Great pint of White Rat beer. Very friendly staff. Enjoyed our Sunday dinnertime drinks.

My wife and I were having a lovely time in Whitby but entering the Star the landlady was very unfriendly on ordering our drinks, we gave our seats up to an elderly three and got a stool for the gentleman which the landlady promptly swapped for a smaller one so he was much lower than the rest of his group, but it was the right colour!the landlady stated, remember don’t move the seats to sit near your friends as it will be moved back, very controlling landlady and landlord, not surprised the other staff looked very unhappy and disinterested, horrible atmosphere just look at the signs on the toilet doors!

Cracking pint of Ossett white rat, kept beautifully. Thursday club, free juke box and free pool. What more can you want.

We had a really good drink in here, chatting with locals and the barman was really just a nice guy! A decent pint on draught, with a good atmosphere. Helpful and friendly, the barman helped us with our next destination and had a good laugh with the very drunk Scotsman at the bar… a good experience!!

Called in at 10.45pm on a Saturday night to a welcome of we are closing in a bit. Asked for spirits but limited choice. No ice available and pub not the cleanest. Poor atmosphere and felt they just wanted us out. Zero stars for the Star Inn.

They don't serve food but your standard pub, decent music, rock so I survived. 🤣

Walked in whilst visiting whitby for the day , found a table for me my husband and dog, when I walked up to the bar the staff member already had a fresh bowl of water and a couple of treats for our dog, such a lovely touch, and really appreciated it. Recommended this place for its friendliness

Brilliantly welcoming little pub. Guinness is good and staff are friendly. Pool table, juke box and darts were all free too which was a bonus. We met so.e great characters in here!

Dead as a doornail, we were the only customers in but saying that it was a Tuesday evening after goth weekend. The young bar lad was very friendly

we were misled by the tourism website which said this pub serves food, which it doesnt, but the welcome is lovely and the landlady has a plentiful supply of dog bowls and treats. when we asked about food we were obviously told no but also that we could bring a takeaway in but nit chips due to the smell, but was recommended the hot pork sandwich shop round the corner, the best pork sandwiches ever, unfortunately cant remember its name to do a review but go and find it!!

Good traditional pub, been in a few times now over the years, like the pool table, bit erratic some times it's empty and some times it's heaving, more so the themed weekends, just back to the old pricing issue, don't no what the answer is, just a third more expensive than witherspoon or the fisherman's Arms, glad I,m not in the pub trade.

We was made to feel very welcome in here. There were plenty of gins to choose from and this pub also had a pool table which my son enjoyed playing

Bit of a locals pub, but good atmosphere. Managed to get a seat (7 people), decent background music, though not too loud, so you could have a chat.

Really needs a revamp , old pub , music so loud it was distracting even though only 3 couples including us was in the bar. Faint small of wee.. decided to only have a short and picked baileys which had a lump of brown in it.. I assumed it was baileys .. gunk . Picked it out We drunk up and left .. I really like traditional pub .. but this one needs a bit of attention. Staff seemed pleasant. Could be great .

We called in to listen to a folk group and we’re sat by a local “character” and his bunch of cohorts. Very pleasant at first, but that soon descended into a drunken verbal free for all between themselves. So loud that the band stopped playing. Threats of physical assault to each other made us very nervous and we moved. After a few minutes, it calmed down until the most verbal decided to start again, more local drunks of both sexes sparred verbally until given a Luke warn “warning” by the barmaid. This had no effect and off we went on round three. Appalling language from them all. The lead drunk pointed my wife out as the cause of the argument, and the barmaid issued her with a warning rather than lose the custom of her regulars. I didn’t hear that until my wife told me later on our way home, or I would have had words with the barmaid. They were still throwing insults when we left after two pints. A good night soured by a Gang of drunks who should have been refused service hours earlier. The beer was good, and the food s apparently excellent, but we could only comment on the former as we felt unsafe staying any longer.

Would have given 5 stars if it wasnt for the drunks in the corner who drowned out the live music with their arguing. Met some nice people in there who apologised for the other l( unbooked) ive act. Woukd have stayed but for the fear it might all kick off and we were next to them.

Lovely little oldy worldy little gem of a pub. Lovely couple that run it.... fairly prices drinks, cheap juke box and a game of pool for the bargain price of twenty pence..Happy days!!!

Had a couple of drinks in this pub today & very impressed. Clean everywhere & the manager & manageress were both friendly & had time for a chat. Also, great music being played. Look forward to returning 👍🍺🍷

Very nice pub , very clean and tidy , in a great location and has a small area outside the front to sit , the staff were friendly and the beer was very good .

this is a pub used by locals and is just your average pub but as it is next door to the cottage we stay in we usually call in for a drink while we are there

This pub speaks for itself when you walk in to it. It is soulless. Cold not welcoming at all. Few locals in. All of the other pubs in whitby are full and have a great atmosphere. Also the music is far too loud. Not working at all.

Warm welcome,good beer at good prices

Visited here during Whitby's 2018 Folk Week and was pleasantly surprised. Unassuming outside, inside this is what my Mum refers to as a "proper pub". Comfy seats, cheap drinks and a brilliant jukebox, the icing on the cake was how quiet it was when we visited compared to the bedlam of the rest of the town. Recommended!

this pub is next door to our holiday cottage so is our 'local' when staying there. It is not posh but has friendly staff and free wi fi plus some nights they play a variety of rock music. If you are looking for airs and graces this is not the pub for you but if you like good music and a friendly atmosphere give this place a go
