Not too bad, food was ok and the place was clean, although service could be better. Maybe a little refresher on customer service?

Absolutely horrified to be served this tonight and told this is not mould in a Yorkshire pudding as it was cooked fresh first thing this morning. The burgers smelt of rotting meat to be told we are likely just after a free meal yet my bill was still £122.00 will not be visiting again nor will the other 5 in our party

Driving past on a Sunday so decided to call in. The young lady behind the bar didn't really seem enthusiastic to seat us, it wasn't that busy so not sure why? We where seated and eventually ordered drinks and food. Due to covid all orders where table service, most of the staff seemed to stand behind the bar as if they didn't want to deal with the customer. When the food arrived it was warm and delicious. The staff appeared in experienced and didn't really provide a service. When it came to paying the young girl came to the table and shoved the card machine at us, didn't even speak. Quite rude if I'm honest.

We went on Wednesday 12th August for my birthday. The steak and ale pie was delicious with a good selection of perfectly cooked veg. The roast beef was a very generous portion. Service was very good, polite staff coped well in these difficult times. Short acceptable waiting time, the waitress came back twice too ensure everything was OK. Extra good value as we took advantage of the Gov. subsidy, an absolute bargain price. We live near and will continue to visit the Woolpack.

Great Garvey - great meats - great stuffing - great gravy - great horseradish - great red cabbage - you can probably guess we liked the food!! Also the staff were attentive and so helpful - asked for a few extra roast potatoes for my daughter and they said “sit down relax we’ll bring some over for you!” Great service and lovely friendly feel. My 11 year old daughter made me pinky promise we would come back every Sunday - I agreed :)

We came here for a birthday party on a Saturday night. We arrived early and got a seat in the conservatory so we could enjoyed the sunshine. The carvery had generously portions and very tasty. we helped ourself to plenty of veg. All was well cooked and presented. Disabled parking was Close by. Sadly the rail behind the conservatory was unsafe (wobbly) and made my access difficult up and down the steps. It also a fire exit so it needs to be safe.

Used to come here years ago as it was always a better class of food etc, my friend and I visited for an evening meal, the staff were pleasant as was the dining area however the food let them down. The starters were ok, we ordered mains both Surf and Turf one steak medium, one steak rare. The meals were fetched and I immediately knew my rare steak was anything but, I asked my friend to check hers just in case they had been presented wrong, as hers was medium I spoke to the waitress who apologised and offered to take mine away and agreed when I said, when I ask for rare I expect to see red juices etc. A second steak was eventually presented to me and this again was over cooked. The waitress did a table check and asked if all was ok, again I said the steak wasn’t rare and I showed her it, as my friend was eating I said I would keep it. Both our steaks were thin hence why mine was over cooked. The plates were swimming in juice which we believe was from the vine tomatoes, the onion rings seemed more batter than onion and the whole meal was tasteless, without salt and vinegar the prawns would have been wasted. The chips were hard and peas bland. The Eton mess desserts we ordered had far too much cream and not enough meringues or strawberry . All in all we both felt it was a waste of £60+ for a midweek meal. Sadly we won’t be going again.

Called here after recent review in Examiner, and were expecting a good sunday lunch, the choice of meat and veg was very good, but noticed the gravy to be quite watery! on tasting the food, the beef was dry and almost impossible to cut, my wife leaving hers and eating the turkey instead, we mentioned this to a waitress when she asked us about the meal, she apologised and said she would inform the chef, however heard nothing furthur!! Disapointing that the beef was like this, and gravy so thin, and heard nothing furthur about this.

After having read a very positive review of the Woolpack carvery in the otherwise execrable Huddersfield Examiner local rag we thought we’d have our Sunday lunch here. There’s a good choice of beers behind the bar (we had Black Sheep and Landlord bitters) and the service was friendly and welcoming. The gentleman at the carvery talked us through the roasts of the day (beef salmon joint, turkey and glazed gammon) and served generous portions of each of them. There was a wide selection of self-serve vegetables along with a huge Yorkshire pudding, gravy and various sauces. The meat was cooked perfectly (although the gammon was a touch salty for my partner’s taste), and the vegetables were well seasoned and tasty. We didn’t try dessert on this occasion but the menu was appetising. Overall this was an excellent meal and at less than £30 for the two of us (including drinks) it was good value too.

We are fans of the Woolpack which is out in the country on Whitley Road. It has had some ups and downs in the past but the present owners have turned it back into a great place to eat and drink. The food is good value, very high quality and you get plenty of it. There is a daytime menu up to 6pm and we had two courses for £10 each with a bottle of house wine for £10.95. The full menu and specials are also really great and the staff are really friendly and helpful. I would recommend giving it a try.

We have been coming to The Woolpack quite regularly for the last year or so mainly on a Sunday, the food has always been excellent however on our visit yesterday they have now introduced a carvery on a Sunday. We did not think this would be a problem as they do other meals as well. I ordered the steak pie as this is always good but were then told that the vegetables which used to be served in dishes at the table were now help yourself from the carvery. I would not have ordered if we had known this and gone somewhere else.

Come here quite a lot for the Sunday lunch set meal which is normally lovely! However today everything just seemed off (maybe because it had more customers in although it wasn’t necessarily busy); we were waiting for 15 minutes for our table which is acceptable but we watched a waitress setour table then wander off for a few minutes, then when she came to tell us our table was ready she didn’t indicate which table actually was ours so we just guessed. One really disappointing thing was the lack of vegetarian options on the menu, as there was only one vegetarian main which was a vegetable lasagna and didn’t appeal to me so I had to have a starter as a main (meaning I had a really small main and had to eat some of my family’s food). Moreover because I ordered a starter the staff may have been confused as I was left waiting for my main whilst everyone else had been given theirs and their side dishes.

I had high hopes for our meal but when it arrived I was very disappointed with what came. The starters were “ok”, my daughters steak was mostly fat and came with onion rings, tomatoes etc despite being order without, the chips were extremely greasy. The deserts were not great either, my creme brulee was not set, the chocolate fudge cake was dry and the crumble was like dust on the top of the very sour fruit as it had not been into the oven. Needless to say we will not be going back.

We visited the Woolpack yesterday evening (17th December), a party of 10 we had pre-ordered the festive menu. At £30 per head we expected the food and service to be better than average as the bill would be £300 + drinks. The table was ok we had a cracker each but I would have expected the cutlery to be laid out not just lumped in containers for us to sort our own (not at this price). Starters were ok not great just ok, main courses not good at all my personal choice was chicken which was overcooked to the point of resembling wood. Then the disaster of the deserts Christmas pudding without a hint of taste, tiramasu dry then covered in acres of cheap cream no taste at all of alcohol, chocolate mousse with the consistency and taste of a poor Angel Delight (that would have actually been better than this), the only taste in all the deserts was sugar to the point of setting our teeth on edge. We were then offered deserts from the main menu but by then it was too late. Coffee with little taste again and mince pies which non of us felt like trying. Service was ok but constantly being asked if everything was ok for "you guys" did grate a bit when I pointed out that there were dolls as well as guys I was told that it was an American phrase-well that's ok then it had slipped my mind that Whitley was in the USA. At no point did anyone of any seniority seem to wonder why uneaten food was going back to the kitchen. What a missed opportunity Woolpack 10 regular diners (we as a couple dine out most Saturday evenings) and none of us ever likely to return here again. It was a very poor value for money evening you should have done much better

Decided to try here for lunch with friends after looking for somewhere with good beer and nice food. We were not disappointed with either and will definitely be back. The Sunday lunch was magnificent and was thoroughly enjoyed by all 4 of us. We all ordered pate to start and all cleared our plates - perfect ratio of toast to pate. Desserts were a mixed bag. The chocolate bread and butter pudding messed with my head but it was great. The sticky toffee pudding was the least liked and didn't really look like a typical sticky toffee pudding, but the only thing I would say to this is we will order a different dessert next time - there was plenty of choice. Thanks for making this lunch great for us as we had a long overdue catch up.

A really great Sunday lunch with everything on the carvery you could wish for. A choice of three roast (or a bit of each) with a well cooked Yorkshire Pudding, really fresh veg and lashings of gravy and condiments. All washed down with a cask ale. I can't remember how much it cost as someone else paid, but it was only about £8.00. The staff were really nice and friendly (top Yorkshire folk) and they had a wide choice of seating areas. As it was a lovely sunny day, the conservatory was absolutely boiling hot - so I wouldn't recommend that, but the main bar area was nice and cool. We didn't have room for dessert, but there was quite a wide choice on offer. The carvery is open from lunch though the afternoon to evening service - so no rushing us out after we'd finished our food. A nice relaxing experience.

Returning to an old haunt which used to be very popular but had lost its reputation, I heard they had refurbished the bar and restaurant, so returned full of hope ... Oh dear. The old restaurant has gone it's now an open plan "pub" lighting is poor so first impression is 'dull'. Welcomed at the door by a drunk floosy having a fag, who later shoted loudly in the bar and swore like a trooper while snogging her boyfriend (classy !).The only other guests appeared to be locals who behaved like yobs, swearing loudly and making risque phone callse for all to hear, two of them sat on a window sill with their feet on the rediator while joking with the barstaff. I'm sure the owner who spent a fortune on the refurb is thrilled about that. The food - very average nothing special and a bit tasteless but edible, however rather overpriced compared to other local pubs. All in all a rather depressing experience - what was once a thriving popular and quality restaurant reduced to a pub, which will probably end up the way of many other pubs - SHUT.

I am only giving three stars as one of the staff members was v rude. She told me to stop being rude when I told her my order was incorrect on drive thru. When I got to window she gave me the wrong order. She then said I had asked for it. I said she would have heard my order if she didn't keep speaking over me. All the other staff were lovely and someone else took over the order. I have worked in service and I know how challenging it can be. However I was never rude.
