Wheatsheaf Inn in Cheshire West and Chester

We had a great family lunch today (01/01/25), after having to cancel my birthday meal on 23/12/2024, due to illness. The Wheatsheaf Team, were understanding and happy to re-arranged for today. The food was delicious and we couldn’t fault it. They were even happy to cook a big breakfast, even though this had finished at 12 noon. They also left a Happy Birthday Card on the table for me, which was a lovely touch and was not expected at all. Thank you to The Wheatsheaf Team and chef, who were very accommodating. We will be back.

Went for our family Christmas Day meal and the food and service were excellent.

We came in for a some food and a catch up as we are all home from Uni for Christmas, the atmosphere was great and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Abbie was great on the bar, making sure we were all catered for. We will definitely be returning.

Ate out with some of the family and grandchildren, one of my eldest daughters favourites places for pub grub. Pretty busy as you,d expect so booking advisable, quite a lot of choice menu wise so all chose different things to eat , half decent food ,had better but have certainly had worse . Young lad waiting on was rushed off his feet but coped pretty well and most definitely was more attentive than our last visit there which wasn't him then. Price wise I would say is on par with most so not expensive and plenty of room inside so you don't seem hemmed in at all . Nice little break from the hectic Christmas period.

Very helpful and professional staff food was great

I had a mixed grill for some reason served on a fajitas plate Got given a 5oz steak instead of an 8oz which arrived medium when it was supposed to be rare, gammon stripped of it's fat , tiny bowl of fries , and all the food at the table came out at different times , the girls had Currys and they were missing poppadoms, and when did get them they were chewy , - worst place I've been too in ages, waiters have no clue what they are serving, trying to tell me a clear vinaigrette was balsamic and a steak the size of a chip is 8oz. Useless place and the last sizzling IL ever be going 2 - embarrassing

I visited The Whatsheaf a couple of weeks ago with a friend and I was so impressed that I decided to return and bring my wife for a meal before attending the Lanterns Light show at Chester Zoo. I cannot complain about anything. The chefs really know how to cook a steak, and the meat is top quality. My wife was more than happy with her fish and chips. The pub has a nice warm vibe to it, it is clean and comfortable. I would definately recommend The Wheatsheaf to friends to visit if they are in the area. We are actually from Northwich.

Superb service from Mark who goes above and beyond and the manageres to help in any way possible.Food from kitchen superb.

I made the mistake of ordering online and going to another restaurant. I arrived at the correct Sizzling restaurant and the manager served me promptly, very polite and efficient. I would like to thank and congratulate her and the staff!!!

Stopped in after a trip to the zoo, we we're welcomed by a very friendly manager who even tho the place was very busy found us a table and was really nice. Food and drinks came quickly and was very nice. We have always had a lovely meal from there and never been disappointed the size of the meal is good and great value as like I said is always delicious.

I had the chicken gyros & it was lovely. My partner had the burger & chips, he has had this at the Wheatsheaf previously & enjoyed it, however last night, apart from the outside edge, the burger was cold and red. The server asked us after she had put it down we were enjoying our meal, he told her and showed her the burger, he was offered a replacement, but as we did not have time to wait for another one to be cooked, nor did he want to be eating individually as I had done, we declined this.

The quality of the food was poor, ordered a sirlion steak, in all honesty it was more like a rump steak, it had a lot of grizzle in it, we gave the feedback to the server when she collected the plates, we received no response from the kitchen or management. The other meals in the party were no more than acceptable, the mixed grill was overdone. Will not be going to a Sizzler restaurant again.

Goodness, it was like going back in time with the prices of the food and drink, very reasonable and the food was very very good. For a cheap out you can't go wrong. The menu was awesome, so many fantastic options, the restaurant and bar area was really pleasant after recent refurb, some local pubs should look at how this place is run, they could learn something, I will be back and it's miles from where I live. Exceptional! Remember to add your car registration, you could get fined! My only gripe!

Popped in for a pint in august , and did not realise had to give registration in as no one told me and I have dyslexia so getting my partner to write this on my behalf , I only popped in for half hour on way home from work , i ended up with a 180 pound fine and threats from bayliffs if did not pay would be taken to court. Never seen the letters as I struggle with my post due to dyslexia and no one cared to help me , enough to put me off ever visiting this pub again and will also tell all my friends how I was treated. Most expensive pint I ever had! These kind of car parks are set up to catch people out be warned

Visited the Wheatsheaf inn yesterday. And the meal was fabulous. And yes, sizzling hot. We have visited a few of these pubs over the past few months, and there appears to be a lot of variation in how the meals are cooked and presented. Some sizzle but a lot don't, and skin chips replaced with plain frozen chips But I'm glad to say the meal we had yesterday was really nice. It's just a shame that we don't live closer to this venue. But we will call again when in the area. Would fully recommend the Wheatsheaf and its staff.

Best experience I’ve had in a hot minute!! Our server, Jess, was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. Such a lovely girl! Girl deserves a raise if you ask me. On that note the entire staff were all brilliant! A five star business!!!!!

We popped in for a table of seven people they couldn't seat us straight away we was glad they told instead of keeping us hanging on the place was packed so must be worth a try we will definitely try there next time we go zoo

Food was lovely and hot, my kids ordered a pizza which came quickly and looked delicious, they really enjoyed it. Staff members were quick to take orders at the bar, manageress spot on doing a fantastic job, well come back again.

The refurb has been done really well, inside and outside looks great. The food is better quality too and is good value for money. The starters make a great tapas, if you fancy a snack. The curry ultimate feast was fantastic as a very filling main meal. The rib and rump is also very tasty and cooked to.perfection. Dogs are now welcome in the bar area, which is a huge bonus.

Had a lovely meal in here last night, served by a lovely lady called Mya (hope i got the spelling correct) she could not do enough for us, polite and professional. The food was absolutely delicious, we tried the tandoori chicken and beef rib sizzlers, hunters chicken and the sirloin steak. The apple pie was to die for !! we also tried the pimp my brownie and the profiterole sundae. I was very impressed by the decor, surroundings, atmostphere, staff and food, well done and thank you, we will definitely be back!!

This was our local Booked this for my Birthday meal with my toddler and friends Arrived 20 mins early so went to the bar to grab drinks Only to be informed by the man serving ‘children can’t be in the bar area’ so where do you sit if you want drinks as we are early for our table his response was ‘well kids can only be in the pub if you’ve booked a table ‘ which we had but we was early so where do we wait ‘ well it should be ready but kids can’t be in the bar area!’ Got seated and then the app wasn’t working unless you went outside for signal as WiFi system you’ve gotta sign up for Sky WiFi now System was then down again informed by the man at the bar and discount code not working via the app The host also repeated that children can’t be in the bar area So if you’ve not booked a table children can’t be in there with you. We’ve been going there for years and never had issues before But since refurb new management etc clearly this is not a pub for little ones / family’s with young children If it was not for my birthday I would of walked out Honestly was shocked with the service and their lack of customer service and the tone used toward customers. once food finally arrived no check backs, we eat and left Very unhappy birthday to me Not likely to go again

We were visiting Chester to spend the day at the zoo, called at the Wheatsheaf after a long day. We were greeted by Mark, who looked after us really well. Everything was perfect. It’s not often you see great service like that anymore…. Thank you Mark and team

Went for lunch today. 1st time here since about 2008,when it was awful and I said I would never visit again. Anyway as it has recently been given a makeover ,and new management,I decided to give it a try again. Wow, extremely impressed . Excellent service very good food excellent prices,nice atmosphere, nice decor. Just 1 criticism, the music was a little too loud for us. Definitely will be going again very soon. Thanks

Four of us went on a bank holiday Monday. The pub is lovely inside looks as if it has been recently refurbished, toilets are spotless and wheel access for disabled toilets. We ordered two mixed grills, scampi and chips and tikka chicken with rice and veg. The meals were very nice apart from the steak on the mixed grills this was tough and tasteless. We spoke to the waiter who said its an on going issue with the steak and nothing has been done about it. shear waste of money and my husband had upgraded to the bigger steak. Wheatsheaf you need to speak to your supplier.

Visited The Wheatsheaf after a trip to nearby Chester Zoo. Food was fantastic - freshly cooked to perfection, piping hot and served quickly. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals immensely. My coffee was delicious, much better than the one I had at the Zoo and not overpriced. The service was just great, staff were genuinely friendly, helpful and attentive even bringing crayons for my daughter to do some colouring in while she waited. The pub was very well maintained, tidy and clean. Highly recommended, thank you.

Was told incorrect information regarding Groupon deal which lead to us paying more, long wait for service

We called in today for lunch. We was greeted by the manageress. Who was very welcoming and polite. She told us we could sit anywhere that was not reserved. I ordered the food at the bar and was served again by the manageress She was so lovely and knowledgeable. They have recently had a refurbishment which is modern and smart. We had gammon and lasagne which was excellent. The staff were all very polite and made us feel really welcome. Would just like to shout out the manageress again as she was really lovely and her staff were all very happy. Keep up the excellent work. Thankyou for a lovely visit will definitely return. .

Great evening at the Wheatsheaf for a colleague's leaving do. Food was excellent and well priced. Stayed for a fun quiz as well.

Ordered takeaway whilst on lunch Got back to the office, and there were several items missing from the order. The burgers were wrapped in a foil/paper material, which led to the steam/condensation pooling at the bottom making the bun soggy/wet. 2 of the team who ordered the food had bad stomachs later on in the evening. Overall disappointed, won't be rushing back to order from here.

Tried to tell us that company policy out rules a law. We ordered a family member an alcoholic drink as they were having food with it (which is perfectly legal) took the drink off of her and didn't even offer a replacement

Hadn't been here for a while, used to go regularly... however we had an awful meal so said wouldn't go again. Decided to give it another go today and must say I'm happy we did. Food was beautiful, piping hot, great fast service.... The place was extremely clean and looked very nice with all the decorations.... Staff were nice, pleasant and helpful... Price's are reasonable. We didn't have reservations but got seated straight away.... It was nice and warm inside as well..... Very happy would definitely recommend

Generally a nice environment after recent refurbishment, service was good, staff helpful and pleasant. The food whilst tasty and of good quality it could have been a touch warmer for my liking, thus the 4 stars in that respect.

It was our third maybe our fourth visit as usual it was great there are between 9or 12 of us we visit once a month we are the COMETTEE and meet once a month and go for a meal afterwards

Visited for the first time this evening on a Monday eve. My wife, daughter, and myself sat in the restaurant, haven just turned up with no prior reservation. This was not a problem. We were met by a lovely welcoming lady who escorted us to a choice of tables. The lady was very attentive and we soon had our drinks and shortly after, our main meals. I had the mix grill, which was piping hot and absolutely lovely with a peppercorn sauce. My wife had a lovely gammon steak which she happily polished off and my daughter had the sausage and mash, which she also enjoyed. The meals were all very tasty and filling. We added 3 cokes, a side of chips and onionrings. The staff were helpful and informative regarding menue options and recommendations. The total bill was just short of £40 which I thought was very fair. There was a car park with an extension to the rear. Remember to register your car on the screen inside the restaurant for the free parking. The toilets were positioned upstairs and were clean. I would recommend this restaurant and will visit again when in the area. It is also very close to the zoo, which is very handy when visiting there.

Affordable food.Great choice and price.We visit one a month too catch up with family and friends.Wheelchair friendly,We always book to make sure that the wheelchair user ,dosnt have steps to climb ,and are near to the disabled toilet.They also have baby changing facility in the disabled toilet Very friendly staff

Been going to this pub for a good few years and was shocked to see that not only a refurbishment but also new management. We ordered at the bar but was told we would have to pay £4 extra for sirloin steak on the mixed grill as they had ran out of rump steak that is usually on the meal. We ordered starters, mains and drinks. The syrup had gone in the Pepsi max so had to take the drinks back to the bar which wasn’t ideal. 20 minutes later the main meals arrived at the table I did explain to the man who brought the food over that we hadn’t even had are starters as of yet. He told us that all of the food would be coming to the table at the same time and nothing could be done about it now. Nobody even came over while we was eating are meals to check everything was ok, we finished are food and left without any puddings such a disappointment considering it was are sons birthday treat going to the pub for his tea food and service use to be so good here so left feeling very disappointed.

Me and my partner went for tea and ordered on the app. Other tables that went to the bar to order had their meals brought to them earlier than us and we were waiting half an hour... the drinks didn't turn up at all. When are food arrived the lady that brought the meals went to get our drinks. I ordered the hunters chicken and one side of the chicken was completely burnt, chips were cold (not even slightly warm never mind hot) and peas not cooked properly. My partner ordered a chicken burger, the bun was rock hard and barely had any fries. He ordered a desert as he was still so hungry. When the sticky toffee pudding arrived the plates hadn't been cleared and he man forgot to bring a spoon, said he would get one and bring it back. After waiting nearly 10 minutes with nobody coming over to check if we were ok at all throughout the whole meal, he used a folk from the table next to us. Clearly you need some new management or training to take place to sort out the chaos and absolutely disgusting service you are providing.

We visited here on the off chance and we're warmly welcomed by the whole team. They checked my mobility before seating us to make sure I was comfortable. A server then came to our table to take our order so we didn't have to go to the bar to order. The food came out so quickly we were so impressed. We would recommend here to everyone for both the food and the service. Thank you all so much for your kind hospitality

Wheatsheaf is a chain pub, so you have to review it under that lens. For a chain pub the food is genuinely really good, well executed and quick to arrive. The main selling point of this place is the staff, they deserve a raise. Special shout-out to Mark. I've been a few times with my toddler and he's always so friendly, helpful and accommodating. Ultimately at price point (pretty cheap, think £9 a main) I unreservedly don't have anything negative to say about the service, food, drinks and ambiance. Cheers to all the team, Michael (&Arty)

Service and meal were both excellent.

Sizzling chicken, veg and chips, lived up to its promise of arriving to table 'sizzling'. Very enjoyable and friend enjoyed her fish, chips and mushy peas. Staff very helpful and friendly. Quiet today as in middle of week so atmosphere a bit muted but I imagine that at busy times the place comes alive. Definitely recommend a visit.

The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Food was served in good time. The starters werr a good tenpreture but ome of the mains were not very hot.

Stopped for a drink on the way past, rugby was on which was great! Easy to find and have a way in which to put in your registration of your car when you park, so don’t forget to do that!

17 of us rocked up together at 0900 and they handled it with good humour and great food. Good quality and a bargain as well.

We have enjoyed regularly visiting The Wheatsheaf after Chester Zoo for a number of years. Always friendly and great value for money.
