We stayed here last night and what a lovely time we had 😁😁 the room not huge but more than adequate, it was nicely decorated (homely) with all the usual facilities including a great shower, toiletries, hairdryer and even a magnifying mirror! (Woman will understand!) John and his team are very funny, friendly and down to earth and extremely helpful. We also eat in the restaurant and the Thai food authentic, fresh and absolutely delicious. They are not doing breakfast at the moment but we went to ‘The Lemon Tree’ and had a superb breakfast. Thanks everyone we will be back! ❤️ xx

After a walk around Tenterden we returned to enjoy a good choice of beers and wine in the rear sun trap of a garden. Despite my wifes quite tricky dietary needs, the Thai chef made her the most enjoyable and tasty meal she has eaten out in a while and mine was superb! Cannot fault them for value, friendliness and being very attentive throughout our time there.

I have been looking forward to trying this takeaway for some time and decided to order for my last meal in Tenterden with my sister before we move away. Although the service was friendly, the food was not ready when we went to collect it. Not really much of a problem, but the real issue was the food. We had satay and fish cakes for starters. I don't know what was on the satay sauce, but it was very watery and completely tasteless. The fish cakes were rubbery and greasy. For mains, my sister had the pad that chicken which was greasy noodles with absolutely no taste, there was no sign of the ground peanuts. I had the drunken noodles. These were noodles, what appeared to be frozen vegetables and a great deal of chilli. Absolutely no sign of the bean shoots or the sweetcorn promised. All were swimming in grease. I really cannot explain how disappointed we were.

This was our first visit to the William Caxton, although only a short drive from home, was a great success. Our son suggested finding a Thai restaurant and we were really impressed with ‘Belle’s “ : the really fresh tasting food, which was perfectly cooked to order and great authentic flavour. You can mention if you prefer your food either more or less hot and it really was delicious. We ate in the dining room, which was quiet so we felt perfectly safe COVID - wise and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Chicken satay and the Thai beef curry were both tender and juicy, delicious.

Food ok but time to wait between courses very long wait, could understand it if the pub was busy but 16 people having meals, was about to walk out after waiting nearly an hour between Starters and main but they offered us free drinks on the meal. So they obviously know there is a problem in the kitchen maybe they should employ a proper chef!!!! won’t be eating here again in the near future

I had booked to stay at The William Caxton as it is a perfect location for a tour booked at The Chapel Down Winery, which I booked for my Twin, My brother in Law, my husband and myself, seeing as Chapel Down Winery is only a short 5 minute taxi ride. I had been in touch with the landlord John to arrange some surprises for my Twin on our birthday and John could not have been more accommodating. After us all meeting John, we would all agree John is such a lovely man and he makes a great landlord. We all felt very comfortable and he helped us with everything we needed and his staff were all so lovely too.Our rooms were all sparkly clean and our beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed a delicious Thai meal on the Saturday evening and our continental breakfast in the morning was not disappointing there was lots to choose from and was all tasty and fresh and that even included warm pastries and plenty to drink, as you are offered tea and coffee straight way and you could help yourself to juices. We would rate our stay 10/10 and we will definitely stay again at The William Caxton. Thank you John for helping to make our birthday weekend special.

The Caxton is a lovely pub. Because of its location at the bottom end of the High Street many visitors don't know about it so is mostly frequented by locals. We had heard good things about the Thai food they were offering on Thurs/Fri/Sat evenngs so went with some friends. The menu is fairly small but everything we had was very tasty, in particular the Massamum beef curry and Weeping Tiger sirloin beef. Would we go again? Absolutely!

We stayed on night as we had a trip on the local pullman train.we were greeted by a very pleasant landlord who was very friendly, he showed us to our room which i thought was not really worth the money but saying that it was clean and tidy with all the bits you expect. The pub itself is next to a busy road and as it was so hot we had to have the windows open, the the traffic noise was a little annoying as its on a tee junction, but we found ear plugs in the draw which worked, so not a bad night's sleep. we didn't eat in the restaurant as we had a meal booked on the pullman train. The breakfast in the morning is a continental type, not my favorite but there was plenty there so no need to go hungry.overall it was a very pleasant stay.

Needed to nip across the road to pick up an Indian from the Badsha (which incidentally was a very good take-away). Lack of parking on the road and only one vehicle on the pub forecourt, I stopped outside. Before I’d even locked the car, the landlord was out telling me I couldn’t park, I explained I was just picking up a takeaway. Super 7's lunch menu is really good value for money with generous portions for the price, garlic bread with cheese was yummy as was the freshly made apple crumble. Lovely, friendly bar staff made us feel very welcome even though it was our first ever visit. The only fault I can find is the lack of parking spaces but there are plenty of public car parks around and I certainly wouldn't let that put me off visiting again. We received an extremely friendly and warm welcome by the delightful staff, and they let us check in early, even upgrading us to their best room. Nothing was too much trouble. We then enjoyed a lovely pint in the warm sun at the end of their charming beer garden. The room was excellent - very clean and well-furnished, with a spa bath for a real treat. It was quiet and we slept very well. The full English breakfast the next morning was delicious and perfectly cooked, and served with a generously-sized cafetiere of coffee. I was with my wife and step-daughter for an afternoon out in Tenterden, and we decided we'd find somewhere for lunch before we took a stroll. Knowing from past experience that on a Saturday some of the town centre places could be rather busy we thought we'd try this place on the outskirts (well five minutes walk to the town centre).Decor is very much cosy traditional country pub with a few more trendy touches to brighten it up. Comfortable and not too pretentious. As it was just about warm enough though we ate in the sheltered rear garden.I had a Ploughman's lunch, my wife had soup and my step-daughter had whitebait. . All of us were happy with the food - not super fancy, but decent pub food.Staff were friendly and I enjoyed the pint, although the real ale selection wasn't great (it's a Shepherd Neame pub).Food prices were reasonable. I have visited The William Caxton a couple of times lately. Its a good, homely pub with good home cooking.I had a Chilli when I had a meal there. It was, I believe, classed as a snack, but it was big enough to be a full blown meal. It was a great chilli! I have also heard from a friend who had one of their Steak and Kidney pies. He said it was so big, he could not eat it all! Great value for money here for lovely foo and lovely service.

Lovely tradional pub with friendly, helpful landlord and staff. It was a busy night (folk singing and beer festival in bar) when we visited, and there was an initial problem with our food order. But when the food finally arrived, it was very good and the landlord apologised and gave us wine on the house to make amends. The bar staff were also very concerned to put things right and despite the delay, we had a very good evening at the William Caxton and will definitely go again.

I had a working lunch with half a dozen others. Warned off the pies, we chose "mere" pub grub and it was great!

The William Caxton has been through several landlords in recent times and everyone was looking forward to the new landlord with great hopes for the future, Tenterden needs this pub to be a success. BUT it was quite appalling. Arrived at 12.15 for bar meal, advertised opening 12 noon. Barmaid served drinks, we ordered food, some 10 minutes later she came over to say that the landlord (chef) was upstairs having a shower and it would be some 20 minutes before he came down, so our food would be a while. We were served the food (scampi and chips) just before 1.15pm. We were the only customers in the pub. The food was served almost cold on cold plates, and the chips were soggy, they had never seen a deep fat fryer, we suspect they were microwaved. At no stage did we see the landlord, when under the circumstances you would have thought he could have come and said "hello" and even apologised for putting his shower before our food!!!!!! We won't be going back.

At long last a pub in Tenterden I like, I went there with some friends for lunch and we were all delighted with the food we received. Simple things such as the chips were definitely made fresh and NOT frozen, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The beer was good as was the atmosphere, we will be back.

Sadly not a good choice. Only roast pork or beef on sunday. Friendly so wondered why so quiet?Impossible to do a roast porly? Just overcook it. Tried hard, just not in a nice atmosphere, food dull dull hardly passable in 2013 and many better places in the same street. They should visit the excellent Turkish with street tables a few hundred meters away.

A lovely friendly pub with proper fires and no games machines or juke boxes! There are only 3 or 4 rooms to stay in and these are access by going into the garden and back in through a separate door. The food was excellent when we stayed there, especially the breakfast when it seemed you could have near enough anything you wanted.

We ate on a busy Saturday night and even though the chef was dealing with a buffet, our meals arrived promptly and cooked to perfection. Our table had two of the DIY steaks which looked and tasted fabulous, the Lamb Tagine which my partner said tasted lovely and authentic, and I had the Chicken and roasted vegetable kebab which was simply amazing. After this we all had warm chocolate brownies which were the best we have ever tasted. All in all a wonderful and well priced meal in a nice pub.

As a local to the town I've been in here many times over the years. It's had a bit of a rocky/patchy time over the last few years with a few changes of management. However the landlady Debbie has turned it around and made it better than it ever has been. I've just taken my family there for Christmas dinner. The first time ever we've eaten out on Christmas day. It was a wonderful meal. Perfectly presented and tasted great. The service was excellent with all the staff happy and very pleasant. If you're visiting the town please come to the Caxton before you try any other pubs. If you want a decent British pub with great food and the best staff in town. Come here. Right at the end of the town. Don't be tempted to go anywhere else.

We visited this pub which is right at the end of the High Street in Tenterden for lunch. It is a good looking building although very pub like, ie a bit unclear as to what it would be like inside. As soon as we entered it was extremely friendly and beautifully decorated. We ordered a 'Caxton Burger' each from the very decent menu with a side order of onion rings. It did take a while to arrive but it was clear they were preparing our order from scratch so no problem there. We were totally overwhelmed when it arrived! It was huge and looked utterly delicious. It tasted even better than it looked and the onion rings were the biggest and freshest ever. Unbelievable value too at around £8.95 all in. I cannot recall a better pub lunch and I think this was the best burger I have ever had including holidays in the USA.Well done to this Pub, a great place in one of the nicest town's. I totally recommend a visit.

£9 for a pasta dish that my 10 year old could’ve made better in home economics ! Warm not piping hot and so basic it was grim and watery. Usually have a decent lunch here as sandwiches and jacket potatoes are good but honestly shocked at what our pasta was served like white paste !
