We were having lunch as part of the OctoberBest festival. Been to this restaurant many times before and looking forwards to our lunch. Pre- starter of squash, miso and Szechuan soup/purée could have done with a lot more seasoning. Cured trout starter with taramasalata was divine. We both had the plaice main course and it again, needed more seasoning so we asked for some salt. Salsify in the dish was very well seasoned but the fish wasn't. We ordered two spiced pear desserts and we received half a pear each , which we questioned and then were served the "other half " We will still go back because we want to support local, independent restaurants but today's offer was slightly under par, sorry guys

Délicieux! I went to Wild Flor to try the four course tasting menu as part of the October Best promotion. I hadn't heard of Wild Flor and had no expectations before I went but the whole experience was great. The staff were welcoming and attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant was clean with a relaxed atmosphere. The food was delicious. I had four different dishes and each one was well arranged and presented and had great flavours that left me wanting more. I particularly enjoyed the black pudding with brown butter and apple. I want to return and try some of the other dishes.

We booked Wild Flor as part of Octoberbest - had high hopes, as the menu looked lovely, however, the reality was, in the main, both underwhelming and disappointing. We were expecting a mini showcase of what the restaurant offers, however, that’s not what we got. The restaurant itself is lovely, and has a nice buzz about it. I love the decor. The opener of squash/miso and Szechuan pepper was really tasty. For the second course I’d chosen the black pudding/brown butter jus and roast apple - the pudding was made at the restaurant in the Spanish style, using rice so soft and crumbly - absolutely fantastic and would eat this all day long. My husband had the cured trout/taramasalata/seaweed and pink fir - there were also a few crisps across the dish - disappointingly lacking in flavour (trout and taramasalata), and he wasn’t sure if the seaweed and pink fir had even been used in the dish. For mains, he chose the plaice/salsify and shellfish sauce - looked lovely when served, however, again felt it lacked flavour, and was over-salted. Couldn’t taste the shellfish in the sauce, and the salsify was also short on flavour. I had the celeriac and pear tart, with beetroot pickle and crispy kale - I’m not sure where to begin as it was baffling this had even been allowed to leave the kitchen. It looked like something someone would bring home from a home economics class - far too much pastry, which was dry and heavy, the pear and celeriac came with no discernible flavour, and the beetroot wasn’t much better - the whole thing was dry, so very very dry, as there was no sauce - good job we’d ordered the Jerusalem artichoke hash as a side - which was tastier than either of the main dishes. For dessert we had the chocolate and stem ginger choux bun, and the spiced pear, hazelnut and stout custard - beige offerings, and meh on the flavour scale. Service started out well, however, there was definitely an air of us being ‘meal deal’ customers, not paying full price - with seemingly no interest in the feedback about the mains, beyond offering us a drink to compensate. I have to assume the standard of food isn’t usually like this, otherwise Wild Flor wouldn’t get the reviews they do - in our view, this should have been the perfect vehicle to tempt us back, however, ended up as a massive opportunity missed - a real shame!

Had an exceptional meal here last night. It was our second visit and it’s now firmly our favourite restaurant in Brighton and Hove. The service is excellent, friendly but not fussy, beautifully paced and not rushed, knowledgeable staff, who seem happy to work there. Food was exceptional as well, woke up this morning still thinking about the mushrooms with cheese custard, and the venison with green peppercorns - both absolutely stunning. All in all, it’s just a real pleasure to eat hear. Looking forward to going back already.

Had a quiet set lunch here (arrived at opening, it did fill up). Nice room and wonderful service. The cooking is excellent and the portions are well considered, meaning one gets to enjoy pudding. Will return to try out the a la carte but would definitely recommend the set menus at a very affordable price when you consider the quality and presentation of the ingrediants.

My wife and I ate here for our anniversary and really enjoyed the three-course vegetarian set menu. Interesting dishes with a focus on local produce, nicely presented but pretty small portions. The atmosphere was very casual considering that the menu was rather fancy, so it's a great choice for anyone who enjoys good food but not posh restaurant ambience. The a la carte menu is as expensive as you'd expect from a 'haute cuisine' place, but the three course dinner for £25 offers the same quality for a great price. We got a bottle of the cheapest wine at about £35 - pretty good but nothing to write home about. Best choice for an impressive date or special occasion on a budget.

Spotted this place when looking for last minute dinner. Saw a very good review so tried it out. Blow away in every aspect. Lovely place with nice seating and table setting Service was very attentive. Staff made an effort in conversation and gave their advice in choosing food and wine. Not just “yeah the fish is good” but a more detailed effort. Checking back in on our food later and showing they knew what we had “how are you finding that wine we discussed?” Sometimes this sort of service can seem overbearing but here they nailed it. Food was really special. We had guanicale and green beans as starters. Trout and bavette steak for mains. Really great and usually I avoid steak as mostly I can do it better myself. This time not so much! Prices are higher end but really nothing was overpriced. Lovely restaurant in a good location serving fabulous food and wine with reasonable prices. 2 people had 3 courses, wine and dessert wine for £180.

Strange one. Clearly very good food, but the set menu portions were astoundingly stingy on the expensive ingredients and padded out with extra vegetables, nor is there any sides so the menu is only a decent deal if you don't want anything with your fish (three tiny pieces) curry. The lemon posset was served in half a lemon. HALF A LEMON! That's about two spoonfuls. We spent over £100 for two people. I only had a beer (£6, half a pint). We didn't have it, but one of the mains (a veal chop, available at my butcher for a couple of quid) was listed at FORTY POUNDS. Service was brilliant, drinks were good. But the prices are high and it's just not as good as it thinks it is.

I heard this place was very good, and my expectations were high. I was not disappointed. In fact, I was very, very, very impressed! The place is beautiful, has a nice homey feeling, it is decorated with very good taste. The service is warm, friendly, competent, and genuinely caring. You can see that they love what they serve, and their smiles are not the prefabricated types of smiles that are fake and insincere. The food is excellent, and the wine list is great, plus it is priced very honestly for the quality of the wines they have. I am used to London prices and this sort of fine dining in London would probably be astronomically priced. I ordered the oysters to start with, then the Dexter tartare and the beans with peach, almond and lavender. Then I had the herb crusted hake with courgettes and raw prawns, a side of potatoes with seaweed and lemon, then the blackcurrant chicken ice and the peach dessert too. This was accompanied by a great Vinho Verde ( 2 glasses ) a perfect pairing suggested by the lovely staff. When the hake came I switched to another incredible wine, again, perfectly matched , a Chardonnay from Santa Barbara ( another 2 glasses) . The desserts were matched with a Riesling for the peach, and an Oloroso for the blackcurrant choc ice, both perfectly chosen by the fantastic staff on duty. This is definitely one of the best meals, if not The Best meal, I ever had in Brighton. Minor things I noticed that by no means detract from the skills of the chef were the lack of lavender taste in the salad of beans, peach, almond and lavender. I did not notice a hint of lavender, but the dish still tasted good and was fresh and delicious. The second thing I noticed was that in the blackcurrant choc ice there was a bit very subtle addition of honey, or honeycomb, possibly in the decoration on top of the chic ice. I am a big dessert person, and I do love cakes, ice creams, etc. But I am not a big fan of honey, and in this specific dessert, the blackcurrant choc ice, it was unnecessary. Still, if I had to rate this place from 1 to 100, I would give a solid 98. This is good that deserves a trip from London! I can’t wait to go back ! Thank you to all of you guys you were magnificent!

We'd been trying to get ourselves organised to eat at Wild Flor for a couple of years and finally managed it. Sadly, our meal was a curate's egg: "good in parts". We eat from the set 2-course menu which looked interesting and imaginative. The whelk & wild garlic ragu starter is a problem, given that a ragu's ingredients should be cooked long & slowly in braising liquid & to do that with whelks means they end up with the consistency of rubber, which they did. It could also do with some beautifying, as it looked unappetising on the plate (see pic). Oeuf en gelée is a great idea, unusual (if we forget the 70s craze for aspic) and looked good, but unfortunately was too chilled for any of the flavours to come through. Main course was the Grilled duck hearts, prune, smoked mash & onions which is where I & my companions differed: one of us thought the dish badly cooked (and we all had duck hearts that were hard & over-cooked) and a waste of time. Unfortunate that the two courses (£24 pp) were both let down by the poor cooking of their main ingredient. Others, apart from agreeing about the duck hearts, thought the mash, gravy & onions beautifully cooked & tasting delicious, with a particular mention to the melt-in-the-mouth prunes that absolutely brought the dish up to another level. One of us had a side of Garden salad & elderflower vinaigrette, which was the freshest salad with the most delicious dressing he'd tasted in a long time. Very good coffee with pleasant & smiley staff. T

I have been following this restaurant on Instagram. Intrigued by the ever changing menu and focus upon seasonal ingredients, I was keen to visit. Last night, we experienced Wild Flor for the first time. The dining room is very comfortable and stylish. There is good space between most tables. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our table and were given time to peruse menus and wine list. We ordered aperitifs. The Westwell pelegrim Kent sparkling was excellent and I enjoyed a glass of Manzanilla…I love that dry sherry! We also ordered the pea dip snack which was a lovely little appetiser. Starters were excellent. I nervously chose the sweetbread…I know what it is, but had heard they weee delicious. Adventure called and I ordered this dish. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The accompanying sauce was Springtime on a plate. Leek and broad bean loveliness with potatoes. Such a fresh, delicious appetiser. Jane had the trout starter which looked like a garden! Bright green sauce with fresh asparagus. The light pink hue of the fish against that grassy green was a sight to behold…the little pink pearls of roe sat as jewels upon the trout. Delicious. Jane chose a Chablis for her dish. I chose the Pouilly Fumé for mine. Great start! Main courses…mutton for Jane and bream for myself. Both dishes were superb. The mutton was rolled with various herbs and was generously covered with woody shiitake mushrooms. We unashamedly celebrated the humble pea too! They were so fresh, so flavourful, and it was lovely to “hear” that simple ingredient sing amongst the other singers! The garlic purée was just present enough. Beautifully balanced dish. The fish was delicate and delicious with accompanying crab and light vegetable sauce. Crispy artichoke and gentil tomato didn’t overpower the delicate flavour of the perfectly cooked bream. We ordered a lovely fresh side salad and some beautifully citrus- dressed potatoes. We chose another glass of the excellent Pouilly Fumé and a lovely Spanish Moscato Desserts? We didn’t need any more food, but we didn’t want to miss out either! Jane ordered a stunning espresso martini and I went for the two slices of cheese with the most delectable crackers…the best accompanying biscuit I have ever enjoyed! Lovely rich chutney too. I then ended this beautiful meal with a double espresso to keep me going whilst taking the train back to Worthing. We found the whole experience rather thrilling and ever so satisfying. We were looked after so well and the food delivered on all levels. Thank you, team Wild Flor.

Nice relaxed restaurant but still just a regular neighbourhood shop front restaurant nothing notable about the interior decor etc. However the food was mixed affair: eg: The ham and sweet mustard starter seemed nothing more than a few pieces of sliced cold meat from a deli pack from Tesco drizzled with mustard. Where as the steak bavette was really nicely executed albeit a small portion.

First class neighbourhood dining. Last night my partner (vegetarian) and I enjoyed our first meal at Wild Flor. The food was great, the wine list is a treasure trove, we had a true gem that complemented our meal perfectly. Simply the best cheese board I've had in years, paired brilliantly with an exceptional port that rounded off the meal beautifully. But what truly sets Wild Flor apart is the unparalleled service and the cozy, welcoming ambience. The team struck the perfect balance of friendliness and attentiveness, making us feel at home from the moment we stepped in. The decor, with its subtle elegance and warmth, alongside the soft lighting, created an inviting oasis on a rainy, windswept Friday evening. Really underwhelming. My husband and I are both big foodies and I had read so many good things about this restaurant and was so excited to try the food but for what was a pretty expensive meal the food was very average. We went on a Saturday night (having booked a good month in advance) and considering the menu is very limited, two of the mains had already sold out which is pretty bad form considering it was a Saturday night and the restaurant knows how many people are coming because you have to book. So we were left with either pork shoulder, fish or the plant based option. We both got the pork shoulder and honestly what we got looked/tasted like a meal you would get at a decent pub - just pork with a bit of gravy and some mushy squash. The greens we ordered on the side were watery and flavourless. The squid starter was pretty flavourless too. Maybe we just went on a week where the menu wasn’t very good but unfortunately this meal was nothing to write home about and i felt that the restaurant had been massively overhyped.

James and the team worked very hard to give me a lovely birthday lunch in the private room upstairs. Everything was perfect, and all the guests commented not only on how great the food was but also how lovely the staff were. This place is a real gem.

Dinner out with friends, our first one at Wild flor. We chose it as it was so well reviewed and we had great expectations for our evening. Apart from Jersey Oysters (which our friends said were perfectly fresh and immaculately served) and wine selection, we were disappointed. It might have been our menu choices, but our chosen plates were fairly bland (both hoggets and the pork terrine en croute) and uninspiring. The Dundee cake was a true rendition of Dundee marmalade and thus a bit of an uplift at the end of our meal. For the price, we would have expected better fayre. I’m not sure we can afford to give it another go - there’s too much ground to be covered to get from what we experienced to amazing. For £100/ head we could eat significantly better elsewhere in Brighton.

Incredible place! The best service and food we've had in Hove. Interior all finished to a high standard making for a lovely setting. Personable staff and really attentive. My wife and I are both vegan and were very well catered for. Highly recommend.

Not quite up to par with what we expected. The service couldn’t be faulted - super friendly and attentive. However; value for money was low on the food. Oysters were delicious, but all of our mains (some of which were £30 plus) lacked in both portion size and flavouring. The risotto main came with far too much oil, so much that we asked for extra bread to mop it up with. Overall not an unpleasant evening but considering the price per head we left feeling totally underwhelmed. Had to get chips on the way home!

As a Scotsman from Burns' home county of Ayrshire, I really appreciated the Burns' theme night, including the poem extract on the menu. You even surprised me with 'red pudding' which I'd never encountered up north. We'll be back next week for the Digby evening - our third visit so far this year. I think it's safe to say we've found our new favourite restaurant in Brighton & Hove. Thank you.

The ambience of the restaurant and the staff were very good but, apart from that, the food was very disappointing and not very good value. The oysters were lovely but my mussels starter was like drinking sea water and inedible. They did replace it but there was little difference in the saltiness. My husband’s pate was nice but very cold so obviously straight out of the fridge. My risotto main was completely swimming in a vast amount of oil on the plate, it was pretty tasteless and uninteresting and the alioli had way too much garlic in and was inedible. My husband’s brill, at £37 including way too salty carrots, was a tiny slither of tasteless fish. His spotted dick pudding was undercooked and heavy. The staff dealt with our issues very professionally but I would not consider ever going back.

Some friends and I went to Wild Flor for our Christmas party lunch. What an amazing experience we all had! The private dining room was beautifully laid up. A personalised menu was a lovely touch. The staff were fun and friendly but also discreet. And so to the food… Wowzas a great choice for everyone on the set lunch menu. Totally delicious offerings which went marvellously with the cocktails and wines that we chose! We left vowing to return again! We traveled from Worthing to Hove… some by train and some by bus so that we could have the best experience and we sure did! Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful memory to take into the festivities.

Have been meaning to try for over a year. Most evenings I walk past and see the staff having the evening meeting ore service. I’m impressed. Place is warm and open. Staff are happy and un intrusive yet knowledgable. Wine list to re mortgage your house for but basic wines are well matched to the menu on offer. This is a beautiful place to eat. Next time may ask to visit the kitchen.

Seven of us for dinner on a Saturday evening: reception was friendly and efficient and we were shown to a table upstairs. The menu is fairly brief and suits a sophisticated palate: those with simpler tastes might find it a bit hard to choose. The food is beautifully cooked and nicely presented: the wine list is extensive and can be expensive (one of our party chose a Syrah which was enjoyable but cost almost £90). Starters and desserts are in the £10-12 range and mains around £25-30. It’s certainly a popular restaurant and virtually every seat was taken.

Lovely little restaurant in Hove. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Loved the cosy vibe, great for a casual date night. Went for Octoberbest which is fantastic value. Enjoyed the mussels, suet pudding and pavalova, fish cooked well, only dish we weren’t so keen on was the black pudding. Would definitely go again.

We visited Wild Flor this week as we were let down on a booking error for Bincho yakitori, I must say we had an amazing meal in a relaxed and cozy atmosphere! We have not visited for a while, but we were so glad we chose Wild Flor. Knowing James and Rob the owners from their Ginger Pig days, we are always impressed by their professionalism and the quality of the food at Wild Flor…not to mention some of the best service in Brighton & Hove! Dog friendly too! Thank you for making it a special night. Julie, Andy & Josie the dog

Little bit drafty but the breakfast nap deal excellent value. And I’ve never so far eaten sourdough focaccia for the breakfast bap. Great value for money for the breakfast in nowadays putting silly prices on things because people just complain and pay up. Not here they consider the real value of the food. Recommended !

Starters were incredibly small for the price; mains were incredibly expensive (£20 for pretty much everything on the menu) and soft drinks served directly in a small glass. Did not feel like a high-quality experience; and the service was not particularly warm and friendly.
