We fell upon this restaurant today. I don’t review often! This place was too good not to. The food was so tasty and hot. I had Lamb curry. The ambience was just lovely and the very waitress was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be revisiting to have some more of this gorgeous food.

Six of us enjoyed a delicious Sunday Roast today, consisting of 4 x meat, 1 x vegi and 1 x vegan Massive portions, tasty vegetables and served hot. Couldn't fault the vegan/vegi option, and the lamb, beef and steak were given a thumbs up by the gang

Came to cafe rene on the off chance for a drink, I've been here before many times (in my students days) but never tried the food. The tables were clean and food was really good value for money. I had a fish finger sandwich and the bread was very fresh and my partner had the beef, red onion and horseradish sandwich which was served warm. Both came with chunky chips and salad. Very impressed! 👏

A lovely pub where they made us welcome and provided lovely food.

I arranged a Christmas work party at Cafe Rene and it was wonderful. The food well i give full credit to the chef as it was the best Christmas dinner I have had at a works Christmas party. The mushroom starter was out of this world. The staff were lovely and nothing was to much trouble for them. Chris well done you are doing an amazing job.

A great pub with some friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere. Live bands and festival style events. The only reason I knocked a star off for food is due to not having it for a few years now so cannot comment on current expectations but was pretty good pub grub when I did have it!

Great service from the two waitresses Sheena and Simone who created a nice atmosphere to enjoy my food and drink in, surrounding customers were very positive about their experience here, I enjoyed it so much i stayed for 3 hours and did my Uni work, will defintely be coming back. To note the food was amazing and all staff had a calm chemistry togther resulting in a relaxed enviroment for eveyrone to enjoy.

Bar is great inside, order a few pints and was asked 3 times what I would like and they still messed the order up!

A gem of a place hidden away off the main street. A great selection of well-kept ales, cosy atmosphere and the food is just what you want. The burgers were excellent; I’ll definitely be back again.

Great local pub and restaurant with incredibly friendly & laid back atmosphere + regular good live music sessions & other events. Does a good food menu everyday and proper roast dinners on Sundays. Open & serving alcohol till late as they have a 24hr license

This is a wonderful place. Came here at lunchtime, had an excellent pint of beer and a really good plate of whitebait with a nicely dressed salad - and all at a very reasonable price. The guy serving behind the bar was extremely friendly and very customer focused. And, of course, it's a really great and interesting building.

Excellent venue right in the center of Gloucester. Tasty food, good atmosphere. 2 to 3 times a week live music usually free admission. Will go again when in Gloucester.

Great venue for music lovers at particular times throughout the year. Particularly blues if you like that. Unique that it has a well inside it. Service good.

Went for drinks. Service was a little rude and unwelcoming despite it being fairly quiet. The live music and general atmosphere was great though. Cafe Rene is always a good place to go with friends for an alternative scene.

A real gem of a place. I did find it on google before we arrived in Gloucester and had already decided that we would be eating here. We were not disappointed. A really nice atmosphere with friendly staff. The food was really good, we visited both the days that we were in Gloucester. Highly recommended if you want quaint. Looks like a good place for live music too.

Visiting Gloucester we called in yesterday morning when the cafe wasn’t open just to take some photos outside but the owner came out and was so friendly and let me take photos inside and took the time to give us the fascinating history of the cafe and area. Hospitality was so good we will be back to try the food and listen to music!

A very interesting place. Like everything in England, it has its own mysterious history shrouded in mystery. Very tasty food, great variety of cider, huge portions. The interior is incomparable, the staff is attentive but not intrusive

Our meal at Cafe Rene was fantastic: ciders (berries and cherries), Guinness, and the delicious Steak & Ale Pie! The atmosphere is cozy and the team is super welcoming. Definitely visit Cafe Rene and order the Steak & Ale Pie! (Cool detail: the ceiling is all bottles)

Lovely friendly atmosphere, and on the night I was there had the mix if reggae at the main bar and rock in the cellar bar . Good prices and lovely staff, even the security are lovely

Best pub/restaurant in Gloucester

We came here today for the first time for my partners 25th birthday and WOW it did not disappoint. The food was incredible and was more than what we expected. Nice little seating area with a really cool ceiling. Staff are lovely and helpful and also very welcoming. We will definitely be coming again as we were extremely impressed.

Food (fish and chips} pleasant and inexpensive. Seats not very clean-spills not cleaned up at the start of lunch session. and a little scruffy They need to review table cleanliness. When i asked for more tartar sauce I was told I would have to pay extra for it which I have never experienced at any restaurant before. Service otherwise good

The music is good here. Certain staff members can occasionally be snooty. I haven't tried the food. Price for a soft drink is good.

Brilliant cafe in a good location has live music most weekends. Good location for a beer and snacks with good outdoor seating Drinks and food are fairly priced and well worth a visit We went here to listen to some old music band dogs are allowed on the premise

Our 1st time visiting and we came back 3 times. The food is outstanding and the entertainment was fantastic. Very friendly and would highly recommend.

I loved this bar down a side street. We had a cask ale on our way into town. It's popular and full of character inside but we managed to grab a table outside.

Lovely pub down a passage with picnic tables outside. There were 3 cask ales, all Green King (not the generally dull standard IPA,) -- they were ok, but we did find them a little dull, and a little warm. But - well worth going, lovely place.

Absolutely loved this place. Atmosphere and ambience was superb. A real gem of a place and the food was even better. Lamb curry was lovely and spicy. Really worked for me. Budvar was great too; went very well with the hot curry.

Why at big day at renegade festival why are not more toliets open and available bet its to do with bit more cash less in profits department Well tonight had good meal with sarah Harleyquinn both had good meals ......however i believe it may be haunted my glass of lovely dark beer without prompt flew off table both me and partner amazed this wierd event happend ............but bet i get charged All round gud As long as you don't go for a meal Honestly the chef s are not fit to work in a back alley crack den . After trying to find a place to eat regularly, with my partner 5 times tried to give fair trial . And on all 5 occasions Ryan and Nathan the slop jockeys as chefs a insult FAILED to serve two sirloin steak meals correct .when asking for a rare stake for me ,and medium to well done . For the medium to well done had to be sent back every time and on one occasion three times and still FAILED. Honest opinion they need sacking as now from spending £average 135.00.so £6348.00 loss over year Will not eat here again! Advise you don't Even staff complain how lack there attitude is . Management failed to call next day to offer compensation Drinks n social good along live music 🎶 Sadly tried again to eat two steaks orderd . This steak was supposed to be med to well Done Retrain your staff in kitchen . Eating out is a luxury so seems only fair you staff are trained to serve as requested. Paid full price to not Be accused of seeking cheap Bill !!!

Only comment was a member of staff needed more people skills and not seeming as if shes gonna throw ur drink or food over u she needs better skill and not seem offish 2 customers and more friendly other wise meals drinks service and food was well presented hot but think it needs a little more variety in the menuxx

Friendly staff; big portions and lovely food (you do get a full sandwich!). Coffee is nice but could be hotter. Don't know why it's not busier, but definitely worth the visit! Gluten free and vegetarian options are available.

Great little venue hidden away from the city. Considering it was a Tuesday evening the restaurant was almost fully booked. We were served our mains and drinks as expected but then we were never offered any more drinks or desserts which is a shame as it was almost too late when we realised as we would have jumped at the chance of desserts.

Fantastic find. First time in Gloucester and we stopped in a couple pubs along the way... simply typing 'pub' in Google didn't reveal Café René but after typing 'pub lunch' into the search bar (because of a real craving for a fish finger sandwich) we found this place. Gorgeous interior, with a brick well in the middle of the entrance(!), and really friendly staff. This pub seems to offer it all. The food was ace, fantastic thick cut sandwich with a dressed salad and the model thick cut triple cooked chips... Plus, they host live music. They told us about a festival happening tomorrow and DJs right into the night, then a jam session on Sunday. Happy days!

Good music and a lively atmosphere. The decorations are very cool and interesting. Very drunk people that can make you feel a bit uncomfortable at times but that's probably not a permanent feature. One man got a taxi for his dog at 1am.

Interesting, eclectic place! Quiet when we got there so maybe we didn't get the best of the atmosphere. Ok range of drinks. Didn't have any food.

Had a wonderful time for my birthday. Cant fault the food. Squash wellington was very tasty.

Went for Sunday dinner and although all tables were booked the staff found us a table with no issues in the main bar. The food was delicious and plentiful and I would highly recommend Cafe Rene. The staff are always friendly and polite. A very niche bar for Gloucester but one that will stand the test of time.

Only popped in for a drink. They manage to sync their restaurant service with the pub drinking environment. Warm and welcoming.
