We stopped here on a Saturday night on the off-chance after seeing their A board outside advertising their Greek night. They had sold out of a few dishes already, so the Greek menu is obviously popular. We both really enjoyed our food and drink, and it was great to find somewhere that serves something different to standard pub grub.

We had steak and kidney puds with chips a thick and tasty gravy, it was delicious. Service was fantastic, place is amazing, a feast for the eyes. Sadly my partners dessert was awful, the ginger sponge was delicious....but the custard was terrible, it looked like it was made with water, it was clear with lumps in it, like the power hadn't dissolved, when we were table checked, we told them about the custard, she apologised, took it away and said she would bring a fresh one, she returned with a fresh one and the custard was the same, we payed the bill and took the untouched pud back inside, put it on the bar, explained why it was untouched, and left, I was surprised we weren't offered a refund for the pud. It won't stop us going again as we everything else was fantastic.

The Yew Tree Pub is very tired and dated looking pub, inside and out, and would do better to have a complete overhaul on its interior. It sits prominently on the main road through Hayling Island, and can therefore attract a lot of passing trade, however we will never go back - as the place is just very tired, unclean and grim on the inside. The food is at best, average English fair ~ lacking style, panache or flavour - we had the Sunday Lunch, which was stuffed chicken (breast stuffed with a sausage and paxo!) ~ the food came out relatively quickly, and it was hot and plentiful - the staff were working hard dealing with the many customers, so clearly I guess their philosophy is ‘if it ain’t broke’ type of approach. But looking around, it is really filthy dirty inside - there is dust everywhere, on every one of the hundreds of trinkets and artefacts adorning every wall.. Including a quite large collection of Victorian chamber pots hanging from hooks. It’s a little disconcerting to think that these toilet implements are hanging where people sit to eat. It’s just a little off-putting. I’m sure that if the owners decided to spend some money overhauling the interior, improving the quality of the food, and cleaning the interior, it would be a winner through and through, even the single card menus were really old and grotty ~ covered in a plastic film. You always know when a place has low standards when your elbows stick to the table, and you sink back in to the very old and tasteless cushions. But it does have potential, because there is certainly the team energy working hard here, and the clientele to support it. But we will never return unfortunately, and I’m sure it has missed a lot of repeat visitors as it is a real turn-off when a place is really grotty inside - gloomy, filthy and dated.

Visit the yew tree while on holiday at hayling island and loved it so much we ate there every day. Super dog friendly, choice of real ale for my husband and the food was amazing , even had veggie pies for myself and bacon and onion pudding one of my husbands favourites with tons of fresh veg, really superb thank you. The interior of the pub is stuffed full of everything from grandfather clocks to chamber pots , it’s like a museum of our past and we enjoyed having a good look at all the items and some of them bought back lovely memories of our childhood. Loved visiting the bird avery in the garden too. Highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again, please don’t change a thing xxx

My father lives on the island for many years, he and his neighbour drive from West Town most Sundays to eat here, the food has always been good with pleasant service. I visit my father from London every few weeks and this also includes the Sunday lunch visit here. My father has a very tiny dog who accompanies them on every visit. Today our experience was very different, after our food I was playing with dog on the floor and beckoned him onto my lap, a staff member passing abruptly stated no dogs at the tables, I thought fair enough, but on looking round noted another table with a poodle sitting on a chair next to its owner, the member of staff ignored this. We had finished eating and were considering desert and more drinks. I moved my chair 2ft away from the table next to a fire place and the small dog then sat on my lap quietly. The same member of staff came rushing over and very rudely stated she had told me no dogs at the table I apologised and stated I had purposely moved away from the table she continued to try to engage in an argument with me, at which point I stated I would not be drawn into an argument paid our bill and left. Never to return. My father and his neighbour were appalled by the attitude and rudeness shown towards me. They will also never return and will make their friends aware of this unpleasant incident. I was spoken to like a naughty child, disrespected and embarrassed.

We were delighted with the outcome and will definitely go back. We were welcomed by friendly staff and although we arrived earlier than we had booked, that was not a problem. The menu was varied and we were both spoilt for choice. Once we had ordered, we did not have to wait very long for our meals to arrive, which were piping hot- always a bonus for me. We were both impressed by the quality of the food and the service we received. We will definitely return.

We were served promptly at the bar and our food arrived in a sensible timeframe. We sat outside and tried to move tables. In the process, my dad collapsed. The staff (and other customers) were all incredible, coming to our aid. They bent over backwards to help, making sure that my dad was looked after and safe. The food was great, although my dad felt too unwell to eat, bless him. Well done to everyone at the Yew Tree for being so helpful and thoughtful. Terrible food, drink, service and atmosphere.Ordered Sunday lunch, took 40 mins to arrive ( we were told up to 30 mins upon ordering) and was eventually plonked on our table without cutlery or any mention of the fact we’d need to go to the bar (from the garden) to pick this up ourselves. The food was as basic as you can get, with beef slices just a few mm thick (think sandwich slices), supermarket roasties, and instant gravy. Didnt try the veg it looked so unappealing. No yorkshire pud or anything extra. I would have been sad to pay £5, however this was an extortionate £11.Also ordered a coffee at the bar, and was told I could go back to the table to wait for it. 25 mins later it came out. Small cup as if it was a filter coffee, but this was basic instant coffee. Very disappointing. Now I know why the nearby Maypole pub was fully booked, and this was freely available! Avoid at all cost.

Have been talking about trying the Yew Tree for Sunday roast for some time as the pub always looks busy so would assume the food was good. Big mistake. Having arrived early evening around 6pm the list of food unavailable was very long and there was only one roast dinner option, expected possibly due to the weather being nice and the fact that it's holiday season, however when we came to order we were told that what we had chosen was also not available, tried another option, again unavailable. Decided on two lamb roast dinners and were told there would be about a 30 minute wait. Totally okay for what we thought would be a nice roast dinner, however 30 minutes later the roast arrived. Tinned or possibly frozen veg microwaved, peas, carrots and green beans. Lamb you could not see on the plate for the thick stodgy gravy covering it. Very thin slices. The only time I have seen 'meat' like this is from microwave dinners/ packets of frozen meat and deep fried potatoes (yes deep fried), with no Yorkshire pudding. At the price they are charging it's attractive to holiday makers as it is slightly less expensive than some other local pubs, however what they are serving falls way below standard Sunday roasts so does not really warrant the £11 price tag

Worst ‘roast’ dinner ever.Popped in to the Yew Tree after a day at the beach. Really fancied a roast dinner and the pub looked nice. I’d much prefer to eat at an ‘independent’ as opposed to a Wetherspoons and the like so thought I’d give it a go.Firstly, I was unimpressed by the COVID measures. Or lack thereof. Was asked to sign a track and trace Register, with no sign that the pen was disinfected between users.Very few signs to encourage patrons to socially distance and no one sticking to the one way system, but I digress. Was handed a laminated menu, which again, I question whether it was sanitised.Saw a roast was on the menu for £10 so I was happy. My son, who wasn’t starving asked for a bowl of spaghetti. Seeing spaghetti bolognaise on the menu, I said ‘no problem’ Went to the bar to order. Was told the roast was pork... no choice on other meat but ok, hadn’t had pork for a while so why not! Asked for a bowl of plain spaghetti, no bolognaise, only to be told ‘oh, we can’t do that’ which obviously made me wonder how things were prepared if you can’t separate a bowl of spaghetti from a dollop of bologanaise!!! Food came out after about 10 mins (more alarm bells) and I was devastated. The meat was drowned in glutenous gravy. Lots of meat yes, but covered in a flavourless gravy. Disappointing. ‘Roast’ potatoes. Had not been roasted but fried in the deep fat fryer. Yuk.Tinned peas... grey and cooked to death, with no flavour. Carrots. Unpeeled and boiled within an inch of mush. Cabbage. Cooked fine but no flavour. Stuffing ball... just paxo and water. No actual sausage meat. I love a roast dinner and was utterly shocked by this. Truly awful. Left without eating most of it. Have come home and cooked myself something edible. Which I should have done in the first place and saved the money.Beautiful pub with great character but utterly utterly let down by their Sunday ‘roast’ Won’t be going back. Not even for a drink.

The Yew Tree was a place I loved going to as a child so I was looking forward to going back with my own child and partner. We weren't sure if we needed to book, so took the risk and turned up. Most restaurants at the moment are explaining the processes and any changes they've made due to COVID, however there wasn't any of that when we walked in. We were just told to find a table. I was a little shocked when I asked for a highchair to be told they didn't have them. We have a 2 year old that had to sit on an adult chair, but could easily get out of the chair and kept climbing up onto the table making it quite stressful for us as parents. It wouldn't have been as bad if the kids park was open, but it was sectioned off, which confused me a little seeing as all the parks are now open. The food itself was nice, but I wouldn't come back here with my toddler again.

Not much to say about it except we're very unlikely to return. Dark and dingy surroundings, dirty tables and two large dogs, one of which we were warned was very nervous and to approach with caution, lying in front of the menu boards. Further put off by the pub only taking cash with a limp explanation that the card machine signal was poor on the island. Strange that everywhere else we went accepted our debit cards without problems. The food, a salad, a lamb shank and a minced beef pie just acceptable but nothing we could say was worth going back for or recommending to others. Would have given it 2* but the extra was for the pleasant waitresses.

Life saver as when we visited a local Tapas bar on a Sunday evening after booking we were informed that meal service is not on Sundays, tried the Barley Mow but kitchen was closed. The Maypole was closed so in desperation tried the Yew Tree circa 20.30 to find the restaurant served till 21.00, what a relief. The whole pub is adorned with old antiquated amusing items and the food was very good. Thank you as this was a lovely end to the evening.

Lovely little pub only had sandwiches but we went there 2 days running as it was nice sitting in the shade in the garden. My only criticism is they only take cash, no credit or debit cards for some reason.

Approached this pub but had to turn away as there was a sign on the door saying they don't accept debit or credit cards. I find it amazing that a hospitality business operating in 2019 expects people to still carry enough cash to be able to pay for drinks and meals for the evening. Investing in a card machine would result in an influx of customers for this backward thinking establishment.

this is an ok pub that's serves good wholesome food with very little style and a take it or leave it attitude, they only take cash, you have to order and pay for your food at the bar. 4 main courses were ordered and two were rated good and two were rated ok, the roast pork and the game pie were good, the two lamb chop dinners were ok with the chops being rated as a bit tough and chewy, two spotted dicks were ok .the roast potatoes were excellent

Have been to this pub many times while visiting relatives on Hayling. Great traditional pub with good traditional food. Do not expect anything posh and you will be fine. Good value for money, the food always tastes great and there is a good menu to please every one's different taste's even vegetarians.

The Yew Tree is a lovely quaint pub /restaurant. The menu is huge and is written on a board. No menus on the tables so you have to stand up and decide what you are going to have. My meal was good and the size of it, large. You definitely won't leave hungry. Prices are average. The main downside is no credit cards, cash only.

We went back to this pub after 15 years and found the food was good but the tables were still sticky, and many bulbs were needing replacing in the lamps, with so many ornaments on shelves and it being quite dark in places it looks like the place could do with a good spring clean, there was too much to choose from on the menu, it could be made much simpler, but the food was ok.

The pub is nicely situated & looks very inviting from the outside, your stereotypical ‘country pub’. A large car park & garden at the rear with some animals at the back of the garden, pigs & birds from what I saw. Upon entering the pub it was clear that cleanliness wasn’t high on the list of priorities, the place is need of some major renovation, the toilets were horrible, very smelly, not somewhere you would want to visit pre dinner. We had booked. Not necessary, there were plenty of free tables. Dinner is ordered & paid for in advance. Be warned CASH ONLY . They do not accept credit or debit cards, very odd in this day & age. I ordered the sirloin steak & my partner the chicken korma, there’s. nothing flash on the menu, just what appears to be good, home cooked familiar dishes. My partners korma arrived, it was not korma, it tasted like a very poor attempt at homemade either that or sweet & sour sauce which had added coconut milk, we weren’t sure, asked but couldn’t get a clear answer. The steak was standard pub grub, 8oz, chips, peas, mushroom, tomato etc, it was however cooked perfectly, otherwise I would have given a 1 star review. We ordered sweets, bread & butter pudding & syrup sponge, these were just about ok but had clearly been microwaved to with an inch of their life possibly with the custard at the same time as this was bubbling on the plate as it arrived. On a rather negative note my partner was very ill later that evening and has put it down to the korma and given the state of the pub’s front of house I can only wonder what back of house is like. Go have a beer in the lovely garden, avoid the food.

7 people and 2 border collies. We had lovely meal in the garden with lots of space around us. Children blissfully happy in the play area and watching the pigs etc. No hurry, served hot fresh food - not gourmet but family food for everyone. We had to pool our resources as cash only but would recommend a visit, whatever the weather.

Looks lovely pub....great beer garden. Food crap! Had burger and it was literally a think burger in a plan roll (no butter or salad garnish) and a slice of processed cheese. Mac cheese was awful...processed sauce! Didn't eat it and would not go back. Its a shame because it looks so promising from the outside.

Stopped off with a friend on leaving Hayling island. Presentable enough and very cosy inside. Surprised by the "cash only" sign as many people only use cards these days. Ordered 2 cheese ploughmans but got 1 cheese and 1 ham. Generous enough but the food was fairly average. Price was fair. No menus available on tables so had to choose via the large chalk board on the wall. Ladies toilets were very small and the available soap was well in need of changing.

Having eaten here last October and had a reasonable meal, I had no hesitation on paying a return visit. However of our 2 meals one was totally inedible. The lasagne had obviously been reheated and was rock hard. My Haddock and Chips was perfectly acceptable. A near bye diner complained that her chicken was 'cold in some places and hot in others'. We both received a refund with no quibbling.

I just had another fantastic 3 course meal from their Christmas menu this evening with a group of friends. Just the best service, the food was delicious and plentiful so much so I've booked to go again before Christmas on 15 Dec with another group of friends. An unsuspecting gem of a good food pub from the outside not to be missed if you are ever in Emsworth.

We had a lovely weekend stay at the Brookfield hotel. We had a function on the Saturday night which was a 7 course meal and I have to say I was blown away with the service and the reassurance of my gluten free options, I could literally have exactly the same dishes as everyone else with just a couple of tweaks I couldn’t believe it! A lovely gentleman served me who I think was a manager (I am so sorry I cannot remember his name) which made me feel so looked after as it can be daunting eating out somewhere new! All staff were helpful and made the evening run smoothly it was very professional! The room was basic but clean and had everything we needed, the only thing I would say is more plug sockets but that’s not the end of the world! Also it was a bit expensive for room service as a sausage and bacon sandwich ended up being £13.45 including tray service but again with inflation maybe that’s why it was that much! Apart from that there was plenty of parking at a small charge and the hotel was easy to get around. Thank you for looking after us, it was the best meal I’ve had as a coeliac plus the most I’ve ever been able to eat!

This may have once been a good restaurant but it no longer is. The food was at best average and at worst inedible. Whilst the food was cooked reasonably well (gastro pub standard) the seasoning made three of our four dishes inedible. A tip for the chef: if you can taste salt, you’ve over-seasoned. If your mouth dries from the salt, you’ve failed entirely. For the cost of the meal, it is reasonable to expect a chef who can cook - seasoning and all - to a very high standard. This failed to reach that bar at any time. I’ve paid much, much less and eaten far, far better many times before. Avoid.
