The welcome and atmosphere here is excellent, only marginally surpassing the beer. The food is excellent, too, and Sunday roast is highly recommended. Dogs and kids are welcome, so it's a great choice for a small diversion walking the canal or river paths.

I rang to make a table reservation and received a lovely warm response. At the pub, we received a friendly welcome. The owner has a great sense of humour, and responds to his guest's needs really well. The menu is varied and every item sounds tasty, making decisions very difficult 🤣. I had the Four Cheese and Onion Pie - amazing! The meals the others had also looked and smelled amazing. The staff seemed happy and definitely friendly.

Edited: Originally I gave a 5 star review for the food and service. However, we stayed on for a few drinks and came to realise the landlord is less than fair, and prepared to over looking the first person waiting at the bar in favour or serving locals. Original: We came in here when we stopped for the night on the canal. The beer was great, the sandwiches where amazing! Honestly the best sandwich ever! And all a very reasonable price too. Highly recommend stopping in this village if you are on the canal

We arrived at Kildwick at 1.40pm, needing a meal, one of our crew had difficulty in walking, the pub is down a slope, so after explaining the issue the landlady suggested that they could do hot sandwiches, chips and onion rings to take back to the boat, she also provided a 4 pint jug of beer, on promise of return. These were all provided in about 10-15 mins. Very pleasant people, very helpful. I have read some of the other reviews, whilst not disbelieving, there was no evidence of this today. Girls behind the bar lovely. Number of menus available very confusing. Reason is there is an outdoors menu which is the same as the indoors one but you can't have a starter or a pud outside! What an earth is that all about??? Why can't I have an ice cream in the sunshine if I want one?? I was going to eat but didn't bother because of this. Yes maybe I am being over sensitive but rules like this insense me and as the welcome was cold (probably thought I was a tourist rather than a local ) I decided not to bother. Very basic, but very clean, comfortable beds, plenty of hot water, and made to feel very welcome after a long drive to Yorkshire from Surrey. Had dinner in the restaurant on second evening, very enthusiastic young waitress, very helpful and pleasant. Food was very good. Very hot, well presented, and more than ample portions. If in the area, would recommend The White Lion, either for drinks and a meal or bed for the night. Good value for money.

Yep, I'll be back, enough said! or apparently not enough for TripAdvisor - well, a passing fancy to the location, and well worthy for a pint and a quick bite, both exceptionally tasty

We went for Sunday Lunch having booked in advance. Our table had been laid and reserved. We were served OK initially and had a decent roast. We were then forgotten about. I did ask one of the staff for the desert menu and he said that he would come over and take our order in a few minutes but he never returned. Eventually I went to the bar and managed to order there. However, we were forgotten about again and in the end we decided to leave without having desert. It seems that the food aspect of the pub is not managed properly.

Went into the restaurant to be told they are taking the last orders as it was nearly 3pm when they stopped serving. Not a problem I get that. Walked over the path to the farm shop. Lots of nice stuff, most of it not priced up so you had no idea what you were paying. The bits that were priced up were very expensive, we called in mid ride so wanted something light. Ended up with one of the saddest "sandwiches" I've ever had. 2 thick pieces of brown bread with 1 piece of ham, then cut in half. No relish or pickle or salad. Asked what hot drinks were available, a list was reeled off by the lady serving in a very uninterested way, if they had a drinks menu up we wouldn't have asked! Settled on a latte and a cappuccino, asked for extra hot as we were sitting outside, to be told "I can only press the button". Walked out with the sad sandwich and two luke warm cups of coffee which were probably 50/50 liquid and foam. Other people came out complaining about luke warm drinks and silly prices. Definitely will not be back and wouldn't recommend it.

Wow! A lovely traditional pub in the heart of Skipton. We popped in a for drink before finding somewhere to eat. As we enjoyed our drinks there was a steady stream of locals coming in for food so we decided to stay and eat. There was a good selection on the menu, including specials. The food was excellent, freshly cooked hearty food with generous portions. The staff were freindly and attentive and we will certainly be back next time we are in Skipton.
