Wilford Bridge in Suffolk Coastal

We stayed at Sutton Hoo for a few days and had dinner at The Wilford Bridge on the evening of our arrival. It is the closest pub/restaurant to Sutton Hoo. This was the first time we had eaten out for 18 months so perhaps we were extra nervous but we were not entirely comfortable. The staff member who greeted us did not wear a mask, so we were off to a bad start. Fish and chips is OK but note that it is described as "fish", not any particular species of fish. However, if you haven't eaten for a week, have the ham salad, which is a very generous portion.

Very tasty food (great if you like big portions). The veggie meal was excellent and good choices. Friendly staff and good service.

We all had the prawn sandwich with crisps and salad. Service was quick and very courteous. The food was bellisimo as always. I also recommend the breakfast as well. Fantastic food run by a fantastic team. Will definitely be back.

Just wanted a light lunch. Two of my party had the soup which was very tasty. Two had sandwiches which were generous in size and well presented. Good service

Was passing through and noticed on Saturday and Sunday they open for Breakfast from 09:00. In we popped and had a full English, wow would be an appropriate summary. We were made very welcome by the chap behind the bar, ordered two full breakfasts and ice water. The presentation, quality of produce used and cooking was spot on.I highly recommend if you are in the area. We were told they do an outstanding fish and chips and Fridays its 241 after 15:00. We are in the area again at the end of August so we will be popping in :-)

Food was good and reasonably priced. Place was clean. Beer in good condition. We had fish and chips and friend had the chicken with curry. The curry looked wonderful and I am definitely going to have it next time.

Not the kind of atmosphere one wants to come into after so many months of lockdown. Young Emily who served us was pleasant and cheerful but the older lady who was the first we met upon entry was not welcoming at all and seemed stressed. Food mediocre.

Beautifully cooked and flavoursome food. The mushroom risotto and steak and ale suet pudding were perfect. The orange and cherry Bakewell tart equally delightful. All looked and tasted as if it had been made from scratch. The veg was spot on. Very friendly staff. Look forward to seeing the lower half of their faces next time!

We booked a table for 2 pm today and could not fault the meal or service. The waitress waiting on our table, (Table 6), was excellent, and the food was exceptional. We ordered classic Prawn Cocktail and Sautéed Prawns followed by Roast Lamb and Katsui Chicken - wonderful meal, perfectly cooked and presented. We have eaten out a few times lately, not always a pleasant experience, but we will certainly be back to visit the Wilford Bridge.

We were recommended to go here mainly because mum said the steak and kidney pudding was to die for. As she hadn't been for two years due to lockdown we took her and her sister last week. We even pre ordered our steak and kidney puddings as she was worried they may run out. They were very accommodating and agreed to hold back enough for us. The pub is lovely and full of character and we were made verywelcome and shown to our table.We all had starters which were lovely then out came the steak and kidney pudding which looked great. These were not individual ones but generous slices of a much bigger pudding. It melted in your mouth and was delicious. Other meals that came out looked equally nice but we were all filled up with starters and steak and kidney and couldn't attempt the dessert menu. Perhaps next time we will.gobstraight in to main and leave room.Service was excellent and staff very friendly and accommodating. Lots to see and do in the area so make a day of it like we did.

Delicious Sunday roast with friendly and attentive staff even when they were clearly very busy. Would highly recommend.

Amazing 2-1 Roast We had the beef very succulent. Veg wasn't over cooked and just the right amount of gravy. I had the kids roast as I have a small appetite was just enough. Massive value 2-1 after 4pm on a Sunday..

We've visited the Wilford bridge many times over the last twenty years, it's not a gastropub but the food is generally good/average pub food. Unfortunately last night. I ordered "Hand cut Suffolk ham with egg and chips" what came was a couple of wafer thin slices of ham....definitely not HAND CARVED just straight out of a packet? When I told the waiter he said "I'll tell the chef" I think he might know where it came from. Disappointing

Starters where rather bland.. looking and tasting compared to other restaurants in the same chain.main of shepherd's pie was really delicious but the side of veg looked dull.The burger and chips that was served was like a child's meal on a very large plate. Size was more suited for my 3 year old.land very boring for around £13 /£14. Onion rings just dripped in so much oil with hardly any onion inside just batter.just abit disappointing unfortunatley. But just want to add the staff where really lovely happy and welcoming. They did take the price of the burger meal from our final bill.

We went for a Sunday Roast last week and had roast lamb which was the best I have had for a very long time. Will defiantly be going back again, please keep the lamb on the menu, fantastic.

Despite Covid limitations we enjoyed a very good family meal yesterday evening. Good menu choices (we had 4 vegetarians in our group of 6).Well organised system in place, good service and, most importantly, very tasty and wholesome food with good drinks options.We would visit again, hopefully in less constrained circumstances, when next in the area but would recommend stronglyThank you

Amazing birthday meal tonight for my daughter's 8th. The food is outstanding and we rarely go out because my husband says he prefers my home cooking but this was on another level. The staff were friendly, helpful, attentive and great at following Covid safe rules.My daughter was upset we couldn't have a party with friends but at the end of today she said this had been the best birthday ever! I've told my husband this is now my treat pub and I expect to be back for another meal soon.

We all enjoyed our lunch here. Friendly staff and new rules no problem and very relaxed. A must if in Woodbridge. Best Skate ever.

Had a wonderful lunch of fried skate with new potatoes & green salad. Delicious!The pub itself was slightly dismal after eating at other Deben Inns but it was safe from the Covid threat & welcoming! Our waiter was delightful Would recommend it for a hearty lunch

A real find. We had a lovely meal here. The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff were friendly and efficient. The food was delicious. We had the goats cheese and beetroot salad, garlic king prawns and my daughter had the chicken curry. Deserts included the Eton mess and the banoffee pie. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back again soon.

Lovely, friendly staff, and delicious food! NHS discount was also a little bonus. Would definitely recommend visiting if you’re in the area.

Just had a fantastic meal here tonight with my daughters and niece I had the ribeye,well was so tender you could of cut with a butter knife also cooked to perfection others had the special chicken, the main prawn cocktail and pizza all was so nice would recommend this place everytime staff friendly and polite

Reviews were all good so went for Sunday lunch.My husband had roast beef and I had the roast pork. Being in the trade for many years I know when the roast meats are cooked on the day. Beef and pork were heated up. The vegetables were very hard, I like firm vegetables but you couldn’t cut the cauliflower. The Yorkshire’s were full of oil and I found this to be most off putting.The pudding was much more appealing sticky toffee pudding. If I had to criticise there was a little bit too much sauce.The tables were very sticky, wasn’t sure if this was the sanitiser they were using.

Great local pub serving good quality food. The service was excellent by very friendly staff even on a packed even.

We visited The Wilford Bridge yesterday, 2nd September for lunch. We wanted to sit outside with our two dogs although there was a huge sign clearly indicating that dogs were welcome inside in the bar area. When I went inside to order there was a warm welcome and the service was very efficient. The food was delicious and it was busy but still we did not have to wait long for our food and the lady who bought our meal was happy to bring us anything we needed. Highly recommend this pub particularly if you have four legged friends.

We visited for lunch on bank holiday Monday on the last day of Eat Out To Help Out. A polite welcome and shown to our table, with orders taken promptly and accurately.My cauliflower curry was spicy and very tasty, one of the best vegan curries I have had. My wife was served a huge skate which she enjoyed although couldn’t finish it! The fish and chips ordered by other members of our party was similarly large and enjoyable.Looking forward to returning, I have an eye on a future Friday, 2 for 1 fish and chips is an exceptional offer.

We walked out immediately because the grumpy woman that 'greeted'us at the door launched straight into their covid rules without even saying hello or welcome....unfortunatly covid has turned too.many hosts into enforcers. I'd rather spend our money elsewhere and we did.

Impressed by the quality of the food and also by the great choice. Fresh, tasty and homemade - we enjoyed a number of dishes from the goats cheese and beetroot salad, chicken and cauliflower curries and the steak and ale pudding finished off by sticky toffee pudding. Lovely pub atmosphere with friendly staff...food so much better than typical pub grub!! we were made to feel very welcome and well looked after- as was our dog!! Lots of Covid-19 safety measures in place - made dining out a pleasure in difficult/ different circumstances. Would highly recommend...well done.

Visited this evening as a family. The food was fantastic. Our daughters said it was the best burger and best brownie they have ever had.... and they’ve had a few! Staff were very polite and attentive and great with our children - very friendly. Good hygiene measures in place. Tables and chairs were being fully sanitised.Hand sanitising stations available.App to do track and trace and for contactless menus. Tip box. Food wait times great. We sat in the pub side. Typical pub decor. Chairs not overly comfortable for short people like me. Toilets very modern and clean.Would definitely recommend. Five star.

Family of five including two children. Excellent welcome, great choices on the menu. Terrific service . The food five different main courses all hot, tasty and well presented. It’s been a while since I had been what with lockdown etc. Quite simply very good

We booked for first time - as holiday visiting regulars of the (Same Group) Maybush which was full. Good Evening family meal with busy staff doing their best with CV19 procedures. A hot evening - could have done with a few more open windows! May not have the same location appeal as the Maybush - but We were less rushed and a good family meal out.

We took advantage of "eat out to help out" campaign this week. The food was OK, not amazing but OK. I was disappointed to see that really not much was done with regards to Covid 19 guidelines. I didn't see one table cleaned and sanitised while we were there, even though some tables were occupied twice while we were there. People were able to walk by very closely to our table. There was no track and trace contact details taken, which I thought was a legal requirement of being open. So that was the main gripe. Minor gripes were that the drinks were exceptionally expensive and you had to go inside to order as well as pay for each trip to the bar for food and drinks at the time, so three separate transactions inside a pub that had quite a large queue with little chance of social distancing. I really can’t recommend it. For a really polar opposite, and far safer visit, go to The Ramsholt (where we went after for a drink). Far, far safer, table service and enough trust to allow drinks to be put on a table tab and paid at the end.

Best fish and chips..The fish was cooked to perfection with the lightest batter ever. The chips were crispy and had a proper taste. The beer was fresh from the barrel.I passed this pub a few times but will not do so in the future.

Took mum to the Wilford for lunch we both had the fillet steak it melted in your mouth was so tender. Service was excellent very friendly would always recommend the Wilford bridge thank you once again .

Lovely Sunday roast yesterday. Friendly service, excellent food, relaxed atmosphere. Staff wearing face masks and carrying out good cleaning of each table, tables well distanced so we felt very reassured.

This was our first restaurant visit since March. We chose 3 restaurants that we wanted to visit first as soon as they were open. Good social distancing measures in place. Disposable menus and all staff wearing visors. Food here is always good quality and reasonably priced. The suet pudding was lovely and been missed. Vey enjoyable and relaxing meal.

Had an excellent meal here last Thursday. We had the pork loin and the steak & ale pudding both were delicious. Lovely friendly waitress. It was obvious the measures they had taken for Covid but they didn't make a big deal of it, they just quietly carried on. Thank you for giving us the experience of a near normal night out! Have just been out for our first meal since lockdown. We have been using Wilford bridge for many years and have always had lovely meals.I would like to say it was a very pleasurable experience tonight, the staff have got the social distancing and infection control measures to a very high standard. As soon as a customer left the young man got the sanitiser and cleaned the table and edges of table , salt, pepper mills and the chairs. There were not any parts missed. He was also a very pleasant man when serving us.The man behind the bar was also very vigilant in cleaning the trays and ensuring that everybody had a good service.Well done Wilford bridge.We were so impressed we have booked for Sunday roast.

As ever a lovely family meal. The skate was lovely the staff serving were friendly and helpful even if there was one misery Working behind the bar having said that we all have bad days. Great place to go with really good food

Nice trip to Woodbridge for dinner.Great menu, plenty of veggie options, and the pasta special was pappardelle-icious.Elsewhere the food was good; the burger was a great size and pretty tasty, but a touch overdone. Staff were lovely.The drinks in particular were pricey, and we weren’t overly impressed with the ambience, thought the interior was a bit outdated. Could be nicer eating outside.Still an enjoyable evening and worthwhile trip!

Ordered scamp and chips and steak and ale pie (takeaway) only had to wait 10 mins. Drove to a picnic site across the road to eat it. It’s the best takeaway I think we’ve ever had! Food was piping hot, perfectly cooked and loads of it-I even had a wedge of lemon with my scampi and all the condiments you could ever want!! Very very impressed and will be back soon-thank you very much!

Even during this testing times I was able to visit my favourite restaurant for a lovely roast dinner easy to order and pick up as good as I remember it thank you Wilford bridge great food as always

Spare of the moment we decided to call in for the 2 courses for £12 deal, the choice on the selected menu was very good, we both had a starter and main and both courses were of a good size. We will definitely do this again

Took 2 elderly relatives for Saturday lunch this past weekend. Food was excellent, very tasty and the service attentive without being overly so. Really enjoyable all round lunchtime and for certain we will go back again.

Two beef and two lamb roast dinners, absolutely nothing left on any plate. Our meat was well prepared and generously portioned. Vegetable selection was excellent and cooked perfectly. Excellent service too.

Once again had a fabulous dinner with friends food excellent staff very friendly and helpful if you have never been here well worth a visit

Had a lovely lunch today vegetarian options for us both, food was lovely and hot and lots of it, even the little side salad had some delicious dressing on it.We sat for 30mins after our meal and chatted didn’t feel rushed at all. Staff were lovely. Ladies loos were spotlessly clean. Will definitely go back and recommend to all my friends.

Had a lovely welcome from a friendly member of staff. I chose the Suffolk ham, egg and chips off the menu - the ham was the tastiest I’ve had in a long time and the eggs and chips were perfect. Hubby had the chicken with chorizo and mozzarella which he said was juicy and tasty and the dauphinois and seasonal veg were cooked perfectly. The two members of staff were friendly and at the same time, professional and helpful when discussing the menu. Going back tomorrow to try something else on the menu.

Popped in on the way to Sutton Hoo for brecky. Dog friendly good food great coffee and a good spot to chill after a walk.

We have lived in the area for over 2years and have only just tried the Wilford Bridge. We found ourselves without our children for a few days over half term and went for dinner. Scallops to start and then cod and chips. My husband had the special rump steak. All of it was excellent. The service was brilliant and it was very busy, nothing was too much trouble. We returned a couple of days later for lunch and chose off of the 2 for £12 menu. Again it was faultless, brilliant service, the lady dealing with us was so friendly and super efficient. Thoroughly recommend this place

The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The food was great and the roast dinner was very tasty! They even allowed us to purchase some takeaways for other family members who enjoyed their meals too!

Cant recommend this restaurant highly enough for their consistently high stantard of food and service. They always have an excellent menu choice. Try their steak suet pudding...superb!

Two nan’s and two grandsons out for tea. Both nan’s down from Cheshire to visit our grandson’s for a weekend break. The Wilford Bridge is a lovely pub restaurant with great food. Good size portions and delicious desserts. Staff very friendly. Only criticism, could do with a popadom to go with the chutney dip with the cauliflower curry.

We had spent our morning at sutton hood and dropped on on the way back hoping to warm up with some food! We were really impressed. The service was fantastic- the waiter was really friendly and great with children. Drinks orders were taken promptly and delivered with not too long a wait. The children's menu is good- it's more than just chips which you get at other places, it was things like sausage and mash, pasta though fish and chips were there too! There is an extensive specials board which makes use of local produce and together with the large menu makes choosing hard! We had the fish pie special and halloumi burger. Staff were great at answering questions. We waited around 20 mi utes for food which we thought was reasonable, and the food was delicious and portion sizes huge! A really enjoyable lunch, and we have booked to go back for dinner next weekend :)

Wife had soup of the day which was stunning. My mother and I had the king prawn starter which was also gastronomic. As mains had the roast lamb and pork which were good. Loved the brownie and icecream and the cheese cake. Definitely recommend this pub

Went there Saturday evening for meal with friends, arrived about 15min before booked time to have a drink in the bar as soon as we told bar staff we had a table booked we were ushered to our table with menus, drinks were brought to the table. Three times were asked if we were ready to order, all before the booked time, all very rushed.

Visited mid-week for a festive celebration and enjoyed the whole experience. Choice of starters, mains and puds from the Xmas menu as well as the standard menu choices and specials board there should be something to suit most tastes. Full bar to provide your refreshments and friendly, efficient service in a comfortable, bright environment.

Went on a Friday evening and there was a great atmosphere; warm and cosy. Staff were brilliant. They were friendly, personable and helped sort out different options our party wanted. Did make a little mistake on veg option, but apologised quickly and rectified easily and with a smile and a joke. Food was very nice. Too- download their xx app and there are many offers including money off. Would recommend.

First visit there with family who live in the area. Three had Steak and Ale Suet Pudding. Suet Pudding needed a little more cooking and the vegetables were Raw rock hard. Why not ask customers how they would like their vegetables cooked? Quite expensive really for Pub food. One had Fish and Chips lovely white fish and they said it was lovely. Upon looking would say the Chips were frozen ones which is a shame. Two had Desert a Rhubarb crumble and another Ice cream. The Rhubarb desert was a generous portion but then again it was not cheap. Would go there again and try the Skate next time but if had a dinner would ask for well cooked vegetables. Nice and clean there and ample parking.

One of my favourite pubs to eat at! Friendly staff and excellent service! Highly recommend the Turkey Special! Had prompt service and everyone really friendly! Excellent food and good prices!

The Wilford bridge was a lovely pub and friendly atmosphere, as a regular Westerfield swan goer for just drinks and food, we knew what to expect. But unfortunately was left underwhelmed by the difference in the ultimate roast dinner.

Had lunch here today food was excellent as was the service. Very friendly staff and a good welcome from Mandy who was looking after the bar. Well worth a visit

We chose the specials alongside the ordinary menu. Both delicious, especially the steak and ale pudding. Always friendly and helpful staff where nothing is too much trouble.

Eating out is a costly experience so finding a place that one can truly enjoy and where the food is truly spectacular is rare, I therefore take my hat off to the Wilford bridge your staff were friendly and attentive and the food top notch, the chef certainly know how to cook a steak to perfection and those onion rings are just out of this world. This was our first experience to your establishment and it won’t be our last.

We only get over this way a few times a year so really pleased to see the game pie on the menu it did not disappoint!

Visited the Wilford Bridge for the first time with friends.Didn't know what to expect as had only looked on TripAdvisor. Pub clean and had a friendly welcome. We were the first customers at lunch time. The special and ordinary menus were good, varied and reasonably priced. The food, was hot and well cooked. Our friends had the skate and calf's liver whilst we had fish and chips. The fish was fresh and good flavours. The only thing I would say it is not the sort of place to go to have a drink it was obvious during our visit it is primarily a food pub. The beer was a bit pricey at £4.40 for a pint of Doombar and 250 ml glass of wine was £6.96. Perhaps it is normal for the area. On the whole the food was good, the staff professional and friendly and we would go again when in the area.

Went to the Wilford bridge on a cold and wet day

We were on our way home after a Remberence Sunday event & fancied a Sunday Roast somewhere. We drove past this place and agreed to "try it" on the off chance. Excellent reception, excellent menu, excellent service and food. And they serve Adanmms!

Just got back from a lovely evening at the Wilford Bridge.

Me and my wife came here as we were staying at Ufford Park for the night and we really enjoyed ourselves. I had the burger and my wife had the steak suet pudding and both were delicious! Our waiter Gary was very knowledgeable and polite. Highly reccomend!

Returned to the Wilford Bridge for a birthday dinner. Great food and drink and wonderful staff. It's always a pleasure to go back here.

Warm welcome on a grey day, and we were found a table quickly. Low ceilings slightly dark inside but made up for by good food at a reasonable price. My daughter had an entirely vegan lunch - cauliflower curry followed by a chocolate parfait. Both dishes very good, vegan food is so good now. I had cod goujons and chips followed by the best pudding I've had for a long time: a blondie brownie which was like a hot, sticky, sweet treacly, brownie crumble. As good as it gets.My food was from the 2 courses for 12.00 menu.

A friend recommended the Wilford Bridge to us for a good Sunday Roast. We popped over after 4pm last sunday and found the place to be busy but able to accommodate us.

Staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. This was a family outing (youngest age 12) and the menu catered for all tastes. Outstanding lamb shank rich in flavour, “best chips ever”, fabulous mushroom pasta, yummy cheese croquettes. Service was an object lesson for other establishments - they gave us time to enjoy, but quietly efficient at clearing the table.

Confit of duck on a mashed potatoes and red cabbage was superb. My halloumi burger was less so, but the chips were divine. Good local ales.

Our fist time to Wilford Bridge, but certainly not the last. Excellent value, well presented. very good attentive staff, and cooked to perfection. Well done all at Wilford Bridge

We were welcomed and accommodate even though we arrived an hour before our booked reservation. The food choice and quality along with the service were excellent. Why go anywhere else.@

Booked on the day for Sunday 2 4 1 Sunday lunch. Arrived at 4pm and was shown to a table for two by a friendly waitress. Was offered drinks ordered from table and given menu. We had two roasts which were cooked to perfection and brought to us 10 minutes after us ordering them. Brilliant customer service by waitress who served us. Would go again, excellent!
