Stumbled across the mission cafe by chance after clambering & climbing steps & steep hills! We were in dire need of a drink & something to eat & this place was a lovely little find. It's not Nouveau Cuisine but it's hearty tasty homemade food at a reasonable price. Good range of homemade cakes too. Well worth a visit!

This place is a MUST visit if you’re in Whitby. We pre booked through recommendation which we’re glad we did although there wasn’t much of a queue on a Tuesday afternoon. The food was delicious! We both had a regular fish a chips which is a great portion and the fish was so tasty and not greasy which is a bonus! We will deffo return when we’re next in Whitby

Stopped her my husband got us a cup of tea and we sat outside with our baby and 2 year old toddler. She asked to go to the toilet so I nipped in to check they had one, then went back in to get her and I carried her in and was stopped and asked very curtly “can I help you” I explained I was sitting outside and my daughter needed the toilet. I was given a dirty look but ignored it. When I went to the toilet I opened the door and some kind of am dram looked like it was going on, I quickly asked if this was the way to the toilet and was told again with an attitude yes but “she” needs to be quiet. Horrible experience and I wouldn’t have been as upset about it if it wasn’t all said with attitude and dirty looks. This was a busy sunny Sunday lots of people and children about. Avoid in the future.

My family of 4 were hangrily stumbling around Whitby looking for somewhere to eat when we came across the The Whitby Mission & Seafarers Centre and we were not disappointed! The bacon was cooked to perfection, the home cooked cakes were absolutely divine and the portion sizes were just right. Great Cause, Great Value, Great Staff and Great Food! Definitely worth a visit if you are in Whitby.

What a lovely find. We were looking for a cafe where we could get a sandwich and a cup of tea for a brunch. After passing loads of restaurants walking down from West Cliff we found Whitby Mission. We had a bacon sandwich and a bacon and egg sandwich with tea for two. They were delicious and the bacon was the real thing. Lovely staff and fabulous value for money. A great alternative to fish and chips. Recommended.

The staff at whitby mission are a complete disgrace. As a lady with health conditions who struggles to walk. I sat outside whitby mission on the steps just to catch my breath and give my little dog a drink of water. I had only been their a matter of seconds when a male member of staff started shouting at me I had to move. I explained I was only going to be there for a moment but he became very aggressive telling me I had to move now and didn't care less if my dog collapsed from thirst. Their was nobody their that I was bothering no queuing in fact their was nobody around at all. As I walked away he was still being verbally abusive and stormed back inside the building.

Great value overall whether breakfast or lunch and the coffee does taste really nice! I reviewed this café favorably last year too and was quite positive about the overall customer experience tho I must say that the only one negative is that some of the staff are much friendlier than others, a point we also noticed last year. This does not alter the fact tho that the cost and general offerings the Mission can provide are good, so please try it out next time you are visiting this lovely seaside town.

We always drop into the Mission Café when visiting Whitby. It's very spacious and not on the water front so it's usually easy enough to find a suitable table straight away and we never feel pressured to vacate for other customers like elsewhere. On this visit we took our young grandson. We did lift his pushchair up the three or four steps at the entrance which was no problem for us (unsure whether they have a better entrance for mobility scooters etc) but once inside no shortage of space to park it up whilst we enjoyed a lunch time meal. The menu contained all the usual café offerings and our order was served with generous enough portions at very reasonable prices. My wife really enjoyed her lasagne with coffee. To be really critical I would have preferred a better tea with mine but it won't stop us calling in again the next time we visit here.

We happened to pass as we were looking for somewhere to have a hot drink and light snack. We had already been into a nearby cafe and walked out as it was so busy and smelt strongly of fish and chips! This little cafe is a gem with very friendly staff, comfortable seating and a peaceful atmosphere! It is also such good value with a coffee, hot chocolate and cheese scone with butter for about £3.50. We enjoyed the quaintness of the old pictures and model ships on display (it is the seaman’s mission after all). The lady behind the counter was busy knitting poppies to sell for Remembrance Day. She was telling another couple about how the locals had all clubbed together to knit the thousands of poppies streaming down from the church tower which we had visited and admired earlier in the day. We were extremely pleased that we called in here.

Though it was mid-afternoon, we were looking to get a light lunch before some final browsing around the shops and our drive home. We prefer to support smaller businesses/organisations where possible so decided to pop in here. Myself and my Mum each had a cheese and onion toastie - they were brimming with cheese, no shortage of filling and had a small salad on the side. Our friend had lasagne with salad, again, this was well presented with plenty of salad and a piece of garlic bread. We each had tea (which arrived perfect and ready to pour), a pot of boiling water and enough milk for all. Overall, we were very happy with our visit and would be willing to call again.

We visited this cafe on Sunday 19 November and whilst the coffee and mince pie were good the lady serving was really rude. I asked her if she could make a very weak coffee by putting half a spoonful of coffee in my cup and she abruptly said "no, it comes out of a machine". It was only when I said cancel the order she then suggested that she make a the coffee as a cup size and then put it in a mug and top it up with water, I agreed albeit reluctantly. Then when I was putting my purse away a lady behind me ordered two £3.90 breakfasts but asked if she could replace the sausage on one with beans and the lady serving her said, once again very rudely "what in a bun". Her attitude left a lot to be desired and we shall not be visiting again. She had blond hair and seemed only to want to talk to other members of staff and was not behind the counter when we arrived although another lady said "she won't be long" but why she couldn't serve me I don't know.

we were getting disheartened wandering around Whitby trying to find somewhere for a sandwich, every place was crowded and very expensive. We came across this cafe and were pleasantly surprised, had a sausage and egg butty and a hot drink for a reasonable price, was just what we wanted. The food was good. It was nice and quiet and staff were friendly. The only thing I didn't like is that they have a sign telling you where to find the toilet and saying that there is a charity box on the counter. As a paying customer, I don't expect to feel obliged to donate, for using the toilet . But you can choose to ignore the box.

We went away as a family to celebrate my son in laws 30th birthday and my son's 18th. After deciding to go into Whitby for the day we came across this place and decided to have a drink as it was in the shade and as it was a mission we decided we would help contribute to the area. All the lads sat outside while my sister my daughter and I went in to get the drinks. The owner ( unknown to us inside) went out screaming to the lads that they were not allowed to eat their own food whilst chucking the seats around, my brother in law said calm down this is fine we will move he continued to scream at them all and told then they were not welcome and to get out. He then came into the café and asked who had ordered a tea as he did not want it anymore confused by this I asked what he meant and he started shouting at us swearing at us to get out he is the owner and he didn't want us there!! I tried to talk to him and asked him to calm down but he was having none of it. A woman came out from the back and shouted to my 8 month pregnant daughter " you fat cow" stunned I told her she was disgusting and the fat that she is 8 months pregnant was even worse, how dare she even come out with that sort of thing to anyone! The owner then swore at us again and to get out again. A young lad who had been stood outside and witnessed all this came into the café and expressed his disgust at the way he had spoken to us all and he was told to " go look in a mirror" Another gentleman approached us after and said after 40 years of going in there he had never witnessed anything like it and apologised to us!!! Never ever have I ever experienced this sort of behaviour and will never be going there again! disgusting is an understatement!!

Having stopped to sit outside the Whitby Mission Cafe we were accosted by an employee who very aggressively told us we could not eat our own food at the tables, and we were to leave immediately, when we explained our wives were inside ordering drinks and refreshments he told us it didn't matter and we had to leave, at which point he proceeded inside and argued with our wives telling them to leave, the final straw was when they called my 8 months pregnant daughter a "fat cow". I would strongly recommend that the employee goes on a customer service course, I have never been so insulted by an establishment in my life.

We were on a day trip with a coach, whilst staying at Scarborough when it started to rain very heavily, we just happened to drop on this cafe, which any profits made supported the seamen, so we went in for some very tasty hot soup and a roll and also a coffee, we were served by a very pleasant couple who told us that it supported the seamens mission and there is also a church attached at the side, we were pleasantly surprised with the selection of food on offer, I will definately call here again, a very good find for an excellent meal. As we were leaving there were some people outside that were looking at the boards, so we told them that they would get a very good meal and a drink inside, so they went in.

Whitby is well known for Dracula, Captain Cook and fish and chips. If you want the latter there is no shortage of fish and chip shops claiming to be the best in Whitby and no shortage of queues either and the struggle to find somewhere to sit and eat them in comfort. On the other hand, if you’re ready for something different on a busy day in Whitby and what you really want is a break from the crowds while you have a light snack or lunch then you could try something different as we did.

We had the unfortunate "luck" of spending a night at this place. Got a "suite" under the creaky flooring of the pub with noise-channelling ventilation ducts overhead, a substandard kitchen with no cupboards and wobbly table, a toilet with no ventilation, exposed pipes and disjointed faucet and a door with no handle in sight... All this came with a delayed check-in and service that leaves much to hope for. While the rooms above the pub may make for a better night's sleep, there is little hope that could improve this establishment's culture of hospitality.

What’s really interesting about this cafe is that it’s part of the now closed second funicular tram at the top. Loved the Yorkshire owner of the cafe ☕️. Great bacon rolls before we checked into The Grand next door 🚪 (which we liked ❤️ too)
