The Victory in Tendring

Spent the weekend in local caravan park and ventured to ‘The Victory’ for Sunday lunch. It certainly did not disappoint. We pre-booked due to group size (10) and we had to pre-order which we expected. What a lovely welcoming pub, wish it was my local. We ordered a mixture off the menu for children and adults plus desserts. Everything was delicious and was piping hot and nothing was incorrect. Staff were so hospitable and could not do anymore. Wine was delicious too. What a great spot and would definitely recommend.

Really friendly, cosy pub. Good selection of food and drink. Food was top notch! Probably one of the best steaks I've had in a long while. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

Friends, I had another wonderful lunchtime at the Victory today. It is by far my favourite pub in Walton. Mark and Emma are the top landlords at the Victory. They are a wonderful team and so welcoming. Both the food and the real ales - my particular choice of a tipple - are excellent. Mark is also the chef and what a great job he does too. The bar team are friendly and efficient. There is always a good welcome at the Victory. Do book a meal at the Victory or call in for drinks. You will not be disappointed. I never have been. It is a great pub with a great atmosphere.

Very tasty and freshly prepared food - well above the usual standard in pubs. Very attentive and friendly service. If we are in the area again, we will definitely come back.

Not many good places around in Walton on the Naz but we found The Victory which is a lovely English Pub serving great wine and amazing food, great lunch

Visited with my family a month or so ago and I cannot speak highly enough on this place. We’re not local, “fell” into The Victory trying to find somewhere for a drink and lunch with my wife and toddler. As soon as we entered (mildly busy) we were greeted by a very friendly chef and staff who showed genuine care for our child, in making him comfortable and entertained while we ate and had a beer. Our toddler was being a toddler and knocked over a glass of water, the barmaid rushed over to clear up and even gave our child her drinking cup with built in straw so it didn’t happen again - a small point but it’s the little things. We ordered the tapas expecting average pub grub - genuinely the best food I’ve had form a pub in years and the service (again) was the best I’ve had ANYWHERE. If only more places and staff took as much pride in their delivery of service as this place. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely pop back when in WOTN again.

On holiday staying in Walton on the Naze. Pub recommended in visitors book....many times so we booked Sunday lunch. Delicious, fresh food....roast potatoes were amazing and generous quantity of meat with plenty of fresh veg. Brilliant, friendly service.....the landlady (I'm assuming...didn't ask her name, sorry) was so helpful spending time giving lots of tips on places to go in the area. Returning again today for fish and chips!

We visited as a booked group of 6. The staff were lovely. When our dog was unwell they went beyond all reasonable effort to support us and more than anything, they were kind. The food was lovely and so were the locals. Thank you very much for everything, we will return.

We was going in there for food but looked at the menu it was quite expensive the lady on the bar was moody it was not wheelchair friendly and not disability friendly

Visited the pub today with friends after walking from Frinton-went jn for a drink then decided to stay for a light lunch-warm welcome from t staff as soon as we walked in. Drinks served straight away&menus brought to us-the food was delicious -beautifully presented too. 2in t party had t prawns another confit of duck all super! Wr had more drinks-lovely atmosphere, excellent food service and atmosphere✨Have had s drink there a few times-will certainly br back to eat again soon! Just excellent!

Definitely worth a visit, the nicest pub with the friendliest of staff an the loveliest of food. Hidden away in a corner off the main street the pub is very welcoming and the food first class!

Called into the Victory one afternoon when visiting Walton. Didn't eat but menu looked good, traditional pub grub and lots of visitors complimenting the staff. Had a few pints, read the paper and enjoyed a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Staff were friendly and good range of drinks. Best pub we experienced in Walton.

Consistently the team at The Victory deliver great food and service each and every time. Last night we were looked after by Harry, Nic and Finn… Even though the pub was busy, service was excellent as we’ve come to expect. All dishes prepared by Mark and the kitchen team were excellent!!! One of our favourite places to eat in Walton :)

Went in for a pint and some food with my partner and was told only those with reservations could eat which is absolutely understandable. Then we saw a couple right after us be told there's still several roasts available and no reservation was required.

We have been visiting Walton On The Naze for years and The Victory is our favourite establishment. The staff are so friendly & welcoming, the atmosphere is always good and the food is top notch! The best fish and chips I’ve ever had!

Racial Prejudice at the Victory - Emma My family and I have attended the victory for many years as we have a holiday let in the area. We frequently would take visiting guests and recommend the pub for the sunday roasts. However on Saturday night 27/04/24 my friend had entered the pub to ask if the kitchen was still serving food. Instead of simply stating the kitchen had closed, Emma followed with “You were in here last week asking for food and i told you no then as well so leave” My friend was not in The Victory last week as he was with me in London. Further, this is his first time in Walton on the Naze- so this is definitely not the case. Emma had racially prejudiced my friend by assuming he was another brown person. My friend was incredibly hurt by these comments and it has impacted his holiday experience within Walton on The Naze. After I spoke to Emma about this and request she apologise for her unacceptable and racist comment, she outright refused. She instead doubled down in her statement offering to show me camera footage of my friend in the pub. However when I asked to see said camera footage she instead phoned the police and demanded i leave the property. Again this could have been avoided if Emma had just admitted she had wrongly identified my friend. I am disappointed in both The Victory and Emma’s behaviour. After nearly a decade of visiting the Victory we will be taking our business elsewhere. As a member of Walton on the Naze’s community, I believe it is crucial for businesses to uphold principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Mistakenly assuming someone's identity based on race not only perpetuates harmful stereotypes but also creates a hostile environment for customers from diverse backgrounds. I am happy for The Victory to respond to this review in order to discuss this further.

Lovely friendly staff and wine and beer was great. Good prices too. We have enjoyed a few drinks and meals here now. Always happy with the service and the food is just amazing. Would recommend. Booking is a good idea in the busier times, to grantee a table.

Amazing food, amazing atmosphere and a fantastic treat for the family. We love Walton on the Naze, and especially an evening at The Victory. The food is 5* and the service is second to none. It's what brings us back year after year. See you next year!

Great food, very tasty. Service a bit slow. Not much of an atmosphere but no complaints about that!

There were 6 of us at the table, 5 of us had the Cod, chips and peas. The fish was superb beautifully fresh with perfect batter which was light and crisp. The chunky chips looked really nice but were a bit soft and didn't taste as nice as they looked, hence only a 4. Service was great. Lovely waitresses and a lovely warm welcome from all the staff.

Absolutely wonderful establishment. Food selection was excellent and quality was first class. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the surroundings were extremely relaxing. If you are in the area this is a must visit for food-drink.

First time visit yesterday, birthday treat, wife and dog in tow. Lovely old style pub, locals friendly great atmosphere, dog friendly and the food is amazing. Choice was based on quality not quantity, staff attentitive couldn't find fault with any aspect, ribs were lush, hamburger lush, and the mixed fruit crumble to die for.....a word of warning don't wear a white top if you have the ribs....thank you Victory...

We walked in one weekday evening whilst staying at Frinton. We’d visited the pub some years ago with family. There were a few people in sat at a table, older generation and the music was blaring. We stood at the bar and could see the two bar staff at the bar. They saw us. We stood and waited, and waited, the music seemed to be getting louder, I was getting more stressed, partner was looking forward to a pint…..in the end we said sod it, let’s get the Chinese next door and a few cans from Tesco. No wonder pubs are closing. For locals only? Zero for atmosphere and service. Actually minus zero

Welcoming, clean and cared-for pub. Stopped by for a very nice ale following a recommendation. We were not here at lunch time but the food menu looked interesting. Looking forward to returning.

We did book but turned up a little earlier but allowed a table! Roast dinners were amazing and the Fish and chips also amazing.. Staff so friendly and service exceptional.. Thank for a wonderful meal and atmosphere x

We popped into the Victory for a few drinks with out toddler and was warmly greeted and had excellent service, our toddler was loving life in the family friendly environment.

Lovely cosy pub. Comfortable with friendly staff. Dog friendly too. Great selection of beers, ales, cider, gin etc. The food menu had a great selection too - I had the Beer battered cod and I've never tasted cod so good, the batter was so delicious which was homemade along with the homemade tartar sauce and minted mushy peas - I didn't want my dinner to end. I will definitely be returning. Such a hidden gem 💎

Just been for Sunday lunch . Absolutely lovely . Very traditional roast dinner . Asked for my meat well done as it comes fairly pink usually and mine came out perfectly fine for my own personal taste . Big generous portions and all fresh . Will definitely be back to try other meals .

Made a visit to Walton today, me and my wife, we eat at this pub/restaurant, we both had fish n chips and tbh probably the best Fish I have had ever and trust me I have had my fair share, the batter was crispy the fish was fresh, the whole meal was delicious. Also the service was fantastic, quick polite service. Highly recommend this lovely place!!!!

Just went to The Victory with my husband, toddler and my dog for lunch. We hadn't booked and was just visiting the area. The lady behind the bar said that they were fully booked, then came back and said they could seat us in the bar, which was really nice of them. Being vegetarian, we were disappointed in the lack of veggie options. Unless you were a meat-eater, you are pretty limited. Needless to say, the mushroom burgers that we chose were delicious, if not a little soggy, but that's to be expected for a large flat mushroom. What I was most disappointed about was that there were no vegetarian options on the children's menu. Chicken nuggets, fish goujons or sausages - all served with chips. I appreciate they probably won't get many vegetarian children come into the pub, but that's poor. At least offer a veggie sausage option or something as well. Anyway, we ended up ordering the hummus and flatbreads for our daughter, which she enjoyed and devoured all the olives! Not a fan of the turmeric and coriander hummus though. Overall, a nice meal, just needs more veggie options.

A locals pub, friendly atmosphere and great service. Made to feel very welcome, reasonably priced drinks topped it off. Definitely a place to visit when in need of a stiff drink or 4!

Fresh flowers on the restaurant tables, toilets that don't smell like toilets and Guinness for under a fiver. What's not to like.

I can’t praise this place highly enough, we had booked dinner for 6 people three adults and three kids and we were running late and the kitchen closed at 8pm and we got there around 7.45, also another friend and her husband wanted to join us, the staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble, they quickly moved tables to accommodate 8 of us. Then one of the kids wet himself and they quickly mopped up without a fuss. The food was outstanding, I had a steak which was cooked to perfection. The staff really went the extra mile and were lovely kind and helpful even though we were late and a bit chaotic.

Wow food fantastic we had fish and chips fresh fish not frozen big chips with mushy peas and sliced gherkins with tartar sauce all hot really enjoyed, staff friendly can't wait to go back.

Absolute gem of a pub! Dog friendly, food is absolutely delicious and the staff are some of the loveliest in Walton! Felt so at home, it's a really relaxed and chilled venue!

First timer here, definitely worth the visit. The place was very clean, plus good flow of fresh air. The staff were super friendly, plus the fish and chips was perfect! God knows how they make the batter :) ill definitely visit again soon!

Lovely bar, great selection of gins and amazing team! I haven't tried the food but only heard the best thing about it. Would definitely recommend, Emma was the kindest and helped us when we had phone issues. If you go to Walton-on-the-Naze, make sure you stop at the victory.

Had a pre booked meal for 4 guests, 1 of which has quite severe mobility problems, the staff were superb and arranged a table with easy access and on the same level as the toilets, I did forget this and entered through the wrong door!..anyway..apart from my personal discrepancy we can only vouch for the super service with lovely food and drink, the fish and chip meals were well presented and more importantly tasty and very well cooked, the gourmet burger was juicy, meaty and full of flavour, the pie my wife had was hearty and full of flavour too .. faultless food, environment and staff.. do not miss out on this place if you're in the town!
