Visited while on holiday in Sidcup for Dinner and drinks. Absolutely couldn’t beat the value with great meal deals on offer for Dinner and Lunch. Josh our server was super friendly and helpful. Food was excellent very tasty. Extensive drinks menu and a fabulous beer garden with childrens play area.

Had a really great night with friends playing rock and roll bingo was so much fun and winking great prizes! The staff were great one guy Dan I think his name was, was singing and dancing all night long whilst pouring drinks. The staff here are absolutely amazing and this is a great way to bring the community together. Jennifer was also great playing along with us and pouring drinks all day.Such a great night and a lovely atmosphere Great staff

One of the waiters, I think his name is Alex, has served me and my pals a few times, and each time it’s been so lovely. He’s so conversational and really made me n my pals feel very at home. The pub has such a comfortable atmosphere and it’s the best place in sidcup/eltham to have a few drinks with pals and hang out. Shoutout again to Alex ( he was wearing an Italian football top I think) and his hospitality, you make my nights here so great! Xoxo

I had the quickest, nicest service by the best and most wonderful manager Cian. Could not be more impressed.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat and drinks after finishing our degree with friends. Nothing was too much hassle for the staff drinks came out super fast and food was nice and hot and looked amazing! So cheap especially with the student discount and the app is so much better to sit back and relax waiting for your drink instead of getting up every 10 minutes.

Chilled environment, cracking manager (Cian is a legendary manager) great entertainment and proper pub!

I was served by the most amazing person called cian. He brought all our drinks us straight away with no fuss! Love that for us!! :)

Amazing size garden for all to enjoy, great use of the Greene King App made our visit that much better, allowed us to sit and enjoy the sun knowing our drinks were on the way, will be back

Me and my family came here for my brother’s 18th birthday. It was a comedy of errors that became a bit of a laughing stock at the end of the evening. I arrived later than everyone else to discover the car park was so small so I had to park elsewhere. My mum had already had problems ordering drinks, there was no tia maria in stock at the bar, she then ordered a porn star martini but got given a woowoo instead. She sent it back to the bar but the manager wouldn’t replace it and she had to pay for the unwanted drink. The so called ‘great’ app was appalling to use, it was slow, seemed like most of the food was out of stock (for a friday night this seems unacceptable) and when you order something if it becomes out of stock no-one comes to tell you so you end up chasing the staff up on something that isn’t coming at all! My boyfriend tried to order a chicken sub sandwich which didn’t turn up so then he had to get sides later than everyone else had eaten. I wanted the halloumi sub but was told that was out of stock but we ordered halloumi as a side When the food arrived we had to ask for cutlery & condiments as they didn’t come with the food. We also didn’t get sachets of pepper or napkins. The ladies toilet only had one cubicle working so that was annoying. This was our first visit and it will definetely be our last! Abismul place!

Lovely service and really kind staff, saw our student passes and without us asking gave us student discount cards with advice on how to use it and suggestions to keep it sustainable and not need lots more cards. Dan especially and the manager were both really lovely and attentive.

Been to this pub a few times now and every single time the food has been terrible. Roast - terrible. Wings - terrible. Hair in my food. Didn’t even bother complaining because the staff don’t seem to care in any way shape or form. Chef needs sacking. Customer service non existent as are the personalities of the staff. Apart from one or two.

Amazing afternoon at Ye Olde Black Horse. Nelson and his team couldn’t do enough for us. The food was excellent and all the COVID safety measures in place. Can’t recommend this place enough. Fabulous overhaul of the garden lots of room so that everyone can be kept safe. Thank you Nelson and your fabulous team we will be returning very soon.

I’ve been drinking here for 11 years and since the pubs re opened in July. They have now got the best bar staff.

Popped in here for a few beers after lockdown. We sat in the beer garden and it was a nice hot day. We had a few beers and they was really nice in the sun.

Staying in the area for a short while, we have visited 3 times and have been very impressed. Very friendly and efficient staff, in particular Owen and Karl. Would really recommend a visit.

Absolutely amazing table service from Cian, what a great Barman!!! Extremely attentive and offered us suggestions from the menu and extras to add to our meal! Pub followed all COVID rules exactly as the government guidelines stated online. Absolutely fantastic pub with great atmosphere and amazing staff I would highly recommend!

I love coming here after a long day of uni and the atmosphere is always amazing! The food is great and the staff are always amazing especially Owen who’s always a great laugh! I will be coming here as long as I can!

Had a meal here today 5 of us staff were welcoming and attentive, they abided by covid rules. The service was good and the food was very nice and cooked fine would recommend this as a decent place to eat.

Popped in the other day for lunch, was a nice chilled vibe. Clear covid precautions and lots of hand sanitiser around. Friendly staff and an app that you can order from and not have to leave the table! Will Deffo be coming back <3

Made the most of Eat out to Help Out. Excellent service from the manager, the male member of staff who was on the door (he was fab), the female behind the bar and poppy and becky (servers). Nothing was too much trouble, the food was fantastic and the pub is very covid secure. Attention needs to paid to the toilets as they were a little messy. Highly recommend with fantastic food. Look forward to returning soon.

I have been making regular visits during August, and was served by Poppy and Becky on separate occasions. Both girls are personable, professional and provide excellent customer service. They always can manage a warm smile despite the recent heat wave which was unbearable for most of us. Still enjoying the garden whilst I can. Well done to the team, best pub staff in the area.

I do not usually leave reviews but after a recent visit here for a special family lunch (10 people) I felt compelled to write a review.Our whole experience from start to finish was excellent ! The customer service was fantastic. We were greeted on arrival and directed to our table in the garden which was ideal. We were given all the information before we sat down about ordering, how many people could use the toilets at one time etc to comply with regulations (every member of staff was wearing the appropriate protective equipment). Even that manager came out to greet us. The food was excellent and our waiter (Owen) was attentive to anything we needed.As a local resident I am only gutted that I didn’t realise such a little gem was on my door step. We will be making a trip back again soon and I would highly recommend anyone looking at old ‘bad reviews’ try this place now it is under new management.

Visited on Wednesday night for a bite to eat and ended up staying all night. The staff were brilliant &amp; couldn't do enough for us.Big shout out to WILL &amp; EOIN who were hilarious. Great banter!They helped us move tables (twice!) , were very quick with bringing our orders and, when we mentioned we maybe needed to book for another night for a birthday, had this all sorted within minutes.Great pub, great prices &amp; all aided with great staff

Visited again yesterday after the long closure due to Covid and I'm happy to say that the service and quality of the food and drink has remained as special as it was before the lock down. Always a pleasure seeing Nelson and his team, I was well looked after despite the kitchen staff and bar staff being run off their feet, from opening till closing time I hear, they still provided service with a smile. Along side the service itself the pub has done the needful and does all it can to mitigate the risks of covid19 with a one way system, one door entry and another door exit, alongside screens and plenty of antibac hand wash. We decided to give the pub another visit after not going for a couple of years. Nelson is very welcoming, explaining the new plans in place for social distancing and the Green King App which we found brilliant to use. Who doesn't want to not have to move and have their drinks brought to their table! Both times recently we have been served by Will, lovely guy always friendly and very helpful, in fact all the new staff are great (this is one of the best areas of improvement at the pub). We will definitely be back.

This pub is in a perfect location especially after food shopping, handy for a quick stop off, pub has a lot of character but needs revamping/refreshing asap - considering we have been in lock down i would have expected the pub to be extra clean and freshly painted. Sadly in its current state it is un-inviting. On the plus side the staff and assistant manager are friendly, helpful and inviting, although the decor does not help staff to welcome new customers, if they don't get the backup from the current landlords this pub will fail let alone improve. Has the potential to be a more welcoming pub attracting a variety of different aged people.

We have only recently moved to the area and this is an ideal little local for us at only 10 mins walk away! The pub has a fab garden space - its massive and has lots of tables. There is even a little playground for the children. The pub itself is in need of a modern face lift but its not the worst i have been to. There is not a lot of tables inside so wonder how a busy evening would look. My only may concern would be the cold tap in the ladies toilet as its literally hanging off and doesn't work which is defiantly an issue! (the hot tap works but is boiling and i burnt my hands). All the staff was working very hard when we was there on Saturday &amp; super friendly to talk to. We used the app a few times (due to social distancing not laziness) and was impressed with how quickly the orders arrived. The food is very well priced and is ideal for a quick lunch/dinner before drinking. Will defiantly be visiting again soon!

Been to my local today with my friend and her children and grandchild. We had a table reserved by Will and we could not have been happier. It’s so nice to see nelson and he’s team back. My son had home made nuggets and chips which looked lovely and I had a chickpea, sweet potatoe and spinach curry...very nice...the Landlord and staff are friendly and cater to a mixed crowd due to the proximity of a stage school, not your regular rub a dub...

I can’t commend this pub more for its turn around. Thanks to Nelson, Cian and the multiple staff now running the pub they have created an atmosphere of fun and relaxing drinks. This coupled with the huge garden and lovely yet competent staff has turned a beer in the sun into an all round brilliant experience. Can’t wait to come back! If you get a chance definelty visit because for bang for buck your not going to find anything better in sidcup 10/10

Pub hasn’t changed much on the inside; but the outside has with new furniture; and Gin Bar outside at weekends. Needs a few issues ironed out with toilets and being brought up to date on the inside; but thats not the fault of the manager or bar staff. Everyone is making a huge effort to make this a warm and friendly place. And I can see that’s beginning to pay off reading the below comments. Keep it up guys and girls. It’s not going unnoticed. And hopefully Greene King will give you all; as well as the building; the gratitude and respect you all deserve. Can see this place taking off one day. Hopefully it starts with the smile everyone is showing now. Good work to the whole team.

This Pub is a really good friendly place to visit, with famil, friends, colleagues or on your own, everyone is made to feel so welcome and looked after so well by Nelson and his amazing team, each one of them have always got a smile on their face! The food is to die for it may only be pub food but the presentation, taste and quality is just amazing every time I’ve been, I’ve always complimented the staff, the chef that works during the week is always so happy and will always have a chat. All the staff go the extra mile for every single customer, ensuring a great time is had by all. The only downfall is how outdated the pub is, it’s in need of a refurb!! I’ve always seen Nelson and his staff getting hands on, painting, getting new benches for the best pub garden I’ve ever been to! They have so much pride in the pub and try and do everything they can to make it look appealing with the little work they can do, painting, adding new decorations just to try and make it look a little better! I wish the Greene King would invest in this pub ASAP as it would be an absolute gold mine and probably be the best pub in the area around! It’s not often you get a great beer garden like this one, and an investment and entire refurb would make so much more money for the pub and Greene King! Nelson and the team should be so proud! I hope they get the recognition they deserve for all they’re hard work and efforts in all aspects! They make all customers feel comfortable and are very attentive! They clearly care about this pub otherwise why would I walk past and see the fence and windows being painted when surely Greene King could put some money for an investment and make the staff even prouder! Really great pub and team can’t recommend this pub enough!

I'm local student and this is my regular pub. Love the 10% student card that I can use here! Always a welcoming atmosphere and my friends and I feel comfortable here. Honestly one of the best pubs ive been in for a while.

I am a regular at this venue. Always has been a welcoming pub. Since lockdown I have returned and the measures in place are spot on. All social distancing is adhered to. The ordering app works well. The manager Nelson is welcoming and has time for all of his customers. The staff are always friendly and make you feel welcome. I would definitely recommend “The Old Black” as a place to eat, meet, drink and socialise.

Since the lockdown lifted I have been frequenting the pub. The management style is perfect. Everything has been done to protect the customer, whilst being as accomdating and friendly as possible. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the garden, with it's brand new benches and umbrellas is perfect for a pint in the sun, albeit in the shade of the umbrella. The Guinness is good (my drink) which leaves me wondering why anyone wouldnt want to visit (I walk about a mile). There are too many other pubs / micro breweries that fall short in Sidcup, you do not feel valued as a customer, and you are spoken to like a child a lot. As for Ye Olde Black Black Horse, it gets the balance right, all of the time. I would recommend you pay it a visit.

My new favourite local! My mates and I come here a lot and the staff and service are impeccable! It’s such a lovely place and from the management down you feel safe and are allowed to enjoy your experience and their new COVID policies are really efficient. I’d recommend this pub to everyone looking for a lovely meal and a couple of drinks.

Popped here for a few drinks one Sunday night just before lockdown after visiting on and off over the years. I like the pub as it is still very traditional and it still has that local feel. The service was good and the beers were good too, definitely worth a visit

My name is Heather and I am a carer for two disabled boys. I come into this Pub at least once a week with them and I cannot fault them for their hospitality and general welcomeness towards us. When we are they I feel as if they go above and beyond, as they always bring the food out in excellent condition and now they even know what they order, as we go there so much. When we do order our food they are polite and always talk to the boys. Their Mum has occasionally come with us or has brought them with only herself, so the boys have introduced her to the staff at the Pub and she was in awe over how well they are looked after by them there, which gives a family feel. Overall I give them a five out of five star review, as I can not recommend them enough, they are: kind, polite and care about offering there customers with excellent service. This is the place that they always want to go to, which has to mean something?

This pub is a complete joke, popped in after work with work mates one had a cap on 3-30pm they refused to serve him expecting him to stand there with messy hair... so we all left and spent our money elsewhere

After coming to this pub a few times a year over the last 3 years, I noticed this summer the manager had changed. He was not particular friendly but as I frequent this pub very little I didn’t think much of it. However, I should point out that over this summer the 3 out of 4 times I ordered food the kitchen was not working. Yet no apologies from management When he was scoffing a burger in the garden! And I probably should mention him looking down his nose at anyone with children, although, his 11 year old daughter is playing with them! -anyhow Due to a change of circumstances me and a friend decided to use the pub for dinner on a Wednesday with the kids, although they have a kids menu, they are nothing but kid friendly (as I saw in the summer!) this week, as last week I was there from 3.45-6.10 both times told to leave the premises as our children were playing in the garden even though they were under our supervision! According to the wife of the manager not enough! - they were the only 3 children out there for 20 mins and we were there the whole time!! She then proceeded to tell me we would be barred and then got on her phone and spoke a different language for 10 minutes, I feel like she was trying to intimidate us! As a police officer , I do not take this type of intimidation lightly and I feel like it is my duty to mark this pub as a non-friendly establishment and actually aggressive! I will be telling everyone I know about my experience as this is not the 1st I felt wronged by management. I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt but they have had theirs and folded!

The Staff here were excellent and were always helpful and cheerful.There was live football on the TV's (muted in dining area) which was just right as there was a seperate area with a larger screen and volume for the sports fans.Good menu and excellent value but could do with a bit more choice for plant based diet.The food was very tasty and served promptly.Nice relaxed atmosphere, nice experience and would reccommend.

Cian is the best server ever we love him. Always has a smile on his face and welcomes us. Would love to see the pub have some better music though.

We called up on Friday to ask if England v NZ was on at 9am. They said we'll definitely be open. We turn up at 8.55, completely shut. Very poor

Popped in to try the Sunday Roast. We were served by Katie who has a very bubbly personality and served us very efficiently and ensured we had everything we wanted. We had 1 beef and 1 chicken roast and at £10 for the 2 meals (only on Sunday) it was a pretty good price. The food was served hot and freshly prepared, unlike some places that just keep food hot. It was a filling meal and Katie came over with a smile to make sure everything was alright. The IPA was very nice, sadly we were in a rush otherwise I would have been tempted to have a few more. A very pleasant experience all round.

Careless bar assistance, rude and horrible “manager”, it’s sad to see such a nice and happy place going downhill so much...I live locally and used to come very often, with the kids playing in the pub garden, now it’s just an horrible place with amazingly loud music and unfriendly people.

A good space but had to keep an eye on the garden gate to make sure my grandson didn't go into the car park.

We visited this pub a couple of times at the start of July 2019 whilst spending a few days in Sidcup. We were here as a family with two young children so the beer garden and childrens play area was the reason why we visited.

how is this place still open? its filthy and has not been decorated since my last visit in 1988. oh yes a test paint by dart board, obviously got bored and gave up! waited 8 minutes to get a drink, didn't have any real ales i.e bitter, what pub in the uk doesn't have Bitter? most of the menu wasnt available and what we did order was a 4/10 at best.

I can’t believe a baby changing table has been added in the worst gents toilets in Kent. I wouldn’t wee in there let alone change my child!!

Wont be rushing back ever . The mens toilets are the worst toilets I personally have ever been in . They stink and are absolutely filthy . I have owned bars and reataurans myself so I know what there up against but they are horrific . Its the place you wipe your feet on the way out .shame because a lack of pubs in the area is noticeable but would rather stay in than visit again . Given this place so many chances to impress and it never does . Under new ownership i think so they need to sort things out . Phoned to ask if they were showing a particular Millwall game , my answer was yes but if it gets rowdy it would be off ... the last owner wouldnt even show any millwall games !!! How rude considering most of there customers were probably millwall supporters . Then there is the food !! Cheap and chearful it is what it is .. but if you need a wee go home.

Very average pub but garden is great for summer / dogs, we all entered our regs into the tablets provided and all three cars in the group have got tickets! ridiculous!! We wouldn’t of parked there if we knew we would of got a ticket or we would of paid. But specifically thought this would be ok.... as we put in our registrations... absolute joke really. Will not be returning now.

Always a great night here. Staff are friendly and go the extra mile. Always looked after. Food is top notch. Read many reviews on here slatting this place but I can say with absolute certainty that they are completely false. Wasn’t willing to sit with hat hair? Didn’t like getting asking to take your hat off? Don’t like karaoke? Pffft. My review of their reviews is 1 out of 5 star, for false accusations. Has the highest rating for hygiene and beer cellar so people comparing the toilets to their worry over the kitchen....

Do not trust the parking system, I entered my details twice as it did not go through the first time & still got a ticket. The landlord has no control over the car park as it would have cost him money to control it. So basically there is no come back if you get a ticket.

For anyone who has had to use the old french “stand up toilets” of yesterday year, they will make you feel a sense of luxury once you visit the men’s toilets in this pub!! If you like the smell of urine, if you like paddling in urine, these are the toilets for you!! Don’t even think of trying a no 2...

Has the most Amazing service; extremely friendly staff towards the customers especially Ben and Katie. They’ve been extremely friendly and have always brought a smile to every customer they’ve served throughout their shifts. Would highly recommend this pub to anyone.

We went to the pub for my daughters birthday. We wanted a table reserved and we had 2. We were very lucky and the manager on the night was Ben. He handled it with care and catered for all our needs.

Popped in after work with 4 work mates and got told to take baseball cap off?? It’s a working class pub not a trendy wine bar, was not prepared to sit there with cap hair so we all left and spent a few hundred at the iron horse...shame...if for security purposes just ask the customer to look at the cctv for a few secs to get a clean image and let the customer get on with his night....poor show

Lets start with the positives - beer is good - Greene King. You can get a cheap pint here. Food is good also. Staff are excellent - very friendly and you do not wait long to be served. So what's wrong? Well the rubbish mock Tudor décor inside for a starter. Why the pool table? Take it out and put in more seats. Also appalling karaoke/ music at the weekends. Finally when I last went in there were around eight toddlers running amok - a pub is not a safe or suitable place for small children. G K must try harder - this could be a five star pub.

My wife and I decided to take her aunt for lunch to celebrate her 90th birthday. When we asked her what restaurant she would like she told us the Back Horse because it was somewhere she used to go to with her late husband. Needless to say, having read the reviews we tried to persuade her that she might prefer another venue. She was not convinced and so we went to the Black Horse. My wife and I were very pleasantly surprised. The food was typical pub fare. My wife's aunt and I had fish and chips while my wife had ham, egg and chips. The food was well presented, warm, tasty and not at all greasy. The fish tasted fresh and the slices of ham lean and substantial. The desserts were also delicious, especially the apple pie which had a generous apple filling with thin well-cooked pastry. The service was excellent and the cost of the meal (special offer for 'seniors') at £4.99 for two courses proved to be outstanding value.

Came in with some friends and was warmly invited to join the quiz by Clifford! Fabulous night, great staff on the bar and the pub was warm and cosy. Will definitely come again.

I popped in one afternoon for a quiet drink and was warmly greeted by Charlotte and Jenny. Both were very friendly and efficient and took time out to ask how I was . I will definitely be coming back.

Visited last night as was passing and more than a little hungry. Pub was quite busy but service was fast and friendly.

The beer garden is just disgusting and i no longer take my childreb here as the piles of fag butts and litter put me off.

Remember when you last bought a ticket for a World Cup sweepstake. The draw is made and you know your team from the beginning. You and your mates can then share in the excitement of following your teams' progress throughout the tournament. But not at the Black Horse. You won't know your team until the day of the final. Why? because the manager ( mistakenly) thinks he will make more money that way. What a way to run a pub !

A pub with a very large beer garden perfect for a summer drink. Have drank here many times and it has a good open atmosphere. Very reasonable food served throughout the day, good quality and many options to choose.
