French Living in Nottingham

Food OK but nothing special.Service was very poor. We waited for about 30 mins for starter to be served and then an another 30mins plus for main course to be served and at first it was not what we ordered.

Beautiful food, and very efficient friendly service. The food was cooked perfectly and we had a really nice meal. This was our first visit and it certainly won’t be the last.

Excellent. Don't miss the tarte tatin.

This is a delightful destination for anyone who enjoys authentic rustic French food, washed down with good quality house wines. I would argue that much of the best food is basically simple and this rule works extremely well here. The atmosphere matched the food and the service was unfussy, professional and friendly. If I lived locally I would be a regular here.

I am very reluctant to share my outstanding experience of French Living, for fear that it will become even more popular! This authentic French restaurant is our go-to for pre-theatre dinner in Nottingham; the location is perfect for the Theatre Royal and Concert Hall. The service is friendly, the menu has something for everyone, and our choices were delicious. We look forward to our next visit.

We had again a very nice lunch. The artichoke cake was a delight!

Great spot for a pre-theatre meal

Wonderful food and friendly service in this cosy, quiet restaurant. As not mat-eaters, we focused on the fishy dishes, with highlights the gilletes de poisson, the medley of three fish and the tuna. All served with beautifully cooked seasonal veg and delicious sauces. Merci bien!

Great food and a very French atmosphere. Had the snails followed by Venison both cooked to perfection and very popular I’m told although not surprised. House wine very good as well. A gem of restaurant in the heart of the city.

We had a lovely authentic French lunch before going to the theatre. Would definitely recommend the Vegetarian Tartifilette! Scrumptious!

We always book here when we are attending the theatre and have never been disappointed. This latest visit no exception the fish of the day was superb. 6pm and the place was buzzing so make sure you book !

We have been coming here for over 20 years, this is the first time we were disappointed. The restaurant was really cold, several people sat with their coats on. Disappointed with charcuterie - very dry. We waited for our main course for nearly an hour, had to rush it as we were going to the theatre. Such a disappointment sadly.

We did point out that both the scallop starters were overly vinegary, apparently the chef agreed also with us. It would have be a nice touch to have received some recognition that 2 out of the 4 starters weren't as they should have been. Other than that, a lovely friendly independent restaurant in the heart of Nottingham.

Very tasty food, excellent and friendly service and a welcoming environment. I prefer having a table menu rather than having to study a blackboard. A small point but can be an irritant.

Comida previa al concierto que elegimos aquí basado en las recomendaciones de trip advisor. En general, la opinión fue decepcionante. Pan servido sin nada más, sin aceites ni mantequilla. Menú de dos platos elegido con ravioles de venado que no era genial. Muy poco venado y 3 raviolis pequeños con pasta demasiado espesa o no lo suficientemente cocida. Era de goma en consistencia. Mi plato tenía 3 chips obvios (no la variedad de comida) así que, ¿por qué estás usando estos? La parte principal del pescado en la bisquería de mariscos era sabroso con salmón y un pescado blanco. ¡Servido con un rosti suave seco y una cuchara de puré, puerro rallado en salsa y un poco de ensalada de tomate! El ribeye estaba bueno, pero no cocinado como se ordenó (bajo). Tenía buenas papas fritas para acompañar y una cuchara de puré. El vino está en copas muy pequeñas cuestionando las medidas. El ambiente y el personal eran buenos, sin embargo, no nos preguntaron si la comida estaba bien en cualquier momento de la reserva. Esperaba algo mejor para ser honesto. No me apresuraré a regresar debido a muchas otras opciones en las inmediaciones.

Bien presentada la comida deliciosa, servida por personal atento y amable, un absoluto ganador. La crema crujiente fue una de las mejores que he comido.

Brillante - la comida era excelente y el personal encantador y el ambiente auténtico. A diferencia de las cadenas que te dan un poco más en un restaurante independiente y realmente parecía importar al personal que todo estaba en el lugar. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo y será una oportunidad - a antes del teatro en el futuro

A little bit of France in Nottingham! Food delicious, all freshly prepared. Portion sizes spot on. Very drinkable house wine available by the glass or carafe. Menu du jour and a la carte. Coffee good and service on point and unfussy. Will certainly visit again.

Amazing place! The staff is very friendly and polite! I loved the French atmosphere and the whole set-up. The food is the best in town, cooked from scratch and very fresh! Great value for money! This was my second time visiting and I will be back again!

The salad was underwhelming. The main dish was fine, but could have been better.

This was my first experience of visiting French Living and it was delicious and authentic French cooking, lovely atmosphere and good service! I don't know why I've never been before but i know I'll definitely be going again (and again)! 😋

Unpretentious and with a real feel of a French bistro, serving tasty food and with friendly staff.

Very nice restaurant, tasty food and a nice atmosphere. Staff were very polite however we felt we were not treated the same as other customers. We ordered steak and were not asked how we wanted our steak cooked and only realised when they asked the people next to us. We were then served two steaks cooked differently (medium and medium-rear). We also weren’t given the correct cutlery twice, while people around us were (no spork for escargot and no steak knifes). As young people who are paying the same amount as everyone else, it just felt like we weren’t as ‘special’ as the other customers. We arn’t sure if it was purely by accident these incidents. Overall we had a lovely meal and the restaurant was a really beautiful space. Everyone was very friendly and we really enjoyed our meal.

It’s always pleasant experience in this place. The food is absolutely delicious. Definitely recommending this restaurant and by far it’s my favourite French restaurant. Also whenever I am in I don’t need to think what to order because the staff is always happy to recommend and guide me what to get.

The food was excellent. The French onion soup as good as I used to enjoy in Paris. The veal was perfectly cooked and the chocolate tart was perfect apart from the very hard pastry case. My only gripe would be that the food could have been a little hotter. It was only luke warm.

Lovely pre theatre meal with my family on Friday night. Great menu choice, beautiful rustic food, so tasty. The house wine both red and white were delicious. ... Would come again in a flash... If I could give any feedback, my friends meal was only partially hot, and we did have to ask 4 times for tap water for the table... other than that it was fabulous 👌

Yo, esposa e hija tenía el menú de 3 platos - du - viaje por £ 30 por persona. Tuvimos lo mismo hace aproximadamente un año mientras visitaba a mi hija en Nottingham uni, y lo disfrutamos y pensamos que era muy buena relación calidad-precio, así que decidimos volver a visitar. Sin embargo esta vez nos dimos cuenta, aunque todavía sabrosos, eran muy tacaños con ingrediente principal para cada plato y trataron de abultar el plato con ensalada. Incluso en el plato de queso solo proporcionaron 3 pequeñas rebanadas de brie con 3 pequeños trozos de pan. . . Prefiero pagar un poco más y no irme todavía con hambre. También se encontró una gran pieza de plástico afilado en el plato principal. No recomendaría este restaurante.

I believe the food was not freshly cooked, it was served well inside 10 minutes of sitting down, it was almost cold, I complained and it was taken away only to be warmed up, the veg was awful, the steak was too pink, not what I asked for and the fries were mostly too brittle, obviously a package of frozen ones. Certain staff were unkempt and scruffy. If that was french cooking the chef needs sacking:

I went with my friends to dine here for the first time. The food was beautiful (but beware of the chickory if you’re not a fan). The atmosphere was great. If I had any criticism, the gentleman serving us wasn’t very attentive when we tried to get his attention. My friend tried to order a half carafe of wine and took a while to get his attention whilst he was sitting behind the bar. However, it didn’t detract from the evening, and food arrived quickly and it was delicious.

As usual we enjoyed an excellent meal at French Living. We do feel that the menu could be made more accessible, it was at a high level and some of it was difficult to read. A lower level and printed more clearly would be a help.

First time visiting and absolutely blown away by the food. We ordered from the a la carte menu - the venison medallions in blueberry sauce and ribeye steak in red wine sauce were both superb, melt in the mouth and full of rich flavour. The pommes anna was the best we've had. The service was friendly and prompt. Will definitely be coming back.

Being a Thursday evening in January the restaurant was very very quiet, hence I have only given 4 for atmosphere. The service and food were excellent as we had expected, having visited several times previously.

Food and service were fine with a very definite ambiance française. Deducted a star because it was so cold in there; brrrr!

We had a fantastic time. Food was perfect and the service was excellent. We took my elderly parents and Dad just loved every minute, the staff all spoke in French, which he loved and he spoke French with them, he said he had, had the best time and he's planning a return visit already.

Maravilloso! Deliciosa comida servida por personal atento pero no abrumador. Todo cocinado a la perfección, presentado bien, pero de nuevo sin demasiado alboroto. Realmente me sentí como si estuviera en Francia. Nos alojamos bien después de cerrar sin pistas para que nos vayamos. Tan relajado y amistoso. Elegimos el vino de la casa y eso tampoco decepcionó. No veo la hora de volver.

The meal was superb, plenty of choice. Customer service was outstanding, the staff cannot do enough for you, very friendly and helpful.

My sister and I had lunch at the restaurant. We chose from the A la Carte menu. We had a superb meal with a carafe of house wine. It is very welcoming and the staff were attentive without being 'in your face'. We don't live in Nottingham and had visited for the day. A shame as I would go more frequently if I lived nearer.

I have been wanting to visit this restaurant for some time and my expectations were not disappointed. The food was fantastic, the service was great. It was really nice to be able to have either the set menu or a la carte in the evening. We can't wait to visit again and this time will be a lot sooner.

Visited here before attending the theatre, which is close by. Food was fantastic and just absolutely delicious. Proper cooked French food, beautiful. Also loads of choice. Service was good and staff polite and friendly. Would definitely recommend French living to anyone visiting Nottingham city centre and I hope to return in future.

We loved this place... We took a chance and turned up for lunch without booking... Thankfully they had a table available .. prompt service and quality food.. you got the steak served as specified on the board non of this asking for it well done malarky... Seasoning was on point so not a salt shaker in sight

Just had a super lunch at French Living. It really felt like being in a French restaurant.

Authentic French according to my missus. Was busy great atmosphere, lovely food, we will be back. Wednesday evening we booked and walk ins were mostly accommodated. Book to avoid disappointment. Reasonable price.

Absolute gem of a restaurant. Been a firm favourite of ours for many years and never disappoints! We visited again on a wet and windy Saturday for lunch and had a beautiful 2 course meal in a snug, warm and welcoming environment. Merci!

Set lunch was outstanding - as ever. Salt cod fritters followed by steak onglet with a good house wine (Languedoc). Stephane in great form. Highly recommend.

The service was welcoming and friendly. I was very happy with the choice of wines. My partner liked her soft drink. Our food arrived in good time. My venison was cooked to perfection with plenty of tasty vegetables and a delicious sauce. My partner enjoyed her steak frites, which was very good value from the menu du jour. We were truly replete, so no chance of a dessert. We were pleasantly surprised by the total bill.

Absolutely wonderful meal pre-theatre. Quality ingredients, portion size always just the right amount and seasoned to perfection. Lots of choice and very affordable. Always our first choice of restaurant whenever we are in Nottingham.

2nd time I've visted in 1 month. Food is incredible and reasonably priced. Service is fast and the servers are friendly. Would reccomend if you fancy a delicious treat when in Notts!

French Living is always wonderful.

Either employ more staff or book less covers. It was pre-theatre but a minimum standard of care and attention should still apply. Little/ no communication from the staff depending upon who was looking after one (maitre'd was particularly miserable). Wine dumped unceremonially on the table. I will return because there is little competition now that Petit Paris has closed but, come on monsieur, sharpen up your game! The food was excellent.
