Really enjoyed the food here together with the family!

Fantastic place, great food and lovely service. On the expensive side but a good shout for the special occasions in life! the tasting menue with wine pairings is a must! Cant wait to be back.

Here with the family as it the beginning of national lockdown, and wanted to go for something special, wasn't disappointed, food, service excellent. Can't fault it. Thank you for a great evening.

Service was very friendly if a little slow. Food was excellent we started with scallops which just melted in the mouth. Main course was duo of Leicestershire beer extremely tender and tasty compliments to the chef and butcher. We finished with chocolate fondant with autumn fruit sorbet an excellent way to round of a lovely meal

Service was absolutely outstanding. The gent that looked after us that night was so friendly, chatty and generally lovely. We had a small issue where our bill seemed to double charge itself, and it was sorted swiftly with no issues. Food was delicious, which it always is, so really enjoyed it. White peacock is my favourite restaurant in Leicester City Centre so just hope it survives another lockdown.

I love atmosphere that place it's very good for romantic meeting with partner. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Food was delicious. I'm sure I will be came back to try another dishes. In 120% I can recommend that restaurant for everyone.

A pleasure to be able to return to the White Peacock. As usual the food was superb and the whole experience was only marginally marred by the covid precautions. The staff ensured that everyone had a fantastic time.

This is the first time I have been to the White Peacock, and it will definitely not be the last, the service, the food, the whole experience was second to none, it was a amazing, only very slight criticism is the lighting in the restaurant seemed to very bright, but only a minor detail. Would highly recommend.

The food and ambience is amazing and we will definitely be back. There was about 45 minutes between main course and dessert and another 15/20 minutes for the bill after it was requested. That was a bit too long but the only snag. The presentation of the food is exceptional and I’d prefer to have a delay than be hurried along with no gaps in courses as some restaurants do. We will definitely be back

I wanted to give my nephew an experience , but unfortunately it was negative. He felt it was over priced and pretentious. I usually enjoy it but it just didn't taste the same.

Presentation of food was very impressive, but portion sizes didn't really make sense. My partner and I had the same starters and mains; and it felt like one portion was split between the two of us, literally with the visible cut of our basa in the starter and the lamb kebab and roast lamb element in the main. The broccoli for our main was quite burnt (not just chargrilled) and the roast lamb and potato gelatin were cold. However I have to say that the cottage pie-like element of the main was delicious. The desserts were very rich and disproportionally large; didn't quite make sense following the first two dishes. It was hard to get a booking but when we arrived the restaurant was empty, and as the evening went by, it wasn't busy; with a couple placed at the table right next to us and one section of the restaurant with 3 larger tables (4 - 6 seats each) was completely empty at peak dinner hour. Took 20 minutes to get our bill with the waitress being surprised we required separate bills for the card machine, running back and forth. Waiting staff don't seem to know particularly well what they are doing, which is unfortunate but I guess they have just recently reopened after a long break. Overall, quite disappointed, the ambience wasn't there, the food didn't wow us.

Everything was mostly nice but nothing was outstanding which I expected. Took a long time to get asked what we would like to drink. Also I had the trio of lamb and in the pie there was big bits of jelly fat which I had to leave. Not what I expect in fine dining but everything was ok I suppose

Lovely welcome and all the COVID measures in place. Food was exceptional. Enjoyed the atmosphere. The whole experience was most enjoyable. It was our first time but we will be back.

The food was fantastic, however the whole feel was disappointing. We were sat at a table pushed in the corner. And our table was so close to the table next to us even though we were the only 2 tables seated. Staff were polite but somewhat nervous and it made us feel uncomfortable. It was very quiet in there which gave off a lack of atmosphere. It’s a shame as we were really looking forward to visiting.

My family always like to come to eat at the white peacock on special occasions or as a treat. We have never been disappointed every time we have been. My wife is a vegetarian and has good choice and is happy with her meals. It is a family favourite and we have taken family and friends to eat there. I would 100% recommend. Sunny

I was invited to a trial night at the white peacock. I was really impressed by the attention of the staff when it came to social distancing and cleaning tables and chairs. I also saw they were washing hand all the time they were clearing tables. The manager was fantastic, I could see they were understaffed because she was running around nonstop . She did a great job being alone on the floor. The cocktails were delicious, especially the berries mojito. Food was good too, try the chocolate mousse with mushroom ice cream, it doesn’t sound good but it is! I was so impressed! Overall great experience, shout out to the front of house staff wearing a face mask in the heat and sanitising everything all the time!

Visited last night, and with what’s going on, we were the only customers present. So I am very grateful to the White Peacock for staying open just to serve us. The food was simply outstanding, as in MasterChef final class!!! I was blown away, especially 3 courses for £25 at such a high standard. The restaurant itself is lovely and beautifully laid out. The staff were really nice. Will definitely be back to make even more of it.

We had the most perfect evening as a belated 50th birthday present from my daughter. Started with relaxed cocktails which were amazing. Then we were shown to our table. At our complete leisure and treated to the most wonderful 3 course meal of the highest quality. The service was excellent from everyone. Thank you for a perfect evening.

A wonderful 9 course taster menu, great wines and bubbly, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Really made the evening, waiting for the next surprise dish and wine to come out and savour the flavours.

We came here for an evening meal about a week ago and I cannot recommend it enough. The staff were lovely, friendly and approachable. The food was delightful, we both had the braised shin for a main and I could not fault it. The only improvement I could point out would be that the dining room was slightly on the chilly side but the staff made every effort to heat the room up, bringing a portable heater in etc which worked a treat. The cocktails and drinks were delightful too. I would highly recommend anyone to try it out and a huge thank you to the staff who made our experience the best it could be.

This was my first vist to The White Peacock and the family were looking forward to the experience. We left slightly underwhelmed by the the evening. The surroundings are pleasent with the bar probably better decorated than the dining room which has a couple of places where the wallpaper appears to have been ripped......surely that could be fixed. The matre de was probably one of the best aspects of the evening, she was competent pleasant and attentive but the rest of the waiting staff were very young and inexperienced. After well made cocktails in the bar we settled down for our 7 course tasting menu (I say 7 course, actually it's six, then you are asked if anyone wants coffee or liquers for the 7th). All courses were nicely presented and looked good on the plate including the vegan option which my partner had. The wines also complemented the courses well. Unfortunately very few plates tasted as good as they looked, just lacking in flavour. The curried sweet potato soup left a taste of ash in all our mouths, none of us could finish it. A chicken terrine was nice but no better that that, whilst the smoked mackeral was served cold with a limp, uncrisped skin on it and a buttermilk and horseradish sauce that had no flavour at all. After a pleasant rosewater sorbet we had a pork dish that was the best of the set, three different ways of cooking the meat plus a nice five spice jus. A chocolate fondant was also nice without being out of the ordinary. The pacing of the meal had been good up to this point but the promised petit fours arrived 15 minutes after the coffee without explanation. To sum up, it could and should be so much better with just a little more thought in getting flavour into the food.

I love this restaurant and visit it frequently in the evening. I wanted my friend to feel the same. Everything was going well until the mains arrived. My meal was perfect but her portion of Basa was tiny, she finished it quickly and was still hungry after her two courses. We told the waitress but nothing was done. My friend said 'it was nice but was not enough, she would never go again'. You had an opportunity to put it right. I left disappointed.

Went for a birthday dinner, had the la Carter menu and the veg option wasnt nice.For the price we paid sadly food wasnt upto standard. The complimentary bread was cold and was only given 1 piece each. Staff were lovely though, very polite. Hence the 3 stars, otherwise it would have been 1

Went for lunch. Great quality food, wonderful host and the two/three course lunch menu is really good value (coupled with the offer on aperitifs). Cannot recommend enough.

Service was good but the food not so much, for vegetarian the option wasn't good and we only got piece of complimentary bread which was cold. We expected a basket of bread to eat on the table. Definitely wasnt value for money, disappointed becuase went before and the food was lovely.

My wife and I ate at The White Peacock in late November and both thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The welcome and cocktails in the bar were excellent. The 9 Course tasting menu was varied and of very good quality. We went for the accompanying wine flight which was very good too. Unfortunately there was a slight mix up with the dessert wine and port, but this was rapidly put right and extra cheese supplied to accompany the port! Friendly, unpretentious staff and a reasonable price to pay for such good food and service. Stand out dish for us was simple but superb and this was a beetroot sorbet served with Prosecco poured over it. Hope to be back when next in Leicester

I felt compelled to write another review after reading some of recent reviews portraying a less than satisfactory experience.We have used The White Peacock for special occasions for many years. Most recently on Saturday night, we had the 9-course tasting menu with paired wines and it was everything we have come to expect.A welcoming greeting, excellent service, checking if the pace of the evening was to our taste, great food, with complimentary wines - the only returning item from our last visit was the dessert wine but if its not broken don't fix it.I can't speak for other people or other reviews, I can only repeat my title we have never had a bad experience, in fact only every good - so if you haven't tried I would suggest go and try for yourselves and hopefully your experience will be like ours have always been.

Very nice overall service. Staff was great and attentive and we was settled in a chilled ambience. Dining took a little over 2 hours, which was expected and we was more than happy being here.

We were booked in for a birthday meal for my wife on a Tuesday night and had more or less waited a year for this as they were closed on her birthday last year. We were a little niggled that the cost of the tasting menu on the web site was less than the menu that was e-mailed to us, but the night there more than made up for it. A 7 course 'vegan' tasting menu and all the courses were excellent. The service from Charlotte was exemplary and she even kept checking on us when it appeared one of her colleagues got run over by a bike outside. I don't think you could ask for more and we will definitely be back.

Valentines dinners would be expected to be a quiet and romantic event, time to spend with your partner with lovely surroundings, nice food and wines. When expectations don’t meet reality its very disappointing. The White Peacock in Leicester has won awards in the past, but these are old, and I am sure current performance in no way reflects those once held accolades.

What happened?! There used to be a time you’d be greeted as sir or madam, now it’s “alright guys?” at the door. When I pay premium prices I expect premium service, not the TGI Friday treatment. No elegance or charm at all in the manner of serving, I wanted what I thought was going to be a high end meal with fine dining service. The dishes, the drinks menu, the selection of wine and presentation were of a very high standard, just a shame about the lack of classic formality and peaceful ambiance. Sometimes people want to be treated in a way that feels luxurious and special.

Our Valentine s Day was perfect! We were sat later than we were meant to but the manager told everybody they were running late and gave us a prosecco on the house. Once we were sat everything was perfect, the food was delicious and the front of house staff really worked hard to make our night special.

Overall we felt 4 stars a fair rating, the food was very good, service was friendly but maybe a little over cooked from some. My major criticism is the decor/ambiance, the price is justified judged on food & drinks alone but when surrounding is taken into account, slightly over priced! We did have maybe the worst position in the restaurant (up against a vast smeared mirror) and we did book very late but it wouldn't take much to warm this stark corner up with some soft furnishings or warm lighting, maybe some bevelled glass and fairy lights or candles? Could very easily be 5* given some professional styling. Chef is a credit to the establishment.

Reserved table for 2 on Valentine's night 2020 for 8.30 pm. Waited patiently and invited to table 1 hour later at 9.30 pm. Waited for further 15 minutes at table without any food. Minute nibbles served after further 10 minutes. By 10.0 pm no sign of food being served. Couple at next table who arrived substantially later then we did served with 2nd course of nibbles before us. No explanation given for extraordinary delay and no advance warning given that delay of 1.5 hours without food was to be expected. After waiting patiently my diabetic partner became concerned about the fact there was no sign of any food arriving. We were compelled therefore to leave to obtain a take away before it was too late. If the cause of this car crash experience had been shared with customers or if customers had been given the opportunity to cut their losses before wasting their evening a crisis would not have been turned into a disaster. It is to be hoped that this unfortunate experience is not repeated..

We opted for the 9 course Tasting Menu on Saturday lunchtime and were not disappointed.

Great meal, great service, great ambience

Good food and service but higher end restaurant would have expected lovely cutlery and glassware which there wasn’t. Not one knife and fork matched and they were very cheap. Also chairs were very rickety. These things matter. All in all slightly disappointed. Waitresses were very lovely and service was good.

Looking for a restaurant to eat for the evening, the food here was amazing as was Charlotte. We had 2 courses and shared them between us. Scallops and the chicken terrine both fantastic, followed by monk fish and pork belly and cheek. As a random result of a quick look on here for somewhere to eat it was very serendipitous.

Unfortunately from start to finish, the service and attitude of the staff made the evening frustrating and disappointing.

We arrived just before 8pm table booked for 8pm was left waiting for approximately 20mins before our drinks order was taken ! Eventually taken to our table and ordered food again another long wait for starters to arrive which were bland and very small portions. Mains came and my steak was inedible. We complained and was offered money off for the steak although the bill was still expensive for the service and food we got. Looking around the room lots of other people complaining about the service. Also the men’s toilets only had one toilet working when this was mentioned to the staff they said it was because it was a listed building and couldn’t carry out the work quickly 🤔 Very disappointing will not be returning

Decor was tired. Toilets not fully functional & scruffy looking. Phil Sharpe & Charlotte had created something that felt special but the White Peacock needs a complete overhaul to regain its place as a premium dining experience & to justify the prices that they charge. Really sad.

We tried the nine course taster menu with wine pairing. So much delicious food but was given time to digest each course in between service. The alcohol was expertly paired and really brought out and complimented the taste of the food. The staff were very attentive in a non intrusive way as always. We had a trainee for some of the courses who did extremely well and became increasingly confident as the night went on. He showed great knowledge of the food and wine that we were served. The whole experience took five hours and we were given the opportunity to order our own drinks in the bar before dining and during the meal. My daughter had two different cocktails that were not even on the cocktail list but the bar staff had no problem in making drinks to order. We cannot thank the staff at The White Peacock enough for making our celebratory visit so comfortable and pleasantly unforgettable. We will certainly return.

Taster pescetarion menu....great flavours ..we were only people in restaurant so ambience difficult to rate. We had 3 different waiters but all excellent! Thank you for making a Mum/ Son lunch date lovely.

My daughter and I decided on dinner at The White Peacock downtown, worth a try but neither of us was impressed by the food. Quite pricey. Service attentive and excellent. Maitre d' rather pretentious and snobby.

Booked here for hubby’s 50th birthday and weren’t sure what to expect. What we got was a somewhat old fashioned dining room with amazing food and lovely service. The bread with herb butter was divine - sadly I didn’t get to taste the accompanying oil as hubby gobbled it all up before I got a look in. My beetroot and goats cheese starter was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten and the beef main was lovely with a good mix of garnishes (tenderstem broccoli, pea and parsnip purées and an amazing layered potato slice (I forget its name!). Hubby also enjoyed his cod cheeks and coley/crab main. Lovely dessert cocktail for me and tonka brûlée for hubby. The great food club discount offers a good saving on a quite expensive a la carte. All in all an excellent celebration lunch but for me, the dining room could do with a re-fresh.

First visit to this restaurant. Booked the taster menu based on previous positive reviews (4 of us). I’m afraid it wasn’t a good experience. The restaurant was pretty much empty (one table of two, one table of 5 or so in addition to us, quite a large room) so no atmosphere. Waits between courses became longer and longer - from cheese to the 1st dessert was over 40 mins, and counting - in the end we gave up and left. We won’t go back.

Cold fish, the food, the experience and the service.

Cold fish! My Coley dish was missing the crab croquette and our side of honey roast veg was missing too. While the waitress apologised and took my dish away to complete it we waited so we could eat at the same time. When she brought it back with croquette intact the coley and potatoes were cold. My partners pork belly was overcooked and dry, and the side of honey roast veg was more like steamed veg with a honey dressing, unfortunately the parsnips were undercooked and inedible. Poor all round, both food and the service. We relayed this information to the waitress who said she’d tell the chef. The waitress was quite curt with us too. It was a really disappointing and expensive experience given we’d chose to dine there as a Christmas treat. A special treat for which we’d planned especially because we’d be apart over the Christmas period, this restaurant put a huge dampner on that. It’s very poor value for money, £74 for 2. We were offered a free dessert to compensate but declined so they removed the side dish and water from our bill only. We felt robbed, both of hard early cash and our evening. It was very disappointing and upsetting experience, handled without due care or acknowledgement for the poor experience we had. Choosing this restaurant for a special occasion was a big mistake and I won’t be going back.

Good, but overpriced for what it is

It was an OK evening for a night out with my husband. However, I would have been disappointed if this was for a special occasion. We felt that the menu was trying to be a bit too clever and in doing so made the food a bit odd. Also the seat my husband sat on was along the back wall and was so wide and low he was so uncomfortable and found it difficult to eat. We were given cushions to prop him up but this did not help. Also, we were sat next to a lot of empty tables that hadn’t even been laid, so we felt like we were sat in a cafe - not a top rated restaurant! I have been brought up in the catering industry -my father owned a restaurant- and know it is important to have tables laid to give a good ambience to a place. For me it just felt like you were all being lazy and couldn’t be bothered! Apart from that we still had a nice evening and the staff were very friendly. We won’t be making a return journey however.

Booked in over the weekend for my sisters birthday. Had high expectations as we were regulars at Maiyango's and then then closed down and i'd heard the owners had opened this one.

Always perfect in every way. Esme is the most amazing front of house, she always remembers us and her and her team are just outstanding at customer service. The food is never anything but utterly delicious, and fabulous cocktails and wines too. I cannot fault the White Peacock at all, it is our special occasion restaurant- although we now seem to be coming up with more and more special occasions as an excuse to visit!!
