Lovely food, lovely atmosphere, we will be back

Nice barman n good music for our age group 60 t 65. Quite empty though so no atmosphere

Lovely pub, dog friendly and fab priced booze!

My wife and I entered this establishment this evening (20/08/2024) we approached the bar and had to wait as there were no staff behind. To be fair, the place was empty. We asked politely if they served food, to which we were met with an abrupt “Nope!” We said thank you left. As we were at the door, we heard the barman mock us to the only customers in the building. No wonder they had no customers if this is the attitude towards them. We won’t be back, even if they choose to serve food in future. PS we had a lovely in the local Harvester and bought many drinks. Yates missed out But we didn’t.

Looks like a great bar but unfortunately when we went only a dozen people in but guess it's probably busier on a weekend and also only 1 bar staff and no menus on tables found quite strange for a Yates.

Wet pub no food served here, quite a few people walking out because of this.

Nice place for a drink and go watch sports that they have in multiple screens. Shame they gave stopped all food now so if you want anything to eat you will have to bring your own, this they allow which is good I guess. Drinks are ok but can cost a bit, think a pint of coke zero was £3 which is a lot for a drink these days and cheaper elsewhere. Lots of places to sit I always loved when they used to do the wrestling nights playing on the large screens for the live events from 1am til 4am, was always a great atmosphere but don't think they offer this anymore

Unfortunately Yates no longer does food, which is a shame as it used to be our favourite place to eat in Torquay. However, they do allow you to bring food in from any of the local takeaways which means you can actually have a pretty decent meal. TV screens are everywhere meaning you always have a view of whatever sport is on, I managed to catch the F1. Staff here are fantastic and the drinks are great!

As with any craft union pub there was no food,but you are allowed to buy food and eat it there. Loved that you can sit outside and watch the world go buy. Live music was great.

Went here to watch England game, great atmosphere, Fantastic security staff kept the rowdy idiots under control u always get the odd few, good size pub great staff good selection of drinks highly reccomend

Bar staff helpfully and friendly, The door staff on rhe other hand was rude and refused a disabled person entry on a Friday night quoting health and safety as she could get knocked over. Ruined our day and night, very upsetting we went next door to the Apple and Parrot and was let in the doormen evan opened the door for us.

I was turned away at the door last night by the security guard because I am disabled, I was made to feel so small and embarrassed. How rude can people be? I’ll be reporting this!

Be careful when the football is on, they are very busy, they over charged me for drinks, when I complained they said they had refunded me then asked me to pay again so not only did I get over charged I got charged twice, I made a big fuss, showed them my credit card statement on phone, asked them to give me a receipt for refund but several members of bar staff just start saying I have to wait for the refund to show on my account, big tall guy served me then female manager intervened, they know most people are just on holiday so won't be back in there to show the refund was never given I enjoyed the atmosphere in there and would have been back but not when they rip you off like this

Great reasonable priced pub good atmosphere very friendly staff made our stay in Torquay very pleasurable. Go here if you want a decent drink or meal at a fair price. (update) since last year this has been taken over by a new brewery (craft Union). I can honestly say it is still a amazing bar the staff are very friendly and even JASON (barman) had a photo with our traveling alpacas. It's a very relaxed environment and calm I will point out that they no longer serve food but do allow outside food in. It is worth a visit and we enjoy it every time we pop in. :)

Great place for a sunday. Bar staff excellent ,Reece is a credit to the place. Dj with happy smiley vibes.Quiz which was such fun.

Prob good job you're closing for a few weeks, I know it's a takeover and refurb, but maybe think about changing the staff too, ones an idiot and miserable and the other is miserable and rude as F. Better stock knowledge would be great too👍 also heard food is stopping, won't be long before you go out of business then.

Had a horrible visit here last week ignored at the bar dispute beginning the only person at the bar I don’t know what was more important under the bar than the person stood waiting a horsele

Great food, served straight away and food came out in about 10 minutes. Served by Dave at the bar who is efficient and friendly then Jess who asked if everything was ok, cleared the table once finished and very friendly

Bartender (Sam Imandy) was very helpful and had amazing customer service skills and gave my girlfriend a free shot for her birthday was a nice gesture, overall lovely experience would definitely come back

Music is just a tad loud for this old geezer. But I have to say that the service is awesome. Good food at a reasonable price.

Classic Yates. All you could ever hope for. Our bar tenders, Jamie and Ed ensured we were well hydrated. Recommend us to the latest offers and their Easter specials. Mikey was the chief on duty and fed us the classic Yates food.

Had a 50% off voucher which we were nervous about using as instructions in e-mail weren't super clear. Jamie & Rhys made it a breeze! Super welcoming and super helpful. And food was all great - thanks to Chef Jason.

The place was grear including the service. Jason and Jamie were really helpful abd friendly.

We came in here wanting a Bloody Mary because we'd tried everywhere in Torquay and no one had any tomato juice! Whilst they couldn't make a Bloody Mary the bartender Jamie recommended his favourite cocktail to us and it was delicious!

Shame you can't make up your own breakfast or order sides as a separate plate. Meant only 3 out the 6 of us ate so you're missing out on money. What we did order was very good 👍

Ate here Friday top notch came back Sunday asked about the mixed grill was told he would check for me sat for like 20 minutes waiting for him to get back to me. Was not busy enough to justify the wait. So left.

The bar was very busy when we arrived but we were served quickly. I got my free birthday drinks - thank you! The food was great and we didn't have to wait long. A great job by Jamie,Dave and Mikey on keeping everything running well on a busy night.

6 of us 3 beers and 3 coffees beers good waited 20 mins for coffee's, then two more beers and 1 cider because we waited so long for the coffees then told they was out of cider vacant look on barmans face then he said shall i get the barrel changed , yes please 15mins later barrel changed but not coming through so sadly had my money back , to be fair the cellar is up 3 flights of stairs . What a f--king joke

Yates is an amazing pub to go too! We didn't eat just had drinks, danced and really enjoyed the night! Sam served us for pretty much all of the evening and we must say he's amazing! Very attentive, very polite the most goes on! He definitely deserves to win a prize! Absolute 5star service and pub! Thanks Sam :-) xxx

Attended during day on 3rd Feb 2024. Female manager behind bar very rude to staff and customers. Poor staff looked petrified - what a horrible place it must be to work 😡 and not the best to socialise in such an atmosphere.

I've lived in Torquay for 2 years & Yates is by far my favourite pub mainly because the staff are so friendly & accommodating. Mandy & her colleagues always serve quickly with a smile & with so many screens it's by far the best place to watch sports & drink beer at a reasonable price compared to many other bars in the area.

All good. Jess, Archie and Jay did a fantastic job. Atmosphere wasn't the best because of the rugby being, put a real sport on.

Called in for a beer this afternoon it was quite due to the time of year i suspect Jamie was very polite and friendly with myself and the others who were in there. My dog was especially grateful as he brought a bowl of water and a couple of treats over. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Came for a trip from London, popped into the Yates Bar a few times over this weekend ! Great bar with food which we had plus atmosphere, the manager was friendly and remembered us on each visit. The staff were knowledgeable when asked about other local businesses!!

It was quiet when we went midweek so can't say much for the atmosphere. but we went over Christmas and they had a Xmas party for children that was very good. The staff were friendly.

Food took ages. When it arrived my wife had to return hers as the fish was stone cold. Under staffed and staff that were here couldn't even raise a smile.. will not be back. Appalling

What kind of restaurant has no steak on a Friday night , no communication between staff we had to reorder food and I had to tell the manager they had no steak to serve us after we paid for it, I would not eat here again

Well unfortunately never got to try the food. I attempted to have a late lunch here with two freinds, one of which suffers from aspergers and can somtimes look abit dishevelled. unfortunately things went down hill rather quickly. We had been waiting approximately 30 minutes for food and our friend decided to go outdoors for a cigarette, as he returned we heard shouted "where are you going? not up there! get out!" at this point my other friend ask who this person was talking too. The Woman then came upstairs to our table and to my astonishment instead of apologising for her actions, as mistakes can happen. she attemped to justify her discrimination of a disabled person, at this point I lost my appetite. So we ended up at the downstairs bar, things were getting abit heated she refused to give her name and details of the incident and the complaints procedures of the parent company. She left another bar man to issue a refund, unfortunately they did not refund the drinks which were only half consumed, i found that abit disappointing. Now as she failed to identify herself and provide any of the complaints procedure my freind started to film, so he is able to identify the person to higher level management of the company to try to resolve the issue. At this point she assaulted my friend and attempted to snatch his phone from him. We then left and I shan't return to a business that allows the discrimination of those who are less abled and ill-equipped to handle these situations. I understand that they may be having issues with less fortunate people coming into the pub during the cold winter months, but to treat somone with disabilities in such a rude and Callus manner and refuse to apologise for her mistake is simply unacceptable.

Had a great visit here - all the staff were lovely but Izzy in particular was super helpful, friendly, and was very accommodating. The food was nice and the service was quick. The general atmosphere was also cosy and welcoming. Will be coming again:)
