We've just had a 2 day stay in Whitby and earmarked around £60 worth of products from this lovely little place. Rather than have to carry them around for the day, our intent was to purchase on the way back to the guest house. Unfortunately, they appear to close at 4.00pm, which in this climate of businesses needing to maximise post-Covid revenue, I find absolutely staggering. Maybe they don't need the sales. Frustrating and disappointing in equal measure. Would have been 5 stars otherwise.

Called in to look at some of the interesting food available and noticed on the deli counter that they do sharing platters. My wife and I ordered one to be picked up later in the day, we were asked if there was anything we particularly liked or disliked and arranged to pick up at a convenient time. On the face of it the cost may seem a little high but those thoughts disappeared when we saw what was in the box and completely left our heads when we started eating the food. A card was included detailing the contents which listed the 20 different items the box contained and after us each having three visits to the platter we were full and decided to carry on the following evening..The quality of the food was magnificent and superbly presented. We have now reached the second evening and will shortly be starting on the platter again.

We stumbled upon this great deli whilst out walking and decided that having a pizza was safer than eating in some of Whitbys other establishments!!This was one of the best pizzas we have had, made as we had ordered one meat and one vegetarian.... the frittata was also excellent... so we have a great meal in the comfort of our self catering accommodation with great food!! Thank you and I would encourage you to advertise this great option for others

We had been meaning to visit here for a while as we are local and like to help local businesses. Unfortunately it wasn't a good experience. The waitress brought us two menus which one was disgustingly dirty smeared with food so I gave her it back. I ordered from the specials board a mozzarella, salami and sundried tomato melt and my husband had avocado with bacon and poached egg. We had to wait ages and they weren't particularly busy either (would hate to see how long a wait when they are busy!). When the food eventually came mine came with a side salad and so I asked for some mayonnaise or dressing to which the waitress said "We just have red or brown sauce". So my salad was dry and boring, my melt wasn't melted and was just thrown together. My husband said his was absolutely tasteless and the poached egg was the palest yellow you'd every seen - definately not free range. The only positive thing to say was that the coffee was nice. There are certainly nicer places to eat in Whitby which is a shame. We wont be going again.

This was a great find to come across by accident. We just wanted something to warm us up on a cold and windy day and they had an excellent lunch deal for £5. I had the soup (tomato and bais) and a huge cuppa tea made from leaves, and my husband had a freshly hand made sausage roll with spicy tomato and onion chutney and a coffee...all for just £10. The food was plentiful, great flavour and great value. My husband loved the chutney so much he bought a jar.

...had I noticed the sign on the door of this deli on the way in (obscured by a group of people leaving) I would not have gone in to what looked like my kind of place. I had avocado with poached eggs on toast and a very nice pot of tea. However, a party arrived just after I’d ordered, including a dog; shortly afterwards another one arrived. On checking the law, I see that dogs are not forbidden in restaurants but they are not to be in food preparation areas. To access the cafe, you have to walk through the deli - where food is prepared and even openly displayed on a fairly low table in the centre of the shop - but I suppose it depends on how you define “food preparation area.” The people with the dog handled the dog then handled the condiment containers. None of them washed their hands before eating. Given I cannot be certain that particular hygiene controls are in place, I won’t be back.

I did wonder last week if Catherine Cook was related to Captain James Cook. He's from Marton-in-Cleveland, she similarly hails from Teesside. James was an intrepid explorer and, three years ago, Catherine left the security of barristers' chambers in London to head north and open a deli in Whitby. We pretty much loved every inch of this place, ate here a couple of times and shopped for freshly baked pork pies and specialist jellies, supplied by Ryan Tindall of Just Jelly. His mint infused number certainly lifted Mam's lamb casserole the other day.Book now for their delightful pizza night on Saturday. Ask nicely and Catherine might let you sit at our favourite table. It's well worth the hike up Flowergate, if you're down by the harbour.

My girlfriend and I visited here twice during our stay in Whitby, mostly for breakfast/brunch.Initially on my first visit I found the place to be just a cosy little cafe/shop with a delightful selection of biscuits, cakes and cheeses. Once we sat down I just ordered what I thought was an ordinary sausage sandwich. Looking at the price of the sarnie, coming in at £4.50 I thought to myself "that's pretty expensive for a simple sausage sandwich"...that was until I saw it.This sandwich was FREAKIN' HUGE! MASSIVE! The sausage looked the size of a motorcycle tyre! It's tasted absolutely great too and I didn't need to eat until the evening, which was just what I needed. For £4.50 you practically get a meal in a bun that kicks the backside of any burger, so any of you readers thinking "Oh, I could just murder a burger right now" in Whitby why don't you change your mind and visit the Whitby Deli instead. If I was in power I'd make it law for everyone in the UK to visit this place at least once every year.So why does it score four instead of five? Well, compared to a couple of the restaurants in the area it would be unfair to say this was better but as early morning/midday meals this is one of the greatest in the North of England so wherever you are, whatever you are doing, put it down and go there right now.

We were disappointed overall, just wanted a light lunch of soup and bread. No info what the soup actually was, it had bits in a bit like fine fish bones, and in the end really didn't like it very much. Bought some things in the deli shop, but found them very expensive. The apple juice drink I had was very nice.

This was our second visit to Whitby deli and the food and service is every bit as good as a year ago when we last visited. We had already had some lunch elsewhere nearby but wanted to round it off with some cheese and wine in a relaxing atmosphere and we knew this place would be perfect. A cheese board wasn't on the blackboard menu but the girl helpfully made one up for us from the deli counter based on our preferences. Nothing was too much trouble and we spent a very pleasant hour just watching the world go by, eating cheese and drinking very nice wine.

Visited once for hot drinks and once for lunch. Drinks were lovely and when eating we both had a ploughmans which was delicious and filling. Bought some goods to go when we left too. Careful that you dont leave it too late as they stop serving hot food from about 3pm i believe.

The deli has a friendly and casual atmosphere. Service was quick and food was delicious and tasty. We were looking for something fresh and vegan/vegetarian and the deli did not disappoint. I chose a meal with avocado and when the kitchen said they were out of avocados the waitress asked what type of thing I fancied and they made me a lovely greek style lunch with plenty of fresh green salad. OH had haloumi with mixed salad and Mum really enjoyed the fresh pea and mint ravioli. The coffee and tea were also excellent. Non veggie people are also well catered for, with all usual deli treats. So there is something healthy and filling for every one. Cost was under £10 each for lunch and a hot drink.

Came across the Whitby Deli whilst looking for a meal in Whitby that didn't involve seafood! The menu was basic, but the vibe and food were good. An extremely pleasant way to spend an hour or so.
