The Creek in Tendring

We had such a lovely meal in a great atmosphere and very friendly staff. The food was excellent as usual we would highly recommend to anyone.

A really lovely meal here on Saturday. The food is a delight, the tastes and textures are always wonderful. The mackerel pate was very tasty, the brioche with it always perfectly done. The chicken with French style peas was a symphony of flavour. Finished the meal with a delicious mango Eton mess.

This is not my first visit, or review, for The Creek! It never disappoints and once again we had a fabulous evening of outstanding food, great wine and super service. Caroline at front of house is brilliant as was her lovely colleague serving us last night. You always get a warm welcome, relaxing environment and great atmosphere. As for the food, it was fantastic! There were 6 of us and we all had a variety of starters, mains & desserts and everyone one of them was delicious and great presentation. I had the seabass for my main and it was the stand our dish. Thanks again for a lovely evening and we can't wait to come back:)

There is not the slightest chance that the awards on the website (all the Essex ones are from over 4 years ago) would apply to this cooking. The problem is that it is a grand looking place, the food in the photos look fairly smart and the awards impressive. But a fried egg with ham in a muffin as a starter, and an over battered ‘catch of the day’ with peas and tartare sauce in infantilised little glass bowls ain’t top notch cuisine. To be fair, if you treat this as one up from a local cafe in nice surroundings with polite and friendly staff then it’s fine. . As for me, I left my main half eaten and vacated to the local Balti house from where I’m writing this review.

After reading such great reviews of this restaurant, we decided to book Sunday lunch for 8 of us celebrating 3 of us with birthdays. 1st course was ok although expensive. Our main courses were so disappointing. We were told that the lamb and beef were pink (which is how we like it) but the portions were very small and were raw in places. The vegetables were cabbage, carrots and peas. Not very inspiring for a restaurant of this calibre and just a couple of spoonfuls of each. Desserts were ok but again . Around £9 for a ‘banana split’ consisting of a banana, 2 small scoops of ice cream, a spoonful of cream and a few nuts were not like I imagined. We were each given a lollipop after. Not really something you give adults. No one of the best Sunday lunches we’ve had but the most expensive.

Absolutely wonderful food, service left abit to be desired but we were warned prior of a staffing crisis and they did the best they could, will definitely be back because the quality of food was so good and that's the main thing, just hope they sort the staff issues out by then so the service level can match that of the food.

We had a really delicious lunch for 7 people, we were extremely well looked after. The food and service were incredible, we went after it was recommended by a friend and we will definitely go again. One of the best meals I have ever eaten, every course was a delight with a great menu to choose from.

Went here for the first time with a group of friends. The food was of a very high standard and the service was excellent. A good selection of beers too.

yet again another stunning meal at the best resteraunt around, do not pass up the ham and egg starter. it's a deceptive champion, gorgeous ham hock on a muffin bed with a perfect egg hugging the flavours together. the sirloin was perfect as was the sea bass! followed by eton mess and an apple crumble! unhurried, civilised and classy Caroline and Terry have cracked the secret of proper fine dining 11/10

We have dined here thee times over the last six months, twice with family and most recently as a couple for the New Years Eve lunchtime celebration. On all occasions the meals have been thoroughly enjoyed and the service has been excellent. Do not hesitate to book!!

Sharing plate for two - yay! Lamb, potatoes, parsnip in a pea sauce - yay! Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream - yay! We’ve just moved into the area and are pleased to find somewhere great to eat. All food was delicious, service excellent and with a lovely warm ambience.

Very poor festive menu , very small portions , turkey seemed to be from a packet . Tiny sea bass fillet Christmas pudding microwaved and dry . Mince pies from a packet , very expensive for what we had

The chef, Terry, never fails to provide a wonderful three course meal. The textures and flavours for each dish are spot on, and make such a change from the ordinary fare one gets at so many other places. Really recommend people visit this restaurant, the best in the area in my opinion.

There were 4 of us. 3 different starters, 3 different mains and 3 different desserts. A small menu, with enough variety to allow the chef to get close to perfection. A look at recent reviews, also suggests consistency. We're looking forward to our next visit.

This is the 4th time we have been here. Always come when on holiday in Essex. Food is beautiful , and would highly recommend it. Care is taken with every dish. Landlady is very friendly too, but never intrusive. Will definitely come again

Totally unexpected experience in the Essex countryside. A fabulous meal of lamb rump, crushed potatoes, pureé of cauliflower, and prune jus. All cooled to perfection! The best meal I’ve had all year. Highly recommended.

We went here to celebrate my birthday and what an excellent choice it was! It's a very smart-casual restaurant with excellent service, atmosphere and food. The wine was perfect too. I started with a crab salad and my husband had a delicious liver pate. We then both had the sea bass which was grilled to perfection. Great ice cream desserts too! The chef really knows what he's doing and his wife, (Caroline?) made you feel welcome and was equally charming! I only regret we don't live closer so that we could return regularly!

High quality restaurant with a very good value 3 course lunch offering. Nice bright dining areas and a terrace for the better days. Vegetarians and pescatarians well-catered for in a compact but nicely balanced menu.

Wow, where do I start! We bought a holiday home close by a few years ago and stumbled across the Creek. We regularly attended as we simply have never experienced somewhere so consistent in quality, service, ambiance, value for money and taste. Every time we eat here we are served something outstanding. Terrence is such a good chef and always puts all his efforts in creating a well presented tasteful delight. Caroline is lovely and very professional looking after her guests and making them feel comfortable and delivers 100% service always as do all of the staff here. I have been meaning to book this place for some time now since it changed hands I can remember it as the The Flag pub but since then it has been rejuvenated into a lovely restaurant retaining a lot of the old features.I'm not sure but I get the feeling this is a family run affair, everyone was friendly from when we arrived which is always a bonus.Both me and my partner decided to go for the 2 course menu with fresh vegetable soup to start then the carved beef sirloin for our main the food was so lovely we decided to add the 3 course “The Creek” split caramelised banana, salted caramel ice cream, roasted walnuts, crème Chantilly Mmmmmmmmm!!To sum up the experience it was a nice ambience and the food here was both a joy and a triumph I will certainly be returning!!

With the weather being so hot we were planning a nice little drive in the country and a good lunch.While i was enjoying my early morning cuppa and reading my iPad I chanced upon a newspaper article about Essex restaurants and reviews they had answered.I was intrigued by the creek and viewed their Facebook page because I’m nosey.The lovely pictures and interesting menus posted made me think it would be nice to visit for lunch,we are serious foodies and today would be a good opportunity.On arriving we were slightly early for opening time but a lovely waitress came out and took us to a nice table inside which viewed the garden.All the Covid protocols were in place but not over the top and didn’t spoil the ambience .The menu was so nice ,it’s not often I say this but I could have eaten any of the items on it.I chose a glass of Californian Zinfandel which was delicious ,hubby had a bottle of beer and we sat back and waited for the food to arrive.Service was really good and our starters came up quickly.I had the deep fried Camembert which was great and hubby had langoustine bisque,both starters were despatched in quick time and were very good.For mains I had the sea bass on prawn risotto which was great but I had serious food envy looking at bobs deep fried plaice with whitebait and fat chips. It looked amazing and he let me steal some chips and taste the whitebait.Again both dishes were beautifully presented and we cleared our plates .We would have loved the creek split for pud but sadly had no room and didn’t want to be too sleepy on the drive home. The bill was a delightful surprise not only was the food great it was also excellent value .Because we don’t live locally sadly we won’t be able to visit in a regular basis but if we lived nearer we definitely would.

They have a diverse but limited set menu here, although the staff were happy to adapt the menu for preferences and dietary needs. The restaurant was well spaced to adhere to social distancing measures. It was quite empty but the staff were attentive and helpful throughout. The food was full of flavour and great effort had been put in to developing the menu. Highly recommended.

I had the pleasure of enjoying an imaginative menu after a few days of sea side junk food. The salmon mouse starter on a crumpet was delicious, followed by beer battered cod and hand cooked crispy chips. The desert was a mango panna cotta with a texture and set that was spot on. All this at a very reasonable £34 including a Peroni. Located between Clacton and Colchester its worth a visit if you are fed up with pizza and the like and want to get out in the country.
