Been coming to this pub for years , usually before a PNE football game . The pizzas have always been great but the new items on the menu are just fantastic . Belly pork , ribs and the potatoe tots are so tasty and everything is reasonably priced . There is now too much choice and it’s difficult to know what to have . Compliments to the chef . The beers on offer are ever changing and the staff too deserve a pat on the back . This pub is well worth a visit

Ordered 2 pepperoni pizzas and 1 margherita, plus two portions of 'chunky chips'. No complaints about the margarita, but the pepperoni wasn't nice at all. It didn't taste like pepperoni, more like salami which we aren't a fan of. Had to take all 'pepperonis' off to eat it. Other than that, it was a nice pizza. The chips are described as chunky and double cooked! They were anemica and floppy, and not particularly chunky either and nobody ate them! Really dissapointed to be fair.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This is a fine traditional pub slightly outside of Preston City centre and marooned by an unsympathetic road development and was probably the second best of all the pubs I visited during my weekend in town, beaten only by the historic Black horse hotel in the centre of town Internally it is three separate spaces, none of which are particularly large, but when put together provides a decent amount of vertical drinking space in the main bar room and seating areas also in the main bar and then the two additional rooms to the left as you enter. The first room on the left to the front of the pub is light and airy benefiting from the large windows where as the back room is perhaps slightly more cosy but darker with no natural light except for that coming from the glass panel on the top of the wall between the two rooms. The serving area to the right of the main bar room virtually runs the length of the room and supports 10 real hand pumps and 10 keg taps. But these are spread out across the bar and it’s initially difficult to see what is on and it’s actually easier to peruse the large chalkboard to the right of the entrance as you come in. For my Thursday evening visit all 10 keg taps were in operation and eight of the real ale pumps were in use providing a good mixture of non-mainstream brewers and different ale styles. These included Anarchy Brewing Dance in the Desert IPA, Empire Brewing What a View Pale Ale, 4T’s Elvis Peachley Peach IPA, and Twisted Wheel All Mod Cons. I tried the remaining three during the course of the evening, Wild Child Glutenous Maximus sticky toffee milk stout ( absolutely bloody gorgeous), Phoenix Brewery Arizona ( very decent considering it must have been near the end as it had finished before we went back for another) and Durham Brewery Equinox ( very decent also). All ales up to 4.6% abv were priced at £3.80 a pint with a couple of higher abv ones at £4.20 and my initial 4.8% stout at £4 a pint. The craft keg offerings were also from an eclectic mix of brewers, some of which I have never heard of and included brews from Cassels, Burnt Hill, Vault city and Squawk Brewing. The usual 1/2 and 2/3 measures with most priced at £5 and above for 2/3rds. Food is available from the kitchen out the back in the form of a varied pizza menu and we went for a couple of these during the evening and they were substantial and reasonably priced. I was attracted to ‘The Northerner’ due to its black pudding topping. But be warned you really have to like black pudding if you go for this option. Not sure if it is every Thursday but our evening was interrupted by being bingo night and the arrival of a bingo caller selling cards for a quid I believe, where you can win a free drink for all four corners, your money back for a line and the heady sum of 15 quid for a full house. Initially thought it would be naff but the guy played it for laughs ( very politically incorrect call for number 10 for example) and most of the pub participated and it actually generated a lot of conversation between the tables. Had lined up the Cassels Triple Cream Milk Stout as the most expensive beer available at £7.50 for 2/3rd but got nowhere near a sniff of all four corners. This is a fine pub for good ale and conversation and you won’t be distracted by TV’s in here. But if you are the type that must have a TV with your pub going experience then the nearby Princess Alice is just a five minute walk away.

I was going to wait til after the football match for this review! There’s always a danger with that… excellent ale selection, nice pizza and friendly staff (and locals). If you’re coming as an away fan for the football, there’s a little car park behind the pub that’s less than £3 all day and a 15-20 min walk to the ground! Now, all we need is the home team to give us 3 points.

I have ate number of homemade pies at this pub - Always delicious and amazing.I highly recommend the pies. I ate the lamb and mint pie, this was delicious and tasty. The improvement I would make to the pie would be, to use less mint herbs. Currently, the mint is overpowering my taste buds and seems to leave me with a bitter taste and while eating it.I loved the chicken and mushroom pie too. great tasting too and great filling.Homemade gravy, pies and mash delicious. I would recommend that you place a nob of butter with the mash. It will give the mash a smoother texture.I believe the pie is slightly overpriced. I would like the price to be priced between £5 - £7. I do like the Moorbrook. I enjoyed their annual birthday celebration weekend. However, taking the family to the best beer pub a few days later, sadly it looked tired and grubby with virtually no choice in cask or keg beers. Ok, they have had a very busy time the weekend before, but part of the planning for such an event is how to bring the operation up to scratch post event - making sure there are several beers being racked, basic stuff like making sure the pub is clean. At least the pizzas were up to standard; well, except for the vegan one - hummus on a pizza, really? There's a reason why the Italian's stick to the tried and tested!

Superb beers, both real ale and craft. Best craft ale pub I have been in and I have tried a few! Now doing pizza though yet to sample; maybe next visit. What more does a man need, except a free lift home; she'll be here in a minute.

Popped in for lunch and a drink with a friend yesterday. Many years since I visited. We ordered the traditional pie lunch. I chose steak and ale, it came with small garlic potatoes, pot of peas and lovely gravy. Good choice of pies offer and of course "real ale". Excellent value for money. nice outside area and parking to the rear

Finally made first visit after. The pub has a good feel about it. The selection of ales is good and the one I tried was really good. Ordered the cheese and onion pie. It was homemade and really tasty (not sure about the amount of garlic in it tho!). Will defiantly go back and would recommend if you're a late night DIYer !

Down from the frozen north to my old Deepdale stamping ground for yet another disappointing afternoon, made worse by the fact that my girlfriend supports the opposition, Derby County.Liquid anaesthetic was required to cope with the gloating and a number of quality beers were enjoyed in the company of former work and football friends. The pain gradually diminished and we enjoyed several hours in a traditional, unspoilt pub. Not many of those in Preston nowadays. A cracking match day, spoiled only by the match!

If you like a traditional pub that has not been ruined by the brewery giants, that offers a fantastic range of real ales at sensible prices, serves up proper pub food and the occasional BBQ, often puts on live music and supports PNE then The Moorbrook is your perfect location.

This pub has become my local even though it is a couple of miles from my home. But the range of beers for such a small pub is excellent. There is usually at least one light hoppy beer for me along with a stout or mild and cider. I recommend their own Moorbrook Pale Ale. They retain Thwaits Best bitter as this was thhe beer regulars to the pub years ago would be familiar with, a nostalgic touch. But the eighreal ale pumps, craft beers and bottles are only the start. The interior of the pub retains Victorial elagance that doesn't have the fussy cluttered feel of some. The beer garden is pleasant though you have to go through a door marked "Ladies" to get there! The menu is pretty much limited to pies, but these speciality pies are top notch and very filling. As I say, I'll be back.

I was disinclined to walk through the door when my boyfriend brought me here; I thought we'll make it a quick one. It's only a pub but it has so much going on - evening entertainment variety of drinks and a lovely beer garden round the back. What was meant to be a few quiet drinks turned out to be

In the last 12 months this pub has been transformed...You can see the passion, care and enjoyment the management have in everything done here. From the friendly welcome, classic pub food and well kept guest ales.We only popped in for a bite to eat but they couldn't have been more helpful. My pie was spot on and the recommended accompanying ale was a great addition! The beer garden outside is well kept, with it's own external bar for big events.Fantastic atmosphere in a pub that's back on the up and up! Hope they keep up the passion!Strongly recommend stopping by for a bite and a pint.

This is a small, excellent pub with loads of character, friendly helpful staff, good pies (hot and cold) and an excellent choice of real ales. Wine by the glass, cider, lager and a good selection of malt whiskies are available too. As I write it has just been awarded Central Lancashire Camra "Pub of the Season" and it is well deserved too. The lively varied music scene is also worth investigating.

Having spent many an 'appy hour in this establishment in the company of George Lee before he passed to the great ale house in the sky I visited after the recent referb. What a great boozer! Yes they do good food but for me the highlight is the beer selection and the ambiance. Friendly welcoming boozer just like the good old days. Don't expect a seat on match days! This pub deserves to be successful.

Called in here in the way to a PNE game. Packed but the atmosphere was buzzing. Home and away fans mixed and chatted. The beer was superb. A huge range and a wide choice of styles. Didn't eat but may do next time

A small proper pub, filled with happy friendly people and with an excellent range of guest beers - so welcoming and a good pint - my favourite the Wild Cat probably because it took me back to many fond memories of Norwich. Happily chatting with the manager and new and old friends - so much so I was disappointed when my taxi came to claim me! I will be back - hopefully soon

Went on a quiet mid week afternoon with my Dad as wanted to check out the refurb and the pies! The Moorbrook has had a great clean up but still retaining the original features with the addition of a pleasant outside area for a great summers day chill. I had Cheese and Onion pie with salad and pickles and a lovely pint of their Raspberry cider - Yum pie was MASSIVE that's what we like to see, I would have gladly spent whole day soaking it up trying vast array of drinks, but will save myself for other times with my definite return. My Dad even speaking of making a regular trip to visit me (the Moorbrook) as on the 40 bus route from the Fylde for those CAMRA enthusiasts!! I wish the Moorbrook well as well impressed!!

Food was almost perfect, had the full Lancashire breakfast, the sausage and bacon were top quality, my only grumble on the food side is my eggs were not runny. I got fried eggs with the breakfast, they weren't over cooked but the yolks were hard. The mushrooms were delicious, the cherry tomatoes on the vine were a great touch. I say almost perfect, I'm being picky, I would've said something but no one came and asked and no one took my plate before I left, I stayed a while as well. Don't be put off the place is done out really well and everything was clean and tidy, I'm being critical as it was almost perfect. Second time round, had breakfast again, asked for my fried eggs to have runny yolks and they did not disappoint. They don't take cash as I found out today but I had my card so no harm done. I still think the service is lacking slightly but won't stop me going back.
