Fabulous staff and a great new menu

Yeah, this place is quite poor. Once, I couldn’t have a cup of tea with a breakfast, because they were out of teabags! Honestly. There is a shop opposite. There is always something missing, or not quite right. The place could do with a revamp. It looks so tired.

Unfortunately the food here is really sub par, it’s actually surprising just how bad it is given that from the outside the place looks quite nice. I had pancakes and they came with the measliest drop of maple syrup - an insultingly pathetic quantity, so I asked for more and they came back with cheap golden syrup… unforgivable. The eggs are always greasy and overdone, everything else is bland and tasteless, the pizzas come with about 20 litres of oil on top. It’s a shame this place is so, so, so far behind other brunch places/nice cafes that offer, for the same price, food that is levels above grounded. It’s nice for a coffee and meeting friends, but the food is awful and I don’t recommend. Hopefully they change it soon to bring it up to Bristol standards.

Nothing to complain about...food is delicious and service is average but still a nice restaurant to come to. Really liked the fact that dogs are welcomed.

Steve and his staff always give me a great welcome and the coffee and new menu is good. Great atmosphere where you can relax.

Come here quite regularly for brunch/lunch and I always enjoy it. The menu is quite basic, but you know what to expect and it’s all to a good standard.

Got whole order wrong!! Only 2 of us eating... asked for large breakfast received small... Only an apology was given....also ordered a panini received wrong one when asked to get what I asked for it took 25 minutes to come out so we asked for a refund because other person had finished eating while I watched.... then would only refund the panini.... very disappointed as local and we was hungry

Went for breakfast with my partner and we loved it until we saw flies in the vineger which made my partner feel sick straight away just the thought of them in there and how long they must of been in there for after all we just paid 32 pound for two breakfasts and tea and diet coke we dint expect to see flies in the vineger when I told the staff about it they asked if we wanted some more vineger no offer to reimburse us so I think there should be more steps to have the vineger covered and checked before given out in future

Received a £20 grounded gift voucher in may 24.tried to use it once at keynsham and once at brislington.it appears the new tills have yet to recognise the gift vouchers , so in my view they are obtaining money under false pretenses.not good.they must get that sorted.to be fair brislington did take voucher in part payment.

En ese local que tiene una terraza con mesas en el exterior se puede tomar una variedad de platos y desayunos prácticamente todo el día, lo cual lo hace muy singular y tie en su carta hasta patatas bravas que no se cómo serán pero... Y tiene un público muy normal y familiar. Vale la pena hacer una parada

We were staying in hotel nearby where food was not good/unavailable, so walked up to here for brunch, after previously having coffee here. Lovely place, great, friendly service, and we ordered muffins with smoked salmon, eggs, etc. which was fabulous! Tea and coffee's were really good too. Wish we could have gone in evening as well, as it's also a bar. Real little gem of a place, I understand they do Sunday roasts as well. We'll worth a visit.

I would like to give a little shout out to one of our locals. Grounded has gone through lots of staff, chefs and managers over the years: some good, some rude, food good, then terrible. However, since the new manager has taken over, it is the best it’s ever been. The staff are all lovely, the food is great and there is always a lovely buzzy atmosphere now. Their gluten free pizza is delicious, they just don’t always have the dough though. But the food is all delicious and great value for money. So glad to have a great little place on SPR.

Good staff, friendly to dogs, big menu, outdoor seating

Well, what can I say? I phoned to reserve a table for an evening dinner which was accepted happily. We arrived and wished to order the tapas as advertised on the menu only to be told that they didn't have ingredients for half of the menu. Could they not have advised us on the phone? What we did manage to order was poor, a cob salad with half the advertised ingredients missing, potatas bravas that the Spanish would have rolled in their grave over and a chicken burger that wasn't only burnt, the bun both sides was burnt as well. What chef in their right mind thinks that it's acceptable to send that out. The place is being ran on a shoe string which is a shame to see, considering it was such a nice place to go previously. Simple things such as, the the hand sanitiser being watered down and was dripping into a plate in the bathroom, the mayonnaise in Hellmens bottles clearly wasn't a Hellmen's mayo but some cheap, whiter than white knock off. Avoid like the plague. I can only hope it gets taken over soon by someone who cares.

I came here for brunch and it was such a nice experience! We ordered the panini and avocado on toast and we couldn’t fault it one bit. The food was delicious, very fast service, and the staff we so so friendly!

Waited over an hour for 2 fried breakfasts, and when they came out both were missing multiple items. Brought to attention of waitress who said she would bring the missing parts out-- 5 minutes later one of the breakfasts' missing parts were brought out with a promise that the other breakfasts' parts would be coming shortly. 20 minutes later and we have finished food with no sign of the other missing items. Went up to the till to ask for a refund or complimentary item because of the wait and missing breakfast items that never arrived, man said yes we will give you a refund and dropped three pound coins into my hand 😂 spent £27 and got three back for the shambles.. Won't be coming back.

0 for the food, had the breakfast egg overcooked, burnt toast, bacon hard as rocks basically inedible, and poor quality suasages. Staff were friendly when ordering but didn't ask how the food is. For the most expensive place for breakfast it certainly was not worth £11.25 GO ANYWHERE ELSE !! It is even cheaper after paying for a bus to go to town and go somewhere nice like Boston Tea Party and you still would get better food at a better price point and better service and atmosphere Been in the previous week and had the pancakes. For your £8 they call 3 small pancakes a stack and chop up 3 strawberries and drown the pancakes in Maple syrup. Not sure how so many have reviewed this place as 5 star it was terrible

I was served a lasagna made with tuna, which is not what I would expect, menu does not state what meat is used but does state bolognese, which is typically beef or a beef/pork mix. Therefore this location is unsafe for anyone with food restrictions. Food is otherwise good. The disabled toilet is not safe for use by disabled visitors. The emergency cord has been cut and does not reach the ground, the room is used for high chair storage, and the sink is coming away from the wall.

It always so busy, lovey place.

What a diamond in the rough. I have used both eat in and takeaway services.I have never encountered such friendly and professional service. Always a welcoming smile and a great atmosphere. The food is excellent and value for money. Nothing is ever too much trouble. I have recommended grounded to lots of friends and family. An excellent place go for breakfast, lunch,Sunday lunch, a quiz night or any another time.

A nice enough place for a bite to eat. I had a breakfast which was ok but unfortunately the bacon tasted like it was precooked and left to dry out under a heat lamp hence only 3 stars.

Food was bland and unsalted. The “vegan option” for the avocado toast was just without eggs, no substitute and was still £8.50, For two pieces of bread with a tiny bit of unseasoned avocado, and the “radish ceviche” was literally 3 slices of pickled radish that only tasted like white vinegar. Soooo disappointing. At least it came out quickly.

The food options available for those following a plant-based diet are quite limited at this establishment. Additionally, the staff was not very helpful and did not come across as very friendly. The kitchen and front-of-house staff were frequently seen smoking outside, and upon returning inside, the front-of-house staff did not wash their hands before going behind the bar. Even though we live nearby and visit this establishment regularly, we find the cake options to be lacking in both choice and availability, with nothing suitable for those following a plant-based diet. Furthermore, the menu is not well-suited for those who are lactose intolerant.

The hospitality in this branch is poor. The wait staff look miserable as ever and like they don't want to be there. There's an offer on the board stating free tea and coffee with house breakfast and then get told its only Mon-fri... Well please state this then, they didn't honour the free drink when we ordered even though there was poor signage misadvertising the offer. Once we had ordered and sat down, we were told to move tables as it gets busy. I'm sorry i don't care how busy you get we are paying customers who spent £30 on breakfast, we should be able to sit where we want. And really in the grand scheme of things, we are only going to occupy a table for 30 mins. It's just pure greed at this point. There were loads of tables available when we sat down. And if it was that important to you, you should either have a sign stating smaller parties have to sit on a 2 seat table or let us know before we ordered. Honestly the whole situation just made me feel very uncomfortable and unwelcomed. The service at Fishponds branch is much friendlier and hospitable.

Staff were friendly and helpful and food was great, only problem I had was the music was too loud, it was difficult to hear my friends talk.

24th of March went to the grounded having never been. Excellent food highly recommended. Brilliant service, very polite, good atmosphere Will be returning. Might even attempt the quiz night

We’ve been coming to grounded for years and it’s been sub-par for a while, but recently it’s been awful. Dirty tables, dirty cutlery and glasses plus keeping high chairs in the disabled toilets? The salad with my sandwich was clearly off. They refused to honour a breakfast deal (free coffee) because “the till won’t let me” and could be nothing but all transactions go through the till on training mode. That’s another red flag. I will avoid until there’s a change of ownership. Shame.

Beautiful place, I recommend eating breakfast, lunch or dinner.

My husband is particular about roasts but his pork had a double thumbs up and he demolished virtually the whole cauliflower cheese 😅 so high praise from him!! My beef was a little chewy in places (why it’s 4/5), but the portion size was great as was veg selection so I’d happily return but maybe get the chicken. The gravy fiend in me was pleased about the size of the extra gravy jug that arrived (without even asking! 💪) My daughter was chuffed the full kids menu was available so she didn’t have to have a roast 😂 I was pleased it came with beans - quite a few places don’t seem to give kids any veg these days?? She loved the wordsearch and mini clip board too. They don’t have puddings per se, but there’s a full selection of cakes behind the counter (inc GF and vegan options!). The rainbow cake was a big hit (“is it for unicorns?”) and the carrot cake was so moist I almost forgot about the distress of lent and not being allowed chocolate 😂 So yes, we had a lovely lunch! Staff are incredibly friendly, well behaved dogs are welcome, and the vibe is warm and relaxed. We found on street parking within a two minute walk. Would happily return!

Best Sunday lunch I have ever had

Good local. Met friends for Sunday roast lunch. Full lunch with all the trims. Friendly relaxed atmosphere. People in for beer, coffee and cake, 'walking the dog', all made welcome.

Food was OK. I would recommend the orange cake. Quite noisy and fairly full at Friday lunchtime. More options available after 4pm. It's also dog friendly. There were a couple of smallish dogs. Probably not enough space for my collie.

Popular place and little over average for a British cafe. Music was a little overbearing. Menu is good but dish I had a little under toasted, americano far too much water, but should have asked for less

Came back as was told a new menu included a Sunday roast. The roast was amazing, a good mix of fresh vegetables the pork was amazing with crackling.

Roast dinner was amazing., succulent pork, lovely roast potatoes and generous amounts of veg. The cauliflower cheese was the best I've had - very cheesy and cooked to perfection. The service was excellent, friendly helpful staff who made sure we were happy with everything. Thank you Grounded for a lovely meal 🙂

I went for a roast and it was amazing! Great portions, lots of sides to choose from and great service from the team! I would recommend this place to any of my friends and family.

Usually enjoy going but last couple of times have been poor. No music or atmosphere, all the lights turned up max, no tables cleaned anywhere and last two times both pints have been flat and warm.

Love coming to Grounded but recently in the evenings the music hasn’t been on and some of the beers are flat. It’s a shame because when the atmosphere is good and the beers are looked after it’s a great spot.

Have been in here several times in the last year. Food generally good along with the service. Always seems to be pretty busy.

Good atmosphere, good for families. Service a tad on the slow side, but we went on a Saturday lunchtime. Food was okay, nothing special & bacon anaemic.

We came for a pizza party for my daughter, she and her friends had the best time, staff were so friendly, helpful and patient and the kids loved there pizzas we definitely would recommend it to our friends

Been to a few of these and this one is just as nice as the others. Good coffee and lots going on!

My main reason for writing this review is to urge the owners to get more help for the serving staff. We visited on a busy weekend night where every table was occupied and there was just one young (teenage?) women serving who was doing her very very best to keep up with the long line forming at the bar and was friendly and professional but clearly needed a hand dealing with the number of customers. You really do have a responsibility to your young staff to ensure they are supported and also to ensure that there are enough people on duty to deal with things like changing barrels and topping up sauces when its busy

Thanks Steve and the team for making our daughters birthday pizza party extra special. She and her friends had a great time and the parents really enjoyed it too! Recommend to anyone looking for a children's party.

I politely asked the waitress if we could get some of each and she then informed us they had no black pudding so we asked for extra sausage I stead which she said we wouldn't be able to do as Sausage is worth more than black pudding. (For the record, on the menu extra black pudding is £2 which is the same as Sausage). I pushed a little and said we had only ordered the bigger breakfast for the black pudding, we may as well not have paid the difference so she said she'd ask. She did eventually bring us Sausage and tomatoes but didn't say anything about it. Pretty bad they didn't tell us when we ordered. We live locally and have had a few hit or miss experiences with Grounded. We've never found the staff to be particularly welcoming or friendly, and the food has been average at best. Went today and ordered two rounds of pancakes - one with bacon, one with strawberries. Predictably, two with bacon arrived and I told the waitress we ordered one with strawberries. She took it back, before coming back again a minute later to say we didn't order one with strawberries, as though it was my problem. I'm a long term vegetarian so definitely didn't order two with bacon. The waitress was pretty stroppy about it all, took the pancakes back and reappeared a couple of minutes later having taken the bacon off and out some strawberries on, leaving charred bits of bacon as an extra bonus. It's such a great spot for a cafe with the option of a drink and meal in the evening but I wish it was run better. I certainly won't be returning in a hurry.

What a breakfast (lunch/brunch). Exceptional quality, served hot, good service. Great size, not a cheap breakfast but you pay for what you get! Thank you!

A lovely relaxed setting, where people seem to go to work or just chill, with decent vegan food. Dogs welcomed too! Don't know what it's like at night as I've only been there during the day.

My recent visit to Grounded Brislington left me absolutely flabbergasted, and not in the pleasant sense. As a group of dedicated vegans, we entered the cafe hopeful of enjoying their plant-based menu, only to be met with a series of unfortunate events that can only be described as astonishingly unfortunate. To begin with, our order contained meat, a direct violation of our explicitly stated dietary preferences. This incident alone would have been a significant letdown, but alas, that was just the tip of the iceberg. The toast that graced our table resembled a charred relic from a bygone era, conveniently ignoring the fact that overcooked foods, like burnt toast, are purportedly linked to health risks. What truly set the tone for the extraordinary nature of our experience, however, was the cafe's attempt at rectification. After extending an olive branch in the form of a promised complimentary meal (we. had spent £68), we found ourselves in an almost comedic reversal of fortune when this offering was unceremoniously retracted. It's as if the cafe were playing an avant-garde game of emotional ping-pong, with us as unwilling participants. Adding a surreal layer to this narrative is the fact that we had previously communicated our absence due to a profoundly serious family illness. Apparently, even such circumstances couldn't deter the cafe's commitment to delivering perplexing and bewildering service. In conclusion, Grounded succeeded in turning what could have been a simple dining experience into a perplexing odyssey of culinary misadventures and communication blunders. For those who seek a dining escapade that challenges the boundaries of comprehension and basic empathy, this cafe is an undisputed champion.

Spent a large portion of an evening here. Comfy seats, attentive staff, dog friendly, food was good. Will definitely come again

Food was tasty, especially the kids' meals, but adult portions a bit on the small side. Confused that pancakes weren't available - they don't need anything special! Staff were okay but things like coffees seemed to take ages.

We come here a lot and the staff are really friendly, several times we have even been given a plate of cakes which we hadn't paid for.

Had a great catch up with my old neighbour here on a Monday night. Great choice of food & wine. Great local cafe. So good to have a local option for dinner & drinks. Loved it.

Staff were sarcastic when I asked to clean my table which had big chunks of dried food on it. The cutlery wasn't much cleaner. Food was ok but expensive for what it was. 8 years later: I thought I should give them another go, how bad can it be? I paid just under £10 for a very flat burnt panimi with barely any filling and soggy chips. Was meant to come with salad but came with none. Came away still hungry. They still haven't worked out how to wipe down tables and clean cutlery. Rating downdraded from 2 stars to one as a result.

Got a chicken burger and the chicken strips (four) were too large to have a sandwich (better than not enough), but they had been over cooked and the quality of of fries there were old dark mouldy bits. Overall experience of having to pick through burgers and make sure you don’t eat blackened fries. Not great!! A new menu supposedly, let’s hope it’s not come with a new chef as well, because it’s really not great. Looked at others eating pizza, they appeared fatter than usual, some that’s a preference, but looked a bit doughy

Really tastey and quality cooked breakfast whilst waiting for car to be serviced down the road. Amazing atmosphere, quite busy for a Thursday at 9am, but still plenty of tables available! Wish there was cafes this nice every where in Bristol!

They sent our drinks to another table and food took approximately 45 mins to arrive. Very bad service I wouldn’t recommend this place ever again.

Great atmosphere and lovely staff but the food can be hit and miss. Breakfast is usually a safe bet though 👍 Very toddler / baby friendly as well.

The last 3 times I've been here, the service has been unsatisfactory. The servers don't know the menu and can't advise. Also, food has been served that does not reflect what was ordered and coffee is weak. I won't be coming again.

I really like this cafe/bar. The food is unpretentious, cooked well, good value and tasty.(we had burger and chips with a cup of tea). Staff are friendly and efficient. The ambiance is casual and welcoming- dogs are welcome too. The place is clean with space between tables. Good loos!

Food and coffee could do with some improvement. Have eaten here twice, both times I left feeling disappointed. Last time had scramble eggs on toast, toasts were soggy with way too much butter and barely toasted, eggs also very soggy, I couldn't even finish. Coffee tasted horrible. Shame because it has a lovely atmosphere and location.

I gave this place a few goes and it's a bit hit or miss. Once we had a very decent pizza but recently it seems like pizza got worse and food in general been rushed. When I ordered a drink and I received it in a dirty glass, had to ask for a glass to be changed....the tables outside are always full of empty glasses, not the most inviting outlook!

Solid place for a meal and a chat. The breakfasts were tasty and a decent size. Coffee was good. Pleasant atmosphere, child friendly. The service was friendly, and reasonably quick considering how busy they were. I'd definitely go again.

I've dropped down to a 3 from a 5 because I was absolutely shocked to see a dog eating at the table out of a bowl that a human would eat out of. Hygiene standards, I was not impressed.

Really expensive for what it is (the rest of the cafes in the area are much cheaper, a latte is close to £4.... which for the area is too expensive. It lacks a proper selection of croissants and cafe pastries just brownies (expensive) and cakes . The door keeps opening and letting cold air in during winter. Dogs are allowed in which results in dog confrontations sometimes.

Due to open at 9am and no sign of the door being unlocked and opened and was outside waiting until 9.15am. Despite trying the door, standing outside and sitting on the outdoor seating in clear view of the staff who could see me outside. Was totally ignored by the staff stood inside chatting away! Don't mind me I was going to be a paying customer and one you lost and will not be coming back. Went across the road to the deli had a lovely hot drink and food and smashing friendly service. Avoid!

Overall, this establishment is alright, the food quality is generally nice, but the customer service really needs improvement. my first trip with my mother a couple of months ago, we ordered two teacakes that never came even after about a 40-minute wait. I had to go and ask and when they finally arrived the inside of them was undercooked and the topside was cremated, clearly they did a rush job trying to get them out. Rather disappointing especially as they didn't seem very busy in there. The second trip was today (05/02/22) when I visited with my partner. We ordered the Big Breakfast and teacakes. My partner initially ordered the smaller breakfast and ask for Black pudding but the waitress suggested the large breakfast as it came with Black pudding and was cheaper. The food came out, my teacakes never came with jam so had to ask and then was given marmalade. The big breakfast never had black pudding. We asked a waitress for the black pudding and she said she'd go get some, about 15 minutes later my partner was still waiting, so we had to ask another waiter who said he'd get some. After about another 15 minutes, he came out with a bowl of mushrooms and bacon and said they never had black pudding and would these substitutes do? My partner doesn't like mushrooms so that was wasted food. There just feels as though there is a lack of customer service. If we were informed about there being no black pudding in the first place and asked for a substitute, my partner would of asked for hashbrown and there never would have been an issue. But it seemed the staff never said anything in the hopes it would go away. There were a few staff on, and as it was cold it was only the inside with tables, so again it didn't feel like an understaffed issue, but an issue with customer service not being cared about. Overall, it's a shame as the food is alright, but the customer service of the establishment really needs tidying up.

One the nicest Groundeds' I been in. Nicely laid out with plenty of seating. Although it was busy, we got served very quickly. The coffee was good, and the BLT I had was excellent. Nice flavoured bacon, very fresh salad, and really good bread. Food wise, this was so much better than any the Lounges I used over the past 18 months.

Nice people, food wasn't great. Expensive for what it is

Waited 50 minutes for our lunch only to be told the order hadn't gone through. Quite used to food taking ages here but this takes the biscuit!

Never had my food arrive in less than 40 minutes, even when it's not busy.
