Come from Essex for the day. Had pie and mash from whites have to say not impressed have had better. But then I'm sure some people will say it's the best they have ever had. You will have to make up your own mind.

As my mrs is a east ender she knows her Pie, mash & liquor.She claims that it is the finest around,Being very fussy eater she demands the best.We always do a bulk purchase & freeze the meals (Freezes well)Whites is a very friendly, clean place with the staff always read to help.The food is good, hot & well presented.The cost is very reasonable.We do return on a regular basis.We will be back again.When you visit Walton-on-the-Naze you must visit White's Pie & mash shop.

After having heard that they were open for take away only, I went there to take some home and they did not disappoint as usual . The food and liquer is of good quality and very tasty. I can highly recommend them !!.

This was a first for us, we wanted to try traditional Pie and Mash so when we spotted this place we went in for lunch. We all enjoyed our first experience of pie, mash and liquor.

Apart from the London prices and the unsettelling option of gravy instead of liquor (!) this is my new goto pie and mash shop. Traditional atmosphere and nicely located in the Naze since moving to Essex I have been several times. I avoid weekends though - can get busy.

We now live in an area where pie n mash is not readily available, so jumped at the chance to savour this culinary delight while on a nostalgic trip to Walton.I went for double, double of course, and the mash was a mountain, about 5 scoops, with plenty of liqueur. The pies were cooked to perfection and the whole meal was excellent, very traditional. The service was great and social distancing measures were being observed, despite them being very busy. Would highly recommend.

Nice and tasty disappointed with portion size, even smaller with take away. Perhaps staff could smile and have more social skills

As a ‘Northerner’ this was a new experience for me, I believe such establishments were once common in the East End, but have now almost died out.Menu is simplicity itself, any combination of pie, eels and mash in increasing quantities. We had single pie, single mash which was plenty. The pie was unspecified, but some sort of minced meat and the liquor was not gravy but thin parsley sauce.All very nice and I would definitely come again. Needless to say we gave the eels a very wide berth!Very reasonable price. Closes at 18.00.

Still simple tasty hot wholesome pie mash with liquor or gravy. Stewed or jellied eels available. Cash only preferred. This remains our special treat every holiday to Walton x.

Do love pie and mash and whites has been there as long as I can remember. This was right up there with some of the best . Very popular Saturday which is great to see . Will be a regular treat when in town .

A typical Pie and Mash shop selling pie and mash as well as stewed and jellied eels all of course with liquor.Service is at the counter and after ordering you find a table with seat, a bit tight for a big chap, but it reminds you to go steady with this lovely cheap food.One pie and mash and another double pie and mash came to less that £12 which is excellent value.Next visit I'm going for the stewed eels.

This is traditional east end pie and mash with stewed eels on the side. There is only one main type of pie, because that's the way it is, and yes they are specifically flat for a reason. No peas required!My family have been eating here for generations, and long may that tradition continue.Best tip: Order double pie, single mash and liqueur for a small appetite and double double for the hungry!If you're bringing the kids, a bowl of mash and liqueur goes down really well.

My wife and I were visiting the area for the first time. We had parked our car on the seafront (B1034). After walking along the beach we decided that we needed something to eat, so we headed into the town centre.On walking down the High Street we found Whites Pie and Mash Shop on the left and we decided to call in. To be honest I had not been aware of the shop in advance. I was looking forward to seeing the food as we had visited a similar shop in Whitby (Humble Pie and Mash) and it was great.On entering the shop we sat on the right. To order your food you need to go to the servery, like a Fish and Chip Shop. We looked at the menu and decided on Pie, Mash and Gravy. I went to the servery and ordered food. I ordered single pie, double mash and gravy for the both of us - you can have different combinations (single or doubles). The mash is served with the use of an ice cream scoop, which is not that big so I would recommend double mash, which is four scoops. The food is quickly put onto the plates at the servery. Payment is only by cash - if you have no cash then don’t worry as there is a cash machine just across the road.I took the food to the table and we tucked in. We both thought the food tasted good. The pie was nice, but not overly big - it was a bit flat, possibly this is just how it is made. After I finished I thought I should have had double pie with my double mash as the pie did taste nice.The food was good and the prices were good also. There is only one type of pie you can buy, not like the shop in Whitby which does different types of pies. I personally would love to see the shop doing mushy peas also, as I love the combination of pie, mash, mushy peas and gravy - just my choice.In summary it was good food at a good price. The staff were friendly. I may visit again if I was in the area.

Very good atmosphere and excellent pie and mash and stewed eels..it was perfect for my friends as they had to travel some distance to get there that is why I chose Saturday as they close at 6 o'clock .

3 couples had Pie Mash & Liquor at White's yesterday. We arrived about 2pm and the place was empty by the time we left at about 4.30 it was full. The Pie & Mash was delicious and at an average £7 for 2 Pies, 4 scoops of Mash & Liquor plus a cup of tea the price is very reasonable. We will revisit and would recommend to all those who love Pie & Mash.

Well gave this a try in the end, and was it worth the visit? Ok, here we go, my synopsis!!2+2 and 1+1 and glass of coke £13.50.Let me just start by saying that we are a bit spoilt in East and Sarf London, so i would say that us makes us pretty good judge's, and this was never gonna compare, but I was expecting that anyway TBH.Pies were bit too doughy for me, but had fair amount of mince in. Mash was fine although prefer it spooned on to the plate as opposed to the old Ice Cream scoops.Vinegar was tasteless, even the chilli, but overall wasn't too bad.Would I go out of my way to eat there again, probably not, if I was in the area, would I eat there again, I think I would, even with it being rather expensive compared to what we are used to!!2 pleasent young ladies serving with a nice smile.Thanks Whites!

Had a lovely pie n mash on last day of holiday with the family, not much space at tables but the food was nice and staff welcoming.

Pie n Mash takes you back to the old days in London. One or Two pies, a great dollop of mash and that lovely Liquor all over. Don't forget the vinegar!

Ime not knocking it its very good .But when you come from the east end you cannot compare it .on that note it's very good.

Found Whites pie and mash whilst exploring Walton on the Naze after purchasing a beach hut near the pier.Coming originally from London we were familiar with pie and mash from years ago .Sadly as the shops had died out and we had moved away we were eager to give it a try.It was superb , just as we remembered it from the old days.Great authentic pies , cracking mash and lovely liquor. We have been 3 more times since our first visit and have had it as a takeaway.I even tried eels for the first time and found something new that I like.Cant wait for the better weather to return, allowing us to visit our beach hut and again to Whites.

The food here is superb. So tasty and good size portions. Love coming here regularly. Shop is a little small so does get very busy but that’s due to the quality of the food.

Never been to such a shop before but after eating here will definitely be going back. Pies had a great home cooked taste and liquor was out of this world.

I've eaten a lot of pie and mash over the years I usually use harringtons in tooting south London but this place beats them all absolutely delicious unlike the worst fish and chips I've ever had in Yates.

Visiting from New Zealand, having not had Pie Mash since the 50tys in East London. This is a great venue, with good views of the kitchen. This is a top operation with original tastes if you are looking for a trip to the past.

I haven't had proper pie and mash for ages and Whites Pie and Mash Shop didn't disappoint. Nice pie, plenty of mash and loads of liquor. Went down so well that we visited twice in the five days we stayed in Walton. They serve a nice mug of tea as well!!

This is our go to pie and mash shop we have lived in Clacton for over 30 years and have used Whites for all that time, best pie & mash outside the east end.

For years I've seen Whites in Walton but not made it in for whatever reason... We did recently though and it was very quick friendly service with very tasty and satisfying food. We will be going back time and again

I would like to have given a better rating and I would have if I hadn't seen a sausage dog being fed by its filthy owner off of the restaurant's spoon numerous times and letting it bark. How can the restaurant allow this? They will not keep their 5 rating for hygiene very long if this is what is acceptable.

We visited here and found it to be over priced and the quality of the pies were not great, pastry stodgy. The worst part was seeing a dog being fed by it's owner under her table with the cutlery. They should not allow dogs in food places. Other customers witnessed this who showed their disgust. Will not return here when there's plenty of other places to eat that don't allow dogs in, especially to lick the cutlery.

My granddaughter needed the use of an highchair. Looking forward to enjoying our pie & Mash upon asking for an highchair we was told, rather rudely, that highchairs are not available. I conveyed my disappointed and pointed out that 'your website which was updated this year, clearly states 'highchairs available' . The young lady just shrugged her shoulders and couldn't care less that we needed one for our baby. None of staff were friendly in fact most were stand offish. Why advertise the use of highchairs if they are not available. Had to sit baby on out lap and try and eat. No toilets available either. Would have been useful to have had use of a toilet facility to change the baby too. They were not keen to supply hot water for baby's bottle either. This place is certainly NOT baby/family friendly. Our visit was certainly not made easy. We won't be going there again. Big big disappointment. Please please update your website to avoid disappointment to other young mum's with babies.

Visited Walton on the naze for the weekend, was recommended to me by family. Best pie and mash ever! Clean, tasty food and friendly staff. Really welcoming. Would highly recommend.

If you wanted to visit whites pie and mash shop, make sure you’ve only got sterling as They will not take the Scottish notes. even though it’s legal tender, my friend was refused to pay with the Scottish notes, even though it says on the notes the bearer is to promise to pay, written on the notes.. “because the boss doesn’t like it,” the lady behind the serving counter wouldn’t take the money. could you please explain why,!!!

Thats it really, a real disappointment when you cannnot make a decent pie (have a choice) or gravy and mash. Its with regret I write this and did note that others amazingly think its brilliant, one guy was getting takeaway! Seemed like a nice place and people

Very disappointing, had been told how good this place was. However as a group of us went , I had to sit and watch everyone in group eat as when asked what was gluten free was told in a very abrupt manor NOTHING, not even a plate of mash........ if you have allergy's avoid this place at all costs. The rest of group having tried this all for the first time said it was ok but nothing to write home about and would worry about coming back.

Timed it just right for the best pie and mash I've had in a long time, 2 minutes later they're standing at the door waiting for a table. Keep up the good quality.

Took the wife there for a traditional pie & mash. Was not disappointed the food was not bad, may be a little better than the pie & mash shop in Clacton, but that's a matter of opinion, as my wife preferred the pie & mash shop in Clacton, she prefers the pie & mash there.one big advantage the one in Clacton does have is the price, it is much better value for money, Whites pie and mash is very expensive and not any better.

Had double double and jellied eels yesterday. As good as ever and well worth the drive. This is one of my favourite pie and mash shops and a must for pie and mash lovers. As I live 100 miles away I'm not here as often as I'd like, but 3-4 times a year I visit.

If you expect a friendly & welcoming atmosphere think again!!.. ALL staff here are extremely rude (youngish Male and female) and won’t even give you eye contact and if they do it certainly won’t be followed by a smile! They have no manners what so ever so don’t expect a “thank you” when you pay for your overpriced grub!

Nice pie and mash but quite expensive compared to the one in Clacton, which is just as good. The staff are polite enough but could do with a bit more enthusiasm and maybe smile occasionally. It’s very clean and tidy but no customer toilets.

Traditional pie mash and liquor cannot be surpassed and Whites really hits the spot. A cash only policy and a simple menu makes sure your visit is quick fast and easy. Not to mention a special treat. Truly a taste from the past and very much a holiday highlight.

Visited Whites at Walton today and decided to top it off with a fruit pie. Never have we been served with a shop bought pie before at a pie&mash; shop! It was truly awful!!!

Yet again the standard and quality of pie coupled with the flavour of the mash and liquor are exquisite. Vinegar and salt to taste leaves you full and satisfied every time. Well done

Very good pie n mash very tasty London dinner bit expensive as pie n mash shops go BTW ive been to a few when my wife asked for the toilet she was told they didn't have a toilet which I thought was illegal to have a restaurant without toilet facilities

This is the by far the best pie and mash I've tasted. The pies are full od mince and very juicy, the gravy inside ids lovely. The ash is creamy and the liquor is so tasty thay I love drinking it!!!. The stewed eels are lovely too. The place is spotlessly clean.

Was in Walton today and went on TripAdvisor to find a restaurant to eat at the end of day. Saw this as the number 1. And as I love a good pie and mash shop had to give it a try.

Certainly as good as any in London. I regularly cycle here from Colchester just to visit this wonderful pie and mash shop. Five stars seem insufficient!

Having grown up on pie mash from a kid it still one of my favourite meals. Whites is certainly one of my favourite pie mash shops to visit. Still very traditional in side and plenty of old photos on the walls. Myself I always have double pie and mash with a cup of tea. Still served in the traditional way as I remember as a kid.

Encouraged by my husband to try Pie and Mash , I ordered Pie Mash and Liquor . Tried it and YUM - found that I really like it . Pies all freshly made , Mash tasty , not sloppy !!!! Liquor just tops it off. I've returned 3 more times in less than 14 days - complete convert to this food experience.
