The food and service were very good. The curries were fresh, subtly spiced and well presented. Good naans too! A very reasonable £72 for 4, which included 2 large Kingfishers.

Very disappointed. One person taking orders and serving, also taking orders for takeout and telephone orders. So a slow start.

We arrived at the well situated pub/ lounge at the edge of delightful symonds yat. Greeted by the new manager who took orders with no fuss. My wife and I had Captain Gulam and Chicken Biryani respectively and they were about the best indian meals we've ever had, and we've had many! If I could describe the intensity of Captain Gulam. Not your simple flavour, but with a authentic satisfying deep complex taste If i can say yummy was invented for their Biryani- it was superb and really the food made us happy and it made the conversation ...happier. A really good night in the quiestest of pubs in the best of locations.

Had both starters and mains and all the food was excellent., reasonably priced Definitely would go again.

We dine here regularly and can take our dogs into the bar area too. The curries are the best. We've tried many of the vast range of dishes and have never disappointed. Highly recommended. Thank you Gulam

Ordered a ‘Crown special’ £11.95, which was not remotely special, completely over salted and with deep red food colouring. I had to add some fresh tomato and yogurt and it was still way too salty. Veg side order was also over salted, defrosted style small cubed veg with some cabbage thrown in. Both dishes were not totally fresh ingredients at all, maybe explains their 4 star hygiene rating.

Staying just up the road we called in here on the basis of all the great things written about the place in our cottage guest book. Food was fresh and generous in portion size. Staff were very friendly and attentive. We can see why people from the local caravan and campsite flock here. Excellent food and service

Always amazing which we love to eat after a few hours walking in the areas. A place we can take our dogs too. Lots of traditional and chef specials options and all dishes are wonderful. Very friendly staff and great service.

Visited the restaurant during a week away, early on a Wednesday evening but was great to see it popular with locals. Friendly service and food was definitely tasty - the Shahi Murghi being a particular highlight.

We had a take away from here that was one of the best we have had anywhere. The order was ready within forty minutes of us placing a phone order and was ready within minutes of us arriving at the restaurant. The food was piping hot and the portion sizes were generous. Our only difficulty was in choosing from the extensive on line menu! Spoilt for choice. We will definitely go again and we may well book a table next time so that we can have a drink in the bar.

We have been waiting an hour and quarter for our food for takeaway. Ten people waiting for their food as part of our group. People who arrived the same time as us have been and left. Fourth minutes in we were told one of the dishes is not available. Shocking service.

Great food, I had the Nawa with chicken tikka. The place was nice and busy and the service was still very good. A very fair price and nice cold Indian lager.

Arrived (not booked) at 5:19pm. Asked for a table of 4. There were no people in the restaurant so we were seated. 3 other tables arrived which was 2x 2s and 1x9 people. The atmosphere was very strange. No background music and a very loud telephone ringing. Had our drinks order taken by a waitress and looked at the menu. From then on it was HORRENDOUS! We had popadoms delivered several times to keep us quiet. After 90minutes (now 6:50pm we asked where the starters were. 2 of us are pregnant and really needed to eat given how long we had been there. I asked the young waiter was there any chance of starters after the length of time. They said ‘I know. The couple next to you haven’t even had their order taken because the boss said they were not allowed because they were so busy (Saturday night- 4 tables and some takeaways) After some singing with another table to pass the time and bring the atmosphere up we decided that we had to eat as the pregnant people were really starting to flag. We told them we were leaving. Put £25 on the table for 4 beers and tap water and walked out as they were bringing over 2 starters. It was almost 7pm at this point. The manager said he was really busy and had a bit of an attitude really, like we should of been expected to wait that long. No one in the restaurant had any food at this point. Just a lot of drinks- great business idea. The couple next to us were staying the night. Good job really because if they put their order for breakfast in before they go to bed they might get something to eat eventually. Worst managed establishment I have ever encountered. Poor young staff. It was a Saturday night and the manager simply wasn’t equipped or organised enough to run a restaurant.

Had a take away and a sit in within a weeks stay at a nearby campsite 👍 Food is absolutely superb - best Indian food we’ve had in a while . Staff are lovely - service might be slow if they are busy and time to relax between courses ....but well worth the wait when the food arrives - well done everyone 👍👍✅ 11/10 Andy & Gill Wiltshire

Stayed in a local campsite. 15 mins walk from this place. Can not recommend this place higher. It's an easily missed location so seek it out. Well worth it. Top food. Great service.

We asked Whitchurch Spice to cater for 55 people staying at a local campsite. They provided table linens, cutlery and crockery. We had a choice of 3 different breads, 2 kinds of rice, a lamb dish, two chicken dishes and a pot of vegetable curry was provided “gratis” ( the veg. Dish was really lovely). Additionally, poppadums with salad, pickles & sauces for starters. The food was excellent, the rice was perfectly cooked, the chicken tikka masalla was really delicious, the lamb was perfectly cooked, the jalfrezi & dopiaza dishes were spiced perfectly. The service was terrific, friendly & efficient & all cleared away discreetly. Everyone enjoyed their Sunday night curry dinner, thank you Whitchurch Spice - we were very impressed indeed.

The Whitchurch Spice Tandoori is located inside the Crown at Whitchurch. We decided to 'eat in' on our first night staying at the Crown. The service was friendly throughout, though slightly disjointed. We started with Popadums and the pickle tray and while the pops were fine the pickle tray was ok and I have to say the bright red dip that had replaced the normal mango chutney wasn't great and neither was the bright green dip that I think was Raitha (though not as I know it). To drink, we had a couple of pints of Cobra from the bar, (we did ask about wine but this was from the bar stock and what was available wasn't great), and this is one of the slight dis-joints as it was billed to the bar and not the restaurant though you paid together. We followed with Onion Bhaji which were very good and Meat Samosa but we felt that it tasted synthetic, in hindsight we should probably have had the more traditional vegetable version. For our main course the Mrs had Chicken Khorma and plain rice which was good and I had the Lamb Biryani which was also good but the show was stolen by the medium vegetable curry which was excellent and, just possibly, the best I've had! We accompanied that with plain Naan which was also good. For those mixed group occasions, when not everyone likes Indian food, the restaurant also does a limited English menu, including rump and sirloin steak. Unfortunately it wasn't busy so there was very little atmosphere but it was nicely decorated and there seemed to be a very steady trade for takeaway which is always a good marker. At £50 for the two of us (£42 for the food and £8 for the 2 x Cobra) we felt it was reasonable value. Overall, good but not great, though I would have no hesitation of eating there again.

We regularly have a takeaway from here and have always had an enjoyable meal. Chicken Rogan, Biryiani, Dupiaza, Tikka and Korma all great. Vegetable rice is very good too. Lovely starters and we recommend the saag aloo side dish.

We had the most fabulous meal last night at this tandoori. We are spoilt at home for award winning curry houses but the meal here blew us away. The staff were friendly and couldn't have done more.

So late Thursday afternoon we decide to try this curry house. Turn up at about 6 to find the place empty, all I can say is why?

I will try and keep this review balanced as there are some good and not so good things.

It is now part of a pub but still very good food, you can also enjoy a drink in the bar whilst waiting for a take away. Staff very friendly.

Had the fixed price offer - £20 for starter, main, side, bhaji , rice and desert. Good tasting food, freshly cooked and friendly service. Ideally located for passing trade, just off A40. Would use again.

We have recently eaten in the Restaurant and had a Takeaway meal and can thoroughly recommend the food. Not being great connoisseurs of Indian Cuisine , it was difficult for us to compare, but our children and grandchildren tell us it is among the very best of Indian food they have ever eaten and believe me, they have eaten all over the world!

We came across this restaurant by chance one evening and then visited three times during our week holiday in this area. The menu satisfied the tastes of all in our party and the quality didn’t disappoint.

We booked a weekend away this beautiful summer and managed to choose the one where it rained and rained and rained. All was not lost however. Staff in the bar were friendly and helpful but the real pleasure was the Indian restaurant attached. My vegan partner had vegetable Binary, which was one of the best he ever had (and he's an old man!) I had the sunset chicken (recommended by the bar staff) which was absolutely delicious. Great service too. Recommended.

Walked in as I heard loads of great comments - was asked what time I wanted my take away as it’s all cooked to order! - 35 minutes later I took deliver of the best Indian I have had in my 4 years of living in Herefordshire - great services and the food was stunning - keep it up guys
