Sunday lunch was fantastic and a fabulous price. Made to feel welcome and will definitely be going back.

No glasses on race days. Poor bottles into plastic. Say it's the police but loads stood outside with bottles. Won't be going to Thirsk again

A great pub. We initially went to the wetherspoon across the way but it had sticky tables and no atmosphere. They had a singer on. It was a great night. The cost of a pint is more than Wetherspoons but not much more. Well worth it. 👍

Called for drinks only and really enjoyed what we had. This pub was full of locals who were having a great time. The beers were good and the staff so helpful and friendly. Well recommended.

Best pub in town, Cheryl the landlady is a cracking lass even though she is a Geordie! 😂 Great atmosphere, lovely pints and also entertainment on a weekend, couldn't ask for more

Great pub on the corner of the fabulous msin square in Thirsk. Outside seating/smoking area all the big sports and dog friendly!! Liked it there had a good vibe!

Wish I had a pub like this near my house. From the first night I we felt like a regular. We went every night with our 2 dogs. Cheryl, the owner, works incredibly hard and will do whatever she can to improve your visit. An amazing and lovely lass. Zeus their dog runs around happily much to the glee of all in the place except my cocker. A shame and I felt bad for Zeus. Became friendly with most of the regulars. Even bought shots on the second night and drank with a few of them. Such fun. Becky, the 38 year old single mom, was a delight to chat with...and I regret not exchanging Facebook details with her. So, Becky, or any friend off Becky ....would love to fix that poor error in judgement. We will definitely go back when we return to the area. I cannot recommend this place highly enough...and the drink prices were substantially less than here in Birmingham. Lovely memories!

I absolutely love this place! Cheryl is an amazing hostess...and Zeus the dog is lovely. Went 3 nights in a row. Felt like a regular. Would love to here from Becky the 38 year old mom, regret not exchanging Facebook details. This place is super dog friendly and bar drinks are below average. Can not wait to return.

Like any other pub you can go in and use the game's machines 🤘 but oh not this one you have to buy a drink before 🤔🙄 the landlord is a pepper grandad pig lookalike muppet 💯🤣

Oh my god!! We had been for a meal and thought we would get a drink afterwards. Didn't want to go in the Weather spoons because I thought it would be a bit common so tried The Black Bull instead. Now I'm no snob and have worked on building sites for 40years but this place is the pits. The decor is very nice but the clientele and staff are from a Hogarth depiction of gin lane

Lovely pub with cheap priced drinks served by very friendly staff. Dart board to use. Cosy and will definitely be revisiting when in the area again.

Sent my poor old mum in to use the toilet while visiting Thirsk. Rude staff gave an old lady trouble cause she had to pee and made her feel bad. I bet their food and drink is as bad as their attitude.

Went to watch the football, England won the semi! Not much of an atmosphere but that wasn't the pub's fault. They provided pizzas at half time which was a nice touch. A genuine pub run by friendly local staff.

The cask beer was poor. Tasted vinegary like it was on the point of going off. Soulless decoration and lacking in atmosphere.

Stayed in Thirsk for six nights and ended up going in this pub for a few drinks every day.Service was fantastic, Kayleigh the Landlady just couldnt do enough for you, COVID rules were well in place, toilets exceptionally clean and the Beer was fantastic x from the couple that sent the flowers

We stayed in a cottage in Thirsk for a few days and always stopped in here before going out for a meal. The staff were really friendly and it's a proper local, down to earth pub. The staff remembered us each nice and greeted us with a warm welcome. They have a happy hour and drinks are reasonable. You'll encounter a few locals in there but they add to the atmosphere. Would recommend popping in if you're passing.

Hubby and me met some friends in Market Place, Thirsk today 14/07/2020 and our friends had a dog with them. We all fancied a sit down and a coffee and went to a public house and sat in their beer garden. I ordered at the bar and then was told quite nastily that couldn’t sit in the beer garden with a dog as it was their Company Policy. We went outside and someone pointed out The Black Bull. Once the Black Bull was open we checked with the lovely landlady, who said, that we were welcome to sit in the beer garden with the dog. Please try out this lovely little pub as the landlady has only been in for 1 year and needs people to realise that this pub is now a little gem in Market Place, Thirsk.

the pub is now under new management, so any bad reviews will be from the previous management. Kayley is so lovely and has turned this pub into such a wonderful place. There is a good social distance system in place. Entrance through the front door. Order in box near entry,and collection to the rear/side of bar. Exit is located at back of the pub. Feels safe to drink here.Well worth a visit. Good selection of ales, staff and customers are all friendly, you can go in alone and you'll always have someone to chat with. Very welcoming.

After 4 months of lockdown I came for a catch up with friends. I had nice beer and renovation was refreshing. Also they have adhered to the covid 19 regulations in a very good way

chicken parmo is out of the world I would recommend it fresh ingredients and hand cut chips wow can not fault it and the staff were very friendly

After recently being taken over we went to try the new food on offer. We weren’t disappointed. Good quality ingredients at an affordable price. Definitely recommend! Proper homemade chips and the gravy was so tasty. Well done Kayley on what you’ve achieved.

Our kitchen opened this week for breakfast and lunches, fabulous value for money, takeaway service also available. We offer great drinks, cask ale, disco & Karaoke weekly. Folk Night every second Thursday of the month. A mens and womens darts team, mondays and Wednesday's. We are now looking at holding a quiz night. We hold event nights and value customers ideas and input. We have had a fabulous first few months

Visiting Thirsk for 5 days looked on line for dog friendly pubs serving food. The Black Bull no longer selling food. Under new management for two months. Need to cover signs inside telling you they serve quality food from 12 noon. 😳

Not going back there again. Staff was rude when bringing up the fact that there was no vodka in my vodka and coke and the pub is too rowdy.

Lovely place for a drink and a chat, good selection of draught beers and very dog friendly inside or outside in the beer garden. This is our 2nd visit and won't be the last, landlord and locals very welcoming.

We were in Thirsk on a Monday and were looking for a spot of lunch. Seeing the sign saying food available 7 days we went in to peruse the menu. The so called barman said "haven't you seen the sign saying we need a chef" then "We aren't doing food" - in very unfriendly manner.We went outside and saw a small sign asking for a chef in the corner of the window.Surely simpler to just remove the sign advertising food. Perhaps they need to advertise for a new barman too?

Lovely landlord and cheaper than weatherspoons.

Having decided to spend a night in Thirsk we looked forward to sampling a few of the local pubs and it was rather disappointing to find that, certainly in the Market Place on a Saturday night, they all seemed pretty much the same. I suppose that when you consider that the same groups of people go from pub to pub, it’s not that much of a surprise really.The Black Bull didn’t offer anything different in terms of service or ambience and can therefore be described as just another pub.

After going in six pubs in thirsk this is the worst. Asked for Diet Coke and girl behind bar said normal or diet, asked for a pint of bitter and she had to ask what glass to use. A pint one I’d guess. Clients leave a lot to be desired wobbling about and arguing at 8pm. I’ll avoid it next visit to thirsk

I called in here for a couple of pints at the weekend it has been a while since i was last here, There were a couple of kids sitting at a table with colouring books etc and the language from the the locals was terrible but the landlady/tennant did nothing Not some where i would choose to go for a meal.

Real dog friendly pub, went in for light late lunch and had sandwiches with chips, very nice in warm crispy bread, real ales on draft, very pleasent bar staff and very friendly pub well worth a visit

good lunch food tried twice to get food at night told first attempt kitchen closed on race day second attempt just told kitchen closed no reason just told there is two pubs opposite that do food one of the places sugested we were staying at anyway didn't bother going to the black bull anymore

Had a meal here during our visit to the area. Great service and excellent food. Very reasonably priced. centre of Thirsk which was good for assess.

Booked a table for lunch over 3 weeks ago, arrived on time yesterday to be told by the landlord who was not in a fit state that food was off as wife in bed....... no apology, no phone call!! Had to then look for another pub/restaurant on race day for 6 people!! Looking at the reviews think wehad a lucky escape!!!!

Great little market town pub, reasonable bar prices, food available although when we visited the kitchen was closed for some reason,good atmosphere.

We arrived and we we welcomed very friendly good service. We both had the pie and chips the pie was very poor quality. However this is a local pub for local people the language was disgusting definitely not a place to take children not impressed that a girl allowed her pug to sit on the seat next to her and be fed from her meal. I can quote the same girl in aloud voice she said "she was sucking his todger" not language I want to hear thanks as an adult let. Hardly anyone in there (I wonder why) we will not be returning.

I have to say this is a place I will not be recommended as I will not be returning back to it is not a place I would be saying take your family to or even take your mother or father to. All I can say to you is run and run as fast as you can it is outdated not claim and the staff are not knowledgeable about any of the products at all the glasses are not claim it reminds me of the old 80s bar stickers as we used to call them.

If you like real ale then you'll want to give this a miss.

Called in for lunch. Not impressed with the pie as you could tell it was frozen and had been microwaved as it had gone hard. Won't be going again
