Extremely over rated and ridiculously overpriced, 7 pounds for microwaved waffle, that was terrible, and most mains are terrible and 17+ pounds, would recommend you literally eat anything else

9 of us went for a meal, it was spoilt by a girl on a table behind us who had a small puppy on her lap, we think she was something to do with the pub, all the staff were coming over to stroke the dog and making a fuss and then go to serve drinks and going into the kitchen and bring out food, none behind the bar washed there hands so do not know whether the others did, then this girl with the dog was vaping in the pub, we queried this with a waiter and she said that's all right we said that one of our party had asthma so they asked not to do it, there seems to be a lot of young people working in there with no adult supervision.

Late afternoon visit after a shopping trip, very friendly staff, decided on snacks, hummus and pitta bread and mozzarella garlic bread - both delicious and plenty. Charming atmosphere, price as you would expect in Rye. After we had been here a while a large group came in and the bartender came up to check we were ok and didn’t need anything else, excellent service.

Towards the end of our 2nd/3rd drink we were asked to move table as there was a reservation on our table (no sign had been put down and we'd been there a while). Firstly, it turned out the reservation was in nearly an hours' time. Surely we could've been left to finish up then move/leave? Secondly, by the time we'd been to the toilet before heading out (about 2 mins after being asked to move), the table had been offered to a group who had just come in (who the reservation was not for). So what was the point? Not the best, really, is it. Shame as food was nice and we had otherwise been well served. But this is basic stuff

Food was spot on! Delicious. Best olives I've ever tasted. Personally I can't stand sauce and when asked not to have it with my burger it was done. Also the salad with the starter wasn't drenched in venergarete which seems to be the fashion over the last 20 years and glad to see it starting to die off. Its a pub not a fancy restaurant and the food is what you expect from a pub but! It is some of the best pub grub I've had

Lovely old pub in central location. Mid-November is rather quiet, so it wasn't too busy. The menu was a little bit limited but I think that's quite normal in all pubs in Rye at this time of year (off-peak). I had the halloumi and veg burger with fries which was tasty and nicely presented. Attentive staff and overall nice and friendly.

The food and drink are decent enough and there is an authentic feel to the place. Unfortunately the food we wanted was unavailable so we decided on second option. They lose a star because of the abandonment of service. Asked by waiter if he could get us any sauces and we asked for ketchup and mayo. Sat waiting until our food went cold before deciding to proceed without as we could only assume waiter had quit his job and gone home. Eventually barmaid asked if food was ok so we explained no ketchup or mayo and no more waiter so off she went. Just in time for final mouthfuls ketchup arrives but no mayo. Oh well.

Me and my 3 friends recently travelled down from new york to explore many areas of england. last night we ended up in rye and decided to dine and the old bell (on the 19th of august) as we noticed it was the oldest pub going in the area we were in. the bar staff were brilliant and the young boy who served us was very polite about our requests and even went and got us pizza boxes to take our pizza’s home. this was a surprise to us and he looked at the age of 15-16 yet he was super polite and was so helpful despite how busy it was both the bar service and the waiter service were exceptional and made it our best food experience in england yet!

Avoid go to “Standard” instead. Rude, unhelpful, refused to provide table or menus. We arrived early evening before the crowds and there were many unoccupied tables inside with no reserved signs on them. Staff was uninterested in helping us. Would not give us an inside table. Told us to go,out on patio if we wanted to find a table. Did not follow us or help us in any way. After finding and sitting at a patio table for 5 minutes and breathing a neighboring tables cigarette smoke no one came to give us a menu or greet us. Worst restaurant experience of our 18 meals in England this trip.
