Visited as a couple 7 March. We were staying in the hotel. Ambience was good. The eating area could perhaps do with a bit of updating but it is fine. Menu is a mix of pub classics and more adventurous dishes. I had one of the latter as a starter, Lamb Tagine Roll with harissa mayo and smoked aubergine purée. Very good. The roll had chunks of lamb and the mayo had a kick. Tasted and presented very well. I had steak and ale pie for main. Appeared home made with real chips. Again very good Mrs W had the pork belly which she enjoyed too. We had a very nice bottle of NZ Sav Blanc as well. Very good value.

Had a meal, which was spoilt by the cheese board, having frozen date and fig salami. What made it worse, was one of my friends queried this, and the young lad, behind the bar, said it's supposed to be frozen!!!! I gather, it was supposed to be spreadable. This young lad, then proceeded to kick the kitchen door, in front of all, to see. His attitude, was appalling.

Random choice for lunch, as we were cold and hungry. We were moved, by the staff, to a larger table, for our comfort! Excellent service. We ordered half size meals, couldn’t even finish them. Much impressed by lots of fresh vegetables, and a massive portion of fish. I think we will be back here again, very friendly staff, good service and great food at a reasonable price.

We ate here for our anniversery very pleasant pub with a good menu and special board. The young man who served us was very helpful and pleasant. We started with the soup which was Tomato and Basil and came with a warm bread roll and butter.. I opted for the roast dinner with a choice of beef pork or lamb I choose the beef which came with Yorkshire and roast potatoes and gravy it would have been nice to have had a small jug of gravy too. A dish of vegetables which included beans cabbage broccoli and sliced new potatoes with small carrots which I shared with my husband. He had a b-b-q chickens dish with mash and veg. WE did not have room for dessert but my husband had a latte and I had a Irish coffee which I have not had for a long time. IT cost a total £45 which we thought quite good

Met family members here for lunch mid week. We've visited once before and were so impressed with the food and service, we just had to visit again! Our second visit was just as pleasing and enjoyable as the first. Delicious homemade food, cooked fresh and quality ingredients. Hot drinks served "hot" just as they should be with tasty biscuits too. Warm welcome and great service too - think we will have to go back for a third visit at some point (too nice not too!!!)

We dropped in here early on a Friday evening after the cafes around the market square had closed for the day. We were after a simple cup of coffee, and they were able to quickly oblige, good value for money, with a cheaper rate if you have a 2nd cup, which was a nice touch. We had a scan of the menu, the food is a bit more expensive than other local rival pubs in town, and the dining room area is maybe a bit more formal, but there were a good range of main course offerings in the £15-20 range. This was a former coaching horse inn, a handy stopover heading north from York in the olden days, and this probably accounts for the rambling layout. It is a hotel with bedrooms available. A good bar with a range of well kept real ales, and the front seating area was starting to fill up with early evening diners ordering food and having a quiet drink before going into the dining area. The dessert options looked quite tempting, and there was a gentle hubbub of conversation, it had a welcoming atmosphere and the staff were polite, efficient, and smartly turned out. If we had more time, we would maybe have eaten here, but it was a handily placed stop for a cup of coffee before heading back home to West Yorkshire.

This is our fourth visit to the George. So pleased that someone recommended this hotel to us. Good food, clean and comfortable rooms and hospitable service makes it a winner for us. The icing on the cake I am reliably informed by himself is the well kept ale! Role on visit number 5

Only called in for a coffee on a Friday Evening but had a good buzz in the bar and seating available in nice restaurant area. Menu looked good with some great deserts. Reasonably priced. Will return to eat sometime. Coffee was good and gave the option for a cheaper refill which was a great idea.

We were not impressed by this place. A nice enough pub with a good choice of beer but the cost of bed and breakfast for a very dated room was comparatively high. The food was unimpressive and not really very memorable. The gravy on my roast beef was sugary sweet. Whether the chef mistook the salt for sugar, I don't know and couldn't be bothered to ask as we will never eat there again

We ate here on the evening of October 23rd 2014 and I have honestly never had such a terrible meal. They really didn't understand that when they ask you how your meal was and you say well it was just ok that that is not a good thing. They thought that was great feedback...weird. I'm 29 and there was no atmosphere at all, I literally felt 50 years too young to be in here. The menu was the most bizarre thing in the world. Chorizo, smoked beef and onion bhaji as a starter and also corned beef hash with a fried egg and bacon as a starter. Obviously these were so weird we had to try them. They were pretty awful. I wanted the haloumi advertised online but that didn't appear on the menu. For mains I had the beer battered haddock which was actually the only pleasing part of my meal. The anaemic uncooked in the middle chips were horrendous. My husband had the scampi which unfortunately came with the same dreadful chips. The scampi was ok.Safe to say we didn't have desserts and were very happy to get out of there as quick as possible.Honestly if you want a decent meal in Easingwold go to Mumbai Indian Cuisine where we went the night before and it was superb. This is the first bad review I've ever written for anything but felt it was absolutely necessary due to the completely inadequate food.

we ate here on a Thursday evening for my husbands birthday. it was fairly quiet in the restaurant where we chose to eat although on leaving, the courtyard part of the hotel was full. I had the moules marinere to start; these were lovely & fresh & most importantly not too many of them which a lot of places make the mistake of doing. My husband had the crispy confit of chicken which he said was delicious. for mains I had the thyme marinated chicken supreme & hubby had the pork medley. Both mains were spot on with just enough, portion wise, to fill us up enough to not manage a desert, however I feel that this was also because we did not have a sufficient gap between finishing our starters & our mains being brought out. we are going back to the area next year & will definitely be paying the George hotel another visit.

We arrived here for a meal following a recommendation from the excellent B and B we are staying at, on arrival we ordered drinks and enquired if it was possible to arrange a table for two, they were extremely busy, but welcomed us and arranged a table with no fuss whatsoever. The soup starter was just delicious, I then had the haddock goujons (half portion) which was HUGE, my husband had the trio if sausages which were also delicious, everything was piping hot and perfect, we really wanted to try the desserts but could not fit another thin in, on the whole this was a really enjoyable experience, the owners and the staff are so friendly and welcoming, we plan to go back at least once more before we leave the area, many thanks to all involved.

My wife's birthday is 2nd. January so we are used to eating in almost empty restaurants when we go for a meal on her birthday. However, The George was far from empty and quite a few people were eating. The George is a former 18th century coaching inn that offers food, good quality hand-pulled beers (it's listed in CAMRA's 2014 Good Beer Guide) and accommodation. The staff always give a warm welcome and service is very efficient. There are distinct drinking / eating areas within the pub as well as a separate dining room if you want to eat more formally. The menu is varied, from sandwiches (lunchtimes only but including Sunday - very good if you get fed up of pubs that only do the 'traditional' Sunday lunch) to full meals at very reasonable prices for the quality. There are wooden benches in front of the pub overlooking the pretty market place, and parking is free outside the pub..Well worth a visit as is the quaint town itself.

Needed somewhere quiet for lunch and stumbled across this place. On first entering I could have been forgiven for thinking it might have been pensioners day, but to my mind that is often a good indicator. I ordered the Chargrilled Venison with seasonal vegetables, the food came in a time that suggested it was cooked fresh, the venison was spot on and the veg cooked exactly as it should be. everything tasted exactly as it should, carrots tasted of carrots etc.All in all a great meal, great service form a couple of young members of staff who could quite frankly have not cared, but they did, they went out of their way to make me feel welcome, make sure my order was as expected and were attentive but not OTT. All in all an excellent lunch and I am sure I will be returning to try the dinner A La Carte sooner rather than later.

We visited this restaurant, located in a hotel on our first night. Centrally located, a reasonably friendly welcome and an attractive menu was a definite pull and as far as the food was concerned, this was pleasantly served and once we got going sumptuous. However, the only minor gripe was the lack of roast potatoes with a roast dinner, compounded by a small helping of mixed vegetables for two people which contained only half a new potato! To their credit the waiting staff did remedy this by supplying a bowl of new potatoes for which we paid extra. But sometimes you just have to go with the flow........when in Rome......

My parents stayed here some years ago and had nothing but praise, however I was sceptical due to time laps. No need. We had lunch on arrival whilst watching local Fun Run build up, then ate later that day. Food was fresh and piping hot.. Owners made it their business to chat to customers, 2 days later, again we ate here, again marvelous food, piping hot, and again owners chatted amongst all customers, regardless of residents or casual visitors like ourselves. Staff amazing and 'on the ball'. Thank you for 2 lovely meals....

The George could be so much better; its location is brilliant but its food is lacklustre, as though the owners can really be bothered with making the effort to improve. So, owners, time to up your act, before your patrons vote with their feet.

I used to work nearby and then frequently visited The George. Part of it's attraction is that it is 'dated', A typical 'posh place' in a small rural market town. If you are coming down the A19 to York then The George is well worth a one mile detour - parking is easy. As you return to the main road you will find the most fantastic traditional butcher.

Very enjoyable meal as part of a group of 13. My calf's liver on black pudding mash, follow by plum and almond tart with Creme Freche was really good, with well kept Moorhouse's ( all the way from Pendle in Lancashire) and Black Sheep Ales to wash it down with. The atmosphere was good, and the service really friendly. Only minor negative was it did take about 5 minutues to get all 13 of us served, but that wouldn;t be a worry for a smaller party and the food was worth the wait!

Getting to Easingwold late in the evening (approaching 9pm), it turned out to be a choice between The Snug and The George. While the Snug is reckoned to be good, it turned out to be a poor option for my vegetarian wife, offering only one real choice (funny how many places don't realise pesto isn't vegetarian), so after wandering around looking for other restaurants and pubs still serving food, we finally found The George. The food at the George Hotel is served within the bar area, albeit with a good number of tables clearly set aside for dining. The menu wasn't the longest in the world, but had a couple of interesting choices for my wife and plenty to suit me. I can't remember exactly how my wife's dish was described, but it was a twist on a lasagne that tasted fantastic even if it looked a little underwhelming. My own food was (I think) liver, bacon, mash and vegetables with a rich gravy and it was fantastic - good quality meat, well prepared and nicely presented. These meals, coupled with a very nice blonde ale from the bar turned the evening from a desperate search for an acceptable meal into a really nice evening in a nice, friendly pub. We were told afterwards that The George is really for people a fair bit older than us, but we never got that feeling and found it suited us perfectly. What that says about us is another thing.Overall, however, I'd happily recommend it.

I have been here for the last 3 weeks on business for 2 nights a week, still 3 weeks to go 😀 Lovely welcome by everyone who has been on reception on all my visits, very helpful, friendly and they go that extra mile to help. The rooms I've stayed in so far are ( 2-10 and 31) which were very clean, cosy and well presented with everything you needed, Iron, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities. The only little issue was the shower door rollers kept coming loose, just life cycle replacement needs attention at some point. I could not fault any of the cleaning at all and that's very rare for me due to being a cleaning trainer for the NHS, hotels, schools and offices for 20 years. I meet some of the cleaning first thing on the morning and they were also very polite and always smiling. The bar area was comfortable, clean, all the staff are friendly and the food in the restaurant-bar is excellent, large portions, presented beautifully and very tasty...... 😋 I didn't have the breakfast , so i can't comment on that... Thank you so much for making me feel welcome, especially when I'm here on my own. I will miss coming here when my business in Northallerton comes to an end 😊
