Yarn in Nottingham

This place is always busy when there are events on at the Theatre Royal or the Royal Concert Hall. Service is slow, and sometimes you feel invisible as the bar staff are not aware of who is next to be served and serve the person right in front of them. If it was not for the fact that it is the bar for both places, I would not attend.

Ridiculously priced wine. I paid £9.85 for a large glass of red. After the gig I went to Wetherspoons and paid £5.50! Outrageous.

Popped in here whilst continuing to wait for family to finish at the Theatre Royal, under which this bar is located. It's a nice, smart little place, with drinks that aren't as extortionate as you'd expect in a bar I the heart of a city, in a theatre no less. It was quiet when I was in, and so felt much more relaxed than I'd imagine it does pre-show when it is heaving with theatre-goers. The lady behind the bar was very nice and talkative, which is increasingly rare these days, so that was nice. She served me my drink and I took what looked like the comfiest seat in the house. I was wrong. I do t think I've ever sat on a seat so thoroughly beaten up and misshapen. It was horrendous. The few other people in the bar were sat seemingly very comfortably, and so I guess I got unlucky. The chair is a minor gripe. What is a larger gripe is the fact that this bar is entirely cashless. A hateful notion. I'd have scored this place higher if they hadn't turned their back on a legitimate form of payment and sacrificed equity on the altar of 'progress.'

I wasn't really at Yarn, it's just the way Google tracks you. I was next door at The Royal Centre to see Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets. And a great night it was!

Customer service isn’t a standard at this place. Walked to the bar, ordered a round of drinks which was clearly too much for the bar staff as both rolled their eyes at each other. When we asked for a cider we stated no ice and their reply “good, because we don’t have any!” Then we wanted to pay by cash we were told only correct change. Why even take cash if you don’t have change. Bartenders then went on to tell us, “not their decision, comes from the top, if you don’t like it take it further” we didn’t even mention anything about being unhappy about taking cash and simply paid on card. One bartender then decided to go to the end of the bar and roll a cigarette whilst watching and old man struggle to get through the front door. When he managed to get in, the staff didn’t even greet them or smile. I couldn’t believe the lack of service in this place. That’s not to mention the state of the chairs that had a throw over them to hide the stains and springs poking through the cushions. Avoid this place before the theatre, go across the road.

Great location for pre theatre concert drinks. Drink selection is good and reasonably priced. Atmosphere is good and plenty of seating considering type of location. For a pre-concert venue you would have thought that the staff would be trained in managing a queue at the bar efficiently and have an awareness of who is next or if not ask "who's next please". However, they just seem to serve the next person directly in front of them. When I challenged this a young man who was possibly supervising the bar advised me that they were doing their best and asked me to keep my voice down when challenging them. This is especially rude and frustrating as I didn't raise my voice and was polite. Somewhat soured my nice pint of Prahva.

Not what I expected under the theatre.. if you like your ales it's a good place to be, but disappointed there was no Guinness.. I mean who doesn't serve Guinness on this day and age?

Very pleasant meeting place, for pre Theatre drinks, or catching up with friends enjoying a coffee.

This place is supposed to be open until 9 pm, according to the sign on the door. In fact they close at 8:30. How disappointing and misleading. We won’t make that mistake again.

Popped in only for a pint of Pravha. It's delicious lager. Had to do some phone calls so grabbed my pint and sat outside in the garden. After an hour came back for one more. Wow totally packed inside with people. Earlier only few tables were occupied. Generally I was positively impressed with atmosphere. Definitely will come back.

Nice and clean, situated between Theatre Royal and the Concert hall I feel it has no atmosphere that says you're within the theatre.

Okay bar and drink selection good but food menu very limited. They used to do bacon baps and sausage baps which were lovely but not since reopening after COVID. I used to go for lunch regularly but now only go for a quick drink before theatre shows

8 hot chocolates £22 Tried to order in advance got told they don't pre order Came to half time ordering the drinks got moan at by the staff that's gonna take a while....... Drinks arrived all different strengths of chocolate all on the weak side. Captive audience easy money Will bring a flask next time

Very poor disappointing start to our visit to the theatre. Really let's TRCH down and dispite it's location I would recommend walking across the road and finding an alternative place for pre theatre food or drinks. Customer service poor, food choice non existent, drinks overpriced & cold, very cold. Cold due to external door getting stuck open

I would love to review the food. However I booked two days in advance and when we turned up on Friday night they had no record of our booking, and all tables were occupied. Communication between the booking desk and the bar/restaurant is non existent it seems. Won’t be trying that again. TGI Fridays was a delicious alternative

Managed to get a seat and a drink before a show. It became quite busy as you'd expect as the show got near. Prices were good and toilets nearby.

Always an excellent choice of beer on hand pump or craft from Castle Rock or Nottinghams smaller but just as good breweries. It can get busy before a show but it's never a problem. It is still a nice place for a pint, varied craft ales and tasty snacks. Upstairs there is a terrace and few tables outside.

A great location for a pre-show pint, however the food and service (not by all the staff, I must add) were both terrible. We really like Castle Rock as a whole so this was really disappointing! We ordered 3 small plates (which they somehow charged £16.95 for). ‘Small’ is not an exaggeration. Halloumi fries - 6 tiny, burnt, shrivelled bits of halloumi which tasted more of charcoal than they did cheese. They were supposed to come with a mint and sriracha dip which never arrived, so I had to go to the bar and ask for some kind of sauce to rehydrate the halloumi. The woman behind the bar reluctantly passed me some sauce slopped into/all over the side of a ramekin. Beetroot arancini - I have nothing to say about this other than don’t order it. Soggy rice, no breadcrumbed outer, very under seasoned. Loaded nachos - Granted, with this one we were slightly awkward in asking for no chilli (con carne) as we’re vegetarian, however I didn’t think this would be too much of an issue, and if anything would save them money/food? When the bowl arrived, I was surprised to see plain tortilla chips with just few bits of grated cheese sprinkled on top. I mentioned that we asked for the nachos without the chilli but they’ve also taken away the salsa, guacamole and sour cream. The woman came back from the kitchen and basically said it was my fault because it had been put through the till as just plain nachos (we were still charged the same price and we definitely didn’t order plain nachos). We eventually got the 3 aforementioned dips thrown (literally) onto the nachos. The other person we were with ordered a pizza. The dough was undercooked and stodgy. The tomato base was wazzy, thin and barely covered the slices. The cheese was about 3 pizzas worth of cheese and almost thicker than the bread. Very different to any other Castle Rock pub. Most of the younger staff were really nice and friendly. Unfortunately, the woman that served us food had a bit of an attitude problem.

Great service friendly staff and a really clean place to sit and drink, it's situated at the theatre royal so it does have 15- 20 minute rush on if there's an interval from a show, but still worth a visit.

We didn't like it. £10.80p for a pint of bitter and small prosecco. Bar staff very matter of fact. Hardly any choice on the menu.

Unfortunately they put bar menus on the tables and when you ask for something they haven't got it. Seems they need to improve on the food side of things, it's not like they are busy on a Friday. The bar lady was a little blunt and unfriendly, and probably needs to do a course in how to talk to customers.

Staff here are always really helpful, even when there’s a busy theatre rush. Last week with about 20mins to go before the show they managed to cook us a fresh pizza in time. Lovely pizza too!

Popped in for a drink and and some food. Cider was lovely but the vegetable pizza I had, was mainly covered in hard butternut squash and had no taste. Was missing onions and mushrooms. Was not worth the money.

Great, good whisky, served quickly, alongside the entrance of the theatre royal, or in fact the entrance, if you arrive late as I did.

After a car pulled out in front of us on the way into town ...we were then ignored at the bar in yarn (six people served before us) as we waited patiently!!! Even though it’s world book week .... should have left my invisibility cloak at home it seems ...

Good beer range as a Castle Rock venue. Open to all so not just a theatre bar.

Good beers. Nice ambience but gets a bit hectic on concert/theatre night. Staff friendly enough. Nice for a quiet drink and snack during the day when you can watch the world whizz by from a comfy chair.

A vast improvement over the last time I was here. Seems that this place has been taken by Yarn, and thank god. Good food, great range of real ales, gins and nice wine. I would definitely go here again if attending another performance.

Este es un encantador bar y una gran adición al Royal Centre / Theatre Royal. Excelente selección de cervezas para elegir, aunque la selección de vinos es muy limitada y cara.Hemos tenido una bebida aquí varias veces siendo grandes fans de Castle Rock. Esta vez decidimos almorzar ya que el menú se veía muy atractivo. Debo decir que nos sentimos bastante decepcionados con la fuente para compartir de Ploughman. Realmente no valía la pena el dinero y era realmente pequeño para dos personas.Nos quedaremos con una pinta en el futuro y comeremos en otro lugar.

This was one of these "where will we go?" moments while we were standing outside Yarn. When we went in it was empty and we couldn't figure out why. The menu was perfect the ambience couldn't have been better and the drink was available! WE then realised that it had only just turned 12.00! it soon filled up and became quite busy and deservedly so.

Ubicado en el hermoso teatro, este fue un excelente bar de cerveza artesanal en el que visitamos a mi hermano gemelo Stephen y yo, deambulando por esta parte de la ciudad y qué gran descubrimiento.Entrando y sabía que disfrutaría de mi visita aquí, un interior fresco y luminoso, una decoración y muebles agradables que incluyen un largo bar para servir y un montón de opciones de asientos repartidas por todo este bar, es solo un lugar fresco para relajarse.Estuvimos aquí el domingo por la noche, recibimos una calurosa bienvenida por parte de un miembro del personal muy agradable que nos sirvió una cerveza cada uno, optamos por tomar una cerveza IPA cada una, que se servían en excelentes condiciones, con frío y chispas, simplemente nos relajamos y Tomamos el gran bar en el que estábamos.Mi IPA era absolutamente deliciosa, una cerveza rica y con mucho cuerpo llena de sabor, muy fácil de beber, un estilo de cerveza que realmente disfruté, mi hermano gemelo también le dio el visto bueno a su cerveza.Realmente disfrutamos nuestras cervezas IPA aquí antes de continuar y por primera vez nos quedamos muy impresionados con Yarn.El hilo es fácil de ubicar en South Sherwood Street.Un gran bar, vale la pena echarle un vistazo si estás en la zona.

Busy but no proper cups for coffee, was offered paper. Didn't see anyone drinking alcohol out of a disposable cup...

Had a very average lunch. Wouldn't recommend.

Lovely place to go before a concert or a show.

Good range of beer and, for a while. a popular place for myself and friends to go to, especially being so close to the buses home. Unfortunately, recently, the music has been too intrusive. As Castle Rock generally don't have music in pubs it's annoying. It seems that the staff probably put it on for their own entertainment but we haven't been for a while due to that and probably won't until that is sorted.

Amazing Sunday roast well worth a try. Very tasty indeed. I love the bar as it’s incredibly friendly staff and clean bar. There Sausage rolls are to die for .

Have been to the Yarn many times sometimes going to the theatre sometimes just for a drink normally it has been okay.

Nice, cozy bar, ideal pre and post theatre. Drinks were reasonably priced and a good selection of craft beer and food.

Stopped off here for light refreshments before going to our show. Absolutely lovely place, very clean with a modern industria kind of look to it.

Yarn has a lovely atmosphere and some of the nicest bar staff around. I discovered the excellent Vedett beers here too upon their suggestion and have enjoyed the establishment before and after attending the Theatre every time I have been (twice this month.)

Couldn’t fault it . Perfect venue for a celebration or meal or just a drink. Great selection of Beers, Spirits served by very friendly and Professional staff.

It is situated within the Royal Theatre, so it is easy for Theatre-goers to just pop by and get their meal after that. Perhaps this explains the complacency. The food quality is average but the price ain’t exactly cheap. A staff who I communicated to also couldn’t be bothered and seemed like he will rather be elsewhere. I don’t drink, no can’t comment on the alcohol, but in terms of pub food, you can do better just by walking down to the old market square.

We ordered 2 Greek salad + drinks and a pizza for my daughter. The salad came without feta cheese and had to be sent back. A lemonade was bought and my wife was given soda water under the excuse that the barrel was being changed. The salad was a large £8.95 but it appeared to be a small £4 95. They must have used a single tomato each and a sliver of onion the rest was leaves. My daughter however appeared to enjoy her pizza which in contrast had plenty of tomatoes although the base seemed thin to me. When I complained the waiter looked like a bull dog chewing a wasp. Very poor

Good place to call in for drinks and/or food prior to any theatre or concert hall performance. Situated in the heart of the city easily accessible by foot or public transport. Walking distance from a number of car parks. Good range of drinks available from real ales and gins to cocktails and hot drinks. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Drinks can be ordered for the interval pus snacks/food. Very stylish décor. Can visit if not attending the theatre. Worth a try.

Walked in to this place to grab a pint of real ale and some food before the theatre and had a great pint and some fantastic tapas. We will definitely be coming here again as the staff were really friendly as well

If you like your ale real don't bother. Elsie No was clearly not up to scratch but told by the bar staff that there was nothing wrong with it. They will give Castle Rock brewery a bad name. You heard it here.

Very relaxed atmosphere good choice of food and beer and wine. Friendly staff all with smiles. Our food was good and reasonably priced portion size good. Will definitely return for another visit

First time visit as going to see War Horse matinee performance first impressions that this was just a bar and food was a second thought hardly any menus on the tables no numbers on the tables to help identify and no condiments chef appeared to be on his own with bar staff serving food when they felt like it and food remained on the pass waiting to be served and losing heat totally disorganised next time when visiting theatre will go elsewhere
