Dunham Arms in Cheshire West and Chester

We went on a Friday night and it was quiet, which suits us, but the amount of take away and pick up orders going out tells you how popular it is. We both had lovely meals and found the service to be excellent. All meals were really really good, very reasonably priced, and the timings between starters and mains was just right. It also has a bar area so you could make a bit of a night of it if you were in a group. This is our second visit and we will definitely be returning.

WOW I can't believe how disgusting the food is!! The fried rice is like soggy boiled rice with Lettuce shredded all into it...... LETTUCE!!! The chips are like the cheapest frozen chips that man could buy. The prawns are like rubber, the sweet and sour sauce is like water and isn't sweet or sour. The whole meal was bland and inedible. I had one mouthful of the rice and I spat it out before I was sick for about 5 minutes. My sauce wasn't sealed properly so it had leaked all inside the takeaway bag and my chips were sat in a pool of sauce making them soggy. Worst food I have ever had in the 37 years I have been alive, still feel sick

I ordered chicken and cashew nuts ,fried rice. It was just vegetables, half a dozen pieces of chicken and believe it or not four cashew nuts, the spare ribs were under cooked and chewey.i was very disappointed with the meal, I will definitely!!!!! not be eating from them again.

Absolutely love the food here, such a good choice there’s always too much to pick from. Been here several times now the management are welcoming and acknowledge you as friends. Highly recommend for both dining in or take away.

Opted for a Sunday night meal, on entering we were immediately greeted and shown to a nice table with expansive views of Ince Marshes. Service was excellent, brisk and attentive. The starters came out very quickly…and were delicious. The menu is very expansive covering all the Chinese options you would expect and some Thai. We went for Chinese starters and Thai mains. Both were nicely cooked but in my opinion the Thai options were more Chinese style- still good though. The room is expansive with high ceiling giving a nice feeling of space. Finally, given the good portion size, I’d say it’s really good value. If you like Asian food, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Ordered a takeaway from here tonight after seeing good reviews. We ordered a sweet and sour chicken and a beef in black bean sauce. We started to eat when we both said "this is discusting" we called up to complain and the guy on the phone said he's not heard anyone say bad things about the sweet and sour but he has about the beef in black bean. We asked for a refund as the food was not worth £30 and that we now have nothing to eat for the night. We were offered £10 off next time we will not be ordering from here ever again after this experience and will be telling everyone else to avoid like the plague too!!

This is my go-to place for Chinese takeaway. Always good food, always friendly service. Great food at great prices

Visited this place for the first time on 4 February 2024 because we had read a number of good reviews about the food. However for us it was extremely disappointing. The sunday buffet was the worse we had ever experienced. The quality of food, especially the starters, was very poor. Generally all the food was loaded with MSG to make it flavoursome. We find it expensive for what it was, especially with all the surcharge on the different meat. Drinks are pricey too. The restaurant only had a few people in and at one point we were the only customer. The only positive we can say was the one staff serving on the day, he was polite and provided a good service.

Visiting the area in between Christmas and New Year and enjoyed an extremely tasty meal in. Bit on the pricey side, just under £80 for 2 people (not set menu) but freshly cooked and delicious. Atmosphere was great for us, nice and quiet with a few other customers to give a bit of ambience. Would definatley be a regular customer, if only we lived closer.

Its been some years since we were able to eat at the Dunham Arms, however, it proved to be 'just as good as it had always been'. The appetisers were so well presented, full of flavour and really yummy. He had the Tai Green Chicken Curry with fried rice, I had the Chicken in Black bean sauce with Noodles. Outstandingly delicious. Well done Jonathon and his team you haven't changed, always the perfect host.

Food was very nice but the eat all you want menu could have been explain a little better. I have only given 3 for atmosphere as we were the only 2 in there at the time.

Can't understand any poor reviews. Staff excellent, very accommadating with car parking. Excellent stop on North Cheshire Way footpath. Food especially good in terms of taste and value. Highly recommended.

We were the only three dining at 4pm on a Wednesday, but it didn't matter. Really good food from 2 course special. Would be a really good place for a boutique hotel!

This honestly has to be one of the worst restaurants I’ve had the displeasure of visiting. The food is awful when we were given the sweet n sour chicken we waited over 10 minutes for the fried rice, by now the chicken had gone cold, when we asked about the rice we were greeted by I think the owner in the most aggressive manner and basically yelled at do we still want the rice? Well it does state on your menu the sweet n sour chicken comes with rice. This lady then went on to stand behind the till angrily staring at us for a considerable amount of time then proceeded to come over and ask us what our problem was. If you want any drinks I’d take your own as they don’t seem too bothered to get these out to you, you’ll occasionally see one of your drinks sat on the bar next to a load of drunk people for the evening. I can’t stress enough how much you should avoid this place. And if you see this don’t be replying saying this is an inaccurate account of the evening you an i both know it isn’t.

Superb Restaurant, with lovely people, and an amazing atmosphere too, I would definitely recommend this Dunham Arms Restaurant to all friends and family, a great place to go for some wonderful moments, it's amazing.

I really struggle with Chinese food usually as I have Coeliac and most takeaway places don't cater for GF customers. The owner of Dunham Arms is brilliant and I can eat most things there. I used to live in the Far East and miss really good quality Asian food. The dishes here are delicious. Very friendly staff and good atmosphere.

Sweet and sour chicken is off the scale good, you pay a couple of quid more than a chippy, but the difference is huge in quality! I personally wouldn't go anywhere else, deliver to a decent radius aswell.

My partner and I use them we want a takeaway. My favorite dishes are the Chicken Satay and their Chicken and sweetcorn soup. Really tasty... The Takeaway was exceptionally clean and covid safe.

A super friendly and helpful place that makes delicious Chinese food. They were happy to customize an order and made great suggestions to my taste. Made mine and my girlfriend's day all the more enjoyable! Pricing was what you'd expect for a Chinese takeaway. Would eat again. Very few can come as close to this quality.

Where to begin? Friendly Chinese restaurant- where perfection is the only option. Everything I've ever had there has been delicious and the best I've ever had, consistently for 3 years! Every dish is cooked well and quality is constant which is rare among Chinese restaurants these days.

My place to go on my visits when visiting my Dad. Great food, loved everything I tasted and tried as I work my way through the menu. Special favourites are sausage dinner and fish dinner, I haven't tasted ones so nice in 30 years. Crispy shredded chilli beef is my wife's favourite. Recommend them highly and the prices are good too. Thanks again!

Best Chinese takeout around. Always delivered quickly. Food is slight more expensive than you regular takeaway, but that's because its restaurant standard food. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. Great place for a pint as well. John and his family are great hosts

Love to eat in and take away. The staff is so lovely and welcoming. Been going for years now. We have multiple food issues within our household and they have no problem catering for us and we have never experienced a reaction. My 5-year-old loves the food (always sweet and sour chicken! Gluten and peanut free, with gluten-free prawn crackers). Always good food. Great service. Friendly staff.

This restaurant is absolutely brilliant. The food is extremely tasty and well presented and prepared. The menu has a lot to offer at a very good price as well. The staff is very nice and respectful. The food at this restaurant is The best Chinese food I have ever had. The meat/chicken etc are obviously fresh. The food can be tasted throughout, no MSG as far as I know. You can also taste the oils used for cooking. I have had quite a few of the meals offered both as a diner and take away. During the lockdown, all precautions were taken to ensure safety for all. If you want a great memorable meal, get one from here. The take away is ready on time too.

We had a nice Chinese meal here, the concept is a new one on me as it’s a pub/Chinese restaurant and takeaway. The food portions were good and it wasn’t at all greasy. I had the draught tiger beer and that was good also. The staff were very nice and couldn’t fault the service. We opted for the set deal and ordered some extra Singapore noodles and everything we had was tasty and filled us both up. The only thing I didn’t like was it was £2.20 for a small bowl of prawn crackers which in other places would of been free. Apart from that all the food is well priced and I would go back.

I ordered this because my friend said it was nice, It’s the worst food I have ever had from a takeaway, when we called to tell them they had no interest and told us it’s just the way we do things. Absolute joke and rude

Asked what time they were open for takeaway on saturday was told 10 I said in the morning or at night. They said at night so no good to me. Website says they open at 1pm.

Really enjoy it here, the duck pancakes come shredded for you which is great. Would like a few more Thai main meals on the takeaway menu, would love it if they introduced a massaman curry mmmmm.

We decided to try here as it had been recommended by friends. We normally get our annual Chinese New Year meal from somewhere else but, though we’d have a change. Well, we shall be sticking to our usual after last night! My husband rang the order through early on as we knew they’d be busy. It was booked to collect at 7.30pm. It was chaos when we turned up to collect. Our food wasn’t ready and people in front of us had been waiting nearly an hour! We finally got our order at 8.20pm! No compensation for having a lengthy wait or anything! We won’t be visiting again and will make sure our family and friends know how bad this place was! Such a disappointment.

We have eaten here a few times now and have always enjoyed it. Take away deliveries arrive to the same standard as eating in and are nice and hot. Delicious food and fantastic service, wouldn't order take away from anywhere else

Excellent food from here by takeaway. Food was hot and very tasty. There was enough for everyone. Ordering over the phone was simple and then wait for food to be delivered was adequate, absolutely no problems and will definitely order again x

We stopped here on the of chance that we could get a table, and luckily we could. We had the vegetarian banquet for two persons, my husband is not a veggie, but we both enjoyed the soup, mixed starter and mixed dishes x 3 with rice. Also icecream or coffee. fantastic value for money and all food was piping hot and plenty to eat. Food tasty and lovely flavours, one of the best chinese meals I have had for a long time. Service was good and very friendly. Highly recommend I wish we lived closer. If we are ever around the area we would definitely return.

I would just like to thank Jonathon and his team.We ordered a large home delivery last Friday to celebrate my son's 30th birthday (whilst socially distancing).We use the Dunham arms regularly as their food is always superb and a firm favorite with all the family - including meat eaters, vegetarians and also some fussy eaters.Our meal arrived on time, was packaged so that not only it stayed warm but also was easy to divide between 3 households and most importantly was absolutely delicious!!!!!!!!! Thank you again to Jonathan and his staff who are always very pleasant and helpful.If you haven't tried their food yet you really should!!!

Just had a great takeaway from here. Placed our order by telephone and an hour later our food was delivered. We live in Kelsall, a good 15 minute drive from the The Dunham Arms. The lady who delivered it was lovely and polite! The quality and taste of our food was just excellent; plenty of fresh vegetables, chicken and king prawns. Just great Recommend.

We decided, due to Coronavirus, to take advantage of the takeaway/delivery service. All the food arrived on time, piping hot, and utterly delicious. It tasted wonderfully fresh, unlike some Eastern takeaway meals we've had in the past, which have been too salty, too oily, or both. On reflection, this was probably the best takeaway I've ever eaten - I devoured the stir-fried king prawn with garlic, chilli and basil leaves; everyone else was similarly impressed with their choices too. We're coming back this week-end!

The specials offer great value. The Chinese menu is particularly good. The English menu less interesting. Easy parking and reasonably priced. Would gladly go again.

We have been visiting the Dunham Arms for a number of years every Thursday for a meal and stay to enjoy the Quiz . I can recommend the food which is always plentiful and very tasty . We all have a different meal and always enjoy them. Jonathan and Emily are very friendly and always attentive. Our waitress Anna can not do enough to ensure we have a good evening . Graham does a great Quiz always different And challenging, Very entertaining.Can not recommend this establishment enough

Went to this restaurant with my husband, had a set meal for 2 although we where able to change the main meal to our choice, which was excellent. The food was delicious, hot. Well presented, big shout out to the chef. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommended the Dunham arms for chinese & tai food. Just to add they have an all you can eat too Sunday to Friday. Well worth a visit.

This place serves lovely Chinese food whether you're eating in the restaurant, takeaway or delivery. All the dishes we ever order are always freshly cooked with good ingredients, piping hot and very tasty. When we've eaten in the restaurant the service has always been friendly and swift, when we've ordered takeaway with portions are always of equal quality and quantity. Went before Christmas with some friends to celebrate Christmas & a Birthday.They had pre-booked the table, just in case, however, it wasn’t very busy at all.When we arrived & were welcomed by all the staff, & shown to our table, our drinks order was taken while we perused the menu.Had it been day time, the view out of the massive windows is over the fields down towards the River Mersey, Stanlow & Ellesmere Port.We all chose our meals, all the courses we’d chosen arrived with a sensible time gap between, in order to not feel like you were eating in a hurry & being hurried out. There were a few things on the dessert menu that had sold out, which we were told about before we set our hopes on them!All of the food we’d ordered was lovely, & we’re wanting to go again on our own, the service was absolutely excellent.Highly recommend.

We ordered food tonight and it arrived in super fast time. Everyone’s meal was perfect. We had Thai green prawn curry, Sweet and Sour and Fried chicken Thai chilli. Beautiful food delivered with a smile. We are here on holiday from the Lake District and it was a perfect choice for tonight’s supper.

We were visiting the area and staying on a CL campsite close by. We were on our way back from a walk when we saw that the restaurant was open. We called in mainly for a drink. The restaurant was spotless. We had decided then to order drinks whilst we waited for our food as a takeaway. We were told that the food would be ready for us when we wanted to leave and just to let them know when we were ready. The food when we got back to our caravan was piping hot and very tasty. The portions were good sized and the quality of the food excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant. Another plus was I did not have the eternal thirst I often have after a Chinese.

Last night's take away was exceptional. We have just had the left overs heated up tonight and it tasted just as good! Fantastic service, price and quality food.

TRied it for a change from usual Sunday Roast.Gluten-free option available. Mixed platter for 4 was acceptable - but not stunning. Main courses were very good indeed

Called on spec for the sunday buffet ..starter was very poor looked like it was from a cheap supermarket and served on a large dinner plate.No presentation at all.Ribs were dry and hard as were the spring rolls.Soup was slightly better but main course tasted like a stir fry with chicken gravy granules mixed in.All in all the worst chinese ive ever had

Visited on a Wednesday evening & the place was deserted. Alarm bells rang when a friend ordered a lager & wasn’t asked whether she wanted a pint or a half but was just given a pint. Asked for a tonic water & got a pint!! At nearly £5.

Thursday 7th Feb we ordered a Chinese for my wife's birthday. No one wanted to go out so takeaway it was. The food was absolutely brilliant along with a excellent price and delivery time straight to our door. I would 100% recommend this place and we will definitely be ordering food from Dunham Arms.

Having been here a few times now I thought it time to write a review. The food here is so lovely especially the Thai food. We cannot fault anything we have had from here. The buffet is excellent value for money, my family love the starter platters and the red Thai curry is my new favourite. The staff are welcoming and attentive and the service is always quick and efficient. It’s just a shame the place never seems to be busy. We have been spreading the word all over Helsby about how lovely the food is!! We will be back again soon.

The food is a very high quality, good portion sizes and very reasonable prices. Highlights are: sui mai, honey chilli chicken, chow mein. Highly recommend this take away/restaurant

We visited having not been for a while. Whilst it was quiet the restaurant was warm and staff friendly and attentive. We had the fixed price 4 course menu which was good value for money.

There were ten of us there to celebrate my grandsons 18th birthday. He chose the venue!

We visited spontaneously on the way home from work near to Christmas and on arrival we were the only people in the place; always dubious when that happens! The menu seemed more your run of the mill Chinese than Thai so we both ordered the mixed starter, a soup and thai curries with an egg fried rice between us. Being the only people in there, service was super quick. The mixed starter was disappointing and looked like it had been bought from Iceland and the ribs had very little meat on them, but my partner said the soup was nice.

Came here with family to celebrate a birthday saturday before 16.30 buffet.great food eat as much as you want.the ONLY disappointment was the ribs which were not as good as other places we have been but never the less great food.good service.worth a visit and dont be put off by the outside.adequete parking

The worst Chinese I have ever had 8 of us went for a meal Food was reheated and cold Chose a Banquet for 6 which is normally enough for 8. Would not have been enough for 4 Over priced very poor standard.

Visited 7.30 on Saturday evening as a group of 5, having booked.

Arrived on Friday afternoon about half five so we were able to have 'the early bird' menu. This offered 3 course meal for £13:95. We had the Thai Fish Cakes & Thai chicken skewers for starters. The soups were the Thai sweet'n'sour and the Peking Hot. Then our mains were both served with the egg fried rice and we had Pork sweet'n'sour and Chicken salt n' pepper.

Avoid at all cost. The worst meal we have ever had. Me and my wife asked for the buffet as advertised but it wasn’t a buffet. It was a set course with unlimited amount . Clearly false advertising. They insist everything is cooked fresh to order but probably microwave meals . Starter the chicken was so hard on a stick it felt like I was eating the stick. Thai Soup was like dish water and smelt disgusting. My wife’s children sweetcorn soup was shocking. Looked like lumps of snot or lumps of what look lemon curd. My main meal green Thai curry was frozen microwave chicken that smelt just like my soup. Disgusting and microwave rice. The wife chicken fried rise looked and tasted a week old. All the windows in the restaurant part have clearly never been cleaned . Consveratory was full of boxes and looked like an old market stall. Beer garden with broken smashed up wooden tables. Toilets are typical smelly pub toilets. Not very clean. But Staff are friendly

when we arrived the restaurant was empty,,but it was early at lunchtime, we were shown to our seats given a menu and the order taken for our drinks,, the staff are chinese extremely polite and very helpful,, our order was given we decided on the buffet but we were waited on,, it was a fourteen pound ninetyfive pence all you can eat four course meal we had starters eg a crispy platter with dip and bbq spare rib and chicken on a stick in curry,,, then soup followed by chicken chow mein and finished off with icecream all washed down with a pint of course. would we go back oh yes it was lovely

We visited early on a Saturday evening as a small group, having booked.

Called in on Saturday night having made a last minute booking. The place was quite full and the staff very busy but we didn't have to wait to place our drink or food order. The food was really tasty and the portion sizes generous without being overpowering. There was a steady flow of new punters as soon as tables became vacant which is always a good sign. A little out the way as we live in Chester but well worth the visit

Staying away in Mickle Trafford with naught to do, and stumbled across the Dunham Arms.

Stopped in on Saturday for a impromptu pint and meal. Was given a warm and friendly welcome, followed by a lovely tasty meal. Highly recommended. Will be stopping by again. Would like to see a larger selection of ales in the future.

On my way home from Chester we stopped off with my wife, daughters, father and mother in law. The food was fresh and delicious and the friendliness of the service was excellent, would highly recommend! Going back v soon 👍🏼

Literally passing by and decided to stop and eat instead of having a takeaway . Table for two ? No problem . Can we have the buffet (almost 4 o'clock ) ? Certainly . Superb service and great quality food , and at a very reasonable price . In fact , can't think of a valid criticism . The place is well worth a visit .
