Came here on a whim with colleagues. Lovely small English pub with cosy inviting corners. I was in town for a work event. The atmosphere was lovely inside, I loved the doggy beer corner even though my dog wasn't with me. The menu is easy to navigate as I have food intolerances and it was easy for me to make a selection as vegan, gluten free options easily identifiable with their coding system. Food was divine! Service friendly and personable. I hope to be back again soon.

Found this place on an overnight stay in Leicester. Hugely impressed. Very old building, apparently the oldest standing in the city, converted into a pub and restaurant. Absolutely gorgeous inside. We arranged a catch-up here , sadly when we went inside the place was like an ice box , we booked a table to eat. We asked why it was so cold and was told the heating was broken. This place has lots of lovely stoves but only one which was done stairs !!and the owner was away. We kept our coats on ( it was warmer outside ) and gritted our teeth 😬 and ordered our food! , this arrived pipping hot, so thank you . The staff were really good and very polite, This place is so beautiful inside such an old building it really should have had these fires alight and made a really wonderful place to eat and meet. Mr. owner, get it sorted please your letting the side down. We will revisit and hope to find things a lot lot warmer 🙏.

This historic pub in the centre of Leicester has a restaurant area and a large outside seating area with views of the square. There is also an outside seating area on the square. We chose to sit in the pleasant garden area behind the railings as we felt more secure with our shopping bags. We enjoyed two generous glasses of prosecco which were good value at £4.85 each.

After several failed attempts at ordering - that’s not available on the Sunday menu, nor is that, I settled on the Beef and Horseradish (strip loin beef with rocket lettuce and bowl of gravy) sandwich. Went there for some food and it ended up being Thursday steak night, the food was delicious, well cooked and very well priced in my opinion. The staff were helpful and funny and seemed genuine. We were sat there and already talking about going again! It is very tastefully decorated in keeping with its heritage yet despite that for an old building, I didn't think about it being cold at all. The dining area only had a few tables, and was up some stairs so I would keep that in mind and book. Even that process was very easy. The bar and outside area was very nice and the drinks menu even had some delightful sounding "staff favourites" which seemed helpful. my only complaint was that at one point the music sounded like it was aimed at young children at one point in the night at about 9pm? maybe a mix up with the playlist? VERY MUCH ENJOYED MY EVENING. Will be back.

I visited with a friend on a beautiful day, when we sat outside in the garden area under the shade of a tree. This is my second visit here, the previous visit having been some years ago (also on a beautiful day). I think that the establishment may have changed hands since then, and the place felt somehow less rarified than on the previous visit, and none the worse for that. The landlady (?) and her husband (?) are proper down-to-earth Leicester people, and service was friendly and attentive. Both I and my guest enjoyed our meals, and my beer was well-kept (he is restricted to non-alcoholic, unfortunately.). The food was very reasonably-priced, tasty, well-cooked, and a decent portion size. Indeed, my special, with a pint of beer included in the price, seemed amazingly good value by today’s standards. This is definitely a place I will return to, possibly even on my own.

My partner and I had our wedding reception in May 2024. We reserved our date almost a year prior, and was introduced to Holly, who assisted and co-ordinated the whole day for us, and the finer details leading up to the date. The function rooms upstairs were clean, the staff were so friendly, and the staff took great care with our wedding guests who had additional needs. The place is a 2-minute walk from Guildhall where we had our ceremony, so it’s a perfect location for guests to walk across for the wedding breakfast and reception. Holly is a true credit to the Wygstons House team, and each and every person working there on the day made it truly memorable for us. A huge thank you to everyone.

What a shame that the service and food did not match up to the stunning medieval building. This was more like an episode of Fawlty Towers and had us looking for hidden cameras! We were given the menus and ordered off of those. Well we tried to, this was 7.30 on a Saturday night and as we went to order was told there was no fillet steak, and 2 other things off of a limited menu were also off. We were told the soup of the day was tomato and basil, my favourite, so ordered starters but not the steak i wanted. Then after about 5 minutes the waitress came back and asked who had ordered mussels with a Thai green curry. We were then told they didn't do Thai green curry and didn't know where we got it from. We pointed out the menu and were told it must be an old menu. If so all the menus were old as they all had the curry on. Picking something else we were then asked who was having the Terrine? Unfortunately the same person who was having the mussels and was told that was now off also!! We ordered another drink and waited quite a while for starters. The soup came out and was served and was green!!! When I said "that's not Tomato and Basil" I was told no it was leek and potato and that's what they were doing!! We questioned why we were told Tomato and he mumbled that may have been earlier so did we want this soup or not. I declined and sent it back to the kitchen. When the mains arrived quite a bit later, having now had fish and chips, as this was about the only thing available, it was very disappointing and you get far better from the chippy for half the price! I could go on but things didn't improve and to top it all they tried to charge for the terrine which they didn't have! I spoke to the manager/owner expressing my disappointment in the whole affair and he tried to tell me it was his duty managers fault and he would be having a word!! I pointed out that as the manager it was his fault and the buck stopped with him we had friends who had travelled from Spain who were very upset on our behalf for the whole debacle. We later spoke to other friends who it turns out had been twice and experienced similar things, I wish they had told me before we went. What a shame that this fabulous restautant, with a better management team, could be the jewel in Leicesters crown but it is far more like the Torquay hotel previously mentioned but not as funny!!

We had our wedding last June, we hired out the top floor and had catering for 65 guests. We had the wedding at the Guildhall and wanted this amazing looking medieval house for the reception. The staff here are the best, they went above and beyond to make this a remarkable day. All said the food was amazing and it is. We had a buffet of roast pork, pulled pork roast beef chicken skewers, pizza's a mixture of salads fresh cobs and more. With a couple of guests needing extra care with dietary requirements everyone had an amazing experience. We have to thank Holly for planning everything for us, form start to finish she understood just what we wanted. If you are looking for a venue for a wedding, party, or other get-together then Wygston's House needs to be at the top of your list of places to consider. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming, the staff are wonderfully friendly and accommodating, and the food and drinks are of an incredibly high quality. Holly, the events coordinator, is also a dream to work with and will take so much potential stress out of your planning by being one of the most competent and committed people that you could possibly have in your corner. We were married at the iconic and historic Guildhall this October (2023) and had our reception at Wygston's House. From the first time we came in to meet Holly and view the room it was clear that this was going to be Our Spot - the rooms upstairs are beautiful, perfectly warm and cosy for an October evening, and with the same historic charm and atmosphere that we loved so much in the Guildhall. Holly was an absolute gem from the get-go and it is not possible for me to overstate how fantastic, how perfect, how completely and utterly smooth and problem-free everything was from the planning through to the event itself. We had a couple of guests with tricky dietary requirements and a few funny little requests which Holly took entirely in her stride, and which she and her team knocked out of the park without question. We had a couple of people drop out a couple of days before (due to covid unfortunately) which was no problem for Holly at all - she simply rejigged the seating plan for me - and then also even had an extra guest, unexpectedly, on the day itself. An extra place was just whipped out from seemingly nowhere and everything continued on its smooth lovely path. The level of attention and commitment that you will get from Holly as your coordinator is so reassuring and comforting and really helps take a lot of the stress out of planning an event. I have to give extra credit to her for smashing her elbow the day before our wedding and still coming in to work it! The next point i absolutely MUST mention is our Wedding Breakfast - i am writing this review just over two months later and people are still talking about the food at our reception. The chef was so flexible and accommodating to all of our requests, from making sure that the vegans and vegetarians were as well-catered to as we wanted them to be, to being able to prepare for people with coeliac attending and even to the point of making sure one of our guests, who had to leave before the meal was served, was able to have their dinner made earlier and put in a takeout box. I can't sing the praises of the kitchen and bar teams enough for providing such a wonderful experience for us and all of our guests. Overall, our whole reception could not have gone more perfectly. Everything we wanted was done as if by magic (but in actuality, by Holly!) and the even passed so pleasantly that it definitely didn't seem half long enough. I cannot thank Holly and the rest of the team at Wygston's House enough, and I hope that they know how special and memorable and just perfect our wedding day was because of them and their outstanding work. I would wholeheartedly and without question recommend this venue to anybody looking for a cosy and welcoming place to host any kind of a party or get-together at all!

We were guests at the Gurr Davies wedding reception. The restaurant was warm, inviting and very friendly. The good served for the reception was well presented, beautifully cooked and very tasty which is no mean accomplishment for large number catering. We had our wedding reception here at the end of October and cannot fault it. The planning, the atmosphere, the food and the staff were all exceptional. We hired the whole top floor which was the perfect setting for our autumnal wedding following a ceremony at the Guildhall. We wanted a banquet-style dinner and the chef and his team really outdid themselves in creating a bespoke menu for us. From the canapés right through to the desserts, it was all absolutely delicious and thoroughly enjoyed by our wedding party. We've since received so many compliments about the food from our guests, it really was top notch! I'd love to give a special shout out to Holly who helped us plan the do - she was on-hand to help with anything and nothing was too much. Lovely spontaneous Sunday lunch here and sat in bar area as fully booked - always a good sign! It was a great atmosphere. We had the 3 courses and it was all faultless. The broccoli soup was wonderful and I was delighted to have so much bread and lots of butter (HATE it when restaurants give you only 1 tiny piece). The roast beef was excellent and it was served with all the trimmings - a fluffy Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese and a gravy boat for each person. Staff here seemed stressed and a bit frantic at times - I could see they were busy and run off their feet but it meant some guests welcomes were very stressful. A wonderful meal here for great value.

A fantastic attribute to the city centre of Leicester, the building is historically beautiful with a large outdoor sunny seating area to enjoy a pint or two overlooking Jubilee square. Unfortunately adding food (lunch) to this was a regrettable mistake. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was ok (4/10) my partner had the chicken, both on tiger bread, mine was fine my partners was shockingly stale, we also ordered a bucket of chicken wings and they were quite possibly the worst chicken wings I’d ever tasted, in fact they were that bad I complained, I was offered a refund on both the sandwich and wings but was quite happy just to have them re done as we were very hungry( hence a large lunch order). On a second attempt the wings were even worse, I didn’t want to make a second complaint so forced a few hard extremely crispy wings down and left disappointed. Staff 5/5 Drinks 4/5 Atmosphere 5/5 Food 0/5

Went as quite a large group. We all ordered and paid separately at the bar ahead of receiving our food. We all had mains only. Every effort was made for the food to come out together which it pretty much did. I opted for mussels, main course option was £19. They were just warm when they arrived. I didn’t want to make a scene but mussels should be served piping hot. I raised the issue. They were taken away and returned a few minutes later, very slightly warmer. The extra bowl for the shells didn’t return. The white sauce was not thin and plentiful enough for fries & bread dipping. The fries & bread were delicious, just needed more sauce! There was no follow up check. I was disappointed at the time & relieved that I wasn’t poorly. A suggestion would be to cook & serve them in a metal pan with lid. My friends mostly had burgers and at half the price of my mussels, they looked very good indeed!

I recently visited Konak Restaurant in Leicester, and I was really impressed with the overall experience. The kebabs, doners, and mezes were bursting with flavor and felt very authentic. One thing that stood out for me was their soups – they were absolutely delicious and perfect as a starter. The atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and welcoming, making it a great place to enjoy a meal. The prices might seem a little high, but the quality and taste of the food make it worth it.
