Alright pub. Bartender was completely clueless about his beer and it’s quite expensive. Wouldn’t recommend

Expensive with a poor selection of drinks. Handy due to it being between the train station and the city centre. Probably won't go again.

Funniest pub experience I've ever had. Not a single woman in the pub - packed with dudes - which is fine! But just very funny. Every sign for an Aperol Spritz had spelled Spritz differently - also fine, but still very funny! We sat outside and played cards with the strangest mojitos I've ever had. Probably would visit again, feel half tempted to write a sitcom about it - and I would, too, if I knew how.

Not enjoyable for me, visited here for a curry and drinks with friends. The service from staff was amazing, however the sit down tables where you eat at the back were too small, we were crammed in with a bunch of overly loud men (who resembled the sound of cavemen chanting). I won’t be visiting again in a hurry, please give the larger louts and sit down food separate if possible

Quite an old pub which seems quite traditional until you discover it's also an Indian restaurant. Pleasant staff. Comfortable.

Vinimos aquí la semana pasada a tomar unas copas antes de ir a comer curry... Pero cuando vimos el menú de comida decidimos quedarnos, y no nos decepcionó! Una muy buena gama de platos de curry disponibles, e incluso había un trato muy razonable con una pinta! A todos les encantó su comida, tuve unas madras de cordero y fue excelente! Sabores muy sabrosos, encantadores, una buena temperatura, y el cordero estaba muy tierno. ¡Nos quedamos hasta que cerró! El personal era muy amable y atento, y claramente realmente se preocupó por la comida que proporcionaron. ¡Gracias por una hermosa víspera! ¿Lo recomendaría? ¡Definitivamente! ¿Volvería otra vez? ¡Definitivamente!

On a rainy evening, upon returning to Bristol, I stumbled upon this pub, which had a sign at the entrance, stating that it is the second oldest in the city after Hatchett Inn. Inside, there is no atmosphere of anything historical at all – it feels like stepping into just another neighborhood pub, build some time ago, nothing more. The food menu features a large selection of Indian food, which is generally quite good (the pub is owned by a family from India, as I understand). Regarding the service – the staff is ready to bring a new pint or take your order at the first wave of your hand, with a card reader at the ready. However, if you don’t have a card in hand or your eyes show no desire to order something else, they immediately lose interest in you, and there are also notes of rudeness and impoliteness in the service. In conclusion – it's an ordinary neighborhood pub, lacking atmosphere and any special features.

Wouldn’t recommend! Came here expecting a good curry come out disappointed and what I can only describe as curry from a can save your money and go to a proper curry house will not be returning ever again.

Llamamos aquí por casualidad mientras visitaba a la familia en Bristol. Nos dieron la bienvenida en el bar y nos mostraron una mesa ya que estábamos buscando para tener una comida, así como una bebida. El personal no podía hacer lo suficiente por nosotros y nos mantuvo riendo con su charla mientras tomaban nuestro pedido y traían nuestras bebidas. En general nos trataron como invitados especiales y todos disfrutamos mucho de nuestras comidas. Hay un gran menú para todos los gustos y el personal es profesional y entusiasta. Una visita muy positiva que merece una buena crítica. Vale la pena intentarlo si estás en la zona. Sin duda volveremos.

¡Una joyita de un lugar en Bristol! Viajamos a Bristol cada pocos meses durante un fin de semana, hemos estado en muchos bares de la zona, pero encontramos que este es el mejor. Buena comida -si te gustan tanto los platos británicos como los indios- recomiendo totalmente ambos : ) Servicio amable con una sonrisa y charla. Además en la última visita, mi hijo perdió su pasaporte y cartera, el bar lo encontró y nos lo devolvió en la entrega registrada! Gracias!

Este pub aparentemente tiene un montón de historia y desde el exterior se tiene una idea de esto, pero una vez dentro podría estar en cualquier lugar. Es una lástima que no se haya conservado ninguna de las características antiguas ni se haya mostrado ningún material de lectura obvio en el fondo. De lo contrario, es un pub lo suficientemente decente con algunos empleados de bar muy amables. Hay otra sección en la parte trasera del edificio, así que si parece ocupado cuando entras persevera, ya que es un buen lugar para tomar una copa.

This pub apparently has loads of history and from the outside you get a sense of this, but once inside you could be anywhere. It’s a shame none of the old features have been preserved or any obvious reading material on the background displayed. Otherwise it’s a decent enough pub with some really friendly bar staff. There’s a whole other section at the rear of the building, so if it looks busy when you enter persevere, as it’s a nice place for a drink.

Best chicken korma and saag paneer I've had in years! The staff were very kind and helpful. A really lovely place.

The vegan breakfast is the same as the regular breakfast without egg, bacon and black pudding yet costs more. How can this be? Surely the extra cost of the vegan sausage is less than the cost of egg, 2 bacon and black pudding? It feels like vegans are being ripped off as usual.

Celebrated a friends birthday and our Anniversary here, can't fault anything, lovely friendly barstaff nothing to much trouble for them, food was absolutely delicious, give them a try you won't be disappointed.

Popped into the ‘Ye Shakespeare’ for a drink before a gig mainly because I had been a barman there 44 years ago and I wanted to see how much it had changed. Staff were very friendly. Beer was excellent- well looked after (Bath Ales - Gem). We weren’t stopping to eat but the menu looked extremely good. All sorts of Indian dishes that I had not seen before. Looked really authentic. If you want to watch TV sport and enjoy a good Indian meal there may not be a better place in Bristol. The ‘Pint and a starter’ deal looked really good if you only want a snack. I will be back!!!

Well, is it an old pub? Yippee. Do you buy beer there? You buy. Does it have atmosphere? It doesn't have. The pub is run by management from India, offers fine food, but the place suffers from being a cross between a pub and an Indian diner.

The oldest pub in Bristol with Indian food :o) And it's called Ye Shakespeare. Interesting combination! I'm not a beer drinker so I won't say anything about the beer, but the Pino Grigio was well chilled and the food was good. It could be crispier and less chewy. Very friendly service, taking care of customers' comfort.

Rather impersonal, I was looking for a pub experience, it was okay.

Went here for a drink a couple of years ago, beer selection was poor with no local ales, and what i did drink tasted poor. I went again yesterday for a pint and although the range has improved a little with a bath ales gem on tap, there weren't any other local beers on tap. Food selection looked good. I had the beavertown neck oil and although it tasted crisp, it had a weird back taste. I reported this to the staff who were very quick to provide a reason and told me it was a new barrel but didnt offer anything else. So i left the remaining beer and went. Totally not worth it for an overpriced £6 beer. Why are they charging so much for a mass produced beer?, they arent special beers or an ale specialist so i can only conclude they are cashing in on transient workers and tourists passing to the station. Considering this is a heritage pub it doesn't have the quality or range it deserves. I didnt go back for a couple of years and although gave it a second chance, i was reminded why. Go next door to the Kings head instead.

The food here was excellent !.. the service from the staff was above and beyond and attentive, they were so friendly and helpful, wonderful service and experience, there’s several seating areas including some out the front, I would definitely recommended a visit !

Tipical britsh pub, good beers selection and ambience, we didnt tried the food, but beer and cider was good.

Watched the England Switzerland game here. Found us a table plenty of tvs. Excellent table service both food and drinks felt like they treated everyone was vips.

Lively pub, glad to have somewhere to drink late on a Friday while waiting for a train. Cider selection wasn't great but the staff were friendly and there was sport on the big screens.

What a lovely gem! Popped in for a quick drink on Tuesday early evening not realising it offered Indian cuisine. Booked a table for Wednesday night. What a lovely meal. My wife had chicken korma and I had prawn biryani, absolutely lovely. The “gem” beer was one of the best bitters I’ve tasted and I’ve been a beer drinker for many many years. I would thoroughly recommend this venue for good beer and excellent Indian food. We wished we lived nearer to experience this lovely food.

Decent pub. Cool old building. Claiming to be the oldest pub in Bristol, dating back to 1636. Good pints at around £5.50. Decent Guinness and Ice Cold Heineken. Food looked and smelt great. Seating indoors and out front. Live Sport available. Friendly atmosphere. Bar staff were great. Would recommend a stop.

Staff were really friendly and welcoming the second we stepped through the door. It's worth a visit just for that. Be warned, though - brace yourself for Dad jokes a plenty 😉

Sri and the staff are very friendly, efficient, & eager to please. The beer & food is good quality. The cellar is obviously well kept. Decent boozer, bit pricey but it is city centre Bristol.

Awful place. Pre cooked lunch,heated up suspiciously quickly,a fruit juice which was way gone to the point of disgusting from a carton not in a cooler or fridge. Dodgy,dodgy,dodgy.

Bath ale the only offering of worth. Cheery barmaid, lacks atmosphere head to other pubs nearby as this lacks soul. Cornubia is much better.....

Went in last night 6/3/2024 for a pint and curry , they put the football on for us in back room and all i can say is Brilliant.food was amazing so was service and price if we are ever in Bristol again we will be back.

I stopped here for lunch today after hearing good things about their Indian food menu. I ordered a chicken chattinad, lamb vindaloo with a saag paneer side and a pilau rice washed down with a pint of Inch's Cider. The food was really tasty.....as good, if not better, than food I've eaten at Indian restaurants in Bristol. The team on duty were all super friendly and helpful and gave excellent recommendations on the menu choices. As well as being super tasty, the food was also very reasonably priced. So if you're looking for really authentic tasting Indian curries in a pub environment, then head down to Ye Shakespeare.....you won't be disappointed!

Been there recently, Enjoyed yummy food, and atmosphere. I loved their chilli Paneer.

In Bristol on business trip, popped in for a Guinness (my hotel next door only sells cans 😭) to be honestly fair the Guinness was absolutely spot on (i know my Guinness) to top it off they also serve Indian/Pakistani food, well i unfortunately only tried the vegetable samosas however they were very good/tasty, the staff are extremely attentive for a pub (IMO) so a positive review it is from me... 👍👍

It was absolutely amazing. The bar tender was super kind, we had a lot of stuff, pram and everything and he did everything to accommodate us and make us feel welcomed and comfortable. He even gave our dog some pork bites to join our lunch! 100% recommend!!

Absolutely amazing service and food! Recently moved to the area and have visited twice now. First time we arrived the staff were so friendly and the food was amazing. Second time we came for a valentines meal and an absolutely amazing experience again, very quick service and very great care given. Will be back many more times, lovely staff, amazing food and really friendly vibe.

Staff were so friendly, food was very tasty. Please go and try it out! Drinks were pricey but it is central bristol. Only thing that bugged me is they don't know how to pour a pint of Guinness. Overall though I'd go back and eat for sure.

Walked in by chance, with luggage after a flight and was helped into a booth by the super friendly bartender. Took him up on his offer of a pint and a curry for £12.50. Great food, beer and service.

Attentive bar staff who offered us table service whilst we watched the football game on a massive TV. This is the new home of AS Roma Bristol fan club. They are a great mix of people and really friendly. We didn't eat this time but the menu did look amazing.

Cosy? From the name of the pub I was hoping for something old fashioned. Nope, Theyve tried to modernise it on the cheap, resulting in a soulless place. Best go next door to the King's head. Barman was really nice though.

Whilst visiting the historical site of the Templars Church, we found another bit of Bristol history at Ye Shakespear nearby. First visit we sat outside in the warm October sun enjoying an excellent pint of Gem ale from Bath brewery. Second visit a week later, a cosy pint inside chatting with the cheerful helpful bar staff. Must sample the menu next visit.

Watched the England Fiji '23 match here. Great bar for watching sports, good food and drink. Service was lovely, owner very friendly and happy to help. We had a 4 month old with us and the owner was attentive and offered to heat up milk etc. Highly recommended

Lovely little pub. Went in quiet late in the evening. Rugby was on the telly, nice atmosphere. Barman was really nice. Great service. Just had a drink, so I can't comment on food.

Questa sera, al ritorno da Bath dopo una cena da dimenticare, ci siamo fermati qui per prendere una birra nell'attesa che smettesse di piovere. Il ragazzo indiano al banco è stato abbastanza gentile. La mia Guinness gelata andava giù come l'acqua perché era molto fredda come piace a me, ma di base era una normalissima Guinness che, come è ovvio che sia, è uguale dappertutto. I prezzi delle birre mi sono sembrati elevati, poco meno di sette sterline l'una. Ma sono appena arrivato nel Regno Unito da dove manco da un po', e quindi non sono proprio aggiornato sui prezzi.

Really friendly staff and great atmosphere. When we were there the kitchen was closed but they had crisps and nuts on the bar for people to help themselves to for free which was very appreciated! There was table service too! Thank you so much for taking care of my sunglasses!

When we write good reviews it's thumbs 👍. A poor review is met with hostile words putting blame on us as if we're the problem. Smells heavily of tobacco inside. Didn't even bother to read the menu . Would rather consume a Tesco sandwich than deal with smoke

Walked in smelled vast qty. Of Smoke then walked out. Response sent to us was so lame were it a horse we would have to shoot it for being lame. Now we know why the place was devoid of customers. Offence is fully intended. Please avoid this place as if the plague were here.
