Ruswarp Riverside Cafe in Scarborough

Got there and was closed despite local attraction leaflets saying its open neither was the small train. Travelled from hull for this having been previously a year ago Looks like not opening any time soon

Fell on our feet finding this place, lovely place to have a cup of tea,a beer and some food,right next to the river

Popped in for a brew and a slice of carrot cake and the cake was fantastic. A nice pleasant spot to rest after a ride.

The food is fantastic quality. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The surroundings are beautiful.

Pretty views along the river Esk. Delicious bacon sandwiches. Yummy lemon drizzle cake a fruit sconed

Lovely place but my only criticism is I wish people would not feed the ducks and geese at their tables. It encourages them to come nearer and nearer which in turn gets the dogs agitated and not all us humans like them being so close. For this reason I think I would hesitate going .

Lovely relaxing place ideal usually call in for coffee or cold drink. Plenty of seats.

We decided to pop in after seeing some signs and what a lovely place! The carrot cake was amazing and so was the coffee. My OH enjoyed his scone with jam and cream too and I got my toe nibbles by a duck! A lovely place to sit and enjoy the weather and atmosphere

Lovely coffee (one of the best in england so far) and delicious scones down by the river. Was a beautiful setting in the sun and could feed the ducks and watch the people rowing boats

Negatives. Sandwiches £9.50. Very little choice. Only had the option of prawn,crab or sausage. Not even ham on the menu. Took quite some time for our drinks to arrive. I wouldn’t say the sandwich was worth the money at all. Also the wait to be served was a long time. They need more staff. In comparison for the area and price I would have expected more. Positives. The location is lovely and nice to be able to feed the ducks.

As ever the cafe was really busy and food was delicious even fed the ducks, the odd Swan, and also the geese

Just stopped off for a rest and something to eat while on a walk. I am very glad I did beautiful views while enjoying something to eat and drink.

After a long day out with family we decided to visit Ruswarp Riverside Cafe for some refreshments, we sat in the beautiful outdoor seating area right next to the river which my wife and I enjoyed a freezing cold beverage and ice cream with my children. The staff were super kind and very friendly and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience, we will be definitely visiting again!

Great place to relax and enjoy an afternoon tea by the water. Egg salad and BLT sandwiches were delicious, delicious scone, cake, and brownie with proper clotted cream. Sooooo good and highly recommend if you want a break from the hustle and bustle of Whitby town centre.

Decent, good grub. A lovely setting both inside and out. There's ducks, swans and geese outside that aren't quite cheeky enough to steal your lunch. Especially as there's duck food for sale. Nice to sit and watch the boats, canoes and steam train go by!

Excellent homemade quiche salad for lunch. Large portions. Dog friendly garden. Friendly staff. Will definitely be back.

Was called an idiot by management after poor service. Edit - I don't know what your definition of bullying is, but I don't believe that having a complaint about the way we were spoken to by multiple members of staff and wishing to speak to management counts. Sad that the people who were yelled at by management were vulnerable with disabilities. Not all disabilities are visible, hence the lanyards, and the management are clearly not disability friendly. Disappointed that you think I would encourage other people to review bomb your establishment. Will not be wasting my time here again.

Awful staff, rudest people, ignored our reasonable requests made for our own safety. Barred for life when we tried to raise the issue; no freedom of speech, shouting us out. STAY AWAY!

Just watched management berate a customer who had a complaint before calling him an idiot. A terrible way to run a business. I won't be coming here again.

It is a very pleasing and beautiful café. It is a nice place to spend time with your family. However, the owners are often very rude to the customers, with the exception of the 'lower ranking' staff members who are of student age. It has the opportunity to be a perfect café though. It is also exceedingly expensive.

A very attractive location by the River Esk in the village of Ruswsrp. There is both internal and external seating available and the internal is both attractive and well laid out. A wide range of snacks, meals, beverages and alcoholic drinks are available, and service is suitably prompt. Somewhat oddly, even though am internal counter exists, it is necessary to order food / drinks 'outside' from the catering van which, for all intensive purposes, acts as a take-away facility? Despite this, staff are friendly, polite and helpful and the venue is still worth a visit.

Quick service, with a wonderful view. We went rowing along the river and decided to come here for lunch afterwards! The food was fresh and warm, with great portion sizes. I will definitely return in future

Located along the riverside this cafe provides both a large outdoor seating area on the grass and inside seating too. The cafe sells duck food that can be thrown into the river for children to enjoy. The cafe also allows for older generations to watch as their family members ride past on kayaks and rowing boats enjoying a lovely coffee or tea The only downside I found is limited parking spaces close to the cafe but parking can be located at the miniature train station located within 100m of the cafe with a path around it it

Nice place to unwind and watch boats on the river passing, super milkshakes, and nice staff. I had a bacon and egg sarnie, which is one of the best i have had for a while

This place is not wheelchair friendly. There’s no quick access from garden to cafe for toilets because it’s blocked off. Lots of grass and gravel too. Also ordered pots of tea, very basic order but they forgot to bring us milk of all things.

I love this cafe. Such a lovely place. My son loves to feed the ducks.

What a great find this was for lunch. Right by the river. Not much parking there but will be going again. Order and pay at the old van (French ?) with your table number and so comes with table service. Beautifully clean toilets inside the cafe too. Well done to the proprietors. Could do with asking for a jug of hot water when ordering the tea.

Recently visited this lovely cafe in a beautiful setting. The food was second to none, service was excellent and would highly recommend to anyone! We will most definitely be back!

Been visiting this cafe for years during the summer and it never disappoints. Lovely fresh cake and coffee in a beautiful riverside setting on a summer's day.

What can I say about our vist. Firstly the surroundings are beautiful. The staff are first class nothing is to much trouble for them and are well mannered and friendly. On to the food We had a afternoon tea.The sandwiches was so nice and full of fillings.The homemade cakes was delicious.The coffee just finished it off. A perfect afternoon was had by all. As the saying goes you get what you pay for.I don't believe any the prices to be overpriced. We will certainly be returning for a longer stay at the beautiful cottages on site very soon.

Came here for a quick drink whilst passing on our bikes. I joined the queue to order our drinks. After waiting 10 mins till we got served because the young lad who was serving had literally no clue whatsoever of what he was doing. He clearly didn’t know how to search for items on his pad/till and really struggled working out change. Finally after we got seated and waited for the drinks to be served (which was very expensive!!) It’s a lovely spot on the river I have to say but there was a man with a lovely dog who was chucking the stick in the water for her and she fetching it and bringing it back and everybody nearby was actually enjoying and commenting on this lovely dog (very well behaved) one waitress asked if the dog could be put on a lead to which the lad replied “she just swimming in the water” and she said that’s ok if she stays in the water. Anyway another waitress came over and said the dog HAS to be on a lead as she seen the dog near another table. The lad said “I’ll leave then” to which the miserable waitress replied “ok then” Talk about miserable hostile and pedantic !!!! No one complained about the lovely dog who was just climbing out of the water to fetch its stick back!!!!!! I felt embarrassed for the lad I really did and so did everyone else. Sorry would not recommend this place AVOID !!

Live local , walked over on a Sunday morning for a Coffee and a Bacon Buttie .. 2 Coffes and 2 Bacon Sandwiches £18.00 . Have contacted the owner as we thought we may have been accidentally overcharged . His response was" we did nt ask " .? ? ??? .. Enough said really

Cakes were very tasty, and the children enjoyed their milk shakes ! At £6.50 each, I was expecting a bit more than a jam jar full, though, to be honest. My main issue was I ordered a shandy as yes it's licenced which is great on a hot sunny day after a walk. Sadly, flat lemonade when I said that's flat, he took it out the back and came back saying he had put fresh lemonade in clearly, not as the shandy was flat and not the best. I was then told they wisk all the bubbles out to get flat lemonade for shandy !!! It's a Shame really as all they needed to do was open a new bottle!

Great little cafe off the beaten track. Idyllic surroundings for a spot of lunch. The food was fresh & delicious. And the view to be had whilst eating was the icing on the cake.

Walked from Whitby to Ruswarp along the cinder path at the side of the rail tracks, took about 30mins, lovely cup of coffee and cake, sat at the side of the river bank, lovely young couple serving the drinks, oh also bought duck food as love feeding the ducks wherever we go, even though we have no children, would definitely recommend

Just had a journey through food heaven. Excellent coffee. One of the best espressos I've had in this country & a perfect lemon drizzle cake. Quiet Riverside surroundings, so perfect on a sunny autumn morning. Today can't get a lot better.

What a beautiful location right by the river. Food and service were great. It was busy and parking is on the road. However, as we were stopping in Ruswarp we walked.

Coffee and elderflower today, first visit but lovely tranquil cafe next to the river. You can buy food for feeding ducks.

You may think giving a garden with a French van where one orders food from 5 stars means I. am a mad person, but sitting by the river on a sunny day to then be delivered the most succulent tasting sandwiches was that good we went back a few days later and the food and service was as perfect as the first. A real worth place to search out.

Lovely place peaceful by the river - sandwiches a bit pricey but nice

Nice cafe by the Riverside, they also have miniature railway and you can buy food for ducks. Bonus - you can see and hear trains go past on North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Lovely frothy coffee and cream scone sat looking over the river and watching out for steam trains passing on the opposite bank. You order at the van outside and your order is brought to you. The picnic style seating has large parasols, and I imagine they open the inside seating area in less wonderful weather. A short drive from Whitby, and a pretty place to go if you want a change from the sea.

Loved this little Riverside cafe just outside Sleights. Chanced upon it whilst out for a drive, luckily! Really good coffee, and as for the bacon sandwich, well, I'm going back tomorrow for another! Lovely staff, very pleasant and friendly. Can't be faulted!

Sat in the sun outside alongside the river, a beautiful spot. Staff were very busy, but still found the time to be friendly, polite and helpful.

Waited over an hour for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks. The food was fresh hence the 3stars but the organisation and number of staff was not good. They just seemed overwhelmed by people coming out on a sunny day. We would have walked off if we hadn't paid at time of ordering.

A great find! Ten of us ate here and had various things from salads, sandwiches and quiche, everyone really enjoyed their food. The location is superb right next to the river and the service was really good as well Definitely worth a visit

My first time here and I'm so impressed. Loads of car parking, surroundings are beautiful and so tidy and well presented. The outdoor area is so peaceful and well laid out with huge umbrellas for shade or shelter (needed that from the rain today!). Service was really superb and very friendly and helpful. The coffee and cakes were beautiful. All in all, a very peaceful place, with a riverside view and top quality food and service. Thanks!

We discovered this lovely tea shop by the River after walking from Whitby to he little village of Ruswarp.

Gorgeous location, lovely coffee and toasted tea cakes. No long waits and staff offered water for our dog on a warm sunny day. Definitely one to return to for us.

This is a nice little cafe by the river. Quiet and simple. There are ducks that waddle around nearby and trains pass on the other side of the river, including the diesel and steam locomotive. I enjoyed a simple chicken and stuffing sandwich with fresh salad. Beer on tap is also served, perfect for a sunny day. The staff were nice and there is a nice friendly atmosphere around.

Great spot on the Esk. Riverside cafe and garden. You can even walk to it from Whitby on a delightful path between the railway and the river!
