We had our wedding breakfast and reception at Worplesdon Place and everything was just perfect. The food is amazing & the staff were so accommodating. They made planning this event so easy & took so much of the wedding prep stress away from me. The rooms are beautiful & the snack is so delicious. I'm so grateful to the entire team. Please go visit Worplesdon, it's such a gem in the heart of Surrey. You won't be disappointed.

Our family group of 6 attended Sunday lunchtime and had a relaxed afternoon, not being hurried along and able to chat and catch up. It’s a beautiful place to eat with gardens and lake and plenty of tables outside if that suits you. We elected to sit inside. Food was generous portions and a “traditional” Sunday roast is available - desserts were superb also - I recommend booking.

We have been lots of times to Worplesdon Place and had a really positive experience. Nice and spacious inside, lovely outdoor area and nice food. We went on Father’s Day and unfortunately it wasn’t as good as previous trips. Very slow service (despite it not being very busy - lots of staff standing around talking) and the food was average.

First time visiting the pub for Father's Day. I was a bit conscious since reading the poor reviews, however it has exceeded our expectations. The service in the bar was quick, food arrived on time and was delicious. All staff were friendly. Seems like we found a hidden gem! I hope this continues even during a busy period. We already told our friends about it and so, we will definitely return!

Popped in for a quick light lunch and left full and satisfied! 😁 I chose the pea and ham hock soup and sourdough bread and my friend had the steak sandwich and chips. My soup was heavenly! (Now I don’t use that word often!) it was tasty, rich and flavoursome and thick! Topped with delicious ham hock. Perfect amount for lunch. My friend was very pleased with his steak sandwich (I tried some of the steak and it was beautifully tender) Our coffees were lovely although my macchiato was a little cold so I asked for a splash of hot water rather than a fresh one. I’m not one to fuss over trivial things 😁 Thank you for the pleasant efficient service and see you again in the coming weeks 👍

ONCE AGAIN ! - a pub with no Beer - absolutely no Ale whatsoever - SERIOUSLY, this is a massive pub and owned by Youngs brewery and everyone there is very upset, however this is a regular occurrence in this pub, yet it has around 8 Ale pumps. It Can’t be a couple of weeks since it last time it was totally without beer, what’s the point in driving to a Pub - it’s a half hour round trip for me, to have a pint of beer when it’s proven so unreliable - people just go to the multiple pubs in the area that employ managers capable of keeping at least one beer on tap ! I approached a person regarding this with a major attitude problem, sitting at a desk, to ask why this keeps happening - says he one of the managers but flatly refuses to give me his name !!! Seriously, no wonder the place is so utterly disorganised. Rather than be accommodating and apologetic for the inconvenience - (having driven for 15 minutes to get there for a nice pint ) chose to tell me I was lying. It turns out that he is the deputy manager behind Tom-not on property. I felt this behaviour very strange so I took my camera phone and said ok, took a picture and said I will post it… he stood up and started to threaten me if I was to post it he would….!!!! I left the property with a view to raising this with the Police. They have spent a fortune on this property under the control of a French manager who did an amazing job in improving the property - something of a disaster that through the the non existence of any management capable of running it properly will end up a waste of a lot of money.

First time visiting today and we were all really impressed. There were 7 of us in the group and everyone enjoyed their meals. The food was excellent and so was the service. Sophie deserves a special mention, she really looked after us. The restaurant also had a great atmosphere, looked great and was generally very welcoming. It was also immaculately clean. Christmas Eve lunch for family of 11 for my fathers 91st birthday, unfortunately he wasn’t well enough to attend. But it was nice to see some of the family for Christmas.Main coarse was Turkey and Duck, the Turkey portions far to small luckily there was a large Yorkshire pudding to fill the plate. The duck was horrible dry and no taste I had to ask for more gravy, mash was nice but need vegetables with it all we had was half a shallot.Onto the puddings there was Christmas pudding or apple crumbleThe Christmas pudding was a child portion no more than two inches in circumference and one small scoop of ice cream. The apple crumble was like dry porridge on top and the apples were to bitter and the custard was served in a separate small ramekin dish which helped to moisten the porridge. And also one of our guest had cheese and biscuits there was only blue cheese and 3 ryvita biscuits and grapes served without butter. The waitress was very stressed and grumpy which made us begrudge the service charge and also as my father didn’t attend they also added his deposit. It wasn’t as busy for a Christmas Eve which was understandable.

Recommend Worplesdon place for anyone with serious food allergies. The staff have been trained well to liaise with the chef and write down all food allergies. Having explained that I suffer from anaphylaxis and carry epipens the chef cooked an off menu meal to ensure that I was safely catered for. Some restaurants have refused to serve me at all so it was great to have a lunch out with friends. Many thanks to Amy and Barbara and head chef, sorry don't know his name. Will definitely be back.

This was a family meal to celebrate my sister’s 50th birthday. She was looking for somewhere that suited us all for travelling and so had eaten here a few weeks earlier as a trial and had a fantastic meal.We arrived to find the other 6 members of the family already there sat at a table that I would normally expect for 4 people, tucked into an alcove. We joined them and expected that this would be just for drinks and we would be eating at a more appropriately sized table but this was not to be.My sister said that she has phoned up and booked a large round table but on the day this had been given to others. She had asked if she could make the table bigger but told not. I wouldn’t have minded but they were other tables that would have allowed us to spread out more. Before we arrived my sister asked for some bread and butter and reported that they had brought out 6 portions of bread and butter pudding! The food was okay but the service from the staff was dire with my niece having to constantly go to the bar to find someone to take orders, refresh drinks or clear the table. We were actually all laughing by the end because we are all quite easy going but couldn’t believe that the table was completely inadequate and the service over the evening had been so bad.Needless to say I won’t be returning.

Met some friends for an evening meal. We were a bit of a pain because we wanted to sit on a round table which was in all honesty too small for the 10 of us but so much more sociable so worth being a bit squished. Lorna our waitress could not have been more accommodating even though it must have been annoying when we moved tables. Her service was fantastic throughout and the food was delicious in particular the pie. Have just rebooked for 28th, and requested same table. It was a fantastic meal, thank you.

We went for lunch on Saturday 6 November with 4 friends and a 2 year old. Our waitress, Amie, was fantastic: really helpful, friendly, fun and knowledgeable about the food and drink menu. She second guessed our every need and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious: the soup, croquettes and salmon starters were all top notch. My steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned and very tasty. The chef sent an additional dish out for our friend’s little boy which was a lovely touch! There was easy access to the garden so our friends felt at ease with their little boy and he was really happy there. A lovely relaxed family atmosphere, superb food and great service. We had booked a table in advance but felt largely ignored. We weren't shown to our table, so had to ask at the bar about where our table was, no one came to take our order so we had to go to the bar to ask if we needed to order there, weren't offered more drinks, were offered a dessert menu which never arrived so had to go to the bar and ask for a dessert menu again. A large booking was in and it felt like they were too busy to attend to us. Food was OK, nothing special, though the sticky toffee pudding was pretty nice. All in all it felt a pretty disappointing experience especially the poor service. Staff were friendly, just largely absent and inattentive.

This place has loads of potential but service was slow, food was bland, tasteless and greasy. It also felt very expensive for what we were served, so much so we opted out of buying a kids meal and the four year old shared from adult plates. I am also very upset that I paid via the app, and was encouraged to pay a tip ahead of service, to then receive the service we did I regret this, I will complain to the business but there is no obvious Mechanic to do so…perhaps they think making it hard to complain means that people won’t bother…

This pub has a beautiful location by the lake with swans , great outdoor space and plenty of indoor sitting. The menu is a typical pub one , but the food is good. The thing is a bit so and so is the service, if you are not regular here and do not know how to get an app ( which not always works ) they are not rushing to help you and they do not offer the service even they have seen they we have struggled. I had to go in and ask and it took some time before I got some attention. If not that I would give them better rating. So what to say, if I have other choice, would prefer not to come back despite of the good food and location.

Nice setting, been here on and off for years. It’s generally a nice place but today £15 for a burger and chips with no garnish? Plate looked completely personality less and a feeling of is this it????? Is a garish too much to ask? Tasty enough burger but not worth the expensive tag. Really disappointed - other pubs around here are far better with their presentation and value for money. Won’t be eating here again unless I see a change. Only good news was the wine, it was very nice, came in an iced cooler and was good value comparatively. Also noticed a cut back on starters which is a shame as I often buy one or two just with drinks.

Booked on line. On arrival needed to load up the Young’s App so that we could order and pay for our dinner. The App is NOT intuitive but Emily was on hand to help us through our first time. The food was very good, once we understood the limitations of the App. The problems with the App include, 1. the menu on line is slightly different to the paper one.2. The allergy indicator only allows 1 allergy. I am allergic to approx 3 things.3. To order a mixed soft drink you have to put it in the comments.4. There is very limited choice for veggies and vegans.5. The alternatives to milk for tea and coffee are not listed.6. There seems to be no interest in offering choices for Celiacs ar IBS/IBD Our experience of the App and ordering was vastly improved by the assistance of Emily who was on hand to help with everything. Emily is a very polite, friendly and incredibly helpful young lady who is a huge asset to the restaurant.

Came for an evening of drinks and were told after getting an Uber to the Worplesdon place that we could not get a table. We were not asking to sit inside or on bookable tables but on the many 15+ Free tables outside as it is a lovely evening to enjoy outside. We came yesterday also with friends and we’re able to get a table outside straight away. We were informed by the girl quite abruptly that they cannot let us in as they are short staffed and cannot put anymore on the staff they cannot allow anymore walk-ins.. we even offered to sit and wait for a table to leave & that was just thrown back at us.. we are 2 people and now not too pleased with this service. Considering we now have to get another taxi to another place. It wouldn’t be a problem if you have displayed on your website that you are not accepting walk-ins today. In the second week of indoor dining being back on the menu, we booked a weekday dinner reservation. It was not crowded in either the bar area or restaurant. All the routine safety precautions were in place and it felt perfectly safe.We could choose our own seats in the dining room, and our drinks orders were taken and brought quickly. The menu has 'small plates', mains and puddings. We had 6 small plates between us which were more than enough, ranging in price from £3 to £12.We recommend the scotch egg and the chips, the Camembert was a bit pricey, and the pea croquettes were OK but a tad stodgy.Staff were attentive and it was easy to get the bill and pay on the card machine. There is an app for Youngs On Tap, but we didn't need to use it.We would recommend Worplesdon Place for anyone wanting a nice dinner.

Living locally we have visited this pub many times over the years and always found it to be just ok however now the food is absolutely outstanding. The staff are friendly and attentive and the layout of the pub is perfect given the current situation with social distancing as there's plenty of space between tables. Inside is also lovely and welcoming with open fires and lovely interior decoration. We all had starters, mains and desserts and were so impressed with the quality of the food. Not only was it so fresh and tasty it was also lovely and hot so we could tell it had been freshly cooked. Overall I can't recommend this place enough, if you're thinking about going, go! Only thing suboptimal was pillows like rocks and a lack of cushions/extra pillows to make sitting up in bed comfortable. The bar was very comfortable and tables well spaced. The food was nice but rather expensive. It possibly needed to be outstanding rather than nice for this price. It is very dog friendly which was great and our dog got lots of treats from staff but they always asked if it was OK first. The service was excellent, really stood out. We had researched local places to eat two weeks ahead of our stay and called the Worpleston place. I explained to them that we were a large group so understood we would need to be seated separately- this was agreed at time of booking and that we could have 2 large tables. Or arrival the staff were welcoming, however on seeing we had 8 children seated us on the furthest tables away possible. We shrugged this off, considering we had just driven 4 hours to get there. After ordering several drinks aswell as our food there was the start of a drizzle of rain. All other customers sat outside were personally asked if they would like to move inside, however we were left to sit at our outside table. We quickly asked of possible if we could move inside. I explained to the staff we were aware due to covid we couldn't sit together. We knew this at time of booking so had asked for separate tables to ensure we followed social distancing regulations. We were told by the waitress that this was not a problem and we would be shown shortly to our table. Soon after the 'manager' came over to tell us that they were unable to accommodate us as we were a group and that they could not feed us, despite us already 30 minutes previously ordering our food. He told us they were unable to accommodate groups of 10 of more. We explained that we dodnt expect to be seated together, however he refused to accommodate us. At this point as we felt we were being victimised due to having children we explained that we felt if we were being asked to leave we should have to pay for drinks if we were unable to finish them. The 'manager' then backtracked to say we could stay sat outside but "if it rains it's not our problem". We had travelled a long time and our children were starving so we continued with our order. 5 minutes after the manager had left the waitress then came out and explained the manager had requested we pay our bill in full before our food was served. We were confused by this and were made feel like we were not good enough to be in this restaurant. We requested the manager come back to further discuss this, however he declined instead sending the waitress (called lorna who was actually this only noce thing about this restaurant) ti say we just had to pay for drinks and the rest could be paid after. The food very quickly arrived and can only be described as mediocre...cold steak, small portion and tasteless. We has to wait a further 5 minute for cutlery and condiments. The waitress apologised to us as throughout she was very lovely, its ashame the manager was so rude. Have never been made to feel to not welcome in my entire life. Please only visit this hotel if you are prepared to be treated worthless and not good enough.

After 30 years living in Guildford I have seen this place ‘under new management’ as many times as Chelsea FC and I suspect that trend will continue. Average food, average atmosphere, appalling service from the jobsworth little man in charge. Having sat ourselves down in the garden, the relaid socially distanced garden we ordered via the Young’s on Tap app. After about 20 minutes there I was told - not politely informed - aggressively told I was not allowed to vape in the open air. Not too fussed about their rules (although clearly stupid in my opinion) but I do not go out and pay my hard earned wages to be talked to like that from a scruffy shirt hanging out power trip employee. Not to worry though as will wait until they relaunch again and see what it’s like then. NB this was all after we’d sat and watched someone complain about the food and also be told off for daring to snake outside. A real shame as the location is great and the other staff were really nice.

We had an experience at Worplesdon place that I hope we never have to go through at a restaurant again. Our orders had to be refunded back to us as the restaurant had effectively run out of most options on their menu and when the food we had ordered finally arrived it came out sporadically with some in our party already finished their meals 20 mins before some of us even received ours. The children in our party had to wait nearly 2 hours for a simple hamburger and understandably were upset. A real pity that this once great restaurant has fallen off a precipice. We will not be returning again.

After a slow start to take our order the evening got much better once the order was taken. We were out on a Girls Night out and Beth our server was really keen to give us the best evening. She did amazing. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious can thoroughly recommend.

Ate here today and I must admit firstly the staff are great. Very welcoming, attentive and friendly. The pub is trying to grow from its previous owners and is doing well. Beautiful outside seating with lake views. Dog friendly and a area for kids. Food is very high quality and very tasty and I'm a fussy eater.the Sunday roast is a must! The sharing bread platter is also a nice start. Very fast service. Will definitely be back

We had booked a table for 4 adults and 3 children. Put in the booking we would need a high chair but that was difficult to get we had to ask twice before it materialised. The food choice was limited and I felt it was very expensive for what was served to us. We were not given a choice of sitting inside or out everyone was sat outside. We had a problem with fly's while we wer eating. Not sure I would return.

We visited on a whim. I want to return again very soon. The surroundings were beautiful, the food, delicious but the service we received from Jordan was impeccable. The Covid-19 measures in place made us feel secure. I highly recommend anyone to visit and hope Jordan is on shift and can give you the same attention to detail he gave to us!

We decided to take our eldest for their 18th birthday to the Worplesdon Place. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by a very polite lady who asked us all to use the hand sanitiser provided. It was fully explained that we weren’t allowed to stand or order from the bar and that it was table service via using the ‘Young’s On Tap’ app.The app was easy to use, I created an account although you can just use it as a guest and we had no problems ordering our drinks & food. Our order was brought to our table by a lovely polite lady who introduced herself as Sian. She made us feel very welcome and offered to help out if we had any problems ordering.Once you’ve ordered it saves your card details which is great when ordering again. We had a lovely day sitting out by the lake watching the black swans in the sunshine.I don’t often do reviews but I really feel this place should have one that reflects the whole experience.I can highly recommend the Worplesdon Place in Guildford, lovely food & drink and excellent service! 5 stars

We visited today for a family birthday. Having not been a huge fan already of this place, we thought we would try out the “new” version. Let’s just just we shall NOT be returning and we do not recommend this place unless you fancy some below average food/service/experience. Whilst I appreciate it had only been open for 4 days or so, the staff was clueless, and the service shocking. The menu was basic and uninteresting, and the food we did decide on, took almost an hour to reach us.... and was wrong anyway! After settling the bill, we we’re chatting in the car park prior to our departure, and were approached asking if we had paid the bill?!!! How horrific and rude, and unprofessional. Give this place a wide berth.

We visited as a couple, on their first evening of opening after lockdown. We were greeted by a member of staff who showed us to our outside table. A one way system was in place which worked very well. An app is available to use, but there were a few teething problems, but still not an issue to order food. All the staff were incredibly polite and friendly, and our waiter , Clay was lovely. Tables are spaced and arranged to make you feel safe and food delivered at an acceptable safe distance. The food was amazing and can’t fault a thing. If you want a nice setting to sit in on a summers evening, and fantastic food, then this is the place for you. Well done everyone at Worplesdon place, you deserve much success.

Nice to see Worplesdon Place reopen its restaurant under new management again. This time as Young’s. The past iterations have ranged from bad to OK but was very impressed with the food in the new Worplesdon Place. Really well cooked posh-pub/good restaurant food and a wide menu with excellent desserts. Staff very friendly. It’s a great pity that their opening night was also their last night due to Covid-19 restrictions, but when they reopen, I hope food and service can resume where it left off on the 20th March, and I’d encourage people to give the place another try.

Our first and last visit to Worplesden Place as wanted to try somewhere new and were disappointed with the quality of food. Two of the party had the beef roast and the beef was good but I had the lamb and it was more fat than meat, the yorkshire puddings even though very big were soft and as well as the childrens hot dog rolls being very hard which they were unable to eat am therefore giving three stars as would have expected better quality food than we recevied. we were also charged for another tables drinks which luckily we spoted and did also recevie a refund for the childrens food which was appreciated.

The Sunday roast experience was not a good one! The potatoes were under cooked, the very large yorkshire pudding was soggy in the middle, the vegetables cold and the gravy, well actually not gravy just grease that had obviously come out of the chicken.was not pleasant. We will definitely not be eating there again.

You always worry that your Christmas lunch might not live up to your expectations when you book it away from home, but we were not disappointed with our afternoon at Worplesdon Place. Thankfully, it was all prebooked so menu choices weren't an issue. The whole serviced flowed well, the food all came together (there were 6 of us), it was very tasty, and our waiter was an absolute delight. I thought it was very good value for money too. It certainly took the stress out the family rows re: loading and unloading the dishwasher!!!

Having experienced Young food and beer, thought this place would be good for a New Years Eve lunch and a drink. How wrong could I have been. No Special, ordered a half and half, Winters Warmer was off, surely you prepare and check your beer before opening! I was served the beer and had to point out it had gone!. Was told Special would be on in an hour or so, was there 1.5 hous, never appeared. Stayed for food, having been told there would be beer, 2 meals good, 2 1 ok , 1 absolutely awful, carlves liver still with connecting tissue, overcooked and tough. Only asked if OK when paying, told waitress, she said she would get the manager, waited 10 minutes, nobody appeared.Gave up, surely pre-pared food shoud be easy to get right, worst Youn's experience ever, over priced rip off, no obvious signs of management, absolute bloody rubbish!

We decided to have a family lunch at Worplesdon Place but we were treated very rudely for some reason by one of the staff members. We were first told to pick any table that didn't have a reserved sign on it, which we did. About 5 minutes one of the staff members came over and asked to see our "booking reference"...? We said we didn't have one, we're just walk-ins and he told us we have to leave that table as it's reserved. That's fine mistakes happen I thought and maybe they forgot to put the "reserved" sign on this table. However, he then walked off very abrupty. His tone was very short and rude from the word go. We were perfectly calm, didn't argue or get upset. We just found this staff member to be unnecessarily rude and it ruined our experience. It was supposed to be a nice family get-together at a country pub but it was cut short thanks to the unnecessary rudeness of a single staff member. We won't be going back and will advise all our friends and contacts to avoid this establishment.

I wrote a review of this place over the summer saying the setting and food were superb and very well priced, the only problem was the shockingly rude and gruff bar staff. Well, we went back a few weeks ago. And walked out. We asked for the sandwich menu and I guy handed it to us. I suggested this was not the sandwich menu and he said “yes it is, you can have any of those as sandwiches”. I suggested that a bubble and squeak sandwich and a steak and chips or sausage and mash sandwich seemed a bit unlikely. He went to get our drinks and I spotted another staff member and asked if he could help and he said “no, he’s dealing with you” very nastily. Same rude bloke (red hair) as before. We finished our drinks and left. Looking at some of the other reviews, it seems many people experience this sort of treatment. Also, why get rid of the old sandwich menu? You’ve last another two regulars now thanks to your behaviour. Shame.

Firstly, had booked a table when booking a room, only to be told they had no record of the restaurant booking, so not a great start, and despite the fact that I could have shown them confirmation they insisted that we hadn't booked. I almost wish they hadn't got a vacant table now, because the meal was one of the worst I have ever had. We waited 40 minutes for our meal. I ordered the spatchcock chicken and mash, which was lukewarm and I struggled to find more than about three mouthfuls of chicken. I did not feel that two scoops of mash and three mouthfuls of chicken constituted a meal, especially costing £16. My friend had a burger which he said was good, but was let down by the cheap, cold, oven fries. We did complain and were offered a free dessert, which we did not want, so instead they did not charge me for my glass of pineapple juice! I have been to the Worplesdon Place many times over many years, although not for several years, and I find it very sad that it has deteriorated so much.

This is the type of service I have consistently received at this place: you order your meals (nothing too fancy, some eggs, a burger, fish and chips...), you wait for more than an hour and nothing happens. Then you enquire at the counter and it turns up that they've screwed up your order and given your food to someone else. Clearly they have a problem cause their tables are not numbered like any big standard pub, but they don't care, they keep going that way. Then you get to wait half an hour longer and (maybe) they'll get your food. Only recommended you have loads of time to waste.

We come here regularly for lunch. The food is great and the staff are generally very friendly and welcoming. They always come out with colouring for the kids and a biscuit for the dogs. The outdoor space is a great place for the kids to run and play, with a good size kids play area. The indoor space is spacious, warm and homely, with dogs welcome inside and out. It can be a little too busy and slow at weekends but during the week is great. The food is really great, and have never had any problems with the quality

Visited on a weekday lunchtime. Sat outside in the garden. The trip to the bar to order food took ages with only 1 person serving a large queue. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, there just weren't enough of them. The food was good portion sizes. My only quibble was that some of the cheese in my sandwich was the hard rind from the end of the cheese, other than that the food was very good. Back to the bar to order puds - same problem again - no staff and even longer queue! It has the potential to be a good place to eat, with a few tweeks.

We went for a family meal last night. The food was adequate without being in anyway special. It’s hard to put a finger on the issue, but the whole atmosphere and bar service just felt rough around the edges. Not sure how long Youngs have owned it (not long I’d guess, as it’s not yet Youngs branded) but it feels like there’s a great opportunity for them to bring the whole offer up a number of notches, sprinkle the Young’s magic dust on it and make it a place that local people like us really want to go to for a civilised, fun evening out.

It took me 15 minutes to order my food at the bar. When I approached the manager about this, she unapologetically ordered me back into a different queue. The staff dealing with the long queue of orders were too tired and stressed to do anything but a perfunctory order when we got to them with no proper courtesy shown. When it arrived: large portion of roast chicken good; spiced cauliflower salad just LOTS of lettuce and nothing else. They did the right thing though and refunded my £12 for this. The inside of this building has been gutted out without any character left. We will go elsewhere in future.

Visited for a meal with friends and colleagues as part of an end of term treat. We had booked a table and were seated promptly. Place looked nice; not too busy for a Friday night. From then on everything went downhill. It took ages for our order to be taken, a long wait for drinks and an even longer wait for our meal. We had all decided not to have starters (thank goodness) but said we would have dessert. After we had finished our main course we decided to forgo dessert as it was in danger of clashing with breakfast. Another long wait for our bill and even then they seemed reluctant to take our money. The food was OK but certainly not worth spending 2 hours on one course.

We had booked for a girls lunch, one of our group is a coeliac sufferer, and we found that there was absolutely nothing on the menu that she was able to eat! We were quite surprised, even the two or three vegetarian options had gluten, so my poor friend had to sit and watch us all eat a meal, and left our get together early so that she could go and eat something! Very poor menu in this day and age.

We have been to Worplesdon Place a number of times. The food is very good. Sadly the last visit was spoiled by the service. We were shown our table and 30 minutes later we had to find a member of staff to get served for drinks and order food. The place was busy but not overrun and staff were stood around at the bar. Previous visits have always been good and the staff very engaging, it is just a pity that this time the staff were found lacking. We explained to the head waiter who apologised for the service.

Annoyingly Nando’s was full so we ended up going next door for the worst dining experience ever. Warned as we arrived that they didn’t have much food in stock… but that was ok, we just wanted burger and chips, which they had. When ordering on the app, (as no one came to our table after we were sat down) I forgot to make it “two” child meals. I went to the till straight away to explain, but was greeted with a real attitude of “I’m not interested in helping you” After a few minutes of the guy faffing on the machine and constantly telling me he can’t promise anything to correct the order(!) (it was simply to add the kids meal reduction, which the deal was kids get a £2 meal with an adult meal)…. I just said I’ll happily just cancel it and redo it if it’s too much trouble, which was met with more huffing and puffing. I finally bit the bait and said I’ll just cancel the whole order then and go some where else, to which he quickly then said, oh it’s ok I’ll just comp it as it’s only £2. So after that fiasco, I felt like we’d finally got somewhere, but considering we were only one of the two tables being served, or should I say, NOT being served or waited on… it took over 30 mins to receive our cold food. We heard a bell ring from upstairs 20 minutes after ordering, but the staff ignored it. I assume that was our food, and probably why we got I cold 10 mins later. Just before our food arrived, I followed the sign to the toilets, but half way up the stairs I got shouted at and told they were out of order. I just replied “I was following the sign”, and the guy said “oh, checking on your food were you?” (As the kitchen was upstair)… I mean, probably a good thing, as our food then arrived, so again, I took that as a win. But, the fries were ridiculous, so thin, cold and hard. Our children’s burgers were burnt round the edges. My wife’s burger was tiny and tasteless. No one came over to check in on us, or ask about the food. Staff were just leaning at the counter on their phone, and instead of waiting us, were just waiting to go home. We ended up just leaving (as we’d already paid on the app) as no one came over, and I was too annoyed to go up and complain, we just wanted to leave at that point. Everything seemed to be a big effort for these guys, and anything they said was incredibly insincere and baiting for some sort of argument?! It was the most bizarre, awkward atmosphere I’ve ever experienced. On reflection and feeling really deflated about it the next day, I wish we had just left, but we just kept giving them the benefit of the doubt. Being nice doesn’t pay at this place. Avoid at all costs.

Very disappointing visit as used to be a lovely pub. No precautions in place for covid - no details being taken from visitors and just 1 small token bottle of hand sanitiser on the bar. Big groups of very young people (made me feel old in mid-30s!)with no attempt at social distancing. Toilets were dirty and smelly. Won't be going back!

Nice looking place but it stops there. We wanted cocktails but none to be had. The garden was pleasant but no cushions on the chairs and they could have done with a sweep. The loud fan was slightly off putting too. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Starter was pork belly, tasty but portions were far too big. Snapper with couscous and vegetables was tasty enough but far too big, we found it slightly off putting. The fennel was so hard despite asking for a steak knife was inedible. I felt like we were having home cooked food to be honest. It needs refinement

Very disappointed. Bland over cooked greasy food. Service is slow even though not busy. The takeaway has been in the village as long as I’ve been alive but unfortunately a few years ago it got taken over by a new family and has gone down hill ever since. First time we had been in about a year as it wasn’t great last time but gave the benefit of the doubt but definitely won’t bother again. Over priced over cooked slop.
