Greeted by who we thought was an owner, who's 1st comments to us was, oh your a buy a, gift stay. As if it should make a difference how or who paid for it. The reception area and bar area where the best parts of this, hotel, the, staff in bar area, were very nice but thats where it all ends! The hallways stank of wet dog, thin corridors of old fashioned doors, there was a pile of dirty sheets left by the lift the whole time we were there. The room was absolutely revolting! The window glass was filled with water, heating that didn't work, the bathroom was a health hazard, with a shower panel that didn't fit correctly causing water to leak all over the floor. The bathroom was in need of updating badly. Furniture in bedroom was dated, and mattresses felt like they were 20 years old. The carpets in the bedroom looked absolutely filthy and stank of wet dogs, and in need of a, deep clean. Didn't even attempt to use the kettle. This hotel is aimed at coach party's and if you are not part of one its felt like you were treated differently. Avoid at all costs!! We will not be returning.

Booked via booking.com booked room that stated bath and walk in shower. Room only had a shower got moved to another room that had a shower over the bath. Hot water was an issue, heating was an issue. Couldn't use the TV without signing up for services. Hot tub facilities was not good, couple in their then another straight away wasn't cleaned in-between yet they charge extra for this. Breakfast was atrocious. Wouldn't go back would rather go to the trecarn

Sunday carvery lunch. The carvery was good value at £10 but there was only a choice of two meats which were already carved. A reasonable range of vegetables. Deserts, of which there was a choice of 3 plus ice-cream, were £5. Tap water was help yourself rather than a jug on the table. We were part of a large prebooked group and it would have been nice if tables had been pushed together so we could talk to others in the group. We were a couple of a table for 4 but several tables were for 2. However it was a pleasant ovcasion overall.

We had 2 rooms what we booked on booking. The hotel is nothing like on the pictures. The whole place stinks and dirty. Having a refurb is understatement. The shower was probably was blocked as the water was going down really hard. The breakfast was allright. Had better but worst too. Salt and black papper makes different. It’s could be a good hotel but this is just awful. Mould and dust in the rooms. Staff was nice.

We have walked past here many times when in St.Marychurch area but never called in. However today we decided to drop in for a coffee and sit in the garden as it was a pleasant day. Reasonable ok hotel, not to far to drive into Torquay itself and it has a nice beer garden and carpark. Really nice home made pizzas. Receptionist who seems to do a bit of everything such as bar and reception is nice and friendly. Breakfast staff need to smile more and be friendlier. Room had broken toilet seat, noticeable dirty toilet under rim, low water pressure and room far too hot (window doesn't stay open fully). Breakfast - porridge was foul, it's made with water and not milk, no taste, far too runny. Cooked breakfast- eggs on first morning were like rubber, sausages are cheap tasteless ones, beans again were really cheap tasteless ones. Yoghurts- cheap tasteless. Overall breakfast was disgusting, we also heard others moaning about it aswell - better quality food could be supplied for the amount of money it costs to stay.

Came here this morning for the breakfast that is open for non residents. What a fantastic deal at only £5 each. A great choice of quality well cooked food. Buffet style so all you can eat. Free parking and helpful staff. Booking is essential as it does get busy We arrived at 9 and not too busy then but within 15 minutes there was a quee at the buffet bar. Fresh hot food and clean plates and cutlery brought out on a regular basis. Thoroughly reccomend. Called in again and prices have gone up but still very good value. I went to the anchorage hotel on a package holiday it was a disgrace we got there the food was cold all the time they didn’t have a microwave to warm your food and you were limited on your food to two slices of pork and they had no potatoes only roasted potatoes and they were rock hard. The bedroom carpet was dirty with stains splashes up the wall and the bed we had to keep pushing the bed in at the side and on the Saturday we were awake til two am in the morning as they had a wedding party in so no not again would we go there again.

My Nan recently stopped here as part of her Christmas week away with her club. She was treated awfully. The service was terrible, rooms were unclean with ripped and dirty, and the food was horrendous. She was served pollock 3 nights in a row. The xmas dinner was processed turkey like what you have on a sandwich. They served sprout soup, then cauliflower and cabbage soup and then on the other night a mix of all 3. As you can imagine non were nice at all. Their complaints fell on deaf ears and the manager wore a dirty, untucked t-shirt and couldn't have cared less. Awful service, and food. Not a nice way to treat elderly people in their 70s, 80s and 90s.

This place is, let's say...tired. It suffers from much needed investment with a food offer only fit for a 1970s pub. Breakfast in all fairness wasn't too bad. However, the evening menu is very basic with very little choice other than chips. Nothing modern? No pasta, no chicken, no beef, no potatoes, and only a vegetarian friendly curry offering rice. With some thought and imagination, it could be good. The rooms are pretty small and sparse and are in desperate need of modernising (and cleaning better). Its only saving grace is its location. Please stop catering for the ' Turkey and Tinsel' brigade. They're a dying breed, and younger older people have moved on. There's lots of young families out there that crave something a lot better. If you're not too careful, the Anchorage will end up like many other Torquay hotels...flats or old peoples homes!

I think we were given the worst room in the hotel. When entering this building, it smells really bad, a mixture of mould and very old. The room was very smelly, we kept the windows open and bought candles. Saw people with incense sticks. The beds were very old, and my husband slept on a mouldy bed base that moved constantly and was very uncomfortable. The room smelt of pee, the carpet is very dirty, window and courtains mouldy, furniture very dirty. The sheets were clean, except for a blood stain that wasn't cleaned. The toilet is not clean. I don't think it was cleaned. I bought a disinfectant to clean it, but the seat was very stained. The shower didn't work properly, half the water running in the bath. I will never come back here again.

I can't say enough good things about the Anchorage Hotel. It's in a lovely area and everything is only a few minutes walk away. The Hotel it's self is lovely to, good value for money and the bed was so comfy I didn't want to get out of it. The staff are very helpful and polite and go the extra mile for you. I had some trouble with the Trecarn Hotel and I couldn't stay there, so I needed somewhere to stay fast and the Anchorage Hotel went out of there way to help me. There was no rooms left, but they went out of their way and managed to sort something out and squeeze me in. The lady who helped me was amazing. We booked in our Community Group for an afternoon cream tea. We had kept in touch with the hotel regularly over 4 weeks re: guest numbers and dietary choices. 35 of us arrived but unfortunately, we experienced the most amateur service and poor attitude from the get-go. No tables had been prepared or reserved for us and my husband and I had to quickly move around quite a number of tables and chairs ourselves to arrange the group setting. The manager, who seemed totally non-plussed when we arrived, claimed to be the only one on reception as well as the chef! He blamed it on his wife and also seemed dismissive of us as a 'small group' who could sort ourselves out wherever we wanted to sit. Since when has 35 people been a small group visiting a hotel? This was not the best start to an event we had all been looking forward to. However, it got worse. The service to table was abysmal. The 'chef' aka the manager sent out the scones halved, cold and plastered with clotted cream with a small drizzle of raspberry jam - there was no strawberry jam. Many of us were surprised there were no separate cream and jam pots on the table to prepare our scones to taste, as is the norm. We just had to accept what was presented. The scones were not particularly good quality, possibly shop-bought. Looking at other cream tea photos on this site, the manager did not have clue. Pots of tea were brought to the table about 5 minutes after the scones with no cups, saucers or spoons having been laid up by the waiting staff and pots of hot water had to be requested. No apologies were offered. We will not be returning to this hotel again. A very poor experience.

We arrived at the hotel on Friday afternoon, greeted by a receptionist, who gave our room to someone else with the same name, it was quickly resolved,. The room was a twin room 6, was small, scuffs on the walls, carpet was dirty, drawers where the same, when i pulled the covers back on my bed there was a large yellow stain 🤢 Went to recpetion and the housekeeper came and cleaned our room, which still wasn't the cleanest when we returned later but it was liveable for 3 nights. The fan in the bathroom was also annoying a contast buzzing and when someone had a shower upstairs, our shower would drip and the pipes made noise. The staff however where lovely and easy to approach. The food needs some improving when i booked the trip i told the coach company i am GF, never had any problems in the past but they said the coach company never told them? The food was a small amount, not many options, i had a cheese omlette and roast potatoes Sun night, which was sadly cold and the roast potatoes where hard. My mum had apple crumble and custard Sat night, custard was like water, i thought we could get some Devon custard 😂 The breakfast was better, although it could do with more options for someone like me who was left just having hash browns, beans and egg all weekend, maybe they could add some fruit and yogurt options as i wanted something small. Entertainment was great, enjoyed the women singing and the quiz was good. All in all, was a nice break away, just a few changes would boost the score.

I came here for a baby shower and I have never come across such rude staff in my life. They didn’t have plain scones, who offers a cream tea but not the option of different scones? Not everyone likes raisins and dried fruit scones. Those scones look like rocks and clearly supermarket bought. I then asked for cake instead, but wouldn’t be paying for the cream tea because I didn’t have that and I was met with a rude waiter who rolled his eyes and shook his head at his colleague and chastised “urgh just give it to them”. Disgusting way to treat your guests. Absolutely zero hospitality. Comes time to pay, and the female server had no idea how to charge me for the cake, at this point I had had enough and just wanted to leave. So paid £5 for a piece of dry cake, wish I hadn’t bothered. I will NEVER come back, nor will I ever recommend this place.

Came to the property to check in , went straight to our room , when we entered the room , first thing we noticed was that the room was tinny hardly any space between the bed and wall , outdated and dirty room , there was a strong musty damp smell. the sheets and pillow cases were disgusting and looked like they hadn’t be Change or cleaned , dirty stains and hairs all over the pillow cases, floor was dirty not even attempted to be cleaned , found a dirty used cotton bud on the floor proving the room hadn’t even been cleaned from the last guest or maybe even the guest before that. Paint was peeling off the bathroom wall. pictures added for people to see , manager on duty didn’t seem to care or didn’t even give an apology , and said we can’t check rooms every day which is a ridiculous excuse , the room wouldn’t even be fit for a dog let alone humans , we had to pay to stay somewhere else as we were told we couldn’t have another room as none were available , as we had traveled a long way to stay , would not recommend this place to anyone

We upgraded to a superior room, which was lovely. The only downside to our stay was that the breakfast was open to the general public, which, due to its popularity, can make the dining room very chaotic, with everyone trying to get coffee's juices and cook breakfast all in one corner. Located around a mile from torquay High Street about a 25-minute brisk walk downhill. But we had a lovely stay and the staff are very friendly.

Buffet Breakfast -------------------------- People can quarrel about what is the best, or most authentic, or prettiest restaurant in Babbacombe but there is no doubt that the buffet breakfast here is the best value. Five pounds for all you can eat with a selection of all the protein, veg. and carb components on the menu of a conventional breakfast cafe, plus juice, coffee, tea, etc. Little wonder it is full every day. Since it is a buffet I gave service 5 stars (although I did not tip myself). The Anchorage was taken over by a new husband and wife team in the last two years (Google should delete older reviews as they mislead readers) and they are on a long-term renovation project. The main dining room, where the breakfast is held, is becoming a handsome location. May their endeavors continue. However, the stunning price cannot, if only because of inflation. Highly recommended, and open early in case this is the day that you drive back to London.

Wonderful hotel with polite and helpful staff. We have stayed here 7 times now and always rebook when we visit Torquay. Staff were also very accommodating when I was pregnant and with our son on our most recent visit. If you're just in the area they do a great breakfast, serve wonderful coffees, cakes, pastries and lovely cream teas.

Fantastic breakfast, all you can eat for £5. Great selection of hot and cold food, traditional fry up, cereals including home made porridge, pastries and fruit. Tea, fresh coffee and fruit juices. Highly recommended. Better value than weatherspoons. Staff were really friendly and gave great service.

We came here for breakfast 21/01/23 paid for the all you can eat brekkie which was a fiver. I had a bowl of muesli with a glass of apple juice, then had two slices of toast with marmalade cup of fresh bean coffee and another glass of apple juice. Then we had the fry up, I'm not gonna lie it wasn't the best fry up but there is no way I could complain about it considering the cost and what we'd managed to pack away. I had to go home and nurse a food baby. The staff were lovely and constantly on the move clearing tables and replenishing the drinks station . Definitely a strong 7 out of 10 and will likely return 😁

Dark inside, steps up to inside. Outdoor seating, packed in summer months.

A large size pub, sports type bar. Good atmosphere, polite lady serving behind the bar. I couldn’t rate the food, as they had a notice on the entrance door, saying they weren’t serving food, I don’t know if this now is a permanent situation. I had a pint of Cruzcampo lager at £4-50 a pint, excellent value for the money.

Excellent coffee and service. Please commend the staff for their care and service to an elderly customer. They were always caring and considerate. It was a joy to visit whilst i was on holiday in Torquay.
