Spent a wet Sunday here for a wedding. Food was excellent and the staff exemplary. Great location, tucked away in a small north Sheffield valley. Bit of a gem. Loads of parking. Bar prices the only negative, but then that is pretty much the case in most hotels.

We were given a food voucher for our birthdays for this restaurant and we were not disappointed. Sat by the fire until our table was ready. The staff were friendly. Really enjoyed our starters, celeriac soup. Followed by fish & chips, the batter was a little more crisper than I would have like but still ok. Would definitely visit again maybe for a Sunday lunch. Definitely worth a visit.

I would have liked to have given 5 stars but purely on the fact that drinks are so expensive here I have knocked one off. On a more positive note, this hotel is a gorgeous period building with lots of old and quirky features that you would expect from an old building. Located in the hills on the outskirts of Sheffield. We attended a wedding here and stayed overnight, so I can't comment on the surrounding area. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are tastefully decorated and supplied with everything you'd need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The food we were served was exceptional, professionally presented with lots of flavour. I would recommend a stay here, even with my opening comments. Unfortunately, this appears to be the norm nowadays wherever you stay.

Very nice hotel, romantically located. Breakfast was delicious and the staff was very friendly. The negative point was the shower, which only had a trickle coming out of it, so you could hardly take a shower.

Went here for a wedding, didn't see the rooms so can't comment on these. Food is divine and the location is lovely. I wouldn't recommend it for a winter wedding as when they are rearranging the room the wedding & reception is in - you're forced to go outside in the freezing winter weather until they're done. That's the reason for my lower score. Need to think about providing a lounge area for situations like this

I really wish I could say that my wedding at Whitley Hall was the happiest day of my life but sadly it wasn’t.. We booked 1 year in advance and don’t feel like we were supported at all with what we needed to plan or how things would work. I had to arrange chats at the hotel otherwise we would have never heard anything until a few weeks before the wedding when we were told we could book the final details meeting. On the day, we had a wedding coordinator who I saw before the wedding, just after we married, when it was time for the meal, and when she said she’d be leaving for the evening at 8pm. I thought she would be around if I needed anything but when I looked to try ask her questions she was no where to be found. I had to go to the reception staff who were lovely but shouldn’t have had to do anything for me. We asked the DJ to start earlier weeks before and was told that was fine - on the night he came at the normal time. He also asked our guests how much rooms were, and when told, said it was overpriced! There was also no sweet cart which I had asked for at the final details meeting. There was no one to ask about this apart from some kitchen staff who said they would find out but didn’t come back to us. The next morning the wedding team tried to say it wasn’t included in our package but when I pushed, they apologised and said they would refund it with the bond which they have, but I wouldn’t have asked for it if I didn’t want it on the night. The venue is wonderful, and I had a nice day, but seeing as though it was my wedding I shouldn’t have had to be so stressed on the day. I never make a fuss, but I am just so disappointed with the wedding team. The hotel staff were absolutely amazing, especially Karen who was on reception at the time. I would stay at the hotel again, but would never recommend anyone to get married there.

Stayed at the Whitley Hall Hotel for our friends wedding recently. Lovely historical place with peaceful and well layout entertainment areas outside. The wedding was outdoors in the Pagoda, which was a great setting as it was a sunny day. Surrounding lawns and outdoor heated areas enabled late evening seating and relaxing with a few bars available. (Pricing of drinks a little high but expected at these events and places). Room was spacious and lovely. Would come back again for a relaxing stay and recommend as a wedding venue as Peacock room was lovely for the bride and groom.

I visited here recently as I'm shooting a wedding here. So my perspective is more from it being a wedding shoot location than that of an overnight guest. It's a stunning location. The house and gardens have tonnes of character. Everything is close by and it's easier to get around for guests. You don't have far to walk to get you're wedding photos done in beautiful surroundings. The staircase up to the rooms is lovely. Lots of old wood around. It's very dimly lit inside, but that adds to the character. I have to say nothing was too much for the staff there. They were very welcoming and friendly. There is a great location over a small lake at the back for shots with a water fountain in the background. If you're considering what venue you want to host your wedding, from an aesthetica point of view, it's beautiful. I've shot at quite a lot of different venues across the North of England and this has to be one of the loveliest. Good luck with planning your wedding. All the best.

Booked restaurant 1584 at Whitley Hall to hold a 70th birthday meal for my Mum. Didn’t know what to expect, having been to Whitley in the past a few times with mixed results. Have to say, everything was absolutely perfect, the meals (Sunday Lunches) were lovely, and very good quality, and all the starters and desserts were equally good. But more than that, the service was exemplary; friendly, courteous, professional, warm and welcoming, but also prompt without any long delays or mistaken food orders, equally we were not rushed at any point, even when our party were the only ones left in the restaurant. Amanda in particular deserves special mention as she couldn’t do enough for us, but all the staff made every effort to make my Mum’s day as special as it could be. Communication before the day over email was also responsive and helpful, answering my questions without problem. The setting is of course beautiful, which helps, and we felt the cost was more than reasonable for what we had. Will definitely be returning.

We've been patrons of Whitley Hall for many years and have always found the staff and food to be excellent. Unfortunately today (5th April 2023) as part of a family birthday treat the food was below the standard we've come to expect. The soup starter (Mushroom & Thyme) could only be described as pureed baby food. The two fish pie mains were disappointing and presented poorly on the plate. The accompaniments - garlic butter and roasted carrots - were also poor, especially the garlic butter which appeared to be a large quantity of ordinary butter in a ramekin. The Cumberland Sausage main looked unappetising and lacked flavour. The only main out of 4 that seemed to work was the chicken stroganoff. When asked by the waitress how were the meals we told her it was not up to the usual standard. When asked if the chef was new she answered yes, yet later on the receptionist said that wasn't the case. Clearly something has changed? We seldom give food reviews but on this occasion we felt the need to because of our prior experience. We felt embarrassed for the other couple with us as this was their first visit. The staff were accommodating as usual and when paying the bill the receptionist endeavoured to do her best with our complaints, however the non-appearance of the manager was noticeable. The reduction off the bill was appreciated although it didn't compensate for spoiling the occasion. It's a shame that Whitley Hall won't be at the top of our "places to eat" list for the foreseeable future.

We would love to stay again, and we will as we have friends who are living locally. Thank you @spiffingtravels The only down falls were:- The wifi was a little weak for us as we were working and taking conference calls from the room, and we had a very awkward moment with the waitress at breakfast. We were booked in but we arrived 6 minutes after our time slow (last customers of the morning) and she said the chef was restricting the breakfast service. We would've liked a service with a smile, same at our welcome check-in. Lastly, the only thing we would comment on would be the breakfast prices at £15 per person.
