Delivery was almost 2 hours late. The restaurant told us that the food had been ready for collection on time, but drivers were not collecting. Extremely dissatisfied. Please refund delivery, including the delivery tip included. 0 stars for delivery.

We returned to the restaurant part of the fish and chip shop, after visiting previously and having a great experience. This time, things felt a bit different, with staff (who seemed very nervous or new) being overly attentive and explaining the history of the building before we had ordered. The menu listed either small or large cod and chips, which we took as 'regular' or large. Boy were we wrong! The small cod and chips were certainly on the small side and were more akin to a child's portion. Whilst me and my friend grumbled about it, we didn't feel the need to complain at the time, as the quality of the fish, batter and chips was very good. It was a shame really, as we came away still feeling hungry and underwhelmed.

Absolutely incredible place for a sit down fish and chips experience. A beautiful 500 year old building with amazing food! The staff are so accommodating and proud of how much history this restaurant is. We were craving fish and chips, and this place was perfect!! Would definitely come again, and recommend to anyone who visits Gloucester! 🐟🍴☺️

The haddock was lovely and moist , however the batter was very greasy .. Although it was huge ! The curry sauce was nice , bit cold .. Nice chips . Pricey though

Everything was great. yummy batter and the cat enjoyed the Haddock too. Yum 😋 veggie pie was my highlight.

The fish was nasty and greasy it had a really bad taste and the chips had a nasty taste and mixed with stale old chips that’s been reheated I will never order from this chip shop again 👎🏻

Happy with the service although the food could have been warmer. Unfortunately it’s a common happening when you live 4 miles from the restaurant. I would order again.

Popped in on a cold night on way to an event at the cathedral.... and what a find! Best fish and chips I've had in years. Friendly owner, great location near the cathedral. If I lived locally I would be a regular.

Been almost 40 years since I was last in here. Wife has hospital appointment which ran late and fancied fish and chips. Having moved back up from Cornwall struggled to find decent fish and chips. The food here was outstanding. Not a single thing I or wife could or would complain about (except maybe the bread roll- don’t use them - so much worse than everything else. Fish was perfect. Crisp batter moist fish neither over or under cooked. Not an ounce of grease. We shared a large fish and chips plus sides of scallops and a pea fritter. Everything was cooked perfectly. The batter was amazing on everything it covered. The high light was the chips. Crispy outside, fluffy inside and perfect size not too thick not to thin. So food gets a tick and the Manager gets a big tick too. Very attentive, everything cooked fresh and perfectly handled. Don’t mind waiting 10mins for quality and that’s what we got. It’s not cheap but who cares. Something 2/3rds price still wouldn’t be cheap but in our experience of Fish and chip shops around GL1/2 areas totally inferior to here. Wife has another appointment Friday and absolutely certain where we are going! Congratulations to all involved.

Great experience here at the weekend. Fish and chips was amazing but what was even better was the service. A really friendly welcome and experience, and they went out of their way to make sure our kids had a nice time too. Will certainly be back!

Thoroughly enjoyed it. The plaice was massive! And cooked to perfection, batter crispy and light. And just the right portion of chips. Loved the retro style salad as it reflected the olde worlde feel of the building.

Wonderful fish and chips served by very friendly staff. The preson who served us took time to explain the history of the building dating back to the 1500's and that it was a fish shop in the 1930's. I had the large fish and chips served with mushy peas, best tasting fish I have had for a long time. Chips were really good too. Everyone in our party agreed that we would return next time we were in the area.

Delicious fish and chips and the staff were wonderful. It was the perfect place to enjoy lunch after a visit to the cathedral. It was more than we would normally pay for fish and chips but the quality was very high and we dined in. My Japanese partner and I enjoyed the history of the place.

I've been eating here for years and got to say the worst service here tonight (because they were busy). As a customer that is not my problem!! We were seated at 17.25 and asked by the waiter to leave our table (we were still eating and drinking) to be moved downstairs. I asked for the bill and they were all looking at each other puzzled, I was then waiting to pay my bill and get attention off a member of staff to be told they're too busy and when asked for a reduced bill I was told 'No' by the manager who then said 'Yes, pay £5 less by the manager himself. Another member of staff came to me with the card machine to pay the full balance at which point I wasn't happy to pay this and the manager said to his staff charge £30 instead of £35.90 but it was 'too late' I then asked the manager for £5 cash as he was happy to refund BUT as soon as I said the service this evening was terrible he replied 'No, don't give her the money/refund. I was then asked to leave the shop by the manager and told 'Don't ever come back here again' and he turned his back leaving me to speak with a female member of staff who may I also add was paying me £5 until the manager shouted from the shop (serving customers) Get her out. Very disappointed and will never return here again!! Food wasn't up to standard also, very rushed, pushy towards my disabled father also who was on crutches.

Absolutely disgusting meal .For the price of it , it took the Micky. Fish was a very small bit . ( size of a mobile phone ) and the chips was hard .Like they had been cooked a few times .And what we paid for a pot of tea . Well , what could I say . Overall a terrible meal . Won’t be going there again .

Friendly and courteous service but it was late evening and four of us chose the small fish and chips. For the size of the portion of fish it was very expensive. The actual fish was tiny, the smallest piece I have ever been served anywhere.

The fish and chips were excellent. We were a party of 12 and they were quick and efficient to serve us. We will definitely be back!

Chips were sadly lukewarm & had deteriorated on the journey. They were pale in colour & not dry & crisp like they usually are. Fish was good if not rather smaller than usual too. £33 for two pieces, one chips & one sauce delivered. Quite pricey for a rather disappointing experience.

We have already made a complaint about 19.00/20.00hrs yesterday and I have been unable to find any further information,i was asked to provide a photo when the missing information arrived I am therefore enclosing it now

Sadly this place has gone massively down hill with its current ownership! I’ve used this chip shop when in the area for years.. and it’s always been lovely.. Currently the food is ok, but nowhere near as good as it used to be! My issue is the attitude of the arrogant server! Not sure if he is the owner, but my goodness he is rude! Doesn’t like taking any other payment method other than cash! And gave both myself and the lady behind me a dressing down over choosing to pay by card.. Food was cold, over priced, and despite me asking for it to be put in trays, trays were thrown at me and I was told to do it myself! He needs to go.. he is ruining a reputation of a business that has flourished for many more years than he has existed!

I don't know how this place has won awards! The portions are minute! A small cod was literally a tiny tail end of a fillet! Smaller than a child's portion! Fair enough, the chips weren't greasy, but again, it was a miniscule portion! The fish was crispily coated, but flavourless. The guy 'serving' didn't speak, not even a "Hello" when we arrived and sat at our table. He was sullen and made us feel unwelcome. I ordered a diet coke, which arrived completely flat in a branded Coke glass which wasn't filled.to anywhere near the top. It was undrinkable. From the prices they charge, I think they are of the belief that they re in a high end part of London! It may be an historic building, but there is and huge difference between olde worlde charm and poor maintenance and decor. Needless to say, we will never be returning, as there are far better establishments, within a short distance, that don't charge the Earth for a paltry portion!

We were looking for a good fish & chips. We found Ye Old Restaurant & chip shop, devices to give it a try and it was just what we were looking for. The fish was delicious, light crispy batter and the chips were fresh cut, cooked perfectly. We met another couple who travel one & a half hours by bus just to go there! That means something! We really recommend it! Busy take away & Great friendly service as well.

Absolutely shocking customer service pig ignorant doesn’t start to cover it and I believe this was the owner. Food is bang average and prices are extortionate! £1.70 for a can absolute rip off. I will never set foot in this place again

Disgusting prices. 2x Small Fish and Chips, 1x buger and chips, 3 soft drinks. £53.00. The size of fish was indeed small, in fact very small. I have never been served a smaller piece of fish in any restauraunt in my life. The ordering, service etc was very challenged, in fact would hardly call it service. Payment was also very, very difficult. Attempted to pay by card but it proved that their machine was not capable of acceptingpayments. Matbe that cash is better ????? for them. !!!!!!!!!!!!! to administer ???!!!???!!! DO NOT, repeat , DO NOT go anywhere near the toilets . They are disgusting inappearance, cleanliness and smell horrific. My daughter tells me the Ladies was in identical condition. I appreciate only too well that prices have risen ( and portions have decreased) during recent months but this restaurant is a joke. They are taking the mickey( to be polite) Displeased Pensioner and Family.

Lunchtime meal .....made to feel very welcome....friendly guys in there....very dog friendly ..even giving our boy a sausage and a nice big bowl of water. Food was very very nice. .......lovely piece of haddock .....fish cake also lovely.....chips were amazing.... nice cold drinks on this very hot day .....10/10 for all our food.. Didn’t get many chips with my fish

Fish great, chips could be better. Expensive. No signage for the toilets in the restaurant upstairs. Doesn't take £50 notes. When the bill was £36.00 for the two of us this just does not make any sense.

I went for take away fish & chips. Our third time. I hardly ever carry cash but they have taken my card as payment twice before. On this occasion they refused my card! They didn’t want my custom! They said it was the managers decision to not allow card payments for takeaway transactions. Upstairs is allowed to use the card machine only! They have lost us now. We won’t be returning. We were getting to be quite regular visitors too!

I have read the reviews by others and the responses by management but as we were visiting my son and wanted to try local fish and chips we decided to try here. My recommendation is dont! I will be slated by management but I've been eating fish and chips for over 50 years and it is one of my favorites and this was by far the worst I have ever had. The fish was tasteless, it wasn't frozen it was just poor quality, had skin on and of the 5 portions ordered only one didn't have bones in it, yes fish comes with bones but a good fish and chip shop doesn't serve it this way. Very disappointed as I had hoped the other review were wrong, actually I think they were generous. We've been to 2 other fish and chip restaurants and take aways this week and the difference was night and day!
