A member of our group has heard this was the oldest inn/pub so we stopped by for a quick pint. The place was BUSY even in the middle of the day. Plenty of seating outside on picnic benches if you can handle the cold (nothing a bunch of Canadians can't stomach 🇨🇦). Had my first cask ale ever here. I was pleasantly surprised, it was pretty good and it went down easier without as much carbonation! If you're into places that have a ton of history, definitely come check this place out!

Dropped in here for something to eat , on a cold day. today. Don't expect central heating though...that would spoil the place. Last time I was here was about 45 + years ago. It's still a great place to visit..the ale , the food , the staff and the cheerful service they provide, is all terrific. Recommended..but it's very popular, so like we did, go on a weekday. With it's genuinely unique atmosphere and surroundings, it's not to be missed!

Visited the oldest pub today and loved the food at atmosphere. Very tight squeeze into the rooms but they've done their best with the size. Quirky bar area with funny signs and lots of historical information. Rooms are left to their original plaster and it is cool in there as there's no heating, but they do provide blankets etc. Reasonable prices, good choice of menu too.

Mw liked it a lot, it is a one-of-a-kind pub. Very small but cozy. One can imagine what it was like hundreds of years ago. The burger was good and the chips could have been more generous, still pretty tasty. I recommend going to have a few beers and go with friends to chat and spend time, in summer it must be very good since it has a patio.

The oldest pub in England and by far one of the most interesting buildings out there! Steeped in history from 1189 and now owned by Greene King, this pub still retains an independent feel to it & has a decent selection of real ales on the bar. We only had a cheese toasty light bite for lunch but it was an ample size and was delicious. Being built into a rock face does make it quite dark inside and the lighting is fairly dim, but this is what gives it the authentic ‘olde worlde’ feel about the place. Definitely well worth a visit when you’re in Nottingham!

Nottingham's claim to the oldest pub in England. Worth popping in to see the interesting layout of a pub set into a cave. It's a Greene King, so expect standard Greene King food and drink. Lovely busy, very old pub, but sadly the food is so mediocre. Had Sunday lunch here and apart from the home made Yorkshire pudding can't rate any other component of it high. Mean portion of weak, watery gravy, lackluster roast potatoes, apart from being very anaemic were dry. What's going on with the cabbage! Carrot rings not batons, cauliflower cheese? Don't know what happened to the sauce. Biggest disappointment was the mean portion of chewy beef. Won't eat here again but a great venue and drink, such a shame because we walked by all the food from around the world on the Christmas markets. When we arrived the guy greeting us was very laid back and pretty unbothered that we had a booking. He seated us seemingly reluctantly and then we waited around 15 minutes for someone to take our drinks orders and another 15 minutes after that for someone to take our food orders. We then waited over an hour for our food, which was served by someone asking every table if they’d ordered it, and it eventually arrived at us. The wings were completely cold and the Parmesan and garlic wings had no seasoning on. Once we caught someone’s attention the food was replaced quickly and the new food was fine. The servers were very attentive and lovely - after we’d finally got our replaced food. It then took half an hour to catch someone’s attention to ask for the bill and to then wait to pay. It was not a good experience at all although the servers seemed to be doing their best. Although the atmosphere was fun, it was tainted by the extremely shouty kitchen staff :(. When we ordered another beer and tap water, the server said she wouldn’t add it to our bill, which is great but water is free anyway… so we paid full price other than £6 for 2 hours of waiting and cold food.

Went here as I’d seen pictures of the burgers online and they didn’t disappoint. Food was fresh and tasted amazing. I tried both the chicken and some of the beef burger my partner had and they were sublime. The chips had a great seasoning on them and the dips were only £1. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the music was at a suitable volume for a Friday lunch time. Definitely going to come back and try a different burger next time.
