Treated my family to the Wellington's festive Christmas menu this year and was blown away by the service and delicious set menu. Emma, our hostess, was wonderfully attentive and very welcoming. Even though we were the only family enjoying the festive menu that evening, Emma and team went above and beyond to decorate our table so beautifully and even included gorgeous Christmas crackers!! Would highly recommend the Wellington for dinner or lunch, the food is consistently good and service outstanding. Thank you again guys for a truly memorable evening and we'll be back next year for sure!! xx

Owen helped us get seated (after our booking was ‘lost’) - but the food was great - a mixture of ribs, burgers, steaks - all good, especially the mash potatoes! The flat iron steak was pretty big! Owen was showing off his great memory for the drinks order! And Ella was very attentive at service at our table. Look forward to coming again soon!

I stayed in a hotel in town last time I visited and found it a bit of a sketchy area, so decided to try something a bit out of the main city… so glad I did! The car parking was a bit tricky (it’s small and I have a giant car) and it’s quite limited, but I arrived at 5 and got a space so I was happy… the staff are super lovely and gave me the tour on arrival, and brought me to my room. The room was a little chilly, and they gave me a space heater which was perfect and took the edge off! The bedroom itself is very spacious, clean and tidy, and the bathroom is lovely! I particularly enjoyed the rainfall shower! If I was being super super picky I might suggest steam cleaning the grout in the shower cubicle, but it looks no worse than my own shower at home, so I can’t complain. Overall i would give a 10/10 and look forward to coming back!

I took my youngest son here the day before a league football game as an added treat for his hard work dedication and determination throughout this year and we weren’t disappointed unfortunately the weather specifically storm Darragh had other plans for us….game cancelled couldn’t return home as bridges were closed then other routes and major roads and risking driving through smaller roads with flooding and trees falling would have been stupid and dangerous The staff at front of house especially Ava who I really must mention and thank were so fantastic and not only managed to help us stay an extra night when they were extremely busy but also did things for us that aren’t in her job description 🫶👍 The place is adorable and historic and cater to all…food was great, service too the only one thing was an attitude on one specific kitchen staff were I suggest it stays in the kitchen especially with that mouth in front of children and attitude but regardless of this one thing I really could not fault this place and everything about it Hopefully when the match is rescheduled we can return

Well I went out for a my Dad and Nans birthday to have a nice lunch. This was ruined by finding Bone in my De boned Turkey Roast dinner so I removed to bone I bit into and showed a member of staff Emma or Em as the manager calls her. I explained that I found some bone to be told it wasn't and it was Turkey skin and she was very abrupt in how she told me and then doubled down with oh the Chef said its not bone it was definitely skin. No offer to change my meat or be asked if I'd like to change my meal. She didn't ask if I was OK just rolled her eyes at me and the thought I couldn't hear her Bitching about me to another member of staff who was actually Great at her job. So I was completely put off my meal and asked for my roast to be refunded by the Nice staff member. I was offered a change but after the way my complaint was dealt with by Emma I was not hungry. I would like to point out that I am TYPE ONE DIABETIC I didn't eat a meal then paid for my family bill and then Emma approached me as we are all leaving. I told her I didn't want to talk to her and then I said her customer service was terrible and you shouldn't talk to customers like she did. She then told me she wanted to interject to my points I said I wasn't interested in listening. I continually tell her not to talk to me and I walked away to be then followed by Emma for her to Gloat and be smug and aggressive and tell me I was BANNED BY THE CHEF EMMA AND HER BOSS. All because I complained about bone in my food. Apparently you can't complain as the CHEF Em and manager Owen will BAN YOU FROM THE PUB. I hope that Head office watch their CCTV As the camera never lies unlike your staff I mentioned in the review. Was it because I'm Black and disabled you happily took my money then ban me/ my whole family of 14. Hope head office will see though your crap customer service and your pathetic lies that came out of your mouth Emma and to the Chef who clearly have a chip on their shoulders. I work in hospitality. Stay away from this place if you want a decent meal and nice staff only 2 of the people who worked their were friendly and helpful and pleasant.

I was on a hunt for a destination for a reunion weekend with a friend - somewhere half way between Hertfordshire to Plymouth. I am definitely not sorry I found The Wellington. I read the mixed reviews, and wasn't sure what to expect, but honestly, we both had the BEST time. From start to finish, the staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly and professional. Nothing was too much. The room was super comfortable, and the.shower was a decent size - excellent Elemis toiletries, which was a treat! Our room included brekkie, and we both had the Breakfast Bap - which set us up for a day exploring Bristol. There are plenty of buses, but we decided to Uber our trips. It only cost about £13 to get into the City Centre. Easy Peasy. The hotel is very cosy, with great live music on a Friday night. There is a nice seating area at the rear of the pub, and a children's play area (as a parent, I know what a plus this is!). Service was spot on,and every member of staff we spoke to was an absolute gem, and clearly were working their socks off. We'd happily return - the food was excellent. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

I go here often with my family although mainly eat ad hoc. I went with my elderly parents so thought booking the restaurant would be a safe bet. Got a table no problem but that’s kind of where the benefits ended. Service was dreadful. Raised the fact we had waited so long at the point of having no starters but no apology was given - in fact the waitress said she’d been there since 10 and didn’t want to still be there and was just doing a favour. Totally fair enough that may be the case but all I was after was an apology and some service! We waited nearly an hour for the starter. We then asked for drinks - no one came for another 20 mins. Food tasted good when it did arrive - which was a good job because no one checked, but the whole haphazardness just ruined our evening. We then waited another 20 mins for plates to be taken. Once I’d paid someone came up but it was kind of too late then and whilst she said I could come back for a free drink another time that’s not really a thing many would feel comfortable asking for! I totally get sometimes restaurants are short staffed but all you need to do is communicate that not just leave people waiting. All of the others around us were also waiting a long time. Whilst I didn’t raise the points with this lady I had done with others so I wasn’t one of those people who say nothing and leave a poor review! It was just really overall a disappointing evening which should’ve been a nice occasion.

Came in here for a Sunday roast - really impressed with the whole pub , good bar , lots of tables , a sit down area with table service but also bar area to accommodate for casual dinners . Outside area with a bbq (I think because of welly fest which was on) Food was - 7/10 I’ve paid more for much less tasty roasts. 16.75 for pork belly and the pork was delicious and didn’t charge for extra gravy. Veg was decent. I’m not a potato fan but probably wasn’t the best bit on the plate. Yorkshire was very good! Mac and cheese , very tasty ! Visited for the first time for a Sunday roast with friends and was really impressed. Cheaper than most nice roasts in Bristol but still up there for taste and what you receive. We all had the pork belly which was cooked really well (although the crackling could have been improved!) and the vegetables were tasty and well cooked. The potatoes did miss the mark a little bit but it’s incredibly difficult to get them spot on, so I didn’t really mind. There’s games (such as scrabble etc) available to play which was a really fun addition to the afternoon. All in all, lovely little pub and very reasonably priced with good food, definitely would recommend.

Won’t be returning… My family recently visited on a Monday evening. We had a group of 12 us pre booked however when we arrived the table was not set up, so the member of staff pushed a few tablets together. We were handed the menu and told half of the items were missing and the wait would be 30 mins. A wait on a busy evening would be understandable however there were only 2 or 3 other small groups eating. The food eventually arrived almost an hour later, some cold, some burnt, some swimming in oil. The saving grace was the waiter who was kind and understanding, however really disappointing as we have visited frequently as a family and never had this experience before.

The staff went out of their way to make the table look special and ensure that we had a really lovely area to celebrate in (I didn't even ask them to!). The staff were super friendly throughout our stay, making us feel very welcome and on hand to help with anything should we need it. The pub itself seemed like a nice place (we had a good pub meal there on the first day), but we didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that. The rooms were so much better than we expected though. The rooms were big, the bed very comfortable, nice big windows and an air conditioning unit that actually worked (we had just come from the hottest hotel room ever in the previous location on our trip!) but the best thing was the bathroom. It was huge, and one of the best showers I've ever used at a hotel. Great pressure, great temperature, really nice complimentary toiletries. The website looks so beautiful that the reality was disappointing. Clean bedding, towels and a good bed. The corridors, doors and room were clearly in need of maintenance that needed to be renovated; peeling paint, dirty doors, stain in the wallpaper from a leak, carpet that is bulging. The Welly has been our ‘go to’ local Sunday lunch pub for many years so we booked for Father’s Day. We haven’t been for a while and found it all very disappointing. It took 20 mins for our drinks to come (after asking again). The second round also took ages. The waiting staff didn’t have a handle on what we had already ordered and it was all very slow. So slow in fact, that they ran out of time in the 1.5 hours they allow you for us to finish - no time for pudding! In fact, we didn’t even get to finish our drinks before they asked us to move off the table that we still had reserved for another 5 minutes as they needed for someone else! It was a shambles. The food was fine and it’s still a nice pub for a pint but we won’t be back for food.

The last time we ate here as a family, the Sunday lunch was great, this is why I'm giving a rating of 2 rather than 1. We ordered the veggie roast, and it came with the usual yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese and side vegetables promised on the menu. However, today was a completely different experience. We didn't get any of the sides the menu promised with all roasts (all priced at £16 incidentally) and when I asked why, I was told it was because we had ordered vegan and veggie roasts and the cauliflower cheese and yorkshire pudding are not vegan. To clarify, my roast was a brie tartlet, a cheese based meal, the logic of which seemed to elude whoever the server went to speak with about the situation. After a bit of back and forth, I was given a tiny bowl of what looked like cauliflower scraped out from last week, with a tiny bit of dry cheese on it (it really was quite horrific - although as the actual meals were so stingy my partner was hell bent on eating it). Add to this that the broader roast was v disappointing this time around, with minimal vegetables or roast potatoes. Why we didn't get the normal side of veggies I'll never know. In any case, we were told by our server (who incidentally was lovely and did understand the issue) that moving forward the restaurant had decided that although all roasts were priced the same, the veggie and vegan roast would simply remove the yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese. Whilst it's clear this would need to be the case with the vegan roast, you'd at least expect an alternative given all roasts are priced equally, but clearly this makes no sense for the veggie roast. We got the impression that the restaurant simply didn't understand the difference between vegan and veggie, and this is echoed on other reviews where people have complained that they didn't get the advertised yorkshire pudding/cheese with their veggie meal, and the reply has stated that they couldn't have it as veggie/vegans. Frankly, this is pretty ignorant given it's 2024 and perhaps anyone replying with that needs to go back to culinary school. The reality is that this pub has a reputation of catering badly to vegetarians or vegans; this is both what we heard when moving to the area and also our experience. Several years later, we heard that they'd started doing a veggie roast, and we were quite satisfied the last time we came in for one, but sadly this restaurant has reverted to type and the veggie/vegan options are significantly inferior. I'd have to recommend avoiding this place unless you are a meat eater.

I've always loved coming to the Wellington. It's a great pub, friendly and has a play area. We came for Sunday lunch and I have to say that whilst it was tasty, there were a few things that could be improved like the potatoes were a bit burnt. I felt it was very overpriced for what you got. I had roast beef and received one slice of beef! This was very disappointing. The puddings are also overpriced £8.50 for a small portion of sticky toffee pudding and one scoop of ice cream! Th see prices are on par with places like Pasture which isn't right as Pasture is a high end restaurant and this is a public house. So I think what I'm saying is provide better value for money 💰

Menu said beef (£19)) served pink, and we even commented to the very nice waitress that we chose it for that reason. This was massively overcooked and tough. Veg seemed like it was out of a freezer bag and all ready plated rather than being able to help ourselves like before. Potatoes awful texture and weren’t very roasted. We won’t be coming again or recommend it until things improve

An ok pub, pricey drinks but nice food! DO NOT GO if you want to watch the football, only has one tv with volume and not very accommodating to sports fans. Maybe should have a sports side to the pub, staff are pretty rude and grumpy behind the bar. Only positive is the food

We were looking forward to Easter Sunday lunch here but were really disappointed. Only one piece of lamb on lamb roasts and no mint sauce, no apple sauce for pork roast and small portions of everything else! They had run out of pigs in blankets as well. Didn’t bother to order desserts. If things have or are running out this should be made clear when ordering- £21 for one piece of lamb and a few other bits of veg and a yorkshire pudding is very expensive! Won’t return as plenty more nicer venues around!

Roast dinner. Used to be good here, with great portions and lots of veg. Yesterday, very different. Small, not well cooked portions of meat, one bit of each veg. Soft potatoes. Waiting staff kept backs to the room throughout. Going downhill?

Very disappointed with our Easter Sunday lunch yesterday. Ordered 3 lamb roasts and a pork roast in our party to be told when the meals arrived there was no mint or apple sauce to accompany the meals. Information that would of been appreciated when ordering as the lamb certainly wouldn’t of been ordered if we’d of known that. ONE PIECE OF LAMB on each of the lamb dinners which at a cost of £21 per meal is nothing short of shocking really. They had clearly run out as it wasn’t even a portion fit for a child. To be on a main road with several tesco express nearby I find it unbelievable that a member of staff wasn’t able to go and pick up the sauces knowing there were bookings and you were running out of these. No one took any accountability when raising the issues with the waitresses. Finally spoke to a manager at the end who wouldn’t confirm if it was the usual offering or they had in fact run out. Took the cost of one lamb dinner off of the bill, but wasn’t really the point. It ruined several members of my family’s Easter Sunday lunch. Won’t be returning for Sunday lunch which is a shame as have had a nice experience here before ordering small plates and drinks which is why we decided to try it out.

Visited the Wellington for Sunday lunch. Firstly a significant number of items were not available (all burgers, tarts). The biggest disappointment was that 3 of the party went for the lamb roast, which was £21, however the portion size was so small, if you removed the Yorkshire pudding, it filled less than half the plate. It was raised with staff, who were very friendly, but nothing was done to address the issue. It is a shame as we have used the Wellington a lot, but will not frequent in the near future. Have had a better experiences recently at both the Inn on the Green & The Beehive, in terms of both the quality & quantity.

Such a lovely welcome at this pub, we came to watch the football - would recommend calling ahead to reserve if you can as the only downside is a lot of the good tables for watching the TV were taken, which is completely understandable. We didn't realise it was dog friendly and in fact all the staff were delighted to say hello to our pup! Plus an amazing roast, so very happy. We will be back again now we know they accept dogs - possibly every weekend! 😂

Five / Five stars, beer was chilled and the food arrived relatively quickly. Despite apologetic bar staff explaining that kitchen was short staffed and I’d have to wait at least 25 minutes. GREAT, I replied. I didn’t leave work to come here quaff a pint, down a meal and get back to the office QUICKLY. Take all the time you need. Then they pulled out all the stops and I got my chicken wrap 20 mins later, BOO. As I left I remonstrated with said bar staff that I was righteously disappointed in their service standards, and wouldn’t visit the establishment again. See you next week Stu, came the reply. True enough.

Came here and ordered a beef roast, beef was lovely even though sometimes it would take a good 10 minutes to chew through a bite, and my Yorkshire pudding was filled with oil, other than that beef roast was nice. My boyfriend bought the lamb roast for £21 and after removing the fat there's was hardly any meat (shown in photo) it actually looks a lot bigger in the photo as well, was about two bites worth of lamb. There was also about one piece of cauliflower cheese on his plate. No mint sauce and hardly any gravy. Can I just also say I've come here before and it wasn't this bad.

This was a meal for three booked online some days before; we ate there after a football match nearby. The food was generally very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had three main courses and three pints of beer/cider and the total came to around £65 - so pretty good really. One small point: I would ask the chef does everyone like vinegar on their salad? Do you think there may be some people who perhaps might not like it? If so, why do you put it on without asking first? I hate vinegar yet my salad came smothered in it - the young waitresss was very apologetic and I said it was fine as I'd offloaded it onto my friend, but, you know, why ... ? Anyway, apart from that, a very nice and good value meal.

We have dinner at the wellington at least once a month and have always be happy with the food and service. Unfortunately the last time we visited we had just finished our food when one of the waiters approached us saying she had a large party coming in and she wanted the table, we said that was fine we were leaving soon anyway, she the responded saying “ no I need it now you need to move now” this seemed very strange but my husband was very nice and said that’s fine.. we then found ourselves standing at the bar with drinks in hand and two kids in tow. I have never experienced such bad customer service, and very strange behaviour!

The food was absolutly amazing. I had pork and it was presented beautifuly and was delious. My friends had steak and it was cooked to their specific requests. The service was okay, could have been a lot better as there was only one waitress, poor girl. Seems there should have been more staff especially on busy times like a friday night. Will definitely be back for the food. Hats off to the chef.

Visited Sunday 7th January for roast dinner. Service was good from the one person who was covering the eating area, but they needed more serving staff. Especially for a Sunday afternoon, it was very slow. But worse, when we arrived for our booked table, we were told no roast meals were available as they had run out of vegetables(?!) and we weren’t offered complimentary drinks or discounts or voucher for future visit. Ended up having burgers and fish and chips as only food available. Won’t be rushing back for Sunday roast

this place seemed promising but turned out for the worst. we are disgusted by the service received today, we went for a sunday roast and it wasn’t great. first of all we were sat down and had to wait a whole 15 minutes for a member of staff to approach us with a drinks order, after getting their attention. drinks were forgotten about and server continued to serve tables, all whilst looking at our table feeling as if we were being ignored. our food arrived and it wasn’t the best, the meat was dry, roast potatoes and carrots were raw with an unpleasant taste with overseasoned gravy with clumps in it. we had no checkup at all from any member or staff, we noticed they were looking at us and we felt very uncomfortable as it was clear we were being ignored. finally after finishing and server cleared our plates, we brought up the issues recieved and he simply didn’t care, and basically slamming the bill on our table. all of this without an apology from any member of staff. we are just disappointed with the service received today

Appalled at the service i received today, first of all our drinks order was forgotten about. No staff came over to us to check up on us through out our visit had to keep calling staff over as they were actively avoiding our table. after the drinks incident no staff came to our table but were seeing other tables even though it wasn’t that busy as there were 3 members of staff and only 4/5 tables seated. The food was not great, meat was really dry and had NO staff for a check up to explain what happened, only when staff came to clear plates i said about the food and all i got was staff making comments under their breath and weird looks at me which was unnecessary due to the service received. Tried to get staff to come over but would always look away. Then when we got the bill, the receipt was just chucked on the table. None of this was necessary as we just wanted our food and decent service. The whole time we was here we didn’t receive any apologies despite trying to raise the issue to staff just made out to seem like we were being difficult customers!

Came in for coffee for two, quite expensive for my tastes and I live in London, cappuccino is £3.75, nonetheless still bought it. Felt slow service, took about 15 mins, would've been okay if the coffee has been somewhat strong or hot. Very milky and weak, felt ripped off...not for me. Next time I'll get a pint!

We came for drinks as we are locals to the area - we were not attempting to do the 10 before 10 challenge at all. After 3/4 half pints my partner and I went outside for a cigarette and were accosted by an elderly lady who told us she was the owner. Despite telling us we were okay to go inside and finish our drinks she followed us inside and harassed our table, attempting to force us to leave. The friends that I was with had gotten another round while we were having a cigarette and one of the young male bartenders accused us of lying and being drunk unruly guests after only 3/4 drinks and despite the venue being packed with university students. Overall a very negative experience and I felt me and my partner were stereotyped for being effeminate while having a cigarette because the manager was quite pleasant until that point. Would not recommend when there are many more accepting pubs that offer the same special cider.

Cosy. Nice selection of drinks. Had a coffee and a bullet bourbon. Didn't eat. Shame most tables are reserved for food now, meaning less places to sit as a walk in, however I was directed to a lovely table by a roaring fire by a very nice member of the bar staff. Staff are genuinely friendly. I was even given a complimentary biscuit with my coffee.
