White House Restaurant in Scarborough

A lovely relaxing place to have lunch during a day’s visit to Whitby on a wet Wednesday after a walk along the coast . One couldn’t help but feel very much at ease and relaxed in this Inn. The food, yes, you can always find better pub food with so much choice in Whitby but I rated this place because of its ambiance whilst enjoying home battered fish fingers and the fabulous sea views. I was made to feel very welcome by Kat and the team who were both friendly and efficient.

Awful place get the word out the manager is terrible discussing his profit in front of customers.. General reviews are overpriced poor food salvidged by the view

We really love it at The White House and always visit for food when we are in Whitby. We were recently in Whitby for 17 days and we ate here 4 times. Twice for Sunday lunch (highly recommend the roast) and twice for a main meal. Really lovely food and good service! We especially enjoyed eating our meal in the garden and looking at the fantastic view!

Just been and had Sunday lunch. Food was good but let down by the service , and disparity between the childrens Sunday lunch and the adults lunch. One potato more for the adults. @ £6.50 For this extra potato. The waiting staff could do with some training. Once the plates were just dumped at the end of the table with no indication whose was whose. Even when asked. Then at no point was there any interaction to check everything was ok, or offer any condiments or more drinks. On leaving we were asked are you all done? Yes thank you. Would you like anything else? Clearly not as were said we are leaving.

I ordered a crab sandwich and as it’s Whitby I expected fresh crab. It was awful cheap crab paste and they charged £10 for this appalling apology for fresh crab! My son ordered fish, chips & mushy peas - another mistake! The chips were swimming in oil and had you thrown the mushy peas at someone they would have been knocked unconscious, they were a solid rock hard lump in a bowl, definitely not mushy! The whole White House experience was terrible and we would never go again and not recommend to anyone. My advice - Stay Away!

Great location for a sunny calm evening and friendly staff but let down by the food. The Thai green curry is really disappointing - very watery and hasn’t seen coconut milk with no heat to it. We were told the supplier had substituted an alternative brand but it should not have been served to the customer. We had also reserved a table, arrived early and someone had taken our table.

On our previous visits the food has been wonderful, our last visit was shocking, went for evening meal with friends, my friend and I had mushroom stroganoff, it came and really we should had said something straight away, as it looked like a tomato sauce with peppers tomatoes and mushrooms in it, this was tasteless, the rice was not good either, we did say to the waitress it was not good, she said she would let the chef know, but we heard nothing back, complaint handled very badly, will not be visiting again!

Called in on spec. Had Sunday Dinner. Turkey and Ham. Massive portion. Absolutely delicious. Large selection of vegetables. Sat near window so view delightful too. Definitely would recommend.

Really good food. Homemade and staff very friendly. I asked if I could have the salmon without sauce and perhaps salad instead of vegetables. I was pleasantly surprised as the chef had obviously put some effort in going over and above with the salad. My husband had the steak pie which was a quarter of a dinner plate size pie rather than these tray bakes you often get given. He was really impressed with quality. We would definitely eat there again

Visited for Sunday lunch yesterday. Both of us had the pork roast and throughly enjoyed it. Good selection of veg: carrots, green beans, red cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower cheese. Nice to have mash as well as roast potatoes. Deserts were great too: biscoff cheese cake and cookie dough with ice cream. Service was good and great value for money. Will visit again.

The meal was excellent and a good atmosphere. I loved the Sweet and Sour Prawn and my daughter loved the Thai Green Chicken and the son in law loved his large East Coast Haddock plus the grandson was happy with his Chicken Nuggets. I would have loved to give them a star rating but the service was very slow and we had to wait nearly 45 minutes for the meal to arrive. Despite that, it was worth waiting for.

The plates were filthy underneath. The portion of chips was very small. The fish was delicious, the lasagna was mediocre. Worst meal ever, we have eaten here numerous times, never again. Not sure if it’s under new management but all new staff. 🥲

This is our second visit for food, I cannot fault the lovely homemade meals. I think it’s reasonably priced for food however we did feel the drinks were on the high side in comparison to other places in the area.

We passed this place and didn’t think it looked up to much but we were hungry and didn’t want to head into Whitby so we thought we would just see what it was like and I’m glad we did. The beer garden has the most amazing view of sandsend and the golf course The food was delicious and all home made, I watched the chef pick fresh herbs from the garden to use which impressed me, we shall be back!

We came here for a Sunday dinner one evening. The restaurant has good views but ours was blocked by a pillar. There is parking available, but not a huge amount. The food was amazing and the prices were reasonable, although the price of a pint of lager was expensive. The staff were friendly, but they didn't seem to be taking orders in the right order - multiple tables got to order before us even though we arrived before them.

Disgusted at the place. Twice in a matter of weeks there has been issues. They also admitted to not needing the custom anyway. We spent over £500 there on one sitting and will never go back.

The service was ok and the atmosphere was ok. But they messed up orders and over charged ir undercharged so we had to go in and pay the remaining smounts. Some of the meat was undercooked and the meat seemed cheap and aweful. The workers attitude sucks and it just isnt a very nice place. And they accused us of now paying for one order when we did and have bank proof. ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH AND WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK. I wouldnt reccomend this place at all its absolutely rubbish and is very expensive and isnt even that nice… dont go. Dont waste ur time….

We are local. For the second time in a row we had a tepid Sunday lunch. Certainly will not be going again. No apology nothing. Nothing more to be said. Complete contrast to other venues in our area.............

We booked ahead to this dog friendly pub and we're glad we did as it is a very popular place for locals and tourists a like. Our dog was made very comfortable with the provision of a comfy dog bed and some bickies. There was an excellent range of beer, my husband had Old Peculier. I had a soft drink. We ordered a beef Sunday Lunch and beef and potato pie. What a treat. Both were well cooked ,well presented and substantial. They came with plates of mixed veg and a large jug of real gravy. Yum. We did not have room for puddings but there is a good range for those wanting a sweet. The staff were friendly and efficient We had a lovely time.

We decided to visit Whitby for the weekend and wanted a traditional Sunday roast so we picked the White House and booked online So glad we did Excellent choice We had the beef which was so tasty Yorkshire pudding really big with roast potatoes real mashed potatoes broccoli cauliflower cheese parsnips sprouts carrots topped off with a really decent gravy All three of us ate the lot followed by a large bowl of Eaton Mess Very tangy berries wit meringue and cream A delight My daughter wanted a pot of tea - no problem and we tried the Virgin Mocktail a hot non alcoholic mulled wine Really lovely Everything well worth every penny We could hardly believe the bill it was so decent The place is like taking a step back in time with the atmosphere so warm The staff didn’t rush you and we left fully satisfied Nothing too much trouble they were all polite and smartly dressed Thanks to everyone kitchen staff and waiting staff alike A great team effort Just wished that they weren’t so far away as I know that we would frequent more Next time we are up that way I hope we can book a table as the White House’s reputation for all boxes ticked may find them fully booked Please don’t think about updating because this is a unique place where the customer is catered for in every aspect

Been coming to the whitehouse now for a few years. The food is great, always had polite friendly service, all in a clean and modern pub/restaurant. Eat or drink inside but it's best to go outside and drool over the stunning views. Awesome

If you like huge portions of food at reasonable prices you’ll be very happy at the White House. As it’s the nearest pub to the caravan site next door we gave if a try and enjoyed the huge plate of fish and chips after a long walk. The staff were very friendly and the setting nice.On our 2nd visit we ordered mushroom stroganoff which was more than disappointing. Maybe the chef was having a bad day as it bore little resemblance to a creamy paprika stroganoff but rather more of an extremely bitter and very basic tomato and onion sauce straight out of a jar. Unfortunately the staff were less attentive this time and we eventually gave up on the food, paid at the bar and left. In the restaurant business Your only as good as your last meal so We won’t be going back.

This is a hidden gem! A Theakstons (great beer) Pub/Restaurant (with accommodation) a 20 minute walk along the coast from the centre of Whitby. Food was good and staff friendly. If you want to get away from the fish and chip menus of Whitby, this is the place.Unfortunately, we returned on a Sunday afternoon for a drink and bar snack only to find the kitchen closes at 2.30. A pizza shack then opens in the beer garden (glorious country views) but the food here was fairly expensive and nothing to write home about.Nevertheless, the White House gets full marks on the basis the pub and restaurant were good - just avoid the pizza shack!

Buiten een borrel met schitterend uitzicht over zee en golfbaan. Binnen gegeten. We hadden niet gereserveerd en hadden geen uitzicht helaas. Het eten was “oké pubfood” maar niet meer dan dat. We moesten erg lang wachten op het nagerecht (ze waren druk met opruimen). Er was geen espressomachine dus hebben de koffie maar overgeslagen.

Dropped in on the off chance of a table was offered one that was by the walkway, were other customers and staff would walk past, asked for a different table as at this point we were the only ones in bar, was told all other tables were booked, fair enough.

Very friendly pub with nice staff. We were a party of 7 and sat outside enjoying the view. Everything came at the right time, all of it was lovely and hot and was really delicious. The beers are fantastic and seem to be lovingly cared for.

Have passed this pub/hotel a few times, today decided to call in for a bite to eat .Must say we were more than pleasantly surprised. My wife had a sandwich which came with a salad garnish as well as some tasty chips. I had the Haddock chips and peas which was plentiful and tasty.

They served me raw food and when I challenged the owner he said I was aggressive and asked my wife wether I hit her .

We've been to Whitby many times and this was our first time eating at the White House Restaurant. A great pub menu with nice kids options and gluten free choices too. The staff were friendly and the views lovely. A really nice place to have dinner and kids are made to feel really welcome. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We are staying close to Whitehouse on Sandfield Farm Caravan site and have called here twice now sitting outside with our dog x I cannot say enough about how friendly the staff are here x everywhere inside looks lovely x well worth a visit and wonderful views xx

We always visit this restaurant when in Whitby and as usual the food was fabulous, thick slices of beef served over velvet mash with tasty gravy and homemade yorkshire pud. The veg is served in separate dishes. One of the party tried the steak & ale pie and that didn't disappoint either. The staff & service are second to none.

We went up to Whitby for a two night break mid week. The room wasn't huge but it was very nicely appointed and perfectly good for what we needed - you have to remember this is an inn not a hotel - and this is reflected in the price. The staff were uniformly welcoming, friendly and helpful - special praise goes to Tim the bar manager who put us on to the locally distilled Whitby Gin which was so good we had to go and buy a bottle the next day! The food is excellent with breakfast being included in the price - the local kippers were a particular favourite of mine and the full English was also very good - all this while watching the early morning golfers play almost up to the windows on a beautifully kept links course. The evening menu will cater for most tastes - the Haddock, chips and peas being amazing value and the pieces of fish huge. All in all a brilliant little place only a few minutes drive from the harbour and one to which I think we will be definitely returning.

As we were staying at this Inn, we decided to dine in on two occassions. We were not disappointed.There was a good menu to chose from. The meals were very wholesome and well cooked. The dining and pub area is very conducive for an evening out.

Just had another visit for a light lunch and was pleased to find they allowed dogs into the bar area, despite it being a very busy Monday. Mussels were great and came with a hunk of fresh, warm bread to soak up the creamy garlic sauce. MMMmmmm

This was the final evening of our first trip in a motorhome (rented from Taste of Freedom) and we were going to head into Whitby for a bite to eat however this place was recommended by the caravan park so we thought we'd give it a try.

Myself, my sister and a cousin from Australia dropped in on the off chance on a Saturday evening, the restaurant was busy but an extremely friendly and helpful waitress found us a table, she explained that we might have a bit of a wait as it was busy. However we were soon able to order and we were not disappointed.

Went to the White House on recommendation from hotel we stayed at. We turned up around 18.35, having been advised they stop taking orders approx 18.45. Very good staff, shown to a table very promptly and our drinks and food order was taken promptly too. Very nice and pleasant staff.

A very nice establishment which offers not only excellent quality food but also a pleasant environment with beautiful views over the coast. The staff were very friendly and attentive providing excellent service. When our food arrived we were not disappointed the food was not only well presented but plentiful, well cooked and very tasty. We were also pleasantly surprised by the cost of the meal which was definitely value for money, We would recommend this establishment highly and when next we visit Whitby we will certainly be back.

We were recommended this bar as it was dog friendly, which was good, however.... we were in Whitby for a few days with family and it was my husbands birthday so we decided to go here for a meal. First impressions lovely and reasonably priced, we order 4 roast dinners and within 5 mins 2 of the meals arrived, we waited another, 10, 20 30mins!!!! and eventually our other 2 meals arrived when the first 2 had been finished and within this time we saw the waiters taking roast dinners out to other diners. We were so annoyed, there was no apologies or explanation and within all this time we were being bombarded with flies, they were everywhere and landing on us. I will say the meal was nice but the customer service disgraceful, i don't blame the waiters but the bad management, i will never eat here again.

Called in today for lunch with my work colleague - we both had haddock and chips. I must say that the fish was fried to perfection - it was simply excellently and by far the best fish and chips I have had this year, so much better than the world famous fish and chip restaurant in town. The price was very reasonable too, and as we both chose main courses, it came with a complimentary pot of tea AND a discounted price. Nice pub, nice atmosphere and the bar staff member who served us was very polite and engaging. An excellent customer experience all around - we shall go again soon!

After a very long drive up to Whitby, and on recommendation of this restaurant we decided on a Sunday Roast.

Overpriced pub grub,that's all. Certainly nothing to shout about, one can only think that diners are comparing it to the many fish and chips they have consumed.These are the people that think Macdonalds is actually a restaurant.

Another very civilised lunch drinking in the view up to Sandsend as well as the beer. Being almost the last house in Whitby and adjacent to the golf course, can't see that changing, even if the menu does.

We tend to visit this pub every time we are in Whitby as it is a lovely walk from the town centre. The pub is clean and bright with decent clientele . The outside seating area is lovely with superb views over the coastline. There are a good selection of drinks available at the bar. The food is always good, and you can get two for £20-00 on various selections. The fish and chips are excellent value, accompanied with peas and bread and butter. Well worth a visit............

booked for a meal on our last night of holiday, the food was amazing and the service was great despite the long waits (they were rammed that night) twins enjoyed their meal and ice-cream and the roast of the day was amazing, didn't expect it to be so busy at 6pm but it was heaving and shows just how popular the place is and well deserved too. would definitely recommend

My wife and I called in for an evening meal last week, the first time we had paid a visit for over two years. A lot of impressive refurbishment and redecoration has taken place during that time and we soon made ourselves at home in the cosy bar area. There was a good choice of beers, lagers and ciders on offer, however the prices are more expensive than we are used to paying in our 'local' in Sleights. The menu provides an extensive range of pub favourites with smaller plates for those of us with smaller appetites. My wife chose a burger meal and I opted for a smaller appetite haddock with homemade chips! Our meals were served after only 10 minutes and were FANTASTIC in every way - great presentation, generous portions, excellent quality and truly delicious. We were absolutely delighted and will not be waiting another two years before making our next visit!!

We dined here one evening as it was very close to the guest house where we were staying and found it to be a comfortable restaurant with lovely sea views. The service was good and the food was tasty and nicely presented, although a little on the cold side as the plates had not been heated. We were advised to pre-book a table as, due to it being Goth weekend, they were very busy. We would probably eat here again in the hope that the food may be hotter next time.

Had a decent meal here with family. Food was ok, nothing to get too excited about but was average pub food. Prices a little on the high side and our garlic mushroom starter was hot on one side of the dish but fridge cold on the other side which would suggest it’d been in a microwave.

Whilst the food is good in the restaurant the bar meals are okay. The two for twenty before six is very basic!. The beer is good but the Morietti is expensive. A good pint of theakstones though

Wow, staying here and had a meal here tonight and the food was fantastic. I had cheesy garlic bread and one of the chefs specials bbq chicken fajitas, it was delicious. my husband had tempura prawns and rump steak- he asked for a medium rare steak and it was perfect. I couldn't manage all mine, there was too much for me. husband managed all his, desserts looked lovely too, but I had no space for it.

We have eaten here several times and the food has always been very good. We like the fact that some menu items are also available as small portions. The Theakston's beer is an added bonus!

Had the most amazing fish and chips ever !! It was huge £20 deal for two including hot drink ,bread and butter excellent value , would definitely recommend and the service was very good .

Went there to dinner last weekend after a very long day driving, so very tired and looking forward for a nice meal.

Excellent value for money with more than I could eat. Had the bangers and mash which came with 3 vegetables. The sausages are from local butchers Radfords. Hubby had chicken in tempura batter with egg fried rice and a chilli, coconut and lime sauce and cleaned his plate. Very good value for money at £23.50 for the 2 of us. Staff lovely. Fantastic views across the golf course and out to sea.

Huge haddock & chips for 2 including mushy peas,brown bread, pot of tea at an amazing £20. Try Wednesday's Steak Night (2 Rump for £25 or 2 Rib-Eye £30). Good choice on Menu, smaller portions available for those of us whose appetite has decreased with age. All accompanied by Theakston's real ale. Highly recommended.
