Nicest fish n chips I've had in a while

Came into here last week for the first time. Was 'greeted' by the back of a woman. Introduced myself with a hello, but she didn't turn around. Asked for 2 freshly cooked cod, but was told that 2 ready to go from the heater. I again, asked for freshly cooked, but was again told tgey had just been cooked. I immediately revoked my order, only ordering for my partner. When home, he ate a few chips and a few bites of fish. It was certainly not fresh, as I had guessed. Not sure why this establishment is rated so highly. We would not return.

Now i know why this place has such a high rating, personally id give it 10 ⭐️’s Best fish and chips Ive had in the last few years

Best fish and chips i ever had in England!

Tried Audrey's fish bar for the first time today as just moved to the area. The food is amazing 😍 will definitely be going back there.

Called at 5:10pm to order (Google says shop opens at 5pm) spoke to a very rude man on the phone who refused to take my order told me I should have called earlier. Told me to just arrive and wait in the queue which we did, only then to order our food and be told you have to ring and order for certain types of fish, advised we tried to do this and was shrugged off. Shame as the food was nice but the service is awful.

Everything I like about a proper chippy. Fresh fish and not too expensive. Definitely worth a small detour out from the town centre.

We stumbled upon this place on our way from the 3 counties show. Fabulous, a proper old school fish and chip shop. prices amazing , service so good. They knew all the customers not surprisingly considering how long they have been doing it for. We absolutely loved the experience and would definitely go back if passing and if not we would definitely take a detour.

Best Fish and Chips in Ross on Wye, proper old school wrapped in newspaper, good portions and the chips are tasty rather than the tasteless stodge you gate at some places. I travel further through the town and past 2 other chippys to get Audrey's fish and chips.

After visiting this establishment several times in the past in thought I would finally do a review. The food is really nice and tasty with a good selection on the menu. The staff are very pleasant and friendly. It’s certainly worth a visit if you’re in the Ross on Wye area. They also sell confectionery too. Highly recommended

Quite exceptional fish and chips. The food is always freshly cooked to perfection using the best quality fish and potatoes. My only minor complaint is that the quantity of chips per serving is too large. Thank you Sharon and Graham for great food and a very warm welcome. Easily the best in Ross on Wye and surrounding area.

Outstanding! far and away the best fish and chips in Ross, if not Herefordshire! Chips are crispy and fluffy, batter on the fish perfect and meat tender but not dry. The place feels like stepping back in time. Also very unique in that they also sell fire wood, 2nd hand books along with a selection of sweets. Not just any ordinary fish and ship shop! Service is very friendly.

Pretty poor staff wise. Struggling to count 3 fish and took ages to serve. Don’t even get a fork. Apparently they are extra 5p

A very popular place hence queueing for about an hour to be served. No one minded though and the food was all freshly cooked and served by the husband and wife team who chatted to all the customers.

The food is absolutely delicious, service with a smile, we go in and treat ourselves once a month as it’s the best Chippy in Ross on Wye in our opinion 😊

Absolutely lovely couple. We were on the area and googled for local fish and chip shops.we picked Audrey's because of its star rating. Fish was cooked to order and whe had a lovely conversation whilst it took to cook. The food was absolutely lovely and the curry sauce had a nice little kick to it. Fully recommend a visit.

We went there for our lunch and the people were friendly the food was handsome would highly recommend would got there again (All weather roofing)

Dropped in on the way back from visiting the Forest of Dean area. Lovely cod and chips. Seems very popular with the locals as was a long queue, which is a good sign!

The best cod and chips I've ever had. Chips lovely and crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy inside. Cod was stunning! Lovely friendly staff. Premises superbly clean, tidy and organised! Exemplary Fish and Chip Shop.

What can I say simply the best !

Brilliant fish and chips - a must visit! We've been a couple of times now after moving to the area. The shop itself is fairly small and has a local feel and the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. The fundraising posters speak of owners who care about their community! It feels clean and well looked after and there is not a lot of food held under lamps which is always encouraging. There's been a bit of a wait each time as they are popular and it's just the 2 of them but I'd expect to wait on a Friday/Saturday evening anywhere. We have ordered the plaice, battered sausages and chips. Honestly some of the best we've had. Large portions, not overly greasy just good quality, hearty food cooked perfectly. Genuinely can't fault it. Let them know your order so they can get it in the fryer and minimise the wait. Thank you for providing such a good service to the local community! We will be back...!

Amazing, cooked to perfection. Best fish and chips we have had in years! Batter so crispy and gorgeous chips. Very friendly people and we were complete strangers, just visiting the area. It was cooked fresh and so hot. We had to wait for them to cool, no complaints about that. Highly recommend these fish and chips. Best we’ve had.

We have just had an order for over 40 mixture of fish and chips sausage and chips etc all perfectly cooked good quantities and hot would throughly recommend them Well done audreys chippy

We have had takeaways for many years from Audrey's and every time the quality of the food and the service is exceptional. It is miles ahead of other fish and chip shops within 10 miles. We hope it continues for many more years. Thank you to Sharon and Graeme.

We've been going there for 30 years. I could use words like brilliant, wonderful, fantastic, etc but really their fish and chips are just perfect! Great service, food really hot and crisp. Absolutely Perfect. If you do visit buy one of their 50th Anniversary bags and support a local hospice. 👍👍👍👍👍

My dad has used this place for over 20 years and I must say I saw why food so fresh staff were so lovely they knew my dad well and I didn't even need to ask for his they knew straight away what he wanted great place

Went on Thursday 8-7-21. Worst fish and chips I've ever had in my life. Fish was small and soft. Sausage was limp and soggy. Chips were awful, barely cooked and stuck together. Not sure how they got all these good reviews? Big family? Edit: thanks for your reply but it had nothing to do with vinegar as I don't have it because it makes the chips soggy, I have salt which dries it out. It was simply disgusting and no amount of your technical advice will change that. If we are exchanging technical advice how about you cook your chips at a temp that makes them crispy instead of a boiled greasy mess? Awful, awful, awful... Also you gave my mum indigestion Never again but thanks for your bs.

My partner and I was just discussing what we order just outside the shop not that close by the door . Then suddenly the man inside shouted at us. We were outside , in order not to overcrowd inside the shop we waited outside for the two customer to come out . This is the very reason why we boycott the fish and chip shop in town called Seven Seas ... no manners at all by shouting customers whose doing the right thing in time of pandemic . Social distancing !!!

Did some research on my way down from Shropshire well worthy of a detour. Check the opening times. The couple running the place were brilliant.

For a recommendation all I can say is that we have been eating their fish and chips for many years. It’s so good we dont go anywhere else, if they are not open we go without 😩. For those who love that northern delicacy don’t miss their gravy it’s a real gem

We are new to Ross and were delighted to find Audrey's. An old fashioned chip shop, with fantastic food and spotlessly clean and friendly...great stuff.

On our first trip to the area, we looked up the restaurants reviews and saw that Audrey’s chippy got 5 stars, so we thought we would try it. Brilliant, perfectly battered fish and superb chips- soft in the middle, crisp on the outside and full of flavour. If only one could get fish and chips like this everywhere. Also very reasonably priced.

Always busy but worth queuing for a few minutes as the fish is cooked to perfection with a light crispy batter. The chips actually taste like chips use to do years ago and are not greasy and limp as they are in many places. The service is friendly and with a smile. The prices are very good and less than elsewhere locally but the food and service is superior. Very strongly recommended.

The best fish and chip shop in Ross

There is only one problem with this excellent Fish & Chips shop and that is that there always seems to be a long queue but clearly this is because it is so good. I have called several times for either cod or haddock and always it has been as good as the country's best. Staff will remember me because I always ask them to keep my place while I wait outside salivating with Lucy the dog!
