Whinstone View Bistro in Hambleton

Visited on a Wednesday morning having booked online. Beautiful setting in lovely countryside, ample parking & the bistro area itself was really nice. My wife had the banana break, I had the full breakfast plus coffees, both of which were excellent.

Three course Sunday dinner - Starter’s small but nice. Sunday dinner - Beef was thinly cut, fatty and tasteless. Roast potatoes hard. Ask for sauces and they charge you extra? Desserts- Crumble had hardly any crumble on it? Sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce was cold. Nice location and venue but won’t be going back.

Please please stop drowning the Sunday lunches with gravy our plates were swimming …. what ever happened to using a gravy boat/jug.. It So spoilt an otherwise a lovely meal …

First visit since refurbishment, it was quirky, but it is modern and stunning. Short but sweet visit with family. Little one had homemade gf fish fingers and he ate everything. We shared pizzas, the best I've had outside Italy, thin fluffy base, amazing fresh tomato and herb sauce, overall, exceptional. I would recommend Whinestone to anyone seeking great food.

Have visited many times before but not since the refurbishment Very pleasant atmosphere, plenty of room around the tables and excellent attentive staff. There were 6 on our table and the service was efficient. All were more than satisfied with our meals and deserts and found it very reasonably priced. There was a small hiccup which was promptly put right to my satisfaction and if I could make a suggestion it would be to removed the fish and chips from your menu. I do not think you are doing your chefs justice expecting them to prepare this meal when there is a great deal of excellent meals on offer. It did not in any way spoil what was a pleasant experience and we will return without doubt and recommend you to others, perhaps maybe not order fish and chips.

15 of us came here to celebrate my Dad’s 80th birthday and have to say everything was amazing! It’s such a stunning location. We were outside at the side of the Bistro which was undercover and just felt like our own private party it was lovely. Food was fantastic and the staff were very attentive.

Visited the Bistro for Lunch, well laid out inside and staff where pleasant, the food however was very bland (classic burger) no taste or seasoning on the burger or fries bun overladen with mayo and the coleslaw again bland and mainly mayo

Nice setting with lots of greenery and inside or outside seating. Decent choice of food and good service. The food itself was pretty good and the place is well worth another visit.

Booked for my 70th Birthday. It was perfect, very welcoming, friendly helpful staff. As there were 14 guests We pre-ordered food, 6:30 for food at 7:00 Starters arrived bang on 7 all excellent. Main meals were unbelievable everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. Children's meals were lovely. My compliments to them all. We will definitely be going back.

Having recently visited for a family get together of 10, we were very disappointed from start to finish. On arrival, there was loud and unsuitable music and twice we requested it be turned down. The table was right by the door infront of a large screen tv which was on, which staff were more interested in watching than attending to the guests! Some of the staff were looking disheveled and yawning and we had to attract their attention in order to place our drinks order. The starters were disappointing. The prawn cocktail was lacking in taste and was watery. The garlic mushrooms were served on soggy brioche roll which was unpalatable. The soup, however, was acceptable. With regard to the main course the only issue was the vegetables. They were poorly “cooked” in as much to say they were far too hard, even for people who like their veg cooked al dente style. For a table of 10, the vegetables were served in only one dish with a dessert spoon buried amongst it. Not suitable to serve and poorly presented with the vegetables all mixed up! This was obviously done without any thought or care. The roast potatoes were soggy and not crispy like a roast potato should be. Regarding the desserts, the plates were too narrow for the lemon tart to sit on and they were sliding around. My 95 year old auntie had chosen the salmon which was too big for her to eat in one go so she asked for half of it to boxed up to take home. When it hadn’t arrived back, she asked where it was and was told it had been thrown away! All in all we were very disappointed and won’t be going back.

Visited last night to celebrate a wedding. Less than an hour in the manager asked who the bride was and when she said in jest it's me am I in trouble the manager stood there and said yes! Manager proceeded to say INFRONT of the guests that when they booked the terrace out they were advised no wedding attire (she was advised no wedding dress) because they can't host two weddings in the same day which the bride advised she wasn't wearing her wedding dress then the manager said the gents were all in suits! I have never been so embarrassed for the bride and she was in tears being publicly humiliated. If anyone has done wrong it whinstone view because the bride was very clear that it was a wedding party when she had booked..you have broken your own policy by allowing a 2nd wedding. You even put signs on the tables saying congratulations!! When its a wedding reception do you think people won't be wearing the same clothes as the wedding ceremony?! The bride was in tears and you have ruined her special day. Horrendous customer service! 😡 Also accused of bringing drinks in. Some people got off the minibus from the ceremony with open bottles of peroni. The rest were supplied by you and paid for by the bride and were in ice buckets on the terrace! If there was a problem why was it not addressed on the way in? Or in private? To then say we'll it doesn't matter now because it's already happenned! If it doesn't matter why bring it up and spoil someones day. Or better still don't be greedy and knowingly book a 2nd wedding party?! Disgusting service avoid at all costs

Celebrated a friend's birthday here. The food was gorgeous and the staff lovely. What a nice gesture to give the birthday girl a free glass of prosecco. The scenery is stunning and the menu varied. We'll definitely go there again

We visited on Friday night with the family for restaurant week. Although we had initially booked a table indoors, the pleasant weather prompted us to choose an available outdoor seating option. The atmosphere was delightful with live music, the food was superb, and the staff were excellent. We'll definitely be returning soon!!

Afternoon tea. What a disappointment this was, we have eaten here many times and thought we would have afternoon tea. When it came the lady I was with said maybe there’s more coming! The scones were tough, the brownie you could not get a fork through, sandwiches were minuscule, we have had many afternoon teas and this ranks as one of the most disappointing, we even had to ask for the pot of tea, could not recommend at all. We don’t even know what the tiny tartlet was supposed to be, no sliced quiche or anything, very sparse.

My fiance and I visited Whinstone View's Spa and Bistro. All in a beautiful setting surrounded by trees. We both thoroughly enjoyed our spa treatments, I had the mum-to-be special with Jo and my partner had the full body aromatherapy massage with Emily. We felt well taken care of and left feeling refreshed and restored. Jo guided me through the treatment and ensured I was comfortable throughout. Very professional and the products smelled divine. Lunch in the bistro was delicious, all cooked to a high standard and staff were friendly. Thanks for facilitating a lovely day for us both

Came without a booking, the restaurant was extremely busy as there were 2 large parties in. We were advised that if we stayed for lunch there would a half hour wait, we were in no rush so this was fine and we'd have a drink while we were waiting. About 25 minutes later our order was taken, I had the power salad and my boyfriend got a Parmo. Both were delicious and very filling. I made the mistake of ordering a side of chips with the salad as the salad itself was very substantial indeed. The Americano coffee was really good! The service was good and the staff members who served us were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. My boyfriend couldn't finish his huge Parmo so had the rest boxed up. Highly recommended and will definitely be back. :)

Tried on two separate occasions to eat here for breakfast but was turned away both times despite arriving well before the 11am cut off (listed on website) On the first occasion we arrived around 10.30 but were just told they had stopped serving. On the second occasion we arrived at 10.40 to use a voucher a friend had bought us but were told we couldn’t have breakfast (despite the website saying cut off is 11) due to them having a wedding which wasn’t listed anywhere.

A hen party celebration of 16. I couldn’t make it, so called during the day and asked for a cocktail to be given to the bride on arrival and ask them to say who it was from. A woman took my order and payment fine and appeared to be writing a note to pass the message on to the bride for when she arrived. The party was booked for 6pm and at 9pm the cocktail still hadn’t been given. I had to call the restaurant and prompt for the drink to be taken to the table!! It was dumped on the table at approximately 10pm and no message given so the bride had no idea what was going on or who it was from. I then had to text the bride to say it was from me. The fact the drink was taken so late meant the party were about to leave but then ordered another round so the bride could finish the cocktail. Clever planning? An absolute waste of my money, time and it lost all sentiment. Not happy with the service at all. One drink. One job.

Booked into the bistro for a birthday meal , 14 people. We all pre ordered our food and arranged for it to be served at 18:30. We had a warm welcome and were shown to our table. The staff made us feel very welcome. The food was served on time and was fresh, piping hot and delicious. This is a beautiful place, food is great and well priced. Highly recommend.

We booked the private dining room for 36 people and also tickets to the St Patrick's Shindig in the Barn. The dining room is lovely and decorated to a high standard. Everyone had a fabulous evening, the food was great and the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. We then went over to the Barn for the Shindig, fantastic event and the band were brilliant. All in all the staff were helpful and informative during booking, with all the pre orders and on the evening. The venue looks great and we'll definitely be back.

I attended a works night out. There were 36 of us there for a meal. The service and food was faultless. Everything was delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert and I can honestly say it was one of the nicest desserts I have ever had. It was sublime. I would highly recommend a visit.

Disappointed Mother’s Day.. After an issue with booking time, we were told in no uncertain terms ‘we have no sittings at 3.15pm!! ( we did get an apology ‘it was the computer! but it didn’t seem very sincere…) we felt there was an atmosphere as soon as we arrived. 2 guests asked to change the beef as it was pink. It was changed, however we were told ‘staff don’t ask how you would like your beef on a Sunday’ the beef was also fatty and chewy. 2 other guests couldn’t eat there’s either. My daughter had ice cream as a dessert.. £6.50 for a meagre child size portion. We were given a discount on the bill but no one told us what the discount was for. We would definitely not return or recommend Ruined Mothers Day for myself, my mother and my mother in law!!!

Attended today for Mother's Day for the 1530 sitting. Haven't been here for a good 10 years and always been happy with the food and service previously. Place looked the part but the service and food left a lot to be desired. Firstly we were sat down and asked about drinks, we advised we were waiting for other guests to arrive but then got asked another two times by different staff members if we wanted drinks, from the offset staff communion didn't seem brilliant. The table we were seated at was very uneven and there was limited legroom at each end of the table due to the way it was designed and I'm not exactly the tallest person either. We asked for pints of drinks most without ice, they took ages to arrive and some had ice in that weren't meant to and no way were the glasses pint glasses either, considering at all times staff were all huddled at the bar area doing nothing and the place wasn't exactly packed the time to wait wasn't acceptable even for drinks. We ordered our 3 course meals and as we had a child were asked if we wanted his food to come with our starters which we said yes. When the starters came our child's food didn't arrive as promised with the starters, we had to ask and it was another 10 minutes, the portion was tiny for a child who was 11 (they claim a child's portion is up to age 12!) and he was still hungry afterwards, the chicken also tasted processed, the portion was shameful for £12 (inc an ice cream.) Starters - 3 of our guests had prawn cocktails and two sent them back, all 3 were tiny prawns and a tiny portion at that, all were watery and barely had any Marie Rose sauce and they clearly hadn't been drained property, all served with cheap bread which wasn't buttered and tasted dry. The soup was okay, however the bread they served with it did not come with any butter nor we were offered any. In fairness we were offered replacement starters for the ones that were sent back. Whilst sat waiting for our main courses, we heard of a number of other guests complaining about the quality of the food, for example the table next to us complained about the quality of the beef and even the replacement meat they were given wasn't acceptable. We got to 25 mins later between courses and by this point one of our guests took unwell and had to leave and by this point the whole meal was ruined as far as we were concerned, aside the from the fact that the main courses still hadn't arrived we advised we wanted the bill and wanted to leave. I would also add that the staff all appeared very unhappy and were all huddled at the front of the bar area talking, the whole atmosphere wasn't great and we found it very unprofessional for staff to be stood around in the manner they did, they took drinks from our table and didn't offer any further drinks, which was just odd. To the credit of the staff member that we discussed our dissatisfaction with we were advised they would not be charging us for any of the drinks or food we had despite our offer to pay for what we had, I could tell that she was very embarrassed by our complaint and did apologise. However this doesn't make up for the fact two mothers had their Mother's Day ruined by a substandard meal and service. Based on our visit today I couldn't recommend this place to anyone, the food was overpriced, it was poorly made/cooked and of a poor standard and the young staff were unprofessional and clearly lack communication skills when dealing with customers, the whole vibe was very negative. So disappointed considering when I last visited 10 years ago it was a great place to visit with lovely food. In my view it's still a lovely place but the food isn't even average. A lot of lessons to be learned here at the expensive of a poor Mother's Day meal.

Lovely location and surroundings, place looked very clean . We had booked a table under the belief on booking that it was part of the Eating Out In Teesside Deal . Shown to our table then looked at Menu . We then quizzed the waitress about the menu and where told that this deal was not o and had ended the day before ( Friday ) I was in earshot of my partner when she booked it and she was told twice that , Yes it was part of this £20 for two meals . But disappointed , ordered drinks a nice latte and a soda and lime . Both arrived promptly , could not fault the staff . We then ordered two Parmos , I asked for mine to be overcooked . The music then seemed to become louder , few others in the bistro also commented on this . Food arrived in good enough time , lovely chips and salad , my Parmo had a soggy bottom with the breadcrumb coating falling off . Mine was hot but more like a microwave heat ( lots of steam ) . The Parmo was average at best ( soggy bottom ) . This is another establishment that panders to the belief that everything in the plate comes in its own receptacle ie , bucket for chips , bowl for salad , pot for garlic sauce. Yes it’s easy enough to tip it out , but just confuses the plate and makes the table full of spent crockery . In all nice staff , lovely surroundings and decor . But the initial confusion and doggy bottom makes it average at best . Ultimately you go out for a meal to eat and this was ‘ Meh ‘ at best . Would I go again , probably Not as there are far better cheaper places . Ps 2x Parmos , 1 latte and a Sosa and lime was £35.70 . Left a £3.30 tip as the staff were polite and friendly.

I had prebooked a table and given our order prior to coming for lunch. The communication with the staff at the bistro was very good.This was my first visit and wasn't disappointed. Lovely surroundings and ample parking. The restaurant is very clean and plenty of seating inside, there is a terrace outside for when the weather improves. The staff were friendly and as we had preordered we were asked when we wanted our food which arrived promptly after we had asked for it.Most of us had chicken parmesans and weren't disappointed, they were ample sized and the chips were the best ive had for a long time.Prices were reasonable and overall a lovely experience. Will certainly visit again. Thank you

We married here 2016 and we still love this place 💕We had a dinner party for my Mum’s 80th birthday last night and it was perfect. Samantha looked after us and she was lovely. She made sure everything run smoothly and the food was amazing. The room we were in was gorgeous. Perfect night x

We stayed in the lodge for two nights.was lovely and relaxing.beautiful views and peace and quiet..relaxing hot tub was perfect..the bistro served excellent food and we had breakfast delivered to door which was lovely and tasty.the staff are very helpful and nothing is too much for them.would recommend to everyone.

We originally booked for 14 people in December for our Xmas work lunch. We paid a deposit and as usual with work an event was planned for the same day so we had to re arrange. We requested to change the date to January and this was done without any issues. They were quick to respond to emails and made amendments even up until the day when people dropped out and pre choice meals were changed. I can't thank them enough as when booking these things for colleagues it's important everything goes smoothly. The food was amazing and staff friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this bistro for work events.

Fabulous Christmas party night at with the Last Anthem group last night, a brilliant local band that obviously enjoy every minute entertaining the crowd! Excellent staff can’t fault them for their willingness to help and friendliness, a big plus when they were so busy. Very well organised and a great hog roast meal in the very festive ‘barn’. Excellent night had by us all and will definitely get tickets again next year…

Customer service was shocking waited 40 minutes for a table although we were told to get there for 7:00 we were sat down at 7:40. Pre ordered a parmo without egg as my girlfriend has an egg allergy the manager put down a parmo in-front of her luckily she asked before eating as it contained egg. The manager comes back out with the parmo saying they don’t do eggless Parmo’s although the woman on the phone said the chef can do that as long as it’s pre booked. She was rude and dismissive and offered little other options which resulted in my girlfriend having a bowl of chips, wasn’t even a sorry just a comment saying ‘ it’s human error’. SHAMBLES. Wouldn’t advise this place to eat unless you fancy terrible service and a manager who couldn’t run a day drink in a pub

I was part of a group of eight who had lunch here today. One of our friends - a disabled lady - felt unwell in the car park on arrival. The staff were absolutely brilliant. They were so kind, understanding and helpful bringing a chair and a glass of water and waiting until our friend felt well enough to move on. Nothing was too much trouble for them while standing outside in the cold. In addition to this our food was delicious and each one of us chose a different meal, so a very big thank you to all of the staff here.

Had a lovely family meal and drinks at Whinstone view tonight. Special mention to Kate, Ryan and Alyssa for looking after us so well. Our meals were delicious. The parmos were huge and the mushroom risotto was the best I’ve ever had, thank you! Would definitely recommend.

We visited Whinstone View to sample their pizzas and were not left disappointed! They were the best pizzas I have had outside of Italy! We ordered a chicken pesto, The veggie one and pepperoni! The service was excellent Kate went out of her way to print a word search for my nephew, and the bar staff were very attentive! The cocktails also looked amazing, but I was driving, maybe next time!

We visited Whinstone View Bistro for breakfast post lockdown to find all COVID measures were in place which made us feel really safe! The staff were really friendly, explaining the procedures and looking after us. It was really busy but we got seated and served in a reasonable amount of time. The full Yorkshire breakfast was fantastic, piping hot and clearly decent meat. We got the 50% off too which made it extremely good value!! The only thing we noted was staff weren’t wearing masks or visors but they were following all procedures really well so it wouldn’t stop us returning soon. Thank you!!

Ventured out to Whinstone View for the first time in a long time. We used to regularly visit up until a few years back, but after a couple of bad experiences hadn't been in a long while.Firstly, the location can't do anything but impress. In fact, the outside area has been significantly improved and extended since we were last there. The gardens are immaculate.Sanitiser on entry was available and waiting to be seated was standard fayre in the current climate. What we did notice (not to say this is wrong) that was different to all other places we have tried post lockdown is that none of the staff were wearing masks - it was the first thing the kids (not us) noticed.The place was busy, but nicely spaced out meaning it took a while to order but the food was ok. I enjoyed the burger whilst the sandwiches on sour dough looked good. The rest of the party were a little disappointed though with the seafood pasta quite runny (as if the water wasn't drained) and a bit bland.Feels like a place we'd head back to for a bottle of wine on a sunny afternoon but probably wouldn't rush back for a family meal.
