very old pub with lots of character, staff are welcoming . food looked good but didn't try it.

We used only the restaurant and it was great. My husband was not impressed with the vegetarian option ( pea risotto) - not enough taste - that's why 4 stars.. also 1 course and drinks for 4 people under £80..... no inside to the hounted hotel, though - not breve enough!

Often eaten Sunday Lunch here as were local, good food however was shocked that the prices have risen by 41% typical £10.00 now £16.85 or two for £30.00! Online menu still states previous prices. Pity as no doubt many regulars will be put off

I had a spooktacular time at Ye Olde Kings Head (aka My Haunted Hotel) with the ladies! We received a friendly welcome and enjoyed some wickedly delicious meals with menu names that sent shivers down our spines. The historic and spooky vibes, plus a roaring fire, made it an unforgettable haunt-tastic experience! The icing on the eerie cake – the view of the spooky doll shop across the road cranks up the vibe at Ye Olde Kings Head! Talk about a perfectly haunted setting for a meal of thrills and chills. 👻

Called in with our dogs late afternoon and glad we did its a place full of character fabulous staff and a lovely roaring fire. A must to visit if in Chester. Highly recommended.

This place is local for us and we were desperate for a Sunday Roast, after failing to find one elsewhere. We walked in, the welcome straight off from the lady behind the bar (one of two twins, Scouser's I think! I didn't get their names) was lovely and throughout the night the service from both was brilliant and it truly makes a difference. And as for the Sunday Roast itself...absolute perfection and very very good value for money. Very highly recommended, and also this place is a bit haunted too. Worth a visit any day of the week. Thank you to everyone at Ye Olde Kings Head Chester.

My husband took me to the Kings Head, Chester, yesterday for our 35th Wedding Anniversary and we had a lovely time. We had our table booked for 7pm, but we arrived early and was happy to wait enjoying a couple of drinks.🍷🍻 However, the staff had sorted a table far sooner than we expected. 👍 My husband had previously messaged the pub asking about My Haunted Hotel merch for a surptise gift for me for our anniversary, but was told they don't have merch on site. However, once we sat down at the table, a member of staff came to us wishing us a Happy Anniversary and asked, 'do you still want merch, as they had some in their car'. It was clearly meant to be as they had my size too, so Phil bought me a hoodie. 🥰 Had the best steak EVER! Seriously, in all my years that steak was devine! The meal was delicious! The staff and service was first class! After our main course, the Kings Head surprised both Phil and I with very special dessert. Massive thank you to all the staff at the Kings Head, in particular a massive thank you to Jade and Cara for looking after us both. ❤️🥰 The Kings Head is a very special place, and I am really looking forward to going back there! If you haven't already been there, please go, you will not be disappointed! ❤️ I really want to investigate this place and spend a night at My Haunted Hotel. 🖤

Incredibly friendly staff and a warm welcome. Fish and chips, and Caesar salad, all top notch. Could have done with leas of the haunted house theme as the atmosphere of the tavern decor etc is marvellous enough! Lucifer needn't be the patron of my lemon meringue pie. Great place. :)

Spent quite a few nights at Ye Old Kings Head Chester...albeit some people may know it as MHH.What an amazing place...the food is amazing..staff friendly and if you stay over you may just witness some paranormal activity.Love this place were due to go back shortly....highly recommend a visit

A great pub, staff very helpful. I saw a black dog, a parrot and a lady in dark clothing with a white veil or cloth over her face. These were spirits before you ask. The lady was not very happy and seemed upset. The dog was about the size of a lab and just pottering around the place. As for the puppet In The fire place I did not feel anything untoward, but not to say its good or bad. Being a physic medium for years it's not unusual. Wod defo go back for a hunt or sleep over. One of the pubs In Chester I have not done a ghost hunt as the medium..

Proper old style haunted pub restaurant. Friendly staff. Excellent food and drink. Chester City a wonderful place to be.

Great pub food, attentive staff! Didn't need to wait long at all to be served even though it was fairly busy. Stopped by one night for food and again for the haunted experience. Even if you're not staying at the hotel, you can see haunted artifacts in the pub. I recommend the burger or the mushroom side dish. Scrumptious!

Stayed here for the 'My Haunted Hotel' we arrived early and had the food. Amazing quality food, very fresh and great flavours. Defo coming again. The ghost investigation experience was amazing aswell.

What an amazing Sunday roast. Everything about this place was top notch from The moment I walked through the door. The staff behind the bar couldn’t of been more he if they tried. The food was probably one of the best Sunday Roasts I’ve had. I loved the old school feeling inside the bar area. My second visit here. Hopefully many more to come

What lovely staff 2 ladies on Friday night the 29th from Liverpool they were just excellent what most other people in hospitality are not they were personable chatty spoken to everyone when the bar was quiet it was clear they have pride in what they are doing this is what every pub should aspire to of I had my own pub I would employ them in a heartbeat they are a credit to the industry and made a lovely night even more magical what a lovely cosy pub

Okay, so this review will be dual --- my family and I stayed here to do the My Haunted Hotel ghost hunt. When we got in, the staff was super-friendly, and the food was very good. Beer was great. The pub was excellent, with a spooky atmosphere. The ghost hunt was awesome.... they had gear and they assigned us areas to investigate. Some people were more experienced and brought their own gear. Truthfully, I think we had a several paranormal experiences. I'm fully aware that it could have been a set-up, but the pub's owner and his partner seemed earnest, and as I said, others had their own gear that seemed to be picking up activity. My daughter and I are convinced we had an experience, whereas my wife was more skeptical. More on that in a minute. The hotel situation sucked. At the end of the ghost hunt, at about 1am, you go back to your room. They don't launder the linen, so you're advised to have your own or a sleeping bag, which we did. No towels either. Even without the 'activity', it was not a comfortable place to sleep. If you're on the fence about going, I'll say one last thing...... we only made it to 4am, and then we fled like the family in Amityville Horror! There were knocks on our door throughout the night (didn't open it, and the hallway had no tell tale footsteps of people). So, while we all have a shred of doubt, we believed enough that we basically ran out at 4 and slept in the car!!! Not proud. I'd do it again, but the next time I'd rent a room down the road to go to after the ghost hunt!

Couldn’t see a ghost (but they are invisible) but thought the bar staff were very friendly and welcoming. Good place to have a good chat and just chill. Sure the food is good but I can speak for the Guinness and it’s great!!

Only recently found out about this pub/inn after spotting the My Haunted Hotel poster outside and then started to watch their YouTube channel out of curiousity. Grabbed a quick pint in there last night. Spooky place, nice staff, and the drink prices are very reasonable too! (They don't just serve spirits!)

Great fun taking US family to a pub built before their country. In fact just 2 years after the mayflower. Strange to think troops in the English civil war may have sunk pints here !!!!! Good friendly service all the way through. Well done team. Beers were great - my blonde IPA Was tasty. Son liked his lager. Neck oil went down well with US Uncle. Food portions were generous. Beef roast was great. Meat a little tough. But excellent veg & yorkshire pud. Wife’s fish & chips were huge. Tried a couple of those. One of our party has an excellent pie. Couldn’t manage pudding !! Good meal out.

Unique experience with amazing food. We enjoyed dining next to an haunted doll! The food was excellent and afterwards we went home and watched several episodes of My haunted hotel. We will definitely be back. 100% recommend.

It is hard to believe but I stayed at this pub for 3 nights back in 1982. I think I paid 17 pounds per night for my accommodation. What great memories I have of my stay, Bruce Barton, Adelaide, Australia.

Lovely pub, lovely staff welcoming atmosphere

The food here is excellant, really good sized quantities and very good quality. I had the gammon with "real chips", the gammon was quite thick and moist, probably the best I have ever had in a pub. In fact all the food was good and reasonably priced. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Really nice welcome when I popped in mid week at lunchtime (June 2023). I hadn't a clue it's haunted and they have their own YouTube channel and merch. Half a Carling £2.20.

Great hosts, fantastic place to spend a night on a paranormal investigation.

Went to Kings Head on 30th May 23 with my mum and had a great time. The staff are super friendly, the pub atmosphere is nice, not too loud so you can hear whoever you are with speak. The fire wasn’t on when we went in but the weather was warm so no need for the fire. The inside of the pub is nice, great decor. For starters, we had the sharing Nachos which were nice and for main, I had the fish n chips which was AMAZING! My mum had the beef stew which she loved, proper big piece of decent beef also. Highly recommend this pub, please note the staff can’t accept tip when paying by card. Felt so bad not having cash on us as the service was brilliant. X

It was a very interesting visit. Bar staff were very friendly. It was a lovely, cosy, olde worlde pub with an open fire and warming atmosphere. Even though it is widely known as being haunted. We read the visitors' book full of their ghostly experiences. I'm not sure if we'd like to actually stay there overnight after reading it? 😲 They all said they would go back and stay again, though. 😊

This is a well-preserved, lovely old pub with a lot of character in central Chester. We had bangers and mash plate and the fish and chips. The bangers and mash were very good but not outstanding. The fish and chips were excellent. Portions were large and prices reasonable. They had a couple good quality cask ales - we had the Blacksheep Bitter. The beer was well kept. Service was good.

Called in here a few times during a weekend in Chester with my wife as we were staying in the hotel on the same street. A great pub with very friendly staff who made us very welcome. A lovely atmosphere and a great selection of beer and cider. Will definitely be calling in next time we visit.

Next door to the Haunted Hotel. Very dark and dingy at one end, so moved around opened up to a brighter area with log fire. Only had drinks.

Only called in for a drink but Kelly was so lovely we stayed for more than one.

Within 200 yards of our hotel. walked in not knowing what to expect...but.. atmosphere warmth and .... Brilliant staff the 2 lads on duty were excellent. warm welcome (real fire) well pulled pints excellent, value for money choice of food, willing to chat re paranormal...

Very welcoming place to visit. Food was amazing tasty and filling and fantastic prices. Cocktails (ghost martini and killer kola) were lush. Overnight stay didn’t disappoint either. Hopefully will be returning before the end of the year! Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved this little old pub! Dog friendly. We had a meal for 4. We Had fish and chips, pea and mint risotto, fish finger sandwich, and the steak and ale pie, all meals were tremendous, huge portions and delicious! And such good value for money! Highly recommended! The staff are just lovely!

The barman assumed we were drunk and well overcharged for our drinks, I called him up on it at time of paying and he said it had just been a mistake and “refunded” us cash he had ready to hand, assumedly that he was about to pocket upon not being called out. Be weary of the staff here. He was clearly trying to rob up. An outright crime.

Had lunch at this atmospheric and reputedly very haunted inn while on a visit to the Christmas Market. Just a short walk from the city centre and close to the River Dee, it has a fascinating history, evident in the dark oak beams made from timbers salvaged from a sunken ship, and the 17th century sword and shoes discovered here and mounted above the bar. There was a crackling log fire and the pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Quirky downstairs toilets (due to the irregular architecture you have to mind a few steps and low ceilings). Very welcoming staff and a friendly atmosphere. Dogs are welcome. Had a lovely warming glass of mulled wine as soon as I arrived - just what I needed on a very cold day! There's a good choice of wines, ale, gin and cocktails as well as hot drinks. Plenty of choice on the lunch menu too, from bar snacks and ciabattas to traditional homemade cooked meals. Had the steak and ale pie with creamy mash, cabbage and a jug of rich gravy. Food was hot and well cooked, the meat lean and tender, good portions. Could not resist the deliciously rich chocolate brownie with chocolate ice-cream for afters! Reasonably priced compared to many eateries in Chester. Have been to this pub a few times and always enjoy coming here. Highly recommended!

Me and my friends came down for the England vs France game last night. We had ordered a few rounds via the waiting staff when I was asked if I wanted to order anymore, I enquired about crisps to which I was very rudely told by a member of staff in a black jumper with lightening bolts on to “go downstairs and get them myself”. Considered we had ordered crisps through another member of staff prior it was shocking and tarnished the experience. It was even more disappointing as the other staff were great and very polite. The same member of staff was also rude to other members of the group as they again rather rudely demanded that they move along as soon as they had arrived. It would be shame to allow this certain member of staff’s very apparent attitude issue ruin anyone else’s experience in what has the potential to be a very pleasant pub.

Beautiful surroundings and excellent food

Travelled to Chester for a day out and finished off with a drink here. Was very warm when we came in as the fire was on so went to sit a little bit away as it was very hot. We had seen on Nuke's Top...

A big thank you to Demi and the team for looking after us so well. We hosted my partners 45th birthday party which was Medieval themed, we hired the function room upstairs and used the throne room. Demi was excellent with communicating, nothing was too much to ask for. The food was excellent especially the Tempura prawns and Beef stew. Our barmen were attentive and even acted in character for the theme. I highly recommend having your next event here. We didn’t have any ghosts about but they were welcome to join 😁 5 stars to you guys! Thanks for looking after us. We will be back!

Four of us had a meal here last night on the 1st November, two of us had the steak and kidney pie and it was delicious. Definitely recommended. The two twins (didn't get there names) made us feel like we were locals. It's a brilliant place to eat with great atmosphere.

Supposedly the most haunted pub. 🤔 Mmmm, not so sure as I don't believe in all that rubbish. However decorated appropriately, nice atmosphere, cosy.

Lovely atmospheric pub- coal fire, beams, quirky toilets. Had very tasty beef pie, obviously home-made and stuffed with big pieces. All the staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Definitely will be back again and happy to recommend 😊

My husband and I visited the pub on a Friday lunchtime and took a seat by the window. Very friendly waitress served us during our meal. We chose the chicken caesar salad and the fish finger sandwich with chunky chips. We had lemon meringue pie...

Place was packed at 4.30pm on a Saturday.A couple of young female staff just rude to be honest.Felt a bit unwelcomed.As a group of four, and one of us had to sit down, to be told "table reserved " asking "what time?" To be told 6 30.I said "it's 4 30 and we're sitting here for this drink and don't be rediculous" 5 minutes later another female staff came over "can't sit here table reserved for 6 " I said "so what- we are having just one drink each which frankly was extortionately over priced" My journey to the pub was from Manchester,by train,taking 90 mins. I hope for a better reception next time I'm in Chester at The Old King's Head.

Best pub grub I’ve had in ages! Fresh, home cooked, with generous portions. Veg properly cooked (i.e not mushy!) and steak pie with proper pieces of meat & not just lots of gravy & pastry! Service was friendly & quick.
