Winckley Street Ale House in Preston

Have fancied trying here for a while and wish we had gone sooner! It is deceptively spacious inside with tables to sit at. The staff are very friendly. I am not an ale drinker but my husband was very impressed with the selection. Plenty of other drink options aswell. Now on to the best bit, the food!!! The homemade pies are delicious, I went for the steak and blue cheese with mash and peas, good portion size and it tasted amazing. Will definitely be back to try the other options on the menu.

Excellent service, food was beautiful, my dog was very welcomed and the bartender was extremely accommodating. Lovely place.

This is a cracking pub with a good selection of beers and a vibrant atmosphere, outdoor seating is available on the street outside the pub.

Great array of beers, cask and keg, with friendly knowledgeable staff. Gorgeous food at reasonable prices. Dog friendly and definitely a place that you could go on your own.

A fine little Ale house, usually serving up a respectable 4 or so cask beers, which is what I'm here for. There's usually at least twice as much variety on offer in bottles and cans. The tables outside are a bonus for rare sunny spells; otherwise inside is snug enough with plenty of scope for conviviality if that's what you're after. Food tends to be basic, but still good. Toilets are clean...

Great place with a good selection of great beers. Small amount of seating outside too, to watch the world go by.

Fantastic ale house, lovely staff behind the bar, great atmosphere. Only thing is it stinks of urine and stale beer. Will still go back though, but with the lads and not the Mrs. Visited on 24th Nov and 29th Dec 2023 👍

Great beer and a very friendly welcome.

I had one ambition today, and that was to sample the legendary Lancashire “butter pie”. I came, I ate, I conquered. Top scran, 10/10, would eat again.

Just popped in for a beer. Barman very knowledgeable and friendly.

Super little place, great music, even greater drinks selection. Owner is fun and friendly, and very knowledgeable about the products! I’d absolutely recommend this place to everyone who enjoys craft beers and ales.

A CAMRA Good Beer Guide pub. Popped in on a cold November evening with Madge and Jorvic. Good selection of four real ales. Decided on trying two half pints. One was a Glasshouse brewery 4.6% Pale Ale..a bit too floral for me. Also a 5% cinder toffee Porter from Docks brewery, very good. Good atmosphere on a busy evening.

Had a lovely lunch with my teenaged daughter, she had loaded fries and I had the pasta, so lovely, nothing left, will definitely go again very soon.

Lovely little boozer where the beer's always on form. Great to see a commitment to well-kept cask, often with something dark and tasty on one of the handpulls. Good range of keg ales too, from table beer to hazy IPAs to delicious imperial stouts. Comfortable spot to pop in for a pint and do a crossword, or to set up camp for a few hours with a bunch of friends. I can't speak for the food as I've never eaten there, but who cares when the beer's so good?

Great ... Solo visit...only downer mens loo..it's also solo in size and needs a deep clean or refit... Friendly guy behind bar , popular nice atmosphere...great choice of draughts...shame about loo...not designed for big lads...no cats swung in cubicle here!

Nipped in for some dinner with my wife and had steak pie, mash, peas and gravy. The pie was so tasty and atmosphere was great. Defo be back for a spot of lunch and a pint 🙂

One of the few tap houses that will always have a high quality selection available.

It was ok, nothing special, plenty of choice of real Ales and IPA's. The price was on the high average. Not my cup of tea so to speak. Although it was busy so perhaps just me.

My first time here, and I am seriously impressed with the selection of craft beers on and cans too. The manager owner so welcoming and helpful. I be definitely back soon.

What can you say. A fantastic little place tucked away down Winkley Street. Called in on a few occasions , and have always found the staff to be great.The Beer selection is superb, and some cracking music played in the background (not to loud). Not tried the food yet. Make sure you pay a visit next time you are in Town.

We nipped in here for a quick drink whilst shopping. It’s a cool little place tucked just off Fishergate, whilst we didn’t dine the food looked very good. The bar features a top selection of ales to suit all tastes and the staff seemed very knowledgeable. I opted for a schooner of Amen Break which is a fruity NEIPA. Very nice indeed. We’ll certainly be back soon to sample the other offerings.

Not sure if they do food, and only been the once, but I'd guess not. A real eclectic crowd and for the older discerning beer/ale drinkers a small, but great, selection of beers on tap.

Jonny is a superb host and his beer selections are perhaps the best in Preston 🍺😎

This Croft Pub is in a different level with a wide variety of craft beers on tap ,something for everyone. The atmosphere is inviting and cozy, with rustic decor and very friendly staff ready to help you choose the perfect brew. This Croft Pub is definitely worth a visit. My very favourite place now.

Been several times, staff are always friendly. Is the best place in Preston for craft ale lovers, with new ones on each week. Not the largest of places though there are some booths with comfy seats. Highly recommended !

An outstanding selection of craft ales to suit all palates. Friendly and knowledgeable people behind the bar. Great music played at a non-intrusive volume adds to an ambience of general comfort, in which you could spend many contented hours.

Brilliant choice of beers, food menu was great,I had a pulled pork baguette, BBQ sauce and fries washed down with a cool pint of brakespeare ale,I can't recommend this place enough, good service and information,sit inside or out on a sunny or windy day ,adds to it's character.The management has changed and it's atomosphere is now very dead

Updated April 2023: The Ale House is a great place to be after it’s revamp and reopening! They have a great collection of beers and the food is just as good as before! Shame they’ve stopped taking American Express!

Great independent Ale House in the old part of Preston. Good range of beers and lagers and excellent home made food. The pies are exceptional! Will visit again and look forward to the outside seating in the summer.

Nice little ale house. Craft beer served. And Guinness. Friendly staff. I didn't have one yet but the pie and mash looked fantastic. Worth a visit if you are in town.

Nice friendly place with quality cask ales as well as craft, plus a well stocked chiller. Cask was £5.15 a pint.

Originally 4 stars because I didn't know they had food, BUT I looked again, and holy hell the chicken and ham pie was 😚👌 Everything is great. Wish the door would fully close automatically, but top notch place aside from that simple fix!

Best bar in Preston! Very dog friendly, food is incredible and the beer selection is fantastic. It's usually difficult to find beers I like but the selection here is really good, something for everyone. Jonny makes you feel right at home. Can't recommend highly enough.

Very good pub in a former shop not far from Preston Station. Four cask beers on handpump when I visited including a stout. Not too busy before the Spurs game at Deepdale.

Nice place, and patient, knowledgeable barman who took the time to help me find a drink I'd like. I'm sure we'll be back! Update: We did return, this time to try the food which is excellent!

Shocking. They've cleaned and brightened the place up. Ale and food still as generally good as you'd expect. But being brighter and more welcoming as you walk through the door? Terrible. 5 stars, would drink here again.

Went with my other half, he loved the beers and would have loved to stay longer! Shame there wasn't a coffee machine for me the designated driver but the reason was explained to me, so I will let them off. We will definitely be back

An outstanding alehouse. Always love the vibe and the crowd. Good convo with the barman and a fine rotating selection of really good breweries.

Fantastic pie’s, impeccable service and lovely decor. The chicken pie and the blue cheese steak pie were both sublime. The pie’s are not too heavy, with puff pastry being used with a perfect amount of mash on the side. I highly recommend a visit!

The Cosy Breakfast was absolutely fantastic. We sat outside enjoying lovely views over the sea. Will definitely return when next in the area.

Small, well appointed, micro pub with interesting selection of cask beers

Excellent beer and a good and ever changing range of beers. The young women behind the bar was friendly and welcoming and we had terrific pies with mashed potato. The chicken, ham hock and tarragon was lovely, just the right hint of tarragon. The pies are quite flat to look at almost like a round pasty but very tasty nonetheless. It was lunchtime and alarmingly quiet. I sincerely hope this place is bouncing at night because I worry it will close otherwise. My only complaint it was very cold inside. There was no way I could have taken my coat off. This is not a fancy establishment, it's all about the beer and people need to go.

Very busy bar on a lovely cobbled side street off the main shopping zone. Outdoor seating. The decor inside feels quite like a school canteen - looks quite cool. The place looks quite grubby with dirty tables & & used plates & cutlery in them. I like craft beers & visited quite a few local bars the same day in the city but this place is so overpriced compared to the other local craft beers bars. The whole place looks like it needs a deep clean, refresh & new management. Poor - I won't be visiting again.
