Came for my birthday with my partner and elderly mother. Had the chicken pie and scampi. Whilst my mother said the scampi was ok the chicken pie was absolutely disgusting and frozen in the middle. I also had the chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream. Unfortunately the tart was inedible and the ice cream was what appeared to have been refrozen and crystallised. Not a great meal out particularly for the price of £70. I didn’t want to cause a fuss because my mother has dementia and gets very upset when there are problems surrounding her. Should do better!

The taste of the food was spot on BUT it would help if the food runners would actually deliver the food to the table after it’s been cooked - arrived Luke warm. Also would be nice if the bar staff weren’t on their phones chatting amongst themselves ignoring people at the bar. Think needing new staff.

What can I say very disappointed the service was terrible waited an hour for food had to ask four times for vinegar and to top it was charged 10% service charge It was an extra 24 pounds ridiculous. we were surprised to be sat at a table that was actually not sticky due to it not being wiped over. We were served by Greg, a very nice, polite chap. The food was very good and also served by Greg. While we waited for our food to arrive Greg cleared a table that had just been vacated and then he cleaned it. It was good to sit at a table that was not sticky as we had done in several places that we stopped at for coffee on our way to where we stayed.

Lovely pub in the village of Sedlescombe. Generous and well presented portions. Opted for the bread with oil for starter and then the double cheeseburger for main aka The Queens Burger. My wife and I I just went here for a drink after work as it was a beautiful evening. It is the epitome of an English country pub, so old, but cosy, nice pub garden and very well kept too. However, I was staggered at the price we paid for a pint, a glass of white WINE, a packet of nuts and packet of scratchings, £19.70! I have since learnt from friends and family that the price we paid is about normal for these days! It just means that, in future, we shall be drinking at home on the balcony!

Well, where to even start...this used to be a lovely village pub under the last landlord. A great atmosphere with great food. People would come from far away to enjoy a nice quaint pub. Unfortunately, this can't be said anymore, and much of the local "rif raf" has found its way back in!!! On a Friday evening in particular, the crowd is abismal! Young adults everywhere running in and out...swearing and smoking outside in the garden! This isn't an establishment like it used to be. It seems very much as though the manager can't manage these crowds, and they're extremely off putting, and don't make it a welcoming pub at all! There’s CCTV all over the bar now, which I think says it all! The queens head has had trouble before and I can see this happening once again. What a shame for such a lovely place.

This pub is on a downward spiral, when James and Ginny had it, it was a hub for both locals and visitors alike, lots of atmosphere and you were always made welcome. How things change in a short space of time. Living in the village we used to support and go 2-3 times every week, spending between £200-£300. When the new owners took over we hoped to continue. You have to give them a chance as no one likes change. The previous comments are right, the food is not up to standard, always running out, the drinks are well over priced, £10.20 for a glass of wine, i have said before you wouldn't pay that in a first class restaurant. The new clientele are rude, loud, shouting and swearing, running back and forth from the garden. James, used to control all of this but the new owners are happy to let it go. I've picked up many empty cans of beer thrown the other side of the wall. I do hope for the owners sake that beer is not being brought in. Things need to change otherwise there will not be a pub in the village and that will be a great shame.

This spot used to be a lovely pub with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Went for drinks around the festive period and it was like a club. Someone took the odd decision to blare music from the speakers, which didn't do a lot for the ambience - I remember exchanging a few painful smiles with a couple at the nearby table, who also didn't seem to appreciate the noise. I wonder if the music was to drown out the customers. Since the new management took over there's a new clientelle that seem to have taken to yelling, singing, running about and generally acting like entitled idiots. While this obviously isn't everyone who enters the pub, it's a common trend that's been prevalent every time I've gone in since new people took over (I've visited 4 times). It seems a shame that the management would rather let this slip than act as management - they instead stand back awkwardly and watch with a nervous smile. It's a real shame and it makes me not want to go back to a pub I used to really enjoy. It is great that the place is still going strong under new people and making plenty of money. They clearly won't lose out by losing my custom, nor would I think I matter enough to make any difference. But I wanted to explain why I've taken the decision to never go back. I wish them the best for the future.

Visited not long back whilst in the area visiting friends. Lovely Aesthetic but the service is somewhat lacking unfortunately. Ordered a pint of guiness and the manager Greg was very rude and just seemed adamant on rushing everyone through, couldn’t even enjoy my pint, wasn’t a very relaxing atmosphere which was not ideal as after travelling all day from Yorkshire I was quite looking forward to a relaxing catch-up with friends.. And calling last orders from 10:20 was just silly Will not be in a rush to return again, which is a shame because as I mentioned the pub itself looks lovely.

I have been a regular at the Queens Head for nearly sixty years, not anymore. Just over six months ago the lease was taken over by new tenants. Since then it has gone from what was a very friendly pub run by James Wheatley, to a very unfriendly, and very expensive place. They have recently decided to start shutting early in the evenings, Monday to Thursdays, so we decided to go on a Friday evening. What a big mistake that was. The person who calls himself General Manager named Greg was ' in charge' He has the personality of a brick, no good evening welcome or greeting whatsoever, he just stood behind the bar waiting for an order. We had gone on the Friday as said, because we expected to be able to order until last orders at 10.50 pm as we have done for many years, no luck there, come 10.25 we were told that last orders were being called. We ordered a round, but what I was served very nearly made me sick on the spot. No idea what it was, and absolutely no appology from Greg, only said he didn't have what I had ordered because it had all gone. He offered to get more in stock if I wanted, but in view of the fact I will not be going back there I declined the offer, and also voiced my opinion of his lack of people skills, he just stood there with a completely blank expression. Having read previous comments I cannot help but notice the owners replies to some, that they will take on board criticisms made. They have had over six months to do so, but things have just gone from bad to awful. If you want a pub that is freezing cold, with Gregs personality at a similar temp', and overpriced drinks, then please go there.

I rarely write reviews that are not positive but I could not believe that my roast Chicken could be so bad. It was like British pubs were in the 1950's. The gravy was a watery mess and did not smell nice. The chicken was a breast, the vegetables were either overcooked or undercooked and the Yorkshire pudding was soggy. So disappointing as this pub used to serve very good food. The new publicans really need to look at improving things before it goes back to having a poor reputation, as it had in the past. The pub and location are wonderful, so please get the food inline with this.

The food was OK but not outstanding, it was also expensive, compared to other pubs in the area. The menu stated that a 10% "discretionary service charge" would be added to the bill! I suspect that like most businesses times are tough due to the legacy of Covid and current difficulties in recruiting staff. But times are hard for many customers too. Tipping in pubs in this country has always been discretionary, and has been a way for a customer to show appreciation for outstanding service if the customer feels they want to, but the choice, including the amount, is theirs. OK customers can exercise their discretion and not pay it, but by introducing this practice the owners are in effect morally blackmailing customers into paying more than the stated menu price when they don't feel it is justified. They may feel embarrassed to query it when they don't have to, or be out with others, and don't want to make a scene. It leaves a bad taste. Because of the rapidly rising cost of living, we, like many of our friends, are going out to restaurants and pubs far less frequently than we used to, and are are less inclined to support establishments who are indulging in this rather unsavoury practice, choosing establishments who "play fair"with their customers, where it's our free choice whether we tip or not, without the moral pressure imposed.

During my recent visit to Seddlescombe, I had the pleasure of discovering The Queen's Head, and I must say it exceeded all my expectations. Nestled in the heart of this picturesque village, The Queen's Head is the epitome of a charming English pub, offering a...

Having enjoyed previous visits today we were extremely dissapointed. The menu in the bar was different to the latest one that is online on Facebook. We came for a birthday meal and was looking forward to a steak enjoyed previously and as per the menu...

Called into the pub on Bank holiday Monday, after having an amazing day out in Tunbridge Wells. On locating the pub, what an idyllic setting exactly what you want from a country pub. SADLY on entry the usual "East Sussex" welcome a very gruff and grumpy looking land lord, I joked that as all the taps stated "Sold out" that "How does a pub sell out of beer" and the curt reply was "The customers have bought it all and we are closing shortly" ask a silly question......!! While trying to engage in a jovial conversation, the current landlord (who is shortly leaving we found out from other customers) stated that only 1 cider was available and stout which my partner doesn't drink...they did however have a selection of wines, soft drinks and spirits...none of which were offered. The greeting was Gruff, no smile, no engagement and basically wanted us to leave , we had planned to have a bite to eat but the "welcome " put us off... I understand that a new landlord is due to take over, so we will give them another chance...if you are reading this, an you know a decent place to eat (any where in east Sussex) and drink who are friendly and want to welcome customers please let us Know. In the 6 years I have lived here, it's the "welcome" which lets hospitality businesses down. Try a bit harder....a smile doesn't cost anything.

A very nice local pub. Amazing old building, with local art on the walls that you can buy. Some good Sussex ales and the food is tasty. The chips are especially good!

Increased food and drink prices are now unaffordable. Having just a beer is not encouraged as a sole drinker. Dinong table requirement takes precedence.

Only stopped for one drink but what a lovely pub and garden. A good amount of parking. The interior was old wood floors and beams and took me back years with fond memories of times past. Lovely. A huge garden area, accessible from the bar by quite a few steps. There may be other access points? The sun was shining and it was perfect. Two roads run by the side of the pub but any noise was only minor from both. Food is served but I didn't have any on this occasion. Service was with a smile and felt genuinely warm. If, in the area again, I would love to return. Would recommend, at the very least, a quick visit while passing or a longer one if in the area on a visit or holiday.

Cracking meal. Soufflé, soup, and chip combo was a particular hit with one of our ramblers.

This restaurant was empty apart from us on a Saturday evening, could be the 70s decor thats putting off a lot of customers.

I've read a few not quite so favourable reviews recently - you can only report as you find, I understand that- so I thought I'd add this one from this evening. Four of us enjoyed a relaxing meal, at reasonable cost (ok, the desserts might be a smidge expensive, but they were nice); main courses of steak and kidney pud (which my friend thought was the best she had probably ever eaten out), giant haddock and chips, which really was pretty sizeable and lovely, Moroccan stew -very tasty with good sides, and belly pork (with which the mustard mash was a highlight) were well cooked and enjoyed by all. A new barrel of Harveys Best had just been tapped, and wine by the glass was good value and quality. Service was exemplary (yes, the pub wasn't that busy, but that doesn't always mean good service). We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - both members of front-of-house staff who looked after us (one apparently being very new) were delightful, and added to our enjoyment.

To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.
