost for two people to eat would be about a third of what it would normally cost in the US. The food is a much higher quality and freshness, I give this five out of five stars. Highly recommend visiting

Just wanted something light. We had homemade minestrone soup (made by Claire) with granary bread. The most lovely soup we have had in many years.. the staff were extremely helpful and even told us how it was made. Though we were on holiday we would definitely call again when in the area. Plenty of parking nearby in the market square in Thirsk.

A small, friendly cafe in the centre of Thirsk, serving breakfast and a range of salads, sandwiches, light bites and cakes. I’ve visited a couple of times and found the coffee to be superb whilst my friend enjoyed the decaf tea (Yorkshire Tea, I think). On one occasion, my young granddaughter and friend tucked into a homemade scone each which, judging by the few crumbs left on their plates, they liked! The food and drinks are definitely worthy of top marks but, unfortunately, the cafe is tight on space and, on this last occasion, we kept getting knocked as customers and staff pushed past our table. Also, the chairs are not especially comfortable (no cushion on the seat) and I wouldn’t want to sit for too long (okay for a drink and sweet treat, though!). A shame really, as the food looked delicious and there’s a nice atmosphere.

A small but amazing cafe. First time we walked in was busy , so no tables left, but after 10-15’ we managed to find a table. Friendly staff, nice food , ok prices . Because it’s small, during busy times, people squeeze past you, so you may not have enough space to sit comfortably . Overall a good 4-4.5 out of 5☺️

We called in for a coffee at around 11am and were so impressed with the service and menu that we called in again for lunch at 1pm! A Great little cafe with a varied menu and great selection of hot and cold drinks including local beers and ciders. The food was excellent as was the service. Quite a small cafe so getting a table could be a problem during the busy season. Happy to recommend and would certainly call again if in the area.

Ordered garlic mushrooms on sourdough from the specials menu. Initial impression looked good until realising that 60% of the topping was actually creamy onions which weren't even mentioned on the menu. Spoilt meal completely. Second food order was a very uninspiring sausage sandwich. Politely mentioned these details to mature counter assistant. Did not seem to care. No apology whatsoever. On the plus side, the young lady who served us was very pleasant and the coffee was excellent, albeit expensive. There are nicer cafes in Thirsk.

We were staying in Thirsk for a few days a couple of weeks ago and decided to come here on the Sunday morning for breakfast. There was such a choice written on the blackboard. In the end I had Egg Royale which was the best I had ever tasted and my husband had the Full Veggie breakfast which he thoroughly enjoyed. We had a pot of Yorkshire tea each to accompany our breakfast. The cafe was busy but we didn't have to wait long to be served. The staff were very friendly and efficient. There was a lovely homely feel to the place. We would thoroughly recommend coming here if you are in Thirsk.

So I'd already been here before for the cake and coffee. This time we tried lunch and I've got to say that it was probably the best quiche we've all had in our lives! It was exceptional. The perfect taste, texture and portion size with a great side serving of salad. Just managed to squeeze in a huge slice of carrot cake which once again was to die for. This place can't be beaten on quality food and pleasant service.

I wouldn't have bothered to write a review if I hadn't read the rude replies from the "owner" Matthew to other reviews. We arrived as a party of 5 yesterday and waited to be seated as requested by the sign. A member of staff said there were no tables for 5 so we said we would happily split between 2 tables for 4. She said they couldn't "use up" a table for 4 with only 2 people on it. 2 of us had to sit outside. During the course of our meal, we noticed several other tables only occupied by 2 people so were fed up about that. It took ages for the food to come and it was distinctly average with more onion than cheese on the toasties I had. The English breakfast was advertised as having 2 sausages, but it turned out to be one sausage cut in half lengthways! The message on the menu saying they would charge you £1.50 if you wanted to share a bowl of chips just added to the overall impression of a cafe trying to make as much money as they could out of you. When we paid, they seemed only capable of charging 2 separate bills for our group but even managed to mix those up with no offer to sort it out. In short, the food was expensive and average. The overall impression was that it is all about the money and not much customer focus. Go ahead with your response Matthew, I won't be reading it.

Approached the cafe and door way blocked by a ‘wait to be seated’ sign, fair do’s only one table being used inside and one outside, I caught the eye of the staff who were busy chatting and she looked away! Totally astonished this morning when visiting this tearoom to be charged £12.55 for 2 coffees and 1 fruit scone!! When I returned to the counter to query the price I was told that I was charged £1.50 extra as I had asked for another plate so that I could share the scone with my sister. I have never ever in any establishment been asked to pay extra for another plate!! Needless to say I asked for the amount to be refunded onto my card but to my dismay this has not been done. Apparently this ridiculous rule had been put on the menu but as I wasn't offered a menu, how would I have known this fact. I was meant to feel this was my fault and no apology was offered.

Having visited this cafe before and had a good experience I wanted to take my daughter for lunch. She was visiting from Manchester and staying with me for a few days. We arrived at the cafe to find a couple just leaving a table. They signalled to us they were leaving so we took our seats passing a comment that was perfect timing. Just then (who I presumed was the owner) came over to us saying in a very rude manner’ let me clear the table first! ‘ We were shocked that she spoke to us in that way like we were a massive inconvenience. We then decided to take our business else where. I will never visit the cafe again because of the rudeness and unwelcome we were shown. My advice to them is get a sign before you enter saying please wait here to be seated if they can’t handle the pressure of a busy lunchtime . We did however have wonderful fish and chips at the white horse cafe followed by ice cream yummy.

Best cappuccino in town! (recommend you take some coffee beans home). Delicious breakfast and good veggie options. If you’re stopping in Thirsk, stop here first

Gorgeous little spot and great local cheese and tea and scones and chutney. Friendly staff too, who chatted with us for a while. They gave us free apples as well.

A cut above your normal Sunday pub lunch. Excellent presentation and really tasty. Not the normal boiled veg. Very good.

What a little gem of a cafe. Breakfast service is personal and welcoming. The menu was taylored to my choice and so tasty. Yet to enjoy the evening menu but it always looks so warm and welcome when I drive by in an evening.

These are absolutely great fish and chips as the large amount of people waiting inside and outside will tell you. It is well worth the wait as the food is spot on - lovely crispy batter and delicious chips. The prices are reasonable and the staff very efficient.
