This is a sad review as we learned that the new owners are closing the B and B in August for a indefinite period. We had a great time very welcoming and a great breakfast. Good luck Gerry and Roger.

Went here on recommendation from the guest book at the cottage we were staying in. Booked ahead as suggested. It was such a great meal and the farmer and wife were so friendly and really made the evening. Pauline cooks the food and according to my husband was the best tasting steak he’d had for years. Couldn’t fault anything and came away smiling! If you get the chance go.

Having booked for dinner we had a walk through the fields surrounding the farm beforehand although the public footpath signs were virtually indecipherable. When we returned to the farmhouse we were accosted by the farmer husband of the lady who runs the restaurant/b&b who claimed that we had left a gate open. We are seasoned walkers and are very scrupulous about such things. When we told him that we were having dinner there he mellowed somewhat but our feathers were ruffled slightly. However the restaurant in a high ceilinged barn was very attractively furnished and the meal was very good and well priced. They deserve credit for the commendable effort put into the business.

Have eaten at White Haywood several times over the years and the last two visits in May this year were just as good. The barn where you eat is very old with high roof, stone walls, flag floors and a woodburning stove. Paulin and Phil also run the farm and we enjoy eating their home-reared beef and lamb. Service is friendly and prompt and the food is delicious, especially the steaks and lamb chops. Prices are very reasonable including the drinks. They also have a fish and chip night on Thursday's which you can either eat in or take away. OK so they are located a few miles from the towns but it is worthwhile making the effort to drive from Hay, Peterchurch etc to enjoy a fabulous meal and experience there. We got talking to people who were n the B and B in the barn conversion and they were very complimentary.

Pauline is incredibly friendly and welcoming, food is the best I've had for a long time - I had their beef pie (homemade with their own home produced meat) and it was so good, full of flavour, rich and none of that fatty meat you can get in some pies, homemade chips on the side (AMAZING!) and veg, so fresh! Whilst staying at Dukes Farm nearby, the whole family (12 plus baby) booked into White Haywood Farm for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food, and flavour, was great and suited adults and children alike, everything was laid back in a good way and reasonably priced. Such a good time was had by all, we all went back the next day, a Thursday, for a take-away, which you are able to eat on the premises. Equally good food and service. Craswall can seem a bit cut-off, but it is well worth the journey for the food, scenery and friendliness. And if staying at Dukes Farm, it is an uphill walk back and so you are able to burn off the calories you have over-indulged in - a win-win situation!! Three valleys run north-south along the Wales-England border at the edge of the Black Mountains. Craswell is in the centre of the most westerly. As the sun sets, the approach to the village, over the three ridges between the valleys that lie on your route from Vowchurch on the B4348, Hay to Monmouth road, is beautiful. The village is little more than a phone box and a post office, where a sign directs you 50 yards to White Haywood Farm. You enter the farm gates along a concreted driveway through the pastures and you scatter rabbits and get disapproving stares from the sheep as you approach the farm buildings, which include a large renovated barn off the main farmhouse: this is the restaurant, one wing of a three-sided courtyard. We mounted the three high steps (I didnt see a wheelchair-accessible entrance), passed by the tables and chairs set outside (too cold that day!), and entered the restaurant. At one end, it is heated by a ferocious wood-burning stove, at the other is a bar. It is an echoey place, in which another noisy party can dominate your own conversation. The restaurant, which has about six tables, perhaps 30 covers, is furnished with commercial chairs and tables and lacks the character that could have augmented the asset of the beams and stonework, and the comfort is average. The walls are decorated with pictures for sale, including lots of landscapes of Scotland (why?) when we visited. The menu changes frequently but the principle is that it is simple, with some starters and perhaps ten main courses, based mainly around the farm's own meat - lamb chops, beef wellington, pork ... with a vegetarian option. The food was by no means elaborate but none the worse for that - it was in fact very good and could scarcely be more locally sourced (except, I suppose, for the cod and chips). A local beer was too fizzy. The dessert menu is also simple with three or four traditional dishes cooked in the kitchen and some ice creams in little pots from a farm down the road. The operation is a two person job, with Pauline doing the greeting and the home-cooking, Philip taking orders and waiting. The two proprietors seems to like having people there and you are made to feel welcome. Prices were good value for the quality.I'd like to go again, enjoy the romantic scenery, work more of the way through the menu and perhaps stay in the B&B accommodation attached.

We have recently held a family gathering at White Haywood Farm Restaurant for 20 adults and 4 children (all aged under 6). We had a thoroughly enjoyable day and much of this was due to the care and good service provided by Phil and Pauline Goodwin. We visited the Farm the day before the event to discuss meal options and seating arrangements and theycould not have been more helpful. On the day itself everything was in place as arranged; pre Sunday lunch drinks were served on the terrace outside the Restaurant- we did not in any way feel pressurised to move inside to start the meal. Tables had been put together to make a extended seating area and our joint 70th birthday cake was placed strategically for all guests to admire. The food was delicious cooked to perfection - traditional Sunday lunch with a range of 3 options for starters and desserts- Roast lamb and Roast beef with a vegetarian option. There was a wide range of vegetables served with the main course. The service was brisk, efficient and friendly and the final cost at £550 was not excessive - especially in view of the large amount of wine consumed. We shall definitely return!

Our family group (six adults, two children and a baby) were staying at a holiday cottage in Craswall and noticed that the farm five minutes down the road did fish and chips on a Thursday night, so we decided to wander down and try them out. Boy, were we glad! The restaurant serves afternoon teas plus a range of other meals, all made from produce from or around the farm. We opted for fish and chips, served in the paper, to eat out or at the tables in the restaurant. They were fantastic - really fresh fish, wonderfully light and crispy batter, chips which were crispy on the outside but light and fluffy on the inside and served with the tastiest home made curry sauce imaginable. All this topped off with excellent service, lovely bottled beer and cider from the bar and soft drinks for the children. There was plenty of space for the little ones to run around, a high chair for the baby, toys for the kiddies to play with while the food was cooked and the meals only took a few minutes to come - prices were really good and children's portions available too.Safe to say there was no trace of any food left at the end of the meal and we will definately be back when we stay in Craswall again.

My partner and i travelled to Hereford to visit friends and i stumbled across Haywood Farm after many hours of searching the internet and ringing around for a one night stay something very hard to find in the area, Pauline was very happy to have us one night though. After a some what worrying journey, driving for about 1 hour down country lanes on the red petrol light, yes entirely our own fault, Pauline was quick to make us feel at home and provided a much needed hot drink and somewhere to relax by the roaring log burning stove before phoning a nearby garage to see if the owner would stay open to late to serve us some petrol. After free wheeling through the valley we arrived on fumes to be greeted by Mr Wildings and his museum style pumps! The food selection on the menu is great, both my boyfriend would have happily had all but one of the dishes which was fish and neither of us eat fish so this is not a reflection on the menu at all. For starters we had black pudding made by a local butcher using the Farm's animals and it was delicious. My boyfriend's main course was home made beef pie, which was filled completely to the top with very tender beef. My main was pork in a creamy sauce with mushrooms and it was excellent. The mains were accompanied by a large selection of fresh vegetables, new potatoes and chips! Both of us were too full for dessert but next time i am in the area i'm calling in for the sticky toffee pudding! For breakfast we had a selection of cereals, toast and a full cooked breakfast, we headed off very full. Many thanks to Pauline for all her hospitality. We would recommend this place for meals alone or for B&B accomodation which is also excellent and a home from home. Kitted out to a very high standard and tastefully decorated in a modern style yet retains the charm of an old barn which orginal features such as large wooden beams running throughout.

We ate here every night of our recent stay at the attached B&B and found the food, service and atmosphere unbeatable value. I had forgotten how good beef, pork, lamb and gammon could taste with a wide variety of fresh (repeat fresh) vegetables. It really is "home cooking" and my only regret is that I struggled to find room for a dessert! Nevertheless, it was I sacrifice I simply had to make!

We booked this reastaurant to celebrate my parents 60th Wedding anniversary - 17 of us in total. Pauline and Philip couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The food was superb! Much of the meat on the menu is sourced from their farm and you can definitely taste the difference! Homemade puddings add to the dining experience. Pauline also does a take away/ eat in Fish and Chip night on Thursdays. These were without doubt the best fish and chips we have had in a long time! Super place!

Such a comfortable, welcoming place to stay for the night. Breakfast was really delicious, the white table cover and beautiful cloth napkins were a lovely touch!

We had no expectations, other than reading the reviews and looking at the website. If you are expecting frills then this is not for you. Set in a barn in a field above Clifford, you eat at one long table. Take your own wine. There is no shortage of food in fact you will roll out of there! Hugh has an eye for putting unexpected flavours together, one of our first courses was duck with a rhubarb sauce which just zinged together. His smoked artichoke hearts were out of this world and his red cabbage, we could not get enough of. One of our party declared the new potatoes with smoked butter the best she had ever eaten. It's not cheap at £75 a head, but the quality and sheer deliciousness of the food, not to mention the quantity make this a really worthwhile experience.

Beautiful setting, great service, amazing food. Just lacked atmosphere as it was quiet and not very busy. Would highly recommend though and would certainly visit again!
