Cafe Madeleine in Ashford

Ordered breakfast for 2 of us and some toast and drinks. Food was not good. Hash brown that was mush on the inside and thinner than thin! Everything else was just warm and not enough butter for toast. Ordered a coffee got one with cream! Who puts cream on coffee and charges £5!!!!! Can't belive how rude the staff are. A family with a little one got called back to wipe the table as the little one had gotten some pen on it! The staff hadn't even tried to clean it. NOT A FAMILY FREINDLY PLACE. Rude staff, over priced luke warm expensive food. Would not recommend.

We walk to Cafe Madeline from around the corner as we remembers it was a Family run business with good food. When we go there it was reasonably busy but understood it was a Saturday so patiently waited for a table (wasn’t ideal as we had our disable 92 year old Nan who can’t stand or walk for long at all.) We got two tables next to each other as the tables are small squares so with us all eating and wanting drinks it would be a squeeze for 4 people let alone 5 adults. We was told we wasn’t allowed to do this to the tables. We explained that we would move them Back before we left but again was told ‘it down to the manager’ We looked around and saw quite a few couples sitting on the tables that would fit 5 or 6 people on and we confused as this wasn’t an issue. We was then told it because the table wobbled and we Tried the tables and they were totally fine. We then didn’t feel comfortable to eat there at all. As it was just a bit meh. So we Hooved up our Nan and had to walk again which isn’t ok because she is in so much pain. Also my sisters day for trying on wedding dresses and it put a huge dampener on the day.

Sullen service. Food was adequate but pretty stodgy. The decaf espresso was, surprisingly, quite good. BUT… the music, if you can call it that, was just awful, and very loud. It might explain why the waitress mis-heard our order and brought the wrong dish. We settled on this cafe as looking like the best of a really miserable bunch, but I suspect that was a mistake.

Popped in for a coffee which was a latte and was a very good and the service was very good to .

Went in here for a breakfast today and they are not willing to let you have scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs on a breakfast. Well who ever owns this cafe should understand that this is costing you money. Bit of a joke tbh. Its not that hard to scramble an egg really is it!!

When entering the cafe there were only seats/tables available for 2 people or 3 people, the tables for 6 and more were being used so we push two tables together to accommodate all 8 of us. We were then told the floor is uneven and we must not move the tables?????? The lady said a table across the other side was now available it would only sit 7. So as they were unable to accommodate us all we asked for a refund to be told NO! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE COFFEE! Sadly after trying to explain we can't all now sit together TO DRINK THE COFFEE, its not what we wanted I insisted on a refund I was told there is no management there to authorise a refund, I suggested they phone management to get it authorised the lady went into the kitchen for a while and eventually went back to the till and finally gave us our money back. We then went to the little teapot where they were very glad to accommodate all of us we had cakes tea coffee and sandwiches which all turned out to be much cheaper and were very tasty! Its a shame we always used to go to Madeleines but now we will always go the the little teapot. Much nicer, friendlier and cheaper!

It is a nice place, the food was good quality and fairly reasonably priced. We made a slight mistake in assuming the smoothie was lacto-free which it wasn't and the menu didn't specify but when we asked for a replacement (which we paid for) there was a spikeyness.

They serve ‘Shakshouka’ on the menu. I have never had a shakshouka that consists of fried eggs tomato slices and spinach, no seasoning, very bland no taste. Totally awful I complained-politely that this is not shakshouka that it was Absolutely tasteless and they told me that it was as described on the menu and refused to give my money back.

Looks nice inside, quite clean, good range of cakes and drinks. Quite a big choice on the menu. It's an Eastern European place which isn't obvious until you get in there and look at the menu. It has English food on there, breakfasts, baked potatoes etc., also pierogi which is filled pasta. We had a burger, a pierogi and a jacket potato. The burger wasn't beef but turkey, which it didn't say on the menu. You would expect it to be beef unless it specifically said different, and their reasoning was "we're Eastern European"! Erm... OK? The waitress seemed offended that we didn't finish it. Baked potato was OK, pierogi OK, and we shared an apple cake slice. TBH it's quite pricey for middling food. Not many choices in Ashford these days, but I doubt I'll go back. Prefer the Wimpy, at least the burgers are nicer!!

This café is very central in the town centre. It is clean inside and outside and presents itself better than many other outlets in this run down town centre. I ordered two teas with a friend and they were quickly prepared and the cups and teapot were large, of a nice design and clean. The tea tasted fine and the large teapot allowed for refills. It's a nice place to watch the world go by. The cafe has huge front windows too.

Lovely decorated cafe. Very clean and tidy. Friendly staff. Wonderful selections of foods (sweet and savoury). Lovely coffee. The gelato is absolutely to die for (the pistachio my favourite) haven't had a milkshake but with gelato that quality it can only be great. Absolutely would recommend to stop there and have a coffee, some food or treat yourself to a delicious waffle. I would say there is something for everyone on that menu.

Great food, including Polish sweet buns and cakes. Also, fantastic English and European breakfasts. I have never seen so many egg dishes. It gets busy by lunchtime, but the service is impeccable.

Egg mayo baguette was amazing, excellent service and lovely and quiet. Although can get really busy.

Oh my. Where do I even start. I ordered a slice of cake and ended up being given what looked like it was the size of a whole cake! Not only did it look good it tasted AMAZING. The milkshakes as well are the best I’ve ever tasted. After eating here I felt like I had eaten a whole meal. You 100% should go here.

I had Cafe Madeleine's all day vegan breakfast today. My first time in there, I found their vegan breakfast plate & friendly staff delightful! I forgot to take a picture, but it consisted of a good portion of cous cous (could be dull, but was the best cous cous I've ever had, swimming in garlic, & sort of looked like a scrambled egg replacer), lightly steamed young spinach leaves (again nicely garlicky), fried mushrooms, half an avocado, small dish of baked beans, toast. £8. I found this a really nice change from either a greasy fry-up, or stuff served with meat substitutes. (I've nothing against meat substitutes, I just enjoyed not 'needing' them in a breakfast thing.) You do need to like garlic, & plenty of it. But now you're warned, they could probably adapt, as all seemed freshly made. Nice coffee too, & they had oat milk available, which they offered as frothy, flat, or just in a jug on the side. Very pleasant friendly staff. All in all, I'd highly recommend a visit!

It's gone cashless which I didn't know until I went to the counter and ordered the day I went in was a little busy but was told straight away there was 45 minute wait on food so never bothered to order food in the end

Went for lunch with family. Busy but found table great varied menu. Ordered at counter friendly pleasant staff! Food arrived earlier than expected all piping hot and freshly cooked. King prawn dish was amazing full of flavour and lovely fresh salad and the chicken schnitzel was massive full of flavour and good quality. Found the the food portions reasonable to cost and quality. There are some bad reports on Trustpilot for the cafe but they seem to focus on breakfasts which we didn’t have. We had a great lunch and based on our experience couldn’t recommend enough!

My friend and I had a lovely breakfast here at Café Madeleine. It is individual and has a homely atmosphere. The menu is extensive and has vegetarian and vegan options. The coffee was lovely and hot and came in a cup and saucer 👍 My friend's vegan breakfast was great value at £10 and had several items. My only not so positive comment would be that I felt £1.60 for a quarter of a tomato (as an extra) was a bit steep. The staff are friendly and efficient and I think this is a real gem. The cakes looked great too but we were, sadly, too full after breakfast! I will definitely visit again 😊

Whilst on a rare visit to the town centre not wishing to use one of the large chain cafes, we went into this cafe for lunch. Not having been into this cafe before we were very pleasantly surprised. A good range of food and drinks were on offer all at reasonable prices. The service was very good with pleasant and friendly staff.

Served a burger that was cold (not luke warm but fridge cold) and raw. Waitress took it away and I asked could she confirm if this was pre-cooked and just cold or if it was raw and cold as I has eaten some. After 10 minutes no-one had come over. My husband went to the counter and the woman went in the kitchen for ages, when she returned she said the chef had said it was cold from waiting to be served - it wasnt, we were served it before we even got our drinks and chips were hot. Asked for a refund and after basically having to have an argument about it, we were told they couldnt authorise a refund as they aren't management. Asked to speak to management and told no but we could take items to that value? Said we wanted a refund, not for drinks or cake we had been served (we wouldn’t be drinking or eating them now but was principle) and got offered £5 as told we could only have it for the burger not the whole meal?! This use to be a lovely cafe - its as if its changed hands. Waitress was lovely, she tried her best, those above her lacked any responsibility or customer service and a raw burger speaks for itself. Worst cafe - avoid avoid avoid

I had some crumpets..4 quid! They came,it was only 1 and it was burnt! Didn't even get the topping for it. Had to ask. Pierogi the only good thing here.

Toasted cheese sandwich (3 slices of cheap white bread - unbuttered, with 1 pre sliced square of cheese per slice of bread) and large latte, was disappointing for the price. I explained to staff who kindly updated my order with a bit more cheese - I appreciated this gesture. Cafe was freezing cold too which makes your hot drink get cold very quickly. Unsure if the heating was on or if being nearer the window was the issue. Disappointing all round as my previous visit was ok and their cakes and pastries are good.

My friends and I have been here a couple of times and it's a really nice place to settle down for food and drinks. Yesterday one of my friends had the vegetarian breakfast. All was good apart from the hash browns. They were quite eggy and a bit sloppy. Staff is always friendly though and drinks are nice as well. I think we will still come back, but wanted to leave this as a suggestion for improvement.

Great eggs benedict Service is poor: slow and surly staff. Long queue at till, painful ordering process They had no slimmed or semi skimmed milk when we visited for teas / coffees (10am on a saturday). This was resolved by 2nd order of drinks We wouldn't go back I'm afraid, looks good, but the service and organisation let's this place down

I wouldn’t recommend. The cooked breakfast came with these dried up overcooked chipolatas, luke-warm beans, fried eggs that were both over and undercooked (I.e burnt bottoms, but snotty yolks), bacon had a weird taste, it came with diced onions like you’d get from a greasy burger van, and this weird cheese flavoured bubble and squeak looking mush. The coffee was literally 3 mouthfuls worth and they didn’t have any fresh orange or apple juice. I’ve left half of my plate and I’m not usually a fussy eater! I checked the food hygiene rating online which they don’t displayed. It’s a 3 out of 5 star rating which means it’s ‘generally satisfactory’. As mentioned, I wouldn’t recommend and I’m sure there’s plenty of other delicious places nearby!

Organised chaos. Took way to long to place an order. The guy in front of me walked out. The young lady on the roll kept saying that she hasn’t been trained. Had Max and Cheese, but it wasn’t macaroni it was Conchiglie, yes it’s pasta but it’s not macaroni

Popped in after meeting a friend in town. What a disappointment. Rude staff who were to busy talking to each other rather than customers and food that was bearly edible. Luke warm breakfast and eggs that were still snotty. Tables not cleared quick enough either. Wouldn't use again. Better off going to mcdonalds. There are much better places to eat in town

Veggie breakfast looked lovely, but beans were tasteless, the hash browns were soggy, the avocado was rock hard and mushrooms barely cooked! We asked for salt, pepper and brown sauce, got the kitchen manager coming over and asking if we had a problem?? When explained, got 2 pepper pots, one of which was empty and no salt!? Overall disappointed 😞

Beautiful food, good quality and delicious. The staff are lovely always. I've eaten here almost every week in the past couple of months and many times before that. The food is consistently superb. The staff are so welcoming and attentive. The seating is comfortable, the toilets are always clean. You pay for what you get. The quality of food and service is above par. I really look forward to going to Café Madeleine.

Been here twice now. First time I had an eclair, which looked spectacular on the counter but it tastes Luke warm, not very nice. (Style over substance) Today I ordered a toasted sausage and onion sandwich. They wouldn’t take card, cash only, which I find suspect. Three halves of a sandwich came out, not toasted but so stale it would have been better if they had. No butter on the bread and half I tiny sausages for each half sandwich. £5.80 Wish I’d taken a photo, flipping awful. I won’t be going back

Lovely place, well laid. Great staff. I would add that it needs a couple of more 4 seater tables, as we had to 'pinch' a chair for our 4th person. Apart from that, I will definitely use it again

Breakfast here is amazing. Been so many times and the Madeline hash browns are to die for! Only visited here for breakfast but there offer good food items for lunch too. Would recommend and always visit again. A small independent cafe with amazing food!

Easily the best cafe in ashford, the hash browns (which they will not give me the recipe for!) Are so good. Foods always cooked perfect and pumpkin spiced lattes all year around

This Cafe is excellent. My second visit for lunch which this time was Bagel with bacon and mashed Avocado along with salad trimmings. Superb just sums it up and it was all very filling. I really like this Cafe, very clean with plenty of tables available. fast service too.This has to be the best Cafe in Ashford by far. Lovely staff and very clean throughout. I will be going again and again.

The food and the place is fairly good but it’s super annoying queueing to order as they move so slowly and almost treat you with disdain wanting to order, getting told to wait etc and that’s IF they make eye contact whilst you’re waiting… if you come in alone and can’t hold a table, you often look back to the table you were thinking to sit at and it’s gone and then the next and then the next and I am not that fussy where I sit. They then stare at you when you can’t say what number table you’re ‘at’ as you don’t know the number of every table in the place… also food is slightly overpriced for what it is. It’s not a bad place but they are slow and not especially friendly when you order…

I kept meaning to go here for a coffee and so I did one lunchtime. I ordered a cappuccino with a toasted ham and cheese sandwich. Superb coffee and the sandwich was equally superb with garnish on the side. This was the best lunch I’ve had in a long time. Lovely and delicious together. Best cappuccino ever and the setting is excellent with huge windows allowing you to watch the world go by. Well at least people in Ashford that is. I will be going here much more often now.

Took my wife and Daughter here for lunch and could not believe the price for average food the staff were very cold and not very welcoming would not recommend this place to anyone

Very disappointing, hash browns were actually cheese omelettes, selling 89p apple juice for £2.40. Food was undercooked and the coffee was vile, couldn’t finish it. Will not be back.

Popped in earlier. The two ladies serving were talking in their foreign tongue. Totally ignored us. Husband asked if they had any croissants. They just carried on talking so we walked out. They never stopped talking. Wouldn't even give one star.

I love this local cafe. They do superb breakfasts. I had the egg and avocado bagel which has a little bit of garlic in it making the dish different to other normal breakfast cafe food. My husband had the smoked salmon and poached egg bagel...

However, the cafe itself is surrounded by b&m, phone repair shops and barbers so looks a little out of place, but once you go in it’s quiet, warm and the staff are friendly

My daughter and I popped in for lunch on a Saturday. We were able to get a table straight away and queues for placing an order weren’t bad. I went for a Full English and my daughter a Spaghetti Bolognese. The fry up was outstanding....
