Fat Hippo Nottingham in Nottingham

We came as a small group of friends on a Friday night, we'd booked a table and it was a good job as it was busy. As we were being taken to our table the waitress told us it would be a half hour wait for food (Although I'm not sure it was actually that long in the end!). Previously we've always been to another well known Nottingham burger place but since they've gone downhill we thought we'd try here. My meat eating friends loved their burgers and said it was far better than the other place! For me as a vegetarian the menu was a bit more limited, there were 4 vegan choices, 3 of which were fake chicken- I would've liked a couple more options of the regular burger type but the only one there was quite plain so opted for one of the 'chicken' choices. As I'm veggie and not vegan I did ask if I could have the regular cheese with mine as vegan cheese is a bit of an acquired taste! I had fries on the side, these were a bit too crunchy for me but the burger was nice. The biggest disappointment was the soft drinks- we all had a tap soft drink (some Pepsi, some diet Pepsi and an irn bru) and everyone agreed they tasted funky..almost as if they'd been made with stagnant water. I asked our waitress if I could switch my drink for a different choice as I wasn't sure if it was off, the one that it was replaced with still didn't taste quite right. Maybe the syrup to water mix was wrong, or maybe the soda water tap needed a bit of attention. I'd like to come again for the food but next time will be choosing a bottled drink!!

Greasy tasteless central and that’s the environment as well as food , yuk yuk yuk … only surpassed by the ignorant and rude staff . I don’t get the good reviews … terrible experience

Bad experience at the Fat Hippo Nottingham. I pre-booked a table for two and upon arrival was seated in the corner of the restaurant next to a huge pile of empty cardboard boxes and right next to the door to the staff-room. There were lots of empty tables in the restaurant and so we asked if we could move. We were then told that was not possible as tables are pre-allocated and cannot be changed. Very disappointed as had been looking forward to a meal here for a while. Did not end up eating here as the table ruined the experience. The staff member who spoke to us was also patronising and unhelpful.

loved it here - great portion sizes & friendly staff. the vegan options are tasty (and multiple actual choices!) the to go boxes fit perfectly in the bags too which makes me irrationally happy.

We ordered Frickles and Wachos as starters. The Frickles were unbelievably greasy and disappointing, the Wachos however were delicious. The portion sizes are huge and we were nearly full after the starters, We wished we had paid and walked out after though. We ordered 2 chicken burgers, I can't remember specific names. They were both horribly greasy and left me and my fiance feeling sick and bloated, we couldn't finish them. The staff are the best part of this place. They were friendly and polite and very helpful and they served us very quickly. Disappointing food but top notch staff.

I went yesterday with my boyfriend and it was a surprise birthday meal with a few of my friends. The food was so good and very well organised considering there was 8 of us altogether. Our servers were very attentive and friendly. This is my favourite restaurant and they always do so well when it is just me and my boyfriend, so the fact it is still just as good with a big group is amazing. Best burgers in Nottingham.

Honestly loved Fat Hippo in Nottingham. Came for my brother in laws birthday and the food blew my mind. Service was great too. Even remember thinking what a cool guy the waiter was. Will 100% be coming back. Thanks.

Great value for the £8.50 lunch deal - juicy burger, not too fatty, came out fresh, and the fries were well-seasoned! My server was super friendly and enthusiastic, coupled with an outdoor seating area which is perfect on a (rare) sunny day in Nottingham.

10/10 vibes for food, top notch service and a healthy bit of banter. Delicious food and class craic was had with Alex & Tom - read the room perfectly and knew we were up for a laugh. Appreciated the care and attention towards our nut allergy sufferer at the table. Will refrain from posting our ‘prison’ pics haha. Appreciated the holding door exit - what a geg. Our friend booked us in here as we couldn’t get in at our first choice of restaurant- this will be our first choice of restaurant from now on. Outstanding food. Very nice! Visited Sunday with family I decided to never come back again .. The service was cool our servers are absolutely nice . The main issue wss the quality of food .. Let me start with the starter .. Chicken wings ... it was burned and very oily ... Then we had a main after long wait which part is understandable if the place get busy but I believe they had some miss conversation between kitchen and floor stuff as our food was pretty cold when we get it .. Okay so where to start the Burger bun was way tok old and dry which is again I do understand but for a £16 burger I do expect fresh or toasted minimum .. The breaded chicken in the burger was unsalted bit tasteless .. My other half had onion ring with the burger it was burned and very oily again.. I had also coleslaw it was looks very nice but i didnt really taste anything just a mayo really .. lots of mayo . I had a burger with TRuffle Mayo and I have taste nothing from it as rhe bun was so dry and old . I did mention and show to the staff our problem so end of food we get 20% of ( 0.78 penny ) somehow from a £62 bill .. I was very disappointed.. I had Fat hippo in Sheffield it was amazing Mega Mega burger.. This Sunday I told family we gonna go to this place for Mega Burger as they never had before . It was first time for them .. I know a take away with £8 lamb burger hit this quality we had this Sunday unfortunately . Never back again ..

Great food, staff were more than accommodating for our autistic child who only wanted to eat Greggs.. wicktoria was especially lovely! ☺️

Absolutely amazing experience. Customer service was brilliant and food didn’t take long to come out at all. Our servers were lovely, we were served by Clayton but all staff seemed lovely! The gluten free burger was one of the best I’ve had and servers were very clued up on allergies and could make most things on the menu gluten free upon request. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

Came for my birthday with some friends and had the BEST time. Lucy and Nicole were marvellous and so friendly and the food was wonderful. Highly recommend and I will be back soon.

We attended for my partners birthday as he’s an avid burger eater and we’re on the hunt for the best burger in the UK. We weren’t expecting to find that here but still thought it would be a high ranker given all the reviews we’d read and high praises we’ve heard from friends. In all honestly, it was average and nothing more BUT was very nice for an average burger place. You won’t find the most flavourful burgers or any ‘to die for’ sides but you will find well presented burgers with decent portions and interesting flavour combinations. Service was extremely slow but it was a weekend. We were there for just over 2 hours for a single course and 1 drink each.

Loved the food. The guys working there were lovely and the main guy serving us was very chill and whimsical. we loved him.

The food was amazing. Very filling. The tall girl serving us to begin with was great but I think she must have gone on break or busy else where and all the others were stood chatting. I wanted to order another drink but couldn't get anyone's attention.

Chicken meat was clearly uncleaned /trimed and there was a an artery of some sort in the meat along with undercooked areas - will never try again - was not asked if the food was ok during or after or I would have mentioned something

The food was delicious and easily ranking 4 stars! However, the service on the other hand did fall short of this. While staff were very polite, we waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Throughout this time, there were numerous orders for Uber/Just Eat/Deliveroo collections. It did somewhat appear like these orders were more of priority for the kitchen than in-house customers. Nevertheless, it remains that the food was good but I wouldn’t want to wait 45 mins for burger and chips again. Perhaps next time I’ll order online!

Came with our 16 year old daughter. Greeting was great ! Went down hill from here ordered starters forgot one of them had to ask very polite brought out . Then had to wait for over an hr for mains again had to ask as we had been waiting for so long again very apologetic when food eventually came was cold ! So very disappointed.

The staff at Fat Hippo, Alex, Lucy and Tim all provided an incredible service during our visit to Nottingham. Alex, our main server, was nothing short of exceptional, and we will definitely be returning. 10/10 would recommend!

Alex was a fantastic host and the highlight of our afternoon. He was charming and funny and made the experience notably different from the typical restaurant routine. Definitely a notable experience, will be coming back again, not just for the food! Food was fantastic and there were good vegetarian options on the menu, the frickles were particularly delicious and I’d definitely reccomend them. Also the option to have a pint of apple/orange juice was nice.

A long wait for an average burger.....

When we first arrived it looked like a great atmosphere! However, we were seated near the door and there were lots of delivery drivers going in and out, so it wasn’t ideal! I thought with a table booking we would be seated inside…… So we waited for a proper table! We were then left for half an hour before our food order was taken with no apologises! Another family of 8 arrived after us and their food order was taken 10-15 mins of them being seated! We hadn’t waited for long for the food, when the food had arrived, the food was really nice! And the waitresses came over several times to ask if everything was okay! Despite the experience of our arrival, overall we would visit again! 🙂

Front lady had too much attitude. However the food was delicious.

Alex is fantastic at his job! We had a lush time with great food, only enhanced by fab service. As a manager in a restaurant, I can hand on heart say I'd be over joyed to have a team member like Alex, a credit to the restaurant!

Spent a lovely Saturday afternoon here with my daughter. Lovely friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for us and even let me change part of my order last minute. The food was amazing and the deep fried pickle was delicious. Our starters filled us up so we ended up being given doggy bags to take some of our main course home. It has a fairly young vibe but I didn’t feel out of place. Nice interior in a lovely location. We will be back!!

Terrible. Chips thrown into a paper bag and all over the shop. Both burger and chips were freezing on arrival. 1.5hrs for a burger and chips. We called do sort and service was friendly but offered 0 solution. Would stay well clear.

We came here before heading to the Theatre. The service was at a relaxed speed. All the food came was really tasty and we enjoyed it all. One thing the onion rings were slightly cold but still tasted good. We will return.

We visited in the evening rush and were placed upstairs with a large group, we were expecting to be forgotten about but we absolutely weren't. The loveliest waitress came over promptly to take our order and made sure we had everything we needed, The food arrived quickly and everything was delicious. The food and service was fantastic and we would definitely recommend to family and friends.

The food was amazing!! So so tasty with a wide choice to choose from. The ultimate comfort food anyone can ask for. Just the cheese balls for example, they’re huge and crispy on the outside with a really generous amount of cheese. At least you get exactly what is said on the menu and the portions are big! The staff is also very friendly and welcoming. There was a bit of a wait when we went but it did look quite busy. This is a must try and I definitely recommend it! Edit: a little update after having been here several more times. The staff is always so welcoming and the food absolutely delicious. There has been quite a wait however so something to keep in mind if you have limited time.

Random lunch outing and came here after seeing it packed on a weekend. Mains are all burgers, I had a little main as it was lunch time, which was enough. The price was reasonable but the food was just ok.

Incredibly disappointing experience here tonight unfortunately. We came here for our son's thirteen birthday so the whole thing was even more disappointing. We had an hours wait for the mains which then arrived cold. The food itself was mediocre and we weren't hungry by the time they came as it was fourty minutes after the starter. The manager noticed the delay and gave us 20% off mains but overall we still spent £80 on a meal that none of us really enjoyed. It was such a shame and put a real damper on a special birthday. Will not be visiting again.

My partner & I had a great experience dining here. The burgers are incredible (The American & The Fat Hippo), and the sides were great too (Frickles, waffle fries and super crunchy onion rings). Drinks selection was great too, we tried the Fat Hippo IPA - a decent drop, standard IPA. Staff were very friendly, atmosphere was good, we were able to easily hold a conversation.

Some of the best burgers that we have ever had! We had booked a table for 4 and were told that they were very busy so could expect a 45 minute wait on food. To be expected but we only actually waited half an hour at most. The service was excellent - we had one of the most friendly waiters who made our dining experience very enjoyable. The food was delicious and very good portion sizes for the price we paid. Would recommend the ‘Honey Monsta’. 2 beef patties with buttermilk chicken that has hot honey on top. For 4 people including drinks, mains and sides it came to £87, which is very good value especially considering how nice the burgers are!

Burgers were fine, nothing special, looked fab but lacked flavour. Sides were cold and very greasy. Floors and seats desperately need a good clean. Staff all friendly but very distracted with their mobiles. Very busy place so would recommend booking if you want to visit.

Food was amazing as usual, had a really big party for a work meal (15+ people) on a last minute booking but they were very accommodating and service was still really fast, everyone was super friendly. Special shout-outs to Clayton, Jess, Jen and Jaz for being ace and just generally good at their jobs. 11/10 one of the best burger places in Notts, great staff.

Visited early on a Saturday, needed to book but was seated quickly and well looked after. Burgers were top notch, we had one kids meal which filled our 9 year old and the burgers for the three grown ups. Very tasty burgers and the added surprise of vegan ice cream (great for the non-dairy in the group) felt reasonably priced and will return again. Service was super friendly and just the right level of banter and chat to make sure were looked after.

Overall the food was really great. Really recommend the tator tots! But the service brought it down, for the following reasons: 1. We initially came in on the Friday and were turned away, but when we went to book online, there was loads of tables available for that evening, at that exact time. We ended up booking for the following day. 2. Our designated waiter made us feel really uncomfortable, addressing us as 'darling' all of the time and invading personal space. As well as raising his eyebrows at requests such as removing jalapenos from a burger. It made us feel uncomfortable.

I would definitely recommend them and I certainly will be paying them a visit next time I am in town. UPDATE; back in Nottingham and couldn't resist another visit. Food good as always and staff were great.

Please adjust your deliveroo wait time. Every single time I have been to collect an order it’s a minimum 5 minute delay, but usually more like 10. Why not just adjust your ready times to match the time it takes to cook the food? No wonder all the drivers hate this restaurant and encourage people to order from elsewhere

Smashing burgers! 🍔 I would personally recommend the hot honey burger. The tater tots are ADDICTIVE. The milkshake wasn’t quite what I had hoped for, but overall I really enjoyed the meal and would recommend it to anyone 👌🏻

Really nice atmosphere and the food is good for the price

Food was some of the best i’ve ever had. Cooked to perfection. Bun is a well crisped brioche and the cheese balls, you would not believe how it can be so cheesy without being overwhelming. Complete opposite when it comes to service. We were shown to our table by a friendly fellow but the two women that served our table led to some of the rudest and incompetent behavior i’ve ever encountered. Can we have two waters, brought one. When I asked for another. Asking how long the food will be, was met with insults. At many points we were getting side eyed by our waitress, it was comically bizarre at a point. Still would come back for the food despite the awkward and poor service.
